This is how it starts. You decide the mechanic is too expensive so you get more and more confident. Next thing you know youre rebuilding transmissions in your garage.
That’s EXACTLY what happened to me!! My mechanic made a few lazy mistakes and I knew I could do it better...a lot slower...but better. All I watch are WJ repair videos and acquiring tools. I’m 54 and it’s never too late to learn.
Hey, just finished changing mine out from Auto Computer Exchange and per your video took exactly one hour and I'm no mechanic. Your video is spot on!!! Thank you!!!! I had bought one from these guys after the dealer said 1200.00 and the local private mechanic said 1500. A buddy of mine put the first one in and that first one had the engine light on after 1000 miles. I called these guys and they kept me on the phone while explaining how to do a code reading(?) P0505, and they sent a replacement which I just finished installing. Again, Great Video, Very thankful, DB, Boise Idaho
+D Bell That's fantastic!!!
This has to be one of the best, most informative video's I have ever watched. I really appreciate the time and effort you took to produce this quality video for those of us with problematic computers. I hope this fixes my problem as well.
Hey thanks, man. That feedback is why I do this stuff. Lots more to come if I can get to editing.
About to do this ECM swap, What's the update on your Jeep WJ ECM swap til this day?
@@rapsnippets2978 I had it professionally installed and it was not the problem I was experiencing with my jeep.
@@iswatman what is your Jeep doing?
@@rapsnippets2978 We sold it a few years ago but the locks and windows would not function correctly. I was trying everything to fix the problem. Never did figure it out.
extremely common problem on GCs could be one of many different codes, but the PCMs are notorious for going bad. Thank you for making an easy-to-follow video on swapping them out!
+eric seif Glad to be able to help so many!
Good job, glad it took care of your problem! Point One: use dielectric grease on the connections when reconnecting them. It will help prevent corrosion and water intrusion. Point Two: A better fix (but more involved!) for the broken locking mechanisms; a friend and I added a clamping bar with a strip of neoprene on it to retain the plugs. It added two nuts to remove, but he never had another plug disconnect problem, and he did some SERIOUS rock crawling in his WJ.
William, Would you please explain further on the clamping bar you are referring to?
Nice video, been awhile since I checked in to the channel. Just dropped about $650 into my 01 Ranger plus countless hours of work to solve a misfire issue and rough idle condition. Runs great now though
Hey my Man. I bought a 2000 Jeep grand Cherokee Limited 2 years ago, used. The check engine light was on since the day I bought it. I had this same issue, vehicle starting up then cutting off. I replaced the IAC twice, and that didn't fix the issue. I actually unhooked the IAC and drove it like that. I just, tonight put in my new PCM and BOOM. Problem solved. Start to finish it took 2 hours. This was a last ditch effort to fix the problem. Here in Maryland we had emissions testing and this thing failed every time. It was to the point that I couldn't get my tags renewed until the problem was solved. Now............Problem solved.
Thanks for a great video and all the great tips
Outstanding!

Hey Neal, mine is doing the same thing. Starts up fine but then turns off while driving
Thanks for the video. You seem to be a really nice and down to earth guy. I have been watching a lot of these videos on the stalling and the PCM. Your's was the firs to show the steps of just getting the thing out. I have a 1999 and I have to tackle this job very soon. I have been trying to NOT buy a new car and have gotten burnt a couple times recently. I am about to go crazy. People buy a Jeep, have problems with it and since the problem is Random they just try to pass it off to the next sucker that comes along. I am about half tempted to make sure the guy that did this to me loses more than he gained selling it to me, but that is just talk. I don't do anything to creeps out there and always feels they were get theirs someday from living the way they do. Thanks again
Thanks for the kudos and comment. It was while I was researching this that I discovered there weren't any step-by-step videos on this (at the time), only discussion. I saw the need for this instructional. I'm glad it's helped so many.
Great video! Loved the musical interlude! Very good filming and explanation without any wasted time. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback!
“I’m not a mechanic, I just know how to follow instructions”. Amen! That and having the proper tools is all it takes!
Oh, just remembered. I was able to get away with removing the 2 bottom bolts and the firewall nut on that vertical plate. And was able to just move it (somewhat) sideways to the engine. Didn't have to take mine out, and without unplugging that wire bundle. (8mm bolt). And taking photos was a great suggestion. I'm old and feeble, Thanks again DB Boise Idaho
+D Bell Glad I could be of service!
Mechanic just told me my pcm on my 2000 jeep is bad :( your video is amazing! Im gonna say me some money
Very descriptive, thank you. Heading out to jeep here soon.
Great video have a 2002 jeep grand Cherokee and this was awesome. I replaced the ECM and viola "its alive" Also had to do the zip tie trick as mine came cracked as well. $218 online plug and play.
What company did you buy yours from?
What brand u brought from? Already programmed?
Dude, awesome job. And special kudos for the zip tie workaround.
+Silky Tp Thanks! She's still running strong, too!
My 2001 would not keep running at idle. Had to rev it just to keep it running. Also some times it would not start. Found the battery conection was causing the problem. Replaced positive battery connector. Problem solved. Wasn't getting amperage required.
Thanks for this video, replaced mine easily thanks to this!
+SSHitMan Excellent! Glad to be of help.
I'm a not mechanic.
Just a Jeep owner 😁.
Cut it off and welded it .
Great job buddy.
Your 6 YEAR OLD VIDEO , sure help me ! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
I'm About to dive in on this project. Excellent video to provide a heads up on the removal! I was trying to decide between the ACE or ACR vendors for the computer. Any thoughts on the quality of yours from ACR?
Nicely done !
This is a pretty good video, and was of great assistance in removing my PCM from my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. If anything could be improved on this video it would be some details on how to unplug the additional cables sitting on top of the PCM carrier. I got mine out of the way by pushing out the accordion plugs from the backside which is not the best way to do this.
Awesome video and instructions. now I know what I need to do.
+Israel Salvatierra Cool!
Thanks from a 4.0 GC WJeeper above the sea ;-)
Great vid! Just ordered from same ebayer rebuilt unit after check engine light and error P0601
Awesome!
2004 jeep gc pcm. watched this video, walked out side and pulled it out. wham bam. I am noooo mechanic, and a girl. this video was right on the money. plus I just used a small husky socket driver set. easy peasy
+Ms Hill Noyce!
You're a girl and you changed your own PCM..... are you single? wait the fact that you know what a PCM is incredible by itself..
That hidden bolt was frustrating, glad you suffered first ;) p0505 is gone for now thanks man!!!
Chris Prickett Cool! Glad to hear it helped. Mine is still going strong.
+The TSF Channel coincidently I purchased from the same ebay company, its good to know yours is running strong. Ive been shotgunning parts trying to fix that stupid code. Fyi your jeep will stay running if you disconnect the purge solenoid hose from the throttle body. In case you have this problem in the future. Thanks again!
Chris Prickett Thanks for the tip!
excellent job man
Thanks, Patrick!
Great Video. Just purchased a 2001 JGC v8. After replacing the battery terminals the car is very consistent with the issues it has now. Seems like the PCM as there are several intermittent electrical components going on and off. A/c, ABS, speed sensor, ignition system. I'm not sure if I should attempt to just replace the PCM as I've cleaned all the grounds and can't find any shorts in any of the wires. Some people have said that it could even be the ignition switch and i'm not sure, although it seems like it works after jiggling the key and reinserting it a couple times.
Sam Jackson When I took mine to Chrysler, they checked the voltage coming through the wiring harness to ensure connectivity between the components.
Sami Itum
Great help.
Maybe someone already mentioned this, but, at 10:22, those bolts are TORX bit bolts ~ FYI
We all have the steering wheel cover. Since OEM has worn out
nice job
Was it a dealer service/tech that fubared the connectors on the PCM that was in there before the swap?
I take it that it is easy to be too ham handed or forceful on trying to remove those connectors,do they have the orange tabs that need to be slid to one side like the taillight connectors in order to release? And then take a surprising amount of inward pressure before the orange tab will go back into the locked position without pushing so hard as to break it?
(Looked at mine, the main connectors (3 of them) are different than the ones with the orange tabs. There are a couple of connectors nearby that have the orange tab. I guess it is important to figure out how the connector is supposed to release before trying to strongarm it. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people they hire as mechanics at the dealership shops don't know how to work them without breaking the locking pieces.
looks like you almost needed a hammer. or even a tanker bar. lol good stuff boss.
Nah, the hard part was filming it.
What is the follow up? Has this PCM/ECU had any issues 5yrs later? I would really like to know. Thanks.Great video.
Still going great! Had to swap engines a couple years ago after the air box was compromised. Same PCM, though. Added a HO manifold to the rebuild I bought. All good.
@ Greg Ponder. Can't reply to your comment. May be how you have your acct set up. PM'd.
Hey man, I hope you’re as still making videos. I come back to your channel from time to time.
I was wondering if this remanufactured ECM/PCM is still working for you?
I am! And the PCM is still going strong. Weather in my area has kept production at at standstill. If it's not rain, it's excessive wind - on top of the stay at home BS. Thanks for asking!
No problem
Thank You Sir! Do you need so send the PCM rebuilder the PIN for the alarm?
Once you contact them, they will ask for your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) so they can properly burn the correct software on the new PCM.
I'll never let any Mopar dealership touch my jeep or any vehicle of mine unless under warranty!!!!!
Great video - Mine just dies at random times with no check engine light and thus no codes. Changed fuel pump filter crank shaft sensor and built a bracket to make the pcm connections tight. Worked fine for 3 weeks then started dying again. My question is, did you have a check engine light come on when the problem arose?
+Rob Noerper The engine check light was on from the get-go, before I knew how to check the codes. I swapped the IAC valve based on some forums I'd read, but for no effect. The engine would die at low RPMs and I had to step on the brake and gas at the same time at stop lights. I finally took her to Chrysler who told me the issue was dwindling/surging electric connectivity between the IAC valve and the PCM, that both were burned out. They wanted $1200 to replace and program the PCM.
I found an alternate way.
Rob Noerper did you manage to rectify your Jeep? Sounds like yours was the same as what mine is doing?!
awesome!!!😊
liz blizz Thanks, LB!
hi, how are you?
i have a question the pcm you need to program or just put it and it's ready?
You give your VIN to the company and they ensure your PCM is programmed before they send it to you.
Hey! thanks for your video! I guess I could have a problem on the PCM...
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999 V8 4x4 Limited with 120k Miles.
Engine runs perfect, sounds perfect too.
But randomly have this fail, its lose all power, its like gos to 240hp to like 40. Still running but not power. It comes randomly. Can be 2 entire tanks without this failing, can be just a second, be on traffic or highway. Normally its for a second or 2, but some time it stick until I put the key off and on again. I mean the engine is with no power at all, failing when I accelerate, like if 4 cylinders of the 8 are working or something like that. If I put the key in off and on again will start like no problems at all and run without any problems for hours.
No engine light on. No even when its failing. I did the 3 times off on with no error code. I put the ODB reader, no codes stored at all. I logged data on the ODB and when i fails I checked the log, and all seems to be normal, just less RPM on ralenty since the failing.
Today I was driving, and the engine go off. And didn't start again. I noticed the KEY light was on. But static (if you put a key without chip will blink, the jeep will start but will go off after a second or two). The engine rotate but no start, like no spark. I connected the ODB, to see if some error or something, and I sawy that the key light was off, so I rotated the key and started like no problem at all. I drove home with no failing at all.
Any thought? For now I will do a second key copy just in case, and I will find the Key module (no idea where is it) and see if the connectors are OK. may be its just a loose cable.
Any advice is super welcome.
did you fix this?
@@jeffreystine7068 Wow my coment was old. Yes I fixed (twice actually) was a false contact inside the PCM, I replaced the PCB with one that I bought online, sued reprogrammed, with 1 year warranty. and it died in 1 year 2 days hahaha. So I bough a new PCM (new new) and because I'm a freak, i cut the 3 connectors to the pcb and bough them from the junkyard and soldered like 65 cables. I found out when I was doing this that one cable was cut exactly at the end of the terminal making that false contact but the PCMs
I just swapped my PCM using the same company. Just out of curiosity did you have to do anything with you SKIM module? (ie the vehicle mobilizer under the steering column) Everything ran smoothly for the first trip around the block after replacing mine but later that evening it died at a stop light and wouldn't even turn over. The yellow 'key not detected' light was illuminated, the gas gauge was pegged at zero, and the voltage was at ~9V.
Samuel Nash Sorry to hear that, Sam. Nope, everything ran smoothly after my swap. It's still running smoothly.
Samuel, what did you end up doing to fix your issue? i am experiencing similar issues with the fuel gauge and the voltage gauge. SKIM light and check engine lights are also on...
At about 3:00 , looks like the positive terminal cable clamp at the battery is loose.
So, behind the scenes, the battery cables were incredibly stiff which is why I only removed the negative in the shot. The positive cable would pop back, making contact with the terminal, so I left it in place. In fact, before this shot, I'd pulled the battery completely out of the engine because I didn't want to waste time learning on video. Instead, I did a rehearsal prior to rolling the camera, discovered I didn't need to completely pull the battery, so I reassembled everything, and only tightened the neg for illustrative purposes. We call it #filmmaking 😅 A loose positive cable was not the root of the problem, but your attention to detail is on point. Should be a snap for you...
I like to keep the safety insulated battery post covers from when the battery was new and if I have to do something where I have to disconnect the battery at the negative clamp I like to put the insulated cover back on the post in case the cable tries to flop back and touch the live battery post while I don't want it to !
when you are driving it you want those battery connections to be good and solid. @@TheTSFChannel
Do you not have to change out all the other ECU's or get dealership to sync it with the other control modules?
Nope. You send you VIN with your order and they flash it before they mail it
whats your stereo deck out of? looks good! also great video!
+Skyler Martini Thanks Skyler. Check the Jeep playlist. There's a video on the stereo.
i hope it works for my jeep too
wj v8 4.7
Random Question for a 2002 4.0 Jeep GC: Can one simply go down to the junkyard, pull a PCM out of one of the same generation and swap it into the 2002? Or does the PCM have to be programmed prior to it going into the car? Thanks!
When I bought the PCM, they ask you for your VIN. Not sure why that's significant, but it may have to do with loading your vehicle "profile" into the computer. So yeah, for programming.
Got the same problem where did you get your pcm from great video
Thank you! Ebay.
When you purchased the PCM did you have to buy one that had the same Vin &milage as your truck or you just purchased one from a junk yard
Ammiesha Mitchell FFWD to 20:20 and you'll see the ebay page I bought the PCM from. They ask for your vin. I think I describe the process there.
did your stock key run that plug and play pcm? or did u need to reprogram the key? i wonder because these pcm websites say they have an option for pcm with chip keys. just wondered. thanks in advance! cool vid
Stock key. Mine was a '99 though, so the key fob only locks and unlocks and sets the alarm.
+TSF Channel thank u for the reply! is yours still running on that pcm?
Yep. Had it out in the desert today.
+TSF Channel awesome! and again thanks for the reply. keep jeepin!
What radio do you have in this jeep?
Stock at the time this was made, but I swapped it out. Here's the video on that: ua-cam.com/video/nmvnf9GezmA/v-deo.html Then I swapped out the tweeters in the dash: ua-cam.com/video/TnXQxirnCl4/v-deo.html
Did you have to change the immobilizer as well?
Never heard of an immobilizer.
Hi i'm in Australia and i have a 2000 jeep grand 4.7 wj but my jeep is different to yours behind the radiator bottle is nothing? something else maybe a pcm but with no plate is on the other side of the car my left passenger and your drivers side left could this be it?
I'd need to see a photo. Message me here: facebook.com/TheTSFChannel/
Is my understanding correct - your old PCM stopped supply correct 5V to several sensors and IAC valve as well? And you changed the PCM to solving this issue?
Not sure of exact reason or the voltage, but the Dodge/Chrysler technician said there was a connectivity issue between the PCM and IAC valve. I think it was due to the broken cable locks at the PCM. The zip strips ensure the cables will not pull out, but the problem could have easily been the wiring harness. Thank God it wasn't.
I have the similar issue with oxygen sensors and EVAP solenoid. My mechanican said, that PCM extremely reliable device, and I should check a lot of stuff before to start thinking, that PCM is broken. Maybe he is right - all troubles started after several weeks from changing heater core.
And your idea with zip strips is really cool. Thanks
I just replaced 2x oxygen sensors. It's a thing. Evap solenoid is easy and cheap. Swap em out. See what happens.
im having an
eletrical issue i believe ive narrowed down to PCM aswell.. the car stalls .. all gauges drop.. skim .. check gauges.. and the gas light come on dashboard.. ive finally figured out when i wiggle the connectors to my pcm it starts back up because i here the relays click. I guess my question is. Is that From the pcm itself.. the connectors.. or a short in any of the grounds? i hope you can help me I dont want to order one or send out my pcm if i dont need to. I am almost positive this started happening right after my mechanic changed my engine mounts. I belive he had to remove the pcm or atleast move some wires around it to do the job. Any help guys would be great im so close to my WJ being 100% road reliable. Thanks in advance for any help!
That's too deep for me. Maybe those cable locks aren't good anymore and you need to zip-tie them in place like I had to. No idea. Like I state in the video, I'm not a mechanic, but I did pay for the opinion of one, which set me on my journey...
About to swap my wj ECM, What's the update on your ECM swap?
Still good to go, running strong.
What’s the link to the site you got it, I bought one from Oreally’s and it’s not programmed I would like to return and order a programmed one. Also a normal scan tool will not program the unit I wasted a lot of time trying! I know you said it in the video but just short on time to re watch. Thanks for any info you can provide
Do an ebay search. At 11:33, there's discussion about ACR vs ACE. I got mine from ACR on ebay.
Hello im about to replace the cpm on my 1999 grand cherokee. is there any programing youbhad to do or just plug and play? Regards. Great video
Depending on where you buy (I got mine on ebay), they will ask for your VIN to program the PCM for your Jeep.
Thanks a lot. I will buy it on ebay too. Have a wonderfull day
Glad to have helped!
Have you heard if the PCM causes the Sentry system to intermittently go off? Mine engages every couple weeks or after driving it several days in a row. The only way I can start/drive it again is if I disconnect the battery for 12-24hrs and seems to reset something. It's a major pain!
Has not happened to me.
Did you ever have the sentry light come on and stay on? I'm wondering if mine is still an issue with the PCM. On occasion, all the electronics stop working, gauges, power windows, etc. It's happened a few times with my windows down, which sucked. My A/C also blows warm air. Again, the only way it will start working again is with disconnecting the battery for a long time.
That's all beyond me, bruh. I haven't had any of those problems. I'd search the WJ forums for error codes and solutions. Best of luck and let me know how you solved it!
@@jerdmpsy You ever get this issue resolved. I am having the same issues.
Was you car running rough at idle or stalling what were the symptoms?
+Jason Swader It would shut off at low idle speeds. Stop lights, traffic, or creeping down a trail. Biggest tell-tale was the error code, P0505.
Hey man so I have a 2000 grand Cherokee do I have to program it ? Or anything in that sort I’m planing to get one from my local junkyard
I would contact whoever you're going to get that new PCM from - if needed.
So will a pcm from any year fit as long as it's a 4.7?
No idea. They ask for your VIN when you order. Probably to correctly match it up.
would a bad pcm also cause my 10a pcm fuse to keep blowing instantly?
I have no idea. I would look at the PCM cables. Are they positively locked in position or are all the cable locks broken like mine were? Cable connectivity could easily cause power surges and blown fuses. Or it could be something else. It was bad cable connectivity which caused certain lines on my PCM to surge, which burnt out my IAC valve.
so you didn't have to program it and put in the new vin and pin?
oh i see you had pre programmed and it was plug and play very cool!
Debbie's World Yeah, they get your VIN from you after you order.
Do you think it could be the PCM if I have a no start, no crank, loss of power when attempting to start?
I would check the battery first
@@TheTSFChannel battery is brand new about 2 wks old, I’ve been looking doing some research, I’ve comedown to crank and camshaft position sensors, idle air control valve and the starter it self…all my codes are cleared because I’ve cycled the battery connector on and off multiple times because for the past 2 wks it would eventually start now it just kills the power…volts read at about 12 I tested the alternator it was normal….maybe the ignition switch…fuses are good
friend I have a problem in my jeep Grand cherokee 2001 floods with water when I turn on the air conditioning, you could help me to solve this problem
I can't. I can only recommend getting the Haynes Repair manual. I'm not a mechanic. I only know how to follow instructions. It sounds like you have a coolant leak somewhere. Check out Eric the Car Guy's UA-cam videos. His videos might help you find the problem even though it may be on another vehicle.
check the condenser drain
Your A/C drain is plugged up,clean it out simple job
Do you guys have any idea what the ground staps do I have a 2005 Cherokee and noticed it has a ground strap
itstillruns.com/car-ground-strap-work-12185174.html
Thanks a lot for this!
Any ideas on if this would fix an anti theft issue? Went to crank our 2004 grand cherokee and would not crank and the anti theft light is on. Locksmith tried to reprogram the key with no luck. Tried jeep forum "hacks" and still no luck.
That would probably be a dealer issue. I bought my WJ used. It didn't come with a remote. I bought one, but the cost of dealer programming has kept me from making it work.
Research or look in to "SKIM Delete" ?
Can you tell me were the ground on the back of it come from
Any ground cable was contained in the three main cable harnesses that plug into the front. I think. This is a '99 WJ. It may be different on yours.
I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4x4 4.7......... it turns for a couple of minutes and shuts off than have to wait for a couple of minutes for it to turn on again.... I change the spark plugs the coils the fuel pump the fuel filter the IAC and still does it you think it could be the PCM
+rodrigo gracia could be. I changed the IAC before taking it to Chrysler. I used to have to stand on the gas and brake at stop lights to keep her from stalling. Sounds like the same thing you got.
I'm really curious if the issue is just a loose cable plug on the PCM, how to secure them without removing the PCM frame etc. I have read a few posts where some have used some clamp bracket with padding, but have no idea what they are actually using.
It's pretty clear how and why I had to zip strip the cables in place. Still going strong, too.
I'm sorry and thank you for responding so quickly. Let me reword this as I can see I did not do so. What I meant was, what if my issue is just say... a loose cable from the crappy PCM plug locks and broken receiver plastic framing. What are those clamp brackets some are mentioning and how do they clamp?
At 12-min, I start discussing what I think you're addressing and how I fixed it.
A few people mentioned some sort of bracket, not talking zip ties.
William Mims made one comment about a clamping bar.
good video and instruction ... just forgot to mention the PLATE that runs vertical to the PCM must also be taken off (in order for the PCM plate to make it out of the firewall housing) ... other than that, great video!
also, you mentioned your bad PCM was from ACR (all computer resources, inc., out of miami florida) ... i ordered a replacement PCM for my original from them ($200) ... they sent one out but it was BAD/FAULTY ... do NOT do business with ACR ... they are a joke!
Biff Buttrammer I showed what I encountered and the actions I took. Your mileage may vary. My PCM is still kicking, BTW, and if it didn't, its got a lifetime warranty.
+Biff Buttrammer The damaged PCM he took out was from Auto Computer Exchange. Thats why I decided to go with All Computer Resources. I followed the video to the T and everything is working as it should. Also has a Lifetime Warranty.
Same process for a 2003 Grand Cherokee 4.0L right?
Unknown. Engine compartment layout is different on the V-6. I would check the forums and the Haynes manual.
Do u have to alway Disconnect battery when you work on electrical parts?
Yes. Always. Take no chances with shorting out a component or worse, electrocution.
@@TheTSFChannel thanks
Mine is sicker than a dog. It's an 04 Overland with 177k. feels like it's missing hard! Once you accelerate a little in park it jumps up, I replaced the IAC that helped a little. I replaced injectors, coil packs, plugs, all o2 sensors, inline fuel filter and problem remains.... HELP! My next option is take it to the dealer let them do a FULL diagnostic and see what's going on with it. I purchased the vehicle while in this bad condition. kinda of regretting it now a little. Any help is much appreciated. I'm thinking it's the PCM but not 100% sure on it. When I yanked the plugs they were all black except cyl #1, it looks like this is the only cylinder burning correctly, all other were black and number 8 was getting very little fire.
Try getting a diagnostic "P" code. You can Google the technique. I'm no auto mechanic. But I do have the Haynes manual, a set of basic tools, and UA-cam. =)
I had a pP0308 which means misfire on cylinder 8. been working on it and working on it and it's getting better but still it's actually burning very rich. which leads me to believe it may be the MAP sensor since there is no MAF sensor.
Did you have to re-set the PCM? Or just swap it and all worked good?
Great question. When the battery is reconnected it acts like a system reset. There isn't a switch or anything on the PCM itself. Just remount the PCM and plug the cables securely to it, reconnect the battery and go for a start. Should be good.
Thank you. Great video. Hope we get our 1996 going. Ordered a re-built and will install when it gets here. FYI when ordering, the middle number and the large font MUCH match and anything from 2000 and newer must be re-set (flashed) which should be left to a professional.
Which is what they do at the company I bought my rebuild from. Good info on the number font. Thanks!
I think the replacement PCMs have been flashed and programmed to initialize and "learn" the "new" vehicle and SKIM key code upon the first connection and startup.
Is the tcm intagrated in the pcm?
A simple Google search revealed this thread:
www.jeepforum.com/forum/f310/jeep-wj-tcm-3682777/
I don't know all your specs, so I hope this helps.
yes I do tel me IT Will work . my computer costa 402dlls at orriley
Mine is still going strong.
if a chance the pcm on a 99 grand Cherokee do I have to have the computer flashed. or can I just swap it
I believe they flash it based on your VIN, which you send to them before they ship it.
Gotcha. I appreciate it
So it wasn't the cluster that was really making the guages drop?? I was thinking maybe the cluster needed to be replace If you can reply to my question i really appericate it
What is the "cluster"? There was an electrical connectivity issue between the PCM and the engine components. The constant electrical shorts had finally burnt modules controlling things like the IAC valve. The PCM needed to be replaced and I ensured loose cables would not contribute to future connectivity issues by zip-tying them in place.
Ok i have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and i tow it to the dealership and they told me it was the cluster that was making all my warning lights pop up and the guages start to drop
So i just want to make sure what was the real problem because they are trying to charge me 3000 just to get it fix but i was trying to do it myself
@@traysavage430 maybe it is. Maybe that's what they tested and those were the faults that came up. One thing you can do is get a fault code off of the dash. Turn the key in the ignition 3x and you'll get the fault code. Google what the code means and then you can determine if the Chrysler mechanics are on the right track
Ok then thank you for your advice i will give it a try and see what will come about and if i may have another question to ask ya but i will wait until i go get the jeep from the dealership today and let ya kno Thank you so much for replying back
For mine it's starts but check Gage's light turns on and battery starts dropping till it hits 0 then dies
did you fix it?
Yeah eventually have to replace every ground of on it. Plus alternator burnt out. Before could fix it
Hi, is the PCM still running strong? what kind of mileage did you put on it? what kind of climate do you live in ?
So far I've put around 8K on the PCM. No issues. I'm hella over 200K and even took it to Baja on a week's romp. I'm in a similar environment to you, western desert and all that encompasses. But I spend a lot of time in the Sierras. Winter they close roads and restrict access, so I don't get out in extreme cold. She's not my daily driver either. Strictly an expedition toy.
Great. Thanks for answering. I am waiting on a DRB iii scanner emulator from china to see if I can retrieve DTC codes from the PCM because the OBD II scanner doesn't show any code. The fuel gauge and the voltage gauges are at 0 and the SKIM and check engine lights stay on when I flip the ignition to on. The car cranks but won't start...
Man, you gotta get in good with a certified mechanic. My other car's a Honda, way past warranty. My Good Year guys had a code reader in their trunk and read me the code for free. But old Jeeps like the WJ tell you the error codes without a device. Turn the key on and off 3x and the P code will display on the instrument panel.
What a coincidence. My daily driver is a Honda as well. Yeah i tried the 3x key on off and it used to work and come up with a "done" message. Now it wont even work anymore...
Here's a snippet from earlier this week. Not sure if the mileage is in focus or not: instagram.com/p/BTGHBLCDDJV4jQCs87byD9RpvVscNLKN8E8Cag0/?taken-by=anthony_tsffilms&hl=en
is it still working?
+William Moore Yes it is! Thanks for asking. I have a ton of videos to publish, just no time to sit down and do it. The Jeep is evolving. I post pics on Twitter, FB, and the Google+ page in lieu of updates:

ZIP STRIPS WORKED FOR ME
Good action!
need to say that this happened to me on a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee. this fix will work i promise but i am not sure for how long? my idle has stabilized she dont stall anymore, but after a huge bit of money doing a tune up it still runs very rich. its only a 6 cylinder 4.0 and has only 143 thousand on it.
I swapped out my pcm and now i get misfires. Code is p0354 and 3 other cylinder codes. Any ideas?
Google code p0354?
@@TheTSFChannel sure. Replace spark plugs or coils. But has to do with pcm
@@nebulousJames12345 Well I'm no mechanic, but it seems your repaired pcm has helped ID more problems. Have you replaced those spark plugs? Have you had a tuneup since your pcm was fixed? Have you checked the WJ forums for similar problems? I went through an IAC valve before I paid for an actual mechanic to troubleshoot my engine.
Could be the wiring harness to the pcm... www.700r4transmissionhq.com/p0354-jeep-grand-cherokee/
The answers are out there. It's up to you to find them and choose which course of action to take.
the most important part you didn't show was how to disconnect the power cables
+harold souza The battery power cables? That happens at 2:54.
TSF Channel i think he means the cables to the actual pcm.
Ugh... bought one from them and they shipped me the wrong damn thing😪
my scanner sais invalid message from skim wat to I nit to du
+Jorge Higuera No idea. I never used a scanner. I have no experience with what you're talking about. I'm not a Chrysler mechanic. I'm just a guy who paid a Chrysler mechanic to find a faulty part, but replaced it myself.
+TSF Channel how much did you pay to now wat it was
+Jorge Higuera I don't remember. It was over a year ago. Sorry. You could research forums like jeepforum.com to learn what your error code means. Just Google it.
How can I get a PCM
Ebay is where I got mine from.
no such thing as a icd or a ice for a jeep grand cherokee,..guy must of been smoking crack
IAC valve @ 1:37. Stated clearly. Best of luck.
