I did the skim delete last spring on my 2000 and it worked great, to get rid of the skim light on the dash just pull the gage cluster off and remove the bulb and no more dumb skim light.
Hey Najar, love your channel and all do for the WJ community. I had a similarly fried PCM from jumping my ’02 WJ and getting stuck in theft mode. However, you CAN absolutely have the PCM reprogrammed and removed. I had mine done by an Automotive Computer company called: All Computer Resources, in Florida. You can send in your own PCM or purchase one outright from them with the skim already removed. Worked for me. oh!!! important fun fact. On a PCM with Skim removed. If you 'reconnect' the key skim sensing ring (in the steering cover/column where you insert the key) it will re-program the PCM forcing it to require the key skim signal to start. So, unplug it and leave it unplugged, forever.
@@NajarOffroadHi there, great video! What about Drew Technologies Toolbox J2534 with a Snap On or Cardaq device, I think that option can also work fine, right? Regards from Mexico City.
All Computer Resources in florida ripped us off and spanked us around for 3 months and blew us off whenever we called them. They get an F minus and 5 thumbs down, the worst experience we ever had.
First get the basics done (maintenence fluids, belt, leaks ect )then swap in a 44 in the rear and ditch the 35. Lift tires wheels and so on and so forth.
You should turbo or centrifugal supercharge it, slam it. And have a lighter, awd SRT8 Grand, w solid axles for excellent geometry to the ground and linked at both ends already.
I knew immediately what the problem was when I saw the dash - unfortunately by experience. I fried my PCM when using a lithium jump start battery - Jeep immediately went into "I'm being stolen" mode. Good video as always and looking forward to seeing what you do to the latest WJ!
@@Scott00 Hi Scott, It has revers polarity protection built in. I did black to ground and red to positive. when I turned the jump start battery on it did nothing as if it didn't recognize the battery. I pushed the override button and that's when my issues started - or should I say ended 😧
You might know the this already, but, the skim keys program are stored in the ECU (or PCM if you like) and the keyless entry fobs are stored in the passenger door window switch. Weird.
I haven't had hat issue But I Had My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Wrapped By A Very Good Business But The $1400 Wrap Rotted The Surface Under The Wrap And Now I Had To Order A New Fender, Weld A Couple Very Small Holes,Body Work And Paint,Be Careful With Wrap Because I Didn't Have A Bubble Or Crease And Its A Mess That Will Cost $1500 By The Time It's Painted.
Yea it could be but I made sure everything was working. The fact that it would not connect to the scanner or the HP Tuner made me think the pcm was the issue
does the airbag light have anything to do with the skim module because my 2002 wj limited got an airbag light while heading to a trail and once I got home and it sat over night it just cranks over but no start changed the crank position sensor already but no luck. does the same thing you explained with the gauges and has the no key light.
another wj vid took out the skim unit..and you unplugged yours..any issues( other than the key light) that having the skim disconnected have shown since you fixed it? Thanks
I’ve had this done bout three times , but I keep getting , the same problem , it will stall sometimes while driving , my speakers are now all not working and my lights in the car don’t work all the sudden . Pls help I’m having fits with this
A lot of what I saw in the old ECM looks like saltwater corrosion. You did say you're in Florida now, right? If the Jeep was owned locally, that might be what that was. I could be 100% wrong. It's only what it looks like to me.
My 2000 wj 4.7 has a similar issues with the gauges, windows and door locks. Every morning everything is dead and still the engine start without issues and it takes no more than 20 min for everything to come back to life however i can fix it right away by disconnecting the negative cable with the engine off but i hate to do that because the stereo disconnects from Bluetooth and settings also something is discharging the battery while engine is off.
Did you find a fix for this? I am currently dealing with the same issue. Gauges are dead in the morning but after 15 minutes of driving, they begin to respond and power eventually reaches my windows and my doors. It's frustrating because I have no idea how to get it fixed once and for all.
Yo Bro U Got any suggestions i got check gauges light when driving n temp gauge was rising realy quickly, changed out my oil sensor , alternator n battery had to run threw 2 new batterys before changing my alternator, tried turning it on no crank just clicks what can i do?
So my '02 grand 4.0 has the 2 left guages but none of the others and when i turn the key 3 times i get the code p1685 but it starts and than shuts off would this be the solution to my problem or is it something else
Hi Najar... Actually i have 4.0 Year 2000 California emission type.. The Problem i have is that the battery is okay... Also the Ground and the +12 V to the PCM is okay. The "switched" power to the PCM is also okay.. But the engine does not run. What is also strange.. The voltage on the dashboard move slightly to 8V when i turn the ignition on... but not more.. No matter if the PCM is attached or not... But the PCM is controlling the Dashboard .. What is also strange.. i dont get any Error codes ... So i thing this PCM has reached its end.... and because i am from Austria... its nearly impossile to get a ECU ( PCM) here for this Car. Lately .. the 4.0 was build here in GRAZ ... but was then the WG... Do you have a Adress (link) for a Dealer the can deliever such a ECU and will ship it do Austria Europe... i am searching for a P56041 638A THANK YOU ... GREAT VIDEOS !!!!!!!
the SKIM is the computer "Module" part of the Sentry-Key-Immobilizer-system. It's the thing that detects the chip in the key, and it's VIN matched to the PCM.
Anti-theft system for pretty much any Chrysler product since the mid/late 90s. It's a little ring that goes around the lock cylinder, and it reads the computer chip inside of your key to make sure that it's the right one. If you have the wrong key then the SKIM will think the car is being stolen, so it will automatically shut the car off after 2-3 seconds. So not right away but pretty soon, but plenty of time to drive your car onto a trailer, ask me how I know!
Would this problem give you issues with unlocking the doors with the fob? And make the lights stay on in the cab? I can operate the drivers window and lock but not the other doors

Yes sir! That will be soon once we do the LED Upgrade to it 😜
Will it pull up check engine light if can't find it
I've been running the skim delete for 2years now .and with no problems at all.need a lift and wheels andtires

Yes you can do it yourself with an HP Tuner. Unfortunately my PCM wouldn’t even connect to that it was to far gone!

If someone would like to send me a turbo I’d put it on😂
Lol, send him the 10's of thousands it would cost, and me too.

Interesting that would cause it! Yea luckily I got the PCM at a good price
Did you connect it reverse polarity or was the jump box defective and put out over the max safe voltage (like 15-16v).

Thanks for the info, I'm going to do this! Unrelated question: if you have only a key and no key fob, what can you do to program a new fob?

So im guessing an aftermarket comand start will work after this "delete".
Nice deal on a clean jeep
I definitely got lucky the previous owner didn’t want to spend more on it

I’ve been driving the Jeep no problem! Only the key light is on but that’s not a big deal you can just pull the bulb
ill do the same thing to my wk, hopefully it works

It actually came from Pennsylvania. Maybe the salt in the road? Only one area by the rear door had concerning rust but it’s fixable

The most important thing you need to do first is get some blue metallic tire valve caps!!🤣

what did you do to fix the steering my is lose like that as well.

Do you think p0601 code is my computer or is there a fix to it?
Do you need a code on a replacement pcm or can I just straight swap it out with one off my parts car
You need to program it to your vin. You can do that with an HP Tuner I believe but Verify part numbers on the PCM
