Tip. Seat the new seal first for the sump filter. Don't push it in with the filter. Many DIYs have cracked the filter and/or seated the seal on an angle. You can use a socket that is the same circumference as the seal. Thanks for the vid.
Thank you! Great video. I just bought a 2003 Ram 4x4 as a project and for towing a boat. It has 194k miles so I am servicing everything that has liquid. Because I am picky, I am going to redo the transmission, rear diff and engine with fresh fluids for a second time after about a month.
Trying to fix/repair/maintain my own 05 Dodge 1500 work truck and this was very informative and very well done. Clear, strait forward and just the right amount of detail to get it right. Thanks for your efforts putting this vid together. I am now subscribed
This was helpful to watch before hand. Only thing different is the pump filter seal. Drive that into the pump body first, then install the filter. It's easier that way and the manual calls for it to be done that way. Also torque spec on the pan bolts is 105 in-lbs.
Damn nice work. I thought I would know how to do this after working on cars for 50 years, but I would likely have overtightened the gasket. Plus could have missed and left the filter seal up in there. Kudos for an excellent video.
That filter seal is an issue with every transmission sump filter I have done on either GM or Dodge. At least with the Dodge it isn't way up inside the opening like it was with my 1997 GMC Safari van.
Thank you. Great video. Been awhile since I've done one of these and, after watching video, I remember that I've over tightened them in past and would have done it again. You've saved me time and money. You rock!
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!! Anyone with questions or concerns should definitely watch this video! All my questions were answered and not once did he use the word "UUHHMMM", that's confidence!! Once again GREAT VIDEO and THANK YOU you for making my experience easier, and i learned allot from you just now.
Thanks for actually explaining to people the important little things people need. I just watched it for a refresher and now I will be a subscriber. Nice.....
dude ive watched 15 vids on this and you owned all , great vid presented quickly , clearly , logically . and contains some excellent tips nobody else was on ! now i see why youve 60K fans ...
I did my 2008 ram for the 1st time the only damn thing I hated and I do mean the only damn thing was scraping that rtv off never understood the reason for using that crap I went with the gasket cleaned it put some silicone grease along the edges to keep the gasket in place and boom pan in it’s that simple
best video on youtube well done. 6 years old. i just bought an 05 doing research on it see what fluids are etc of course i new atf+4 pretty common on dodge
Excellent video angles of pan gasket and pick-up tube gasket. Very helpful. Best I've seen on youtube. I've never made a video, and my instinct would be to "put down this dumb camera and just get the job done", so thank you for your attention to detail and patience. I have a 17 Ram I'm going to do when the weather breaks, so thank you again.
I changed my tans fuild filters on my tilled driveway.. bought 6 quarts of fuild not even on the dip stick yet. Must of drained some of the torque converter in the process. This vid did help me.. that metal filter retainer thingy was a bit tricky to get the new one in. But overall everything went well. No leaks yet. Lol
Just a tip to people that may have a harder time getting the gasket to hold in place.... a light coat of Vaseline on the actual trans pan along the edges where the bolts go....Then sticking the gasket onto the Vaseline... will allow the gasket to stay in place as you put it up. I know some kits have gaskets that dont allow the bolts to stay in place. So this truly helps. IT is also 100% SAFE, and is even noted in my service manual for my BMW to be used for transmission gasket, and holding it into place before bolting it back up. They also use Vaseline in transmission assembly to lubricate sensitive parts.
Many thanks for taking the time to make and post the vid. Nicely done; clear, informative and exactly what I was looking for. I'll be doing my Ram this weekend, and your directions are a HUGE help and greatly appreciated.
Very informative and clear! Question, I have a 2005 with the hemi engine, with 115,000 miles and probably never had this done, im still on time to do it ir just leave like that? Thanks
Great video, most appreciated. I am thinking based on filters from Mopar, seat for paper filter needs to be placed up and in valve body, & due to plastic threads on spin on filter, 3/4 turn more once filter makes contact with valve body. I am not trying to spout off, just what Mopar filters indicate. Again thank you very much. Definately will subscribe! You know your stuff! 😊
Seti Globe Working on it now, one of the front bolt/screw heads is rounded out, they all seemed over torqued to me, and looks like black RTV on it too ???? Anyway if & when I get out bolt I’ll let ya know , I’m an aircraft sheet metal mechanic so I’ll get it right , WELL PRAYING I DO 👍
Seti Globe Never did get out bolt , 1 out of 15 was seized & rounded off, pan lip & side wont let any vise grips or pliers in there, just ordered a set of Irwin-Hansen bolt extractors (left handed twist sockets) from Amazon and will be here Tuesday, might not be till next weekend until I tackle it again, will let ya know though. ONE LITTLE FREAKING BOLT 😡😡😡
Seti Globe P.S the bolt threads are tapped into transmission body that’s why I didn’t drill head off bolt/easy out & go that route , broken off easy out ain’t no joke
Nice instructional video. AAMCO transmissions swore up and down that my 2008 Ram only had one transmission fluid filter although I went out and bought the exact same kit that you did which has both the pan filter and the internal transmission filter with gasket. I’ll probably end up doing it myself although it can be messy.
Very messy.. I used a large tray from a oversized pet kennel with a drain pan on top.. worked great! How much would this job cost. At the dealer and or grease monkey?
The silicon gasket maker is what this came with from the factory. :-( I don't understand Chrysler's seemingly defaulting to this from factory, especially for the transmission pan. I don't even like it for differential covers, much less something with lots of small valves in it. Thanks for an excellent video. As others have said, drive the sealing ring in first, then mount the sump.
Did you have to remove other part's like cross member etc. before transmission was removed? Only have 99000.mi. on my 2005 1500 4x4 hemi fluid is not discolored!! Would do it myself if i don't have remove other parts. Thanks for the video very easy to follow so i just subscribed .
Of the two dots on the dipstick, where should the fluid level be sir? Mine is way below the bottom dot and I think I may be really low but I don't want to mess it up or overfill it.do you recommend Pennzoil for a 2005 dodge ram or will any ATF do?
This is a wonderful video I am going to try this on my Dodge Durango to 2005 hemi Would this be the same transmission I know mine takes the to filter as well also what did you clean the block of the transmission with without scoring the aluminum or getting little particles in this valve body
Nice video, i got the same truck. I am living in Belgium and i am little bit lost to find right level fluid. Can u tell me how to check the fluid? My english is not effective and i dont understand how to check it. Thanks man. Do i need to run the truck several miles to get normal temperature? I have even checked with a infrared thermometer but dont find how to calibrate it according the temperature fluid. It got the 5.7 liters Ram 1500. Your help will be very appreciated...
Great video, should put filter ring on by itself first to seat well. Plus it’s recommended by factory 👍. Also term “Ping” comes from metal working called “peaning” But has been mispronounced over time to pinging.
thomas brian : Only reason I know the terminology of peening is because Airframe Structures/Sheet Metal is my trade. Now a question for you & your trade. I did my 05 Ram trans flush & filter this past Saturday. It turned out to be a mess. I ended up drilling two severely rounded pan screw heads off then extracted threads from aluminum body with 1/8” easy out ( They are M6x1.00 thread pan head screws if anyone needs to know ? ) Next whoever serviced it before ( I’m 2nd owner ) must have had stock in black Permatex , say no more right ??!!!!! Finally with screws holding gasket on to pan I can’t get pan back on, everything in Duralast kit # TF349 for my 05 Ram 3.7L , 2WD fits except the circulation filter tab is over a 1/2” longer then the one that came off, so I call Auto Zone & they confirm kit # & even measure tab and its same length as my kit. So I marked it, stuck a paper towel in hole to keep out chips/dust and used cut off wheel, file to smooth, works like a champ. But what a day that was, and some people wonder why shop labor is expensive. Why is that kit filter or my pan like that ????
changing doesn't matter, when you check the level it may. it should be on the dipstick which gear to check it in. read along side the dipstick, it will be stamped very small
One other question thanks for your video. Got my fluid and filters changed. I put the magnet in the dead center of the Pan instead of the corner. Is that okay 😬
I feel as though it might be right under that middle part of the filter and I’m afraid it might get sucked up into the filter Am I paranoid over nothing
@thomas brian . In another video they have a new drain pan from 1A Auto you can buy that has a drain plug in it to make it easier to change the next time. Have you ever seen that drain pan or one like it to be able to judge the quality? Thanks for the video
Great video, but, I have a question. I have a 2003 Ram 2500 4x4 Hemi pickup and I'm trying to find a video that covers changing the transmission fluid/filter(s) in it but as close as I can find is yours. Can you tell me if the set up in mine is the same as your video? Thanks
I have an 09 Dodge Ram with 117,000 miles and my fluids never been changed. People tell me not to change it, (including a mechanic) claims I'll start having problems. Is that true ?
I have an 04 2500 automatic from a dead stop the truck doesn’t want to take off we push on the gas and it just revs up and moves forward slowly if I shift the truck in the first on the column and then hit the gas the truck will take off but from a dead stop it will not move very much almost like first gear is going out this just happened the other day and I haven’t dug into it much would changing the oil and oil filter is on the transmission maybe help this problem
what about reverse ? 1 st and reverse work on the same clutch. so if reverse is ok then yes change the fluid and filter, and prob gonna need a shifting solenoid. thanks for watching.
Check for codes. I have an 07 1500 Hemi 4x4 that just started doing this also, and I got a P0750 (Trans Solenoid "A" malfunction) code thrown (WITHOUT a check engine light). The trans goes in to "limp mode" when this happens, and "D" keeps it in 4th gear only. If you shift to "1", you should be able to start from a dead stop easier. With that said, here's my dilemma. When I cleared the code, the issue cleared also!! BUT... It comes back after traveling at highway speeds for awhile. (No, around town driving does not repeat) I have felt a hard down-shift when coming to the first stop after exiting the highway, and the limp mode has returned. Even more bizarre... I can shut off the truck, come back 5 minutes later, start the damn thing and the issue is gone!! I REALLY despise intermittent failures!! I'm here because my local Dodge "Service" guy said a trans fluid change will fix this... for a mere $285.95. I'm skeptical... While I have thought fluid temp/breakdown may be applicable, the fluid looks/feels good on the dipstick. Anyone have any more knowledge?... Or black magic to rid this demon from my trans on Halloween? Hahaha... Thanks.
This video is even better than the 1A Auto video on the same subject.
One of the most informative videos, clear spoken and helpful I've ever seen. Thank you so much
Tip. Seat the new seal first for the sump filter. Don't push it in with the filter. Many DIYs have cracked the filter and/or seated the seal on an angle. You can use a socket that is the same circumference as the seal. Thanks for the vid.
Exactly what I was thinking!
Hey .. just wanted to thank you for taking the time to educate us.
Great video, and now I feel much more confident about my job on this end.👍👍
This has been the best instructional video for transmission fluid change yet!
Thank you! Great video. I just bought a 2003 Ram 4x4 as a project and for towing a boat. It has 194k miles so I am servicing everything that has liquid. Because I am picky, I am going to redo the transmission, rear diff and engine with fresh fluids for a second time after about a month.

Very helpful. Watched it a couple times while i was changing the filters. Made everything very easy. 👍🏻👍🏻
very good video. easy to understand. thank you from New Orleans. pot whole city.
One of the best videos I’ve seen on the Dodge ram transmission thank you thank you very much
Great video!! Very helpful and to the point. I enjoyed the "I think you get this" on many small things that others draw out ad nauseam. Thanks.
thanks for watching!
I did my 2008 ram for the 1st time the only damn thing I hated and I do mean the only damn thing was scraping that rtv off never understood the reason for using that crap I went with the gasket cleaned it put some silicone grease along the edges to keep the gasket in place and boom pan in it’s that simple
Really good. Clearly a pro, whether you make your living as a mechanic or not.
best video on youtube well done. 6 years old. i just bought an 05 doing research on it see what fluids are etc of course i new atf+4 pretty common on dodge
however it took closer to 6 quarts on my 05
thanks Thomas for this exellent video, you are a professional.
you really know how to teach through a camera, good job... its almost as if i did it myself.
Best breakdown I’ve seen !
Excellent my Friend . I wasn’t buying the whole silicone gasket type deal . Great way of showing how to get the gasket on there easier !!
Lol
So happy I found your video. I am ready to do my 99 dodge now. Thank you!!!
Clear, helpful, informative, nice! Great job, thank you sir!
Very good tutorial. Succinct. Not wasting your words and my time.
Excellent tutorial man, great job. Thanks👍👍👍
Great video sir very simple and informative.
awesome knowledge on the gasket....bout to start my 2007 Grand Ch...Gonna add a pan with a drain..
Great video👏🏽👏🏽🔥❤️
Well informed and everything
Great tutorial, thanks for the info. The best version of this procedure I have seen anywhere by far.
Thomas Brian Thanks, you are a professional, great video
thanks, and thanks for watching.
precise, clear and moderately long video with good info.. keep it up ..cheers
thanks Amjad , and thanks for watching.
Great video!! Very informative and relatable

messy yes, saving money, kinda worth the mess. ha. perfect, thanks for watching. aamco employees scare the heck out of me !!!! ha

Glad I watched your video...I have to do this today with my truck. 😕 wish me luck!
I just did mine. Now cant come out of park. Did you have and issues? I know his video is accurate. I've done other cars had no issues.
Thanks a lot man👍🏼
Excellent video! Thank you. Very thorough
thanks for watching!
Brooo great video I'm going to do my own oil change thanks
Getting ready to do mine . Thanks for the great video.
perfect,,, thanks for watching.
Thx for info. Should of warned us about plastic ring. That was insane how hard it was to remove.
ring ? sorry you had a issue, i try to cover all i can. thanks for watching.
Thank u so much was so helpful

Wow excellent video.

This video is absolutely awesome....
thanks Collin, and thanks for watching.
Great Video, just a curious question, was there ever a magnet in the pan? I did not see one after you dropped the pan.
Mine has 180,000....I bought the truck with 24,000....I'm 150,000 overdue but still going strong!
I’ve seen people push in the seal with a socket tapping with a hammer did you do that or just push it in with your hands ?
Will this help a transmission slip from 2nd gear I have to turn off the engine and restart it when it slips to 2nd than im good after starting back up
Great video
This is a wonderful video I am going to try this on my Dodge Durango to 2005 hemi Would this be the same transmission I know mine takes the to filter as well also what did you clean the block of the transmission with without scoring the aluminum or getting little particles in this valve body

Good work
Good job sir
perfect video
Awesome thanks so much for sharing 👍
Good video. I think you understand that.
how many miles should i do my fluid and filters/
also the links for the parts does not include the gasket, thanks.
How much fluid require the RAM 1500 2012 SPORT? 5.7 hemi

I just put one on from Amazon. Seemed solid. I will see how it holds up to the road salt this winter.
Great video, thnx!
I think I understand that! I get it! Thank you.
thanks for watching!
Nice ! I have an 06 4wd. Is this the same genn
Great job.
Nice video !
ty , and thanks for watching.
does it not need to be flushed?
suprimo job thanks.
thanks for watching
What will cause my transmission to shift up and down while driving and when I slow down it jerks to gear down ! It’s an 05 Dodge Ram 1500
I had the same problems on mine
Clean your idle air control valve or replace it . I had the same issues and cleaned it and worked great thought it was a bad tranny but wasn’t
Great video, but, I have a question. I have a 2003 Ram 2500 4x4 Hemi pickup and I'm trying to find a video that covers changing the transmission fluid/filter(s) in it but as close as I can find is yours. Can you tell me if the set up in mine is the same as your video? Thanks
should be exactly the same. thanks for watching.
thanks for this video
thanks for watching Tyler !
How you drain all the fluid is in the radiator??? I mean drain all the system...
Do you add trans fluid when trucks off then start it or while its on pour it in?
loren parks when its off you should add at least 4 quarts and top it off with the truck on
I have an 09 Dodge Ram with 117,000 miles and my fluids never been changed. People tell me not to change it, (including a mechanic) claims I'll start having problems. Is that true ?
Yes with this milaege no recomendable
No, not true.
Fluid flush would be bad, but changing the fluid as in this video is never bad.
thomas i just changed the shift solenoid on my 2008 dodge ram 1500 but it does not go into drive it clicks in but once you give it gas it wont move
any advice?
If filters are clogged will you get a whirring noise going down the road when pressing accelerator?
Yup
I did this exactly and now my 06 won't even go into any gear. Help. Please.
Good vídeo..
thanks for watching.
What about all the fluid in the lines, torque converter and cooler?
In my research, most people say don't do a total fluid flush, just the fluid that comes out when you replace the filter.
Awesome
I have an 04 2500 automatic from a dead stop the truck doesn’t want to take off we push on the gas and it just revs up and moves forward slowly if I shift the truck in the first on the column and then hit the gas the truck will take off but from a dead stop it will not move very much almost like first gear is going out this just happened the other day and I haven’t dug into it much would changing the oil and oil filter is on the transmission maybe help this problem
