Great video. A bad key or loose key switch can set off the security in the computer and similar things. It finally fixed mine. A bad battery, loose battery cables did it once too, set off the security, which makes it do weird things.

Guys its 20 years old. Who has a 20 year old mobile phone or a 20 year old PC that has never had problems. It's amazing to me that these things stuck under the bonnet getting hot and cold and wet are still working. Plz don't say jeeps are bad. Some of these jeeps have drivers that were not even born when their Jeep was made 😂

Check all the ground wire connectors at the different areas in the engine compartment. Battery , battery grind ire to engine, 3 ground wires behind the distributor on side of the block if its a 4.0 , under the computer box or computer wiring harness is two thick ground wires that mount to the gender well , ground wire from fire wall to engine block. I cut off the factory ground wire connectors and put new crimped connectors on and soldered them . the problem with the factory crimped connectors are that after years of hot/cold and dry and wet conditions the exposed wire inside the crimped connector oxidizes and a fine layer of film forms causing the ground to not make a full connection or hit and miss contact . I also use dielectric grease on connectors that are screwed or bolted down. Jeep 1990's especially are bad about the locking wire connectors that go on the PCM to get weak and cause loose connection at the PCM .

My old TJ Wrangler has the computer bypassed for the injectors and the fuel pump. It has been this way for about a month. This allows the old Jeep to run smoothly after it warms up. I will be buying the computer in about two months. For now, I am satisfied with my computer bypass. It does some very strange things when I first start it and the engine is cold.

We have a 05 GC Limited with the 4.7 L. Been having this very issue for over a year now. We ordered the replacement computer that we had to give the VIN and current mileage before ordering. Haven't replaced it yet as of 6/21/18 because the new one is in route to us. I'm praying this fixes the issue. After watching your video I have great concerns with having to have to take it to the dealer for further programming. Let's pray because this is my 3rd GC and I love it. But this is the last draw I'm about to junk it.

Brian - What was the outcome, if you don't mind? My '07 Commander is doing some crazy stuff ( mostly a weird skip / stutter when I push the accelerator, off and on) - twelve codes on their reader, none related. Every single injector code. My mechanic shop, who I've always felt was honest, says we should probably replace the computer, and it'll be $800 - $1100. I see the computers online, pre-programmed, for a lot less. Hoping to save the money lol

BEFORE I SENT THE COMPUTER OUT THE JEEP WOULD START AND RUN FOR 3 SECONDS! NOW IT DOES NOT RUN AT ALL! ALSO NO POWER GOING TO THE CRANK SENSOR! I HAVE CHECKED ALL FUSES, CHECKED ALL RELAYS ALL GOOD! NO WIRES RUBBING ANYWHERE! THIS IS AN OLD YOU TUBE VIDEO AND I WOULD NOT EXPECT TO HERE BACK FROM YOU!

If it is a no start, no spark condition, take the computer apart, inspect the solder joints, re-solder the broken joints and you are done. Fixed my 94' with a no spark condition. I did it myself for zero dollars. In a different situation, If it runs for 15-20 minutes and then shuts off in repeated experiments then it is the Crank sensor.

This model does not have the bad solder joint problems in the pcm.
They redesigned the pcm around 2004. Just popped one open today it’s a solid design.

Great Video. Just purchased a 2001 JGC v8. After replacing the battery terminals the car is very consistent with the issues it has now. Seems like the PCM as there are several intermittent electrical components going on and off. A/c, ABS, speed sensor, ignition system. I'm not sure if I should attempt to just replace the PCM as I've cleaned all the grounds and can't find any shorts in any of the wires. Some people have said that it could even be the ignition switch and i'm not sure, although it seems like it works after jiggling the key and reinserting it a couple times.

My mom's '97 Laredo began draining the battery constantly. She took to a local mechanic who replaced the PCM and the Jeep began honking nonstop (Security issue?). The odometer reading went from 78K to 221K. The mechanic refused to believe it was his fault (Jeep never left the parking lot) and refused to repair, after charging her $1800! We've taken it to the local Jeep dealer twice, and many other mechanics, but none can find the problem. I pulled the horn fuse. The Jeep is hard starting and stalls now. I've been told the PCM code wasnt programmed to work with mom's Jeep and also the idea of reinstalling the original PCM. I would like to get a new PCM if possible, but can't find a mechanic who knows how to program the Jeep. Anybody in N. Ca who can help??? Thanks so much for the helpful vid. I wish you could repair ours!!!

I'm having similar problems with an '04 Grand Cherokee Overland, 4.7L HO. 266xxx miles. The timing chains & guides are worn but all timing marks still line up correctly. After repairing vaccume leaks, it ran perfectly (aside from chain noise) for a few weeks. Now, it developed a hard stumble during driving & often stalls. Replacing cam & crank sensors did not fix the problem. It got to where it will not start & I'm getting no voltage at the harness connectors for the ignition coils. I found heat discoloration on the terminals of the auto shutdown relay. I am suspecting a relay and/or PCM problem. Needing some helpful advice on how to proceed.

I have change ... spark plugs coils and injectors with petrol pump and map sensor and now for the first time it give me a code p 0302 .. it start easy , it idle , but only a little rought. My next step is to check the electics that feed no 2 cylinder .... injector , coil and do a compression test.. so far I havent touch the pcm.. that means the pcm on this video jeep are still ok 👌 but needs mybe a reprogram... before I was into Jeep and didnt know any... but just hurt about all jeeps problems... I have said... Jeep factory needs to start looking into the computer programming.... that sucks
