I realized watching you fight with that clip that I spend more time struggling with clips than anything else when I'm working on cars.
I agree with you on that. Its a pain in the butt
Absolutely.
I break electric connector tabs on everything ...push, pull, squeeze, twist, locking tabs ...WTF...can't we all agree on one style....maybe with better plastic that don't get so brittle
Use a floor jack for your fuel tank and bring it out all the way then you can further clean debris inside your tank plus it’s easier to replace the pump standing up
Thanks sir! Your video gave me courage to change mine, 04 ram 5.7 hemi. Wasn't as bad as I thought. Thank you thank you.
Absolutely excellent vid- thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!
I cannot thank you enough for this video! It took me 6.5 hours and many trips to AutoZone, but my truck is repaired. Also, my vent line is a pull clip, not a push and release clip. I didn't have to unconnect the drive shaft. Just did some extreme flexing and made it happen:)
Glad it helped!
Good information and thanks for the help. I did not have to remove the driveshaft to do this and it was easier with 2 jacks one on each end. Still a pain with a near full gas tank. Getting the original pump out of the tank after 15yrs and 163000 miles was a PIA. The new one slipped right in.
Glad it helped!
Freekin’ noble effort. Thanks for a great vid.
Thanks! You are welcome!
Thanks bro, made it easy ,for me to do myself and save me some money and learned a new skill set...
Glad it helped!
Thank you.... very well done!
You are welcome
Jabo, good stuff dude.
Watched the video. Thanks!
My hats off to you man. This is a lot to do. I might have to sit this one out and pay. Definitely needs to be on a lift.🤣🤣🤣
Lol for reals!
Well done!!!
Good video for sure!

I broke the tip of the other where the hose goes to the lid I have to replace the tank. or what is that part another gasoline pump?
Hey my man what’s the white part next to the pump you replaced and how do I take that off
Good job!

Hey y’all, just seeing this video. I have the same exactly model Dodge. I have a strong crank, new battery and spark plugs are good, but it’s not turning over. I’m guessing my fuel pump is the issue but is there any east way to check this before tackling this project?
great video bro bro
Please next time use a brass hammer and punch so it won’t spark and go BOOM.
Ok. Thanks for the input
What were the symptoms that made the decision to replace the fuel pump? My truck just started shutting off on me once in a while. Tonight it just about didn't make it home. It didn't have any power. Tach just jumped up and down when you tried to give it any throttle. It would pop like back firing also. Shutting the engine off and restarting, sometimes while still moving would make it slightly better than it was but then right back to no power. The check enginelight started flashing and I assume that was because it wasn't firing all cylinders.
I had a cranking no start. I hit the fuel tank with a hammer while someone ia cranking it and it started
Good job yo!
Thank you
Thanks man subscribed and liked.
You are welcome. Thank you😊
Mine won't start, any suggestions?
Originally I had a misfire code, on cylinder 7, was still running, then changed the spark plugs on the entire driver side and replaced the #7 coil that was throwing codes.
Fired it back up, started, then died, now won't start, shop said fuel pump so I swapped that last night, just for it to not start lol
Rollover valve nipple was brittle and broke when it dropped. Do I need to buy a whole fuel tank or can the rollover valve be replaced??
Bummer. You can buy it separate
How high did you jack the truck up?
Tow truck guy had some starter fluid, sprayed into air intake... and the truck started. He said that confirmed that it was the fuel-pump. He also said that 02 to 08 Rams are pretty similar... except for the 03... and he has one like mine! Have you heard this before?
Thanks for the video, about to start on mine.
03 should be the same. Have you tried to bang on the fuel tank(center where fuel pump sits) while someone is starting it
@@JaboTheMechanic I haven't! I'm home alone for a while! But will. I did hit it, on my own and could hear something bounce inside. But I also don't hear the normal hum of the pump when turning the key to on.
& I did check the fuse... its good.
OK, I banged on the tank while activating the remote start button (duh, should have thought of that before) and I can hear the float hit the bottom of the tank (bounce).... whether it fell of or not... it's hitting the bottom of the tank.... 1. Is there a chance that my gauge if off and I simply ran out of gas? 2. would the pump stop running "whining" if there is no gas... or would it sense that and shut-down?
@@kmills1456 you could be out of gas. But you will hear the fuel pump primimg the system(humming sound coming from tank) or while cranking. If you dont hear it humming it could be no power to the fuel pump or the pump has gone bad
@@JaboTheMechanic OK, I put a couple of gallons of gas in it... and turned the key.... no humming from the primer... but my truck started (on like the 3rd time) and runs. It sputters alittle, like it wants to die... but is running. I was even able to move it from where the tow truck dropped it off, to my narrow, but covered parking spot.
I'm sorry to keep bothering you but I'm new to this area, don't know alot of people and live alone in an apartment complex. I dont really have the money to have someone else fix it... and am really trying to do anything else but drop that tank. I will do it if I have to... but I dont wana!
I have a 2004 ram 1500 was running good I parked in my driveway when I went to started it was like when is fluaded and keep shutting off and I spray starting fluid stays on then shots of is that my fuel pump to I check all my fuses and relay everything ok
I think that is lack of spark rather than lack of fuel
I would drop the tank all the way down, that way you're not screwing around under the bed where it's easy for dirt and junk to get in the tank. Use a transfer pump to get fuel out of the tank if you need to lighten it and make it easier to maneuver while removing.
Thanks bro🤙 how hard was it to get that pump re-seated? That looks easier than taking off the bed.
It wasn't hard at all. If you are having trouble with it you can use your jack to lift the tank as a guide.
Sick
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 hemi magnum, just replaced EGR valve and new battery, as soon as I filled tank up 10min later it died at a stop sign... could this be fuel related?? Truck is at 122k
It could be. To make sure hook up a fuel pressure gauge to make sure that you have fuel pressure. Should be 55-65 psi. Also bang on the fuel tank while someone is cranking it to see if it starts up. Dont forget to subscribe😊
I just did my put a new pump I wonder if it’s normal for the pump to make a humming noise constantly while truck running ?
Yessir it’s the pump doing its work pushing gas into the lines
So when the fuel pump went out was yo just driving and it quit my truck just died while driving home
I opted on cutting a hole above the gas pump under the bed liner to have easy access .. Pumps on this year rams go out every 5 years...
Mine has been in truck since new in 04. I came here to see how difficult it was to change.
The struggle was real in this video
My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 started and drove for maybe 40 yards and died. Tried to start it again and it seemed like it wasn't getting gas.
Could it be my fuel pump going out? Checked my fuse but it was good.
Check to see if you are getting fuel pressure at the fuel rail in engine bay. Same thing happened with this truck
@@JaboTheMechanic checked it and no Sr. No pressure.
Yeah sounds like it. Bang on the fuel tank and see if it starts
@@JaboTheMechanic did that, started . But only long enough to get it back to my house then died again.
Thats good. Glad you made it home safe.
I've had ford my entire life I've never ran across those plastic clips they suck so much ball sack it's unreal .... It was at this very moment that I realised I hate my Dodge
Does anyone have dementions to cut a hole in truck bed to make a acsess hole for E A fuel pump replacement ?
Easy!
Is this the same for an 05?
Yes. Dont forget to subscribe 😊
If you remember. How long did it take you to drop the tank, swap the pump and fix the tank back up?
45mins with recording
In the first 5 minutes you see a car manufacturers poor engineering....why would dodge use a bolt longer then a deep socket?
Everything is made difficult...I end up breaking more shit
did you disconnect fuel filler neck?
No i did not
@@JaboTheMechanic Thank you, So you just dropped tank in place about 10 inches or so? Did you leave it on top of jack? I have about 3/4 tank of fuel :(
This truck had a full tank of gas. And at least 10inch to 15inch. I used shopping baskets to hold the tank or you can use a jack to lift it back up. I had to siphon at least 8 gallons of gas to help the weight. But i used my knees to put the tank up or lowering it. You are welcome hope this helps
Shade tree mechanic lol
Good video man thanks
Heybwhat is that contraption by the fuel pump?
It is called a front roll over valve
Ty my friend!!
Is that replaceable? I think I have a cracked fitting. I have a fuel leak. I have a camera on order to try to get a visual before I drop the tank.
I believe it is. If i remember correctly
So which fuel pump did you buy?
Customer purchased a Delphi brand
what tools are need and what sizes
13mm, 11mm, 15mm, flat head screw driver, hammer
@@JaboTheMechanic hell yeah, thanks dude!
@@JaboTheMechanic hey do you need to relieve system pressure?
@@user-os2io9yj4f if you dont want fuel to spray in your face. Lol happened once and won't happen again. You can un plug the fuel pump relay or pump itself and start it till it stalls
@@JaboTheMechanic figured as much 🤣 thanks dude
How do you know the tanks capacity?
If its a short bed its a 25 gal and if its a long bed it will be more. Or you can call the dealership and they will tell you
It’s in the vin number.
Mine had a sticker on the fuel tank
Some people unbolt the bed and move it up a little I wonder what’s easier
My 2004 ram is in the shop now for new fuel pump. Costing me $520. U think that's to much?
Thats a. Little high. But around the fair price
@@JaboTheMechanic is there warning signs that the pump is getting bad or does it just go bad
Sometimes it gives you a warning like hard start, rough idle and poor performance. But most of the time no it doesn't
@@JaboTheMechanic thanks 4 the info bro.
No problem anytime!
Last time i put a jack under the rear diff i ate the damn thing and now i have a scar on my face lol
Yeah you got a head light out .
Can't find the clip asst. At AutoZone, could u give a part number pls
What do you mean by the clip assist
@@JaboTheMechanic assortment
@@jakobcurry1551dorman 800-015. Its for ford but it will work
Yeah what is that, the blue tool you used to take off the plastic line. You said the number but I couldn't find it
@@edwardnigma2744 27318 is the loaner tool number. It will look different but it has the size you need at autozone
I just finished changing my fuel pump. Pain in the ass that was. But now I can't get the straps back on.
Are you still having trouble
@@JaboTheMechanic yes! i have it ratchet strapped up LOL. i have the big tank and its half full. i tried jacking it up on each end and i cant get the straps to go over the bolt. its like they shrunk
Lol. Its because the tank is not fully seated in. If you want you can do a zoom call or video chat so I can see what you did wrong
You think itd be easier to just take off bed?
Yes if you have the right tools. But time to take off pump was 30mins with my method
So you mainly needed the jack and stands?
@@Wartah20 yes that works perfectly
Can this cause a hard start and misfire??
@@rayboc921 yes if it doesn't have enough fuel pressure.
My relay for the fuel pump keeps blowing someone told me it's the fuel pump had to watch a video before I start working on it
I think I might cut out a square in the bed, over the fuel pump and then just screw it back down when done.
Hahaha its not bad at all trust me
Did you ever do that and if so did it work out?
@@rm4googol930 dont cut the bed it will decrease the value of the truck. My way only takes 20mins
@@rm4googol930 I did it. If you have the short bed body, you are going to end up cutting really close to one the supports of the bed. Not sure about the long bed. There only reason I the hole in my bed was because my bed is rusted beyond repair.
Why did Dodge make it a pain in the rear with those long mounting bolts for the fuel tank? They could have made them a hair shorter to easily get the deep socket to fit on all the way. I sure miss the days when all vehicle manufacturers used to have the fuel pump in the engine bay, or anywhere else except inside the fuel tank. Having it inside the fuel tank is the most stupid design ever.
I see you have that lamp out light on the dash. Get ready to replace your FCM.
The mil light?
That light is only telling you one of your lights its not working i have the same and happened one time replace the bad bulb and ligjt is off the dash
The false “Lamp Out” indicator caused by a bad FCM or TIPM. It progresses until you lose one or both low beams. Bulbs are still good.
I had the light come on with my brake light out
If a brake lamp is out most likely bad tail light circuit board. Mine kept burning out tail lights.
Should have lifted the box it’s much easier
Dam my mechanics took 2 hours and only took it off
This guy is really dirty, n gets frustrated fast wants to brake everything apart, at least clean or vacuum the surrounding off where the pump is going all that dirt n loose metal will go inside, but hey everybody has there on thinking...
You definitely don't gotta take off drive shaft
I want Dodge diesel 3500 fuel pum all four Dodge diesel coming Daniel I'm just a black style lift pump 3500 Dodge Cali dieselOh Dodge 3500 ram diesel
Why tf would you pull the drive shaft
dude your link is no longer valid
Which one
They don't make it easy to get out.
I know at least its not like the corvette
I broke the tip of the other where the hose goes to the lid I have to replace the tank. or what is that part another gasoline pump??
