The owner recently told me that she drove over an embankment a couple of months ago. She said the truck had to be pulled out by a tow truck because the frame was sitting on the ground. I believe the gas tank may have taken a hit during that incident and that is what broke the fuel pump hanger. She must have been driving a couple of months with the fuel pump module just swashing around freely in the tank. I'm thinking that when she had to stop abruptly, the fuel in the tank swashed around hard enough that the fuel pump got disconnected.

You can use the power probe to load test a ground without using a test light… the instructions that come with the power probe tell you. So you touch the tip to ground, then you hit the power button. If there is a good ground, it trips the circuit breaker. It says that right in the instructions manual. Power goes out of power probe and if it finds good ground, trips that circuit breaker, boom, done

Great diag process vs. buy expensive parts hoping for a fix. Those Delphi parts are top quality. Delphi makes GM oem parts and has for decades. No worries with the Delphi brand !
In this case, the entire fuel pump module makes sense but in many fuel pump jobs, I see mechanics opting to replace the entire module assy rather than just the fuel pump itself. I bring this up because the fuel pump itself, if it is offered separately as a replacement part, usually costs $40 or so vs. the $200 and up prices for complete modules. There's only a tad more labor involved to transfer the existing pump out and install the new one.
Keep your fuel line tool with your fuel pressure gauge at all times. Also, its a good idea to recharge battery jumpers each day as a routine to avoid a useless tool when needed.
Thanks for sharing your good skills.

Actually lucky, my 2015 Ram fuel pump relay went out (super common issue) and the fix is usually to replace the TIPM. I built a relay bypass and saved a grip on the repair. Dodge does sell a bypass but it's still expensive but not anywhere near the $1000 new TIPM. Love your in depth video's THX

Fantastic video. I like your clear explanations. You said it at the beginning, getting down to the basics of spark and fuel. The supplies to any gasoline engine, even lawn mowers. Great Video Eric. At first thought I thought the problem lied in the TIPM relay. A common failure point. But I see that this truck had the Relay Bypass fix done. I think the Relay on the side of the fuse box is the new bypass fuel pump relay. Oh, and I would like to have seen if the old fuel pump motor was working. Maybe it was the connector that became unplugged. However the plastic on the module assembly was broken and even if the pump motor was working, maybe the module assembly was beyond repair.

Great video. Also good tip. I almost got burned by few cars. Crank no start conditions are kinda tricky. I guess I’m still learning. Hooking up fuel gauge is a nightmare. I need better tools and also I’m deaf. I Can’t hear fuel prime or click. I can feel only vibration or using test light. Hearing compression sound wise is very challenging 😭. Re: Cost of fuel pump...
Within the last couple of years, I replaced the fuel pump in my Chevy Cavalier before a long 4,000 mile cross country trip. The vehicle had around 120k miles and I didn't feel like getting taken on the road for a grand on a job I could do myself at home.
But, a check of part suppliers showed the pump is only sold as a whole-fuel-assembly part (pump, sending unit, installation cage, etc.). At a pricey $400 for an OEM ACDelco unit, I passed. After some research on-line, I found an eBay vendor selling just the physical OEM pump for those willing to take the time to rebuild the sending unit -- at a cost of $40. Let me tell you, those sending units take patience and a delicate hand to disassemble.
But, the effort was worth it! The new fuel pump allowed the car to bang out the long distance trip without any hiccups.
So, the moral of the story? If you're a DIY'er, look at eBay for vendors supplying work-arounds to expensive full-assemblies.

My wife's car was rear-ended once with minor damage. The body work was completed and we drove it for years after that. Well the fuel pump quit on me one day and I changed it myself. When changing it I noticed that there were anti-slosh baffles inside the tank that were shattered and laying in pieces inside the tank.....I assume from the impact years earlier. The factory must have put anti-slosh baffles for a reason but it didn't seem to affect the smooth running of that car anyway. And we lived on a VERY steep hill.

It's also possible a previous backyard mechanic was lazy and only dropped the tank far enough to squeeze in that first fuel pump, installing it in a compromised condition. That's the most likely explanation for the missing plastic and the rods falling apart that makes sense to me. Great video, like your fuse buddy, gettn one. :) Also, great job lettn us know you pulled the fuse before load testing the ground, I was wondering.

So, I have had this truck for 16yrs. It is a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 liter flex fuel 2WD. It has literally been the best vehicle that I have ever owned, and I would really like to keep her for a couple more years, and then give it to my nephew. Anyways, a couple of weeks ago the RPMs started running pretty high, when I start it up in the morning. Also, I noticed when I come to a complete stop that it feels like the transmission stutters. That said, I drove her pretty hard this past weekend and then ran her through the car wash. So when I was drying her off, I've always been able to take the key out of the ignition and it stays running, but when I go to drive it again, I put it back in, before I take off. So this time when I started driving about 3/4 of the way home it started to really have a tough time shifting out of second gear. I got her home and parked and that's when I noticed that the key was not in the ignition, so I put it back in and shut her down. When I tried starting her in the morning it wouldn't start, all it does is constantly turn over. Funny thing about this is, I got it towed to my mechanic and he was able to get it started by spraying some starting fluid in the throttle body and it started right up and I was able to drive it home. It didn't run great but it ran surprisingly good, but as soon as you turn it off, it won't start again unless I spray the starting fluid in the throttle body again. I know this was long winded, but does anyone have an experience with this problem, or have any idea what this problem could be caused by? The mechanic has a feeling that the TICM has a short and probably needs to be replaced. What say you guys?

I thought about it, but I didn't get around to it. Filming while dropping a gas tank solo in a parking lot is not easy. Thanks for watching!

Did you notice the think tool has has datastream where you could pull data like the pump pressure and know if there's any pressure at all. I have the portable ThinkDiag tool and it has that option

I am so glad I found your page! I have been having some problems on a 2010 ram 1500 with a 4.7L that I'm working on. I have 2 codes p0688 and p0562. The fuel pump is good. But the truck just cranks and won't start. I'm thinking the computer isn't sending signals to send spark and fuel. What do you think??

Should every relay and fuse circuit be showing 12V? Or are there some that might only ask for 4V or 6V?
