    Well you are talking about and fixing an issue with the TIPM (Total Integrated Power Module) ......the PCM - is a different thing - (Power Control Module) ....it is the silver flat box in front of the "fuse Box" - TIPM .....the one with 3 big plugs with gazilion wires in each of them . but apart from calling it the wrong name glad it worked for you .....

    WOW! You just saved my 2008 Jeep Patriot from the graveyard. I was minutes away from handing over my title to the Jeep dealer, who said the PCM is bad and they cant fix it. They contacted a junk yard who was going to give me $250 for it. I was reeling because otherwise it is a nice car with only 90,000 miles. I thought I would give this a shot first and woohoo, started right up! My fuse box is different than this one shown on the video, however. We'll see if this lasts and if other issues show up, but right now everything looks good, but now my engine light is on. Oh well. I have a running car. A million thanks!

    PCM - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE

    TCM - TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE

  • @LawrenceHanson-b9s
    @LawrenceHanson-b9s Рік тому +5

    The relay is on the inside of that control module on the bottom side. It’s soldered in you can’t see it. You have to take the control module out and take the entire thing apart in four different pieces to get to the relay solder it out soldering a new one. There was a video I found on UA-cam on how to take it apart.

    • @dinstaar
      @dinstaar  Рік тому +2

      No it is not. You may be talking about a different part, on this one I promise you there is no relay. If it were a relay that failed it would not energize even when power was forced to it as I am doing here. If it were a relay this solution would not work. Think about it.
      This is a solution that works for only this specific problem in Chrysler vehicles. It is a known problem with a service bulletin published about it.

    • @mobileterminaluzer1858
      @mobileterminaluzer1858 Рік тому +5

      The fuel pump relay is directly soldered to the engine fuse box circuit board aka TIPM.
      I had to completely disassemble the fuse box. It's in thin layers pancaked all together to make one complete fuse box.
      2011 TIPM does have it soldered. Pos Jeep/Dodge Chrysler fix is cutting the bottom fuse box wires & tapping into the harness wires & installing at 50amp (large) external relay with a connected 20am mini fuse.
      There's also a 20am mini fuse at the mutifuse aka block fuse (+ charging/junk post) thick positive wire. It's hidden wrapped in electrical tape. Hard to see but can be felt by hand & it stick out as "wtf is that"
      The TIPM will shut down no matter where you're driving. DGAF. Shuts off at red lights, yields, parked, waiting for the train to pass, in a drive thru, at idling & the worst scariest is when at highway speeds will turn off. The digital guages & electronics still work (HVAC, stereo, sun/moon roof, windows, head lights all work. The analog needles (RPM, speed, coolant) drop dead.
      Fck you Dodge,Jeep Chrysler Mopar. A known factory problem that they don't fix other than tell owners they can buy a new TIPM for $1,500.00 programming is extra.
      Jeep/Chrysler, Dodge Mopar is a pos.

      @spsjason2 well a technical service bulletin was released after this video. Coincidence? I don't think so because their solution is very similar, just done below the fuse box instead of on top.

    • @dinstaar
      @dinstaar  6 днів тому

      @@spsjason2 Yes, no one is arguing with you on that. The original recall solution was to replace the computer. These vehicles did not originally come with a fuel pump relay and relied on computer control (a serious flaw if you ask me). There is one issue... The PCM still needs to control the fuel pump relay. The fuel pump is ONLY supposed to run during crank and while the engine is running. NOT while they key is set to accessory or run. If you are involved in a collision where the engine stops but the fuel pump continues to run, if a fuel leak is created by the collision, then you will squirt fuel continuously and risk substantial fire.

    Hello from San Antonio, my son tried to start my 99 JGC but he didn't have the alarm remote and the alarm went off and he tried to turn it off by turning the key. But it wouldn't turn off until he got the remote from inside. Now the jeep cranks over but will not start. It sounds like it wants to but nothing, I've even tried starting fluid. Do you have any advice, I can't afford to take it to a shop at the moment. I would really appreciate any advice you can offer.

I had hoped that circumventing the security system would be something I can do myself since shops here abouts have to do the same thing I'm doing: surf the internet, ask around and just try stuff that is presented here on UA-cam. Your alternator is directly connected to your battery. Look at your wires and battery terminals. Look for broken wires, corrosion, a loose connection, or a bad ground. Also, test the alternator directly at its connections for voltage between 13 and 14 volts. Test the battery too, it may be bad. Follow these directions and you will find the cause of your problem.

      If you watch the begining again, you'll see I diagnose that there is no power getting to the fuel pump at all. The PCM is not sending power to that circuit. That is why there is no power to that fuse.
      This is a common issue for all vehicles Chrysler uses this computer in. The particular Jeep in the video is a WK2 (2011 through 2013). Look for this specific failure in many Chrysler products using this PCM.

    2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I had high hopes for this solution but sadly it didn't fix my problem. I guess I'm faced with having the car towed to a dealership, where there's a two week wait for the new PCM and installation, if that is indeed the problem. A local mechanic thinks it could also be the fuel pump itself. Either way, I'm out around $1000 for this.

    • @dinstaar
      @dinstaar  Рік тому

      You will know for sure if it is the problem by doing checking voltage exactly like I did to see if the fuel pump is getting power when the key is switched on.
      If the results you get are like on my video, it is the PCM. If you jump with fuse taps like I show you, then power is getting sent to your fuel pump. Have you cracked a fuel line to see if fuel is getting pumped to your engine? Have you checked for power at the fuel pump itself? There my be a broken wire.

    • @zumajim
      @zumajim Рік тому

      @@dinstaar I checked the power with my voltmeter at M25 (labeled "FUEL/DSL LIFT PUMP" like you said) and zero volts. Jumpered to M7 which showed 12.5V on the meter. Once jumpered, I saw 12.5V at M25 but no start. Could it be I have a combination bad PCM and fuel pump? For what it's worth, we run this car almost exclusively on E85 ethanol, popular in our area. (Yes, it's a Flex Fuel engine!)

    • @dinstaar
      @dinstaar  Рік тому +1

      @@zumajim Well E85 is garbage. It is alcohol, not gas so it has no lubricant in it and is very rough on everything it touches because of that fact. When you factor in worse gas mileage you'll find that in the end it costs you much more than gasoline because of the added maintenance and repair that you have to do when running it.
      Your likely causes now are a loss of prime, a broken wire going to your fuel pump, a cracked line, a bad fuel pump, or a clogged fuel filter.
      Start by cycling the key on and off several times letting the fuel pump run for awhile each time. If your lines are dry, you need to give them a chance to fill up and build pressure. If that doesn't work, open a fuel line near the engine to see if you get fuel coming up there. If you don't time to check the fuel tank where the filter and pump are.
      Good luck.

      You have the symptoms of a bad battery my friend. As a battery ages it will charge but either not hold it, or lose cranking amps. Sometimes they even show 12 volts but fall flat as soon as you put a load on it. You need voltage and amps to turn that engine over.
      Clicking noises is almost always a starter solenoid attempting to engage but cannot because of low power.

      Mine started off that way and then would only turn over and start again. My theory for you is that the PCM electrical contact may be intermittent. When cold the electrical connection has not been vibrated apart, after driving and bouncing it around it may be coming looser and lost continuity.
