MindyKaling's saying guys don't like being around a girl who 'hates herself'- what is that! That's horrible if u hate yourself, why is she publicizing such a horrible mindset- it's almost saying that's how u get guys to like u which is wrong, if anyone out there hates themself- then say relax and remember we're all a bunch of children finding our way and we're all pathetic most of the time- Mindy has a great talent and platform for comedy- the thing we used to have that helps humans forget about death and hardship, but SJWs like her have murdered it with political correctness
To me, this is an example of how to do a female led action movie right. The problem Ocean's 8 and Ghostbusters 2016 had is they tried to tie themselves to established brands people love, and instead of doing something new and interesting, they played it too safe and stayed tied to that brand and limited their storytelling. Ocean's 8 and Ghostbusters were just so forgettable (seriously, Ocean's 8 is only 5 months old), because the writers had the only new or interesting thing in the movie be that the leads were now female. There isn't anything else that stands out in those movies, which are both ripe for new stories to tell in their worlds. Not a single line of dialogue that was interesting or memorable enough to stand out, compared to so many lines from the original Ghostbusters, or so many scenes and ideas from the original Ocean's movies. Widows is currently at 95% on RT, showing that the hate on those other movies is not entirely a sexism thing(it is a bit from some people, admittedly), it's people wanting interesting stories with female leads, not just re-hashes of the exact same stories, except this time, they're women.
I would argue, what also save this movie is that it isn't tied to a loved movie franchise, these female characters don't replace male ones, they're not seen as an intrusion in a malecentric movie franchise. I don't think the reaction to Ghostbusters would have been better if the movie was actually good. Most of the early reactions to the trailer focused entirely on the female cast, Ghostbusters was "ruined" because of the women. The reaction was also very disproportionate. The movie is bad, but bad movies don't tend to be hated that much. Ocean 8 didn't trigger as much people because nobody really cares for the franchise, it's not a staple of white men pop culture.

Also its kinda insulting to woman to say they NEED a franchise name to make it happen. Ghostbusters was once a original idea. Every franchise begins with a original idea. So why cant something with great female leads begin a new franchise? There saying they need to have that franchise name to work. So they want to make a female 007 movie. WHY?! Can't they make something about a female spy original. Years ago marvel made Black widow. Im dying for that movie to happen. Do i need to explain to people in Hollywood Joss Weaton and the buffy franchise and how it began? That had a female lead and became huge quick. He took that chance and believed in his idea of a female vampire slayer. I'm glad he did.

Completely agree w/ the tangent. Unless it is ESSENTIAL to the plot for gender/sex to be involved (Ex: LGBT films or standing up against sexism) then there shouldn't be any difference. Like he said, if you flip the sex for your characters to the opposite sex, does the film still sound good? Ghostbusters 2016 wasn't bad 'cause there were girls in it, it was just not up to par with the original because of the writing (which was co-written by a guy). If there were guys in the 2016 reboot, people wouldn't be screaming that it sucks because of the women, but because the plot was weak and so were many other aspects. In the end, screenwriters shouldn't try and put people into boxes unless it's a part of their character. Hell, in general, the rule should be that it's a character first and traits come second. You want to make a character that's a girl, not a girl character. You want to make a character that's black, not a black character. You want to make a character that's gay, not a gay character. Ignore the stereotypes and just make a good story with compelling characters that're more diverse than straight, young, white men.

Well filmed and Acted but the screenplay let it down. Barely any of the characters have any depth. Debicki is the only character with an engaging arc. Too many characters. Steve McQueen's style doesn't fit this genre. Easily his weakest movie

This is actually my favorite Steve McQueen film. I agree there are some flaws and Debicki is the standout, but I still loved the entire cast. The heist scene was quick but wonderfully executed.

You're on point about that. Widows was freaking amazing. I was more interested in their plan to pull off the heist than the heist itself. You described it as fish out of water and it was spot on. They didn't know what they were doing or what they were good at, at first. Them coming to and swapping assignments and what not really drew me in. Switching gears now, all female led cast where they are doing "female" things is weak to me. It feels like pandering and very condescending. I would love to see more movies like this.
Take note Hollywood. Write great characters, not female characters 😒

The characters are “great female” characters. Some of their problems are uniquely female and they’re great, too. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

This movie was a kinda half and half for me, the beginning was really great, the opening heist scene is amazing and the introduction to all the main leads is great, and almost all of them give stellar performances, I say almost because of Michelle Rodriguez, she was and still is a really terrible actress, but the others were spot on, especially Viola Davis, and Liam Neeson, for the limited amount of time he’s onscreen is great too, and the standout element of the movie for me is the dialogue, the dialogue in this movie is really sharp and hands down the best part of it all, however the movie does have a portion in the middle that was a little too slow for me, it kinda reminded me of that Gunman movie with Sean Penn, I’m not saying it was as slow as that movie, not by a longshot, but they are kinda similar in the sense that they had really intense, very thrilling openings and then they kinda slow down for quite a long time, what I’m saying is the stuff I really came to see didn’t exactly come into play until much later but I still for the most part was ok with the rest of the movie, so in the end even though their are quite a few parts of this movie that aren’t the most interesting thing in the world there’s still enough enjoyment in the movie for me to say I had a good time with it. 7/10
My thoughts exactly. Also some very unbelievable scenes. Like the kissing scene that was mentioned in this video. And the plot twist at the end was pretty far fetched.
FREE AUDIOBOOKS CHANNEL Yeah the kissing scene at the guys house was douchey and the little girls line at the gun show was extra cringey...It is a slow burn movie but I would’ve shaved off 20 minutes in edits. it’s good not great.

I've been watching Jeremy's videos for a while now because I always appreciate the things he picks up on in movies. They are things I'd pick up on. But this one really shows why he's awesome. He's a man who has a true love for cinema and is very passionate about the things he likes and dislikes. I dig it. Also, I've been waiting a long while to catch Widows!

This is perhaps your.... 2nd best review. I dare not put anything in front of Avengers: Infinity War because that review was... perfect. But yeah, I also enjoyed this movie way more than I thought I was going to. You get invested early on, also, which was surprising. I loved the fact that they didn't know what they were doing. That they weren't motivated by greed but by desperation. That alone gave the film a lot of uummph...

Man, I saw this at a prescreening and I loved it! They don't shy away from graphic content so don't bring your kids to watch... I saw someone being their baby inside, like geez. But Viola Davis made the movie for me, she's phenomenal. I do wish some of the other plot lines were fleshed out more because the ending still left me asking some questions. I would watch it again!

The movie was very dry with a ridiculous plot. Maybe this would have been better served if the was an HBO television series.
This film made all the black men in the film either a ruthless killer or crooked politician.
I was deciding if I wanted to watch this boring overated fluff or Overlord. I made tbe wring choice lol.
I did not connect with this movie and was not believable. This heist genre vehicle was complete waist of time for me as a viewer and the actors involed.

Great review, completely agree. I was interested by the good reviews but I walked out of the movie out of boredom. Too much time setting up a lot of different archs and superfluous scenes.
Watch it again and understand it. Plus the movie was never about just the heist.

Great review Jeremy and I agree with you that the film is really good, but it’s not a Gillian Flynn novel that the screenplay is based on, it’s a British 80’s TV series written by Lynda La Plante which I am old enough to remember watching at the time. Flynn did a fine job transposing it to modern day Chicago 👍🏻

Jeremy, I love your videos, but a lot of the time you review movies I would not see regardless of your review. But I'm still very interested, and get disappointed when there are omitted parts due to spoilers. So I would very much enjoy as many spoiler reviews as you could put out. Even the same length as the non-spoiler videos would be great. I want to know what the cool thing with the keypad was!
