I liked how the first act of the film is focused on David Dunn, the 2nd act on Kevin and the 3rd act focused on Mr Glass. Mirroring the entire trilogy

It's funny how many art programs do exactly that. They steal people's creative energy.
One of Glass' final lines is about how this isn't the climax/showdown, it's actually the origin story.
This isn't the main character dying in a pathetic way, this is the main character's dad being shot in a dirty alleyway. Glass, Horde, and Overseer are the martyrs that inspire and drive an upcoming world of heroes and villains. This is the origin of supers, and new heroes seeing the clover society drown one of their own in a puddle will put them on guard and position them in opposition to that shady group.
That's the Shayamalan twist. You thought this was a full superhero arc. But it didn't end like one because it was actually the opening incident before the story really begins. Normally 3 full movies aren't devoted to such a small part of a story. This microscope view of things is what made this story different.
While I think it's cool being a origin twist, I don't think the movie really pulls it off. There is no set up to build new heroes and I don't buy a vital video being a catalyst for this un this day and age.
Exactly why I love this movie a lot more than most.

Martyrs? Bruce Willis was drowned in a puddle by a regular guy and put up little fight. How is that supposed to inspire others? It would be a good idea for an ending if Shyamalan hadn’t given the three ‘martyrs’ such weak deaths. One guy died from simply being pushed whilst another was just cheap-shot while he was distracted and the other drowned in a puddle. Yes, drowned in a puddle. Let that sink in. He drowned in a puddle. Pathetic.

Dub that could happen Disney made Unbrakable and coproduced this film with Comcast so they would own partial rights to Kevin and full rights to the other characters. It’d be interesting

One of my favourite moments was when Bruce Willis kissed his wedding ring before facing The Beast. It was a great callback to the opening of Unbreakable.

This scene would have been a billion times better with the Unbreakable theme in the background.
Go back and watch Split. Dennis dropping the flowers off at the train like a funeral and then invoking the beast makes A LOT MORE SENSE now after seeing Glass.
Watch unbreakable again, david dunn touches a woman on the train station, he sees a vision of abusing her son aka kevin. Crazy

I like how he pointed out that M. Night self financed this film and Split and most don’t know he hired most of the cast and crew based on films and tv shows he had been watching at the time of writing his projects. It’s so inspiring to see an artist say no to the norm and go his own path and he’s giving many of his workers a shot they normally wouldn’t get.

Sarah Paulson was wearing pink during the interrogation scene. The room there were in was pink. David, Elijah and Kevin were wearing green, purple and yellow respectively. This symbolises that she’s trying to force her reality onto them. Great detail!

The room was a mixture of pink and purple. This let us know that Glass was in control the whole time.
6:32 Photosensitive epileptic here. The strobes were timid in the movie but in reality I imagine it would flash brightly and rapidly. With eyes closed and hands covered it can still be bright enough to shine through. The brightness, flash rate, patterns, colours and whether its regular/irregular are all taken in to account. My own personal experiences are...
1) It can be hypnotic and I'll be transfixed until someone pulls me away
2) I can start to spasm
3) I can experience scintillating scotoma
4) I can lose time (or have time speed up/down)
4) Mood swings (fear/aggression are typical, sometimes laughing fits) potentially leading to full blown psychosis
5) Extreme deja vu (hoooo boy)
6) Confusion/Amnesia
7) Grand mal seizures (full blown convulsions with loss of consciousness)
8) and some bizarre stuff you won't believe and I can't prove (psychologists call it psychosis and delusions!)
Covering hands just ain't good enough. He could turn around and see the light bouncing off the walls, like with ambulance/police cars - the worst part is their lights bouncing off every other vehicle/window they pass. In those situations my whole body would be rigid. If I was enraged, attacking people, shouting about and people start shining strobes I'd end up either begging people to stop or dancing on the floor. It's like krytonite, it has an effect just by being near it. Won't be long til I end up assaulting cyclists with those flashing lights!
Great movie. Definitely going to watch it again.

That scene at the end where David’s son sees the person behind him watching the video of his dad bending that steel bar and he smiles with tears in his eyes. That’s a great scene and it gets me!

but as for him being a DC man well thats was obvious when you watch unbreakable you can see the superman allegories in it
I don't think he's necessarily a DC man it's just that when you think of the most iconic superhero you tend to think of Superman.
I also loved that the three leaf clovers ☘️ represent their unspecialness.
Now that we're at the spoiler review, something that jumped out at me... (SPOILERS!)
M. Night mentioned in interviews how studios wouldn't market Unbreakable as a comic book movie because of the negative perception toward such movies at the time. He also mentioned the middling reviews it got depressed him.
And then it hit me: Sarah Paulson's character, the secret group she was with, the whole plot to convince the leads that they aren't superheroes...that's all the studio and critics he dealt with making Unbreakable.
Even the ending with the leads dying but their exploits finding and inspiring an audience, mirrors Unbreakable underperforming at the box office and only really gaining traction later.

Joshua Lann One of the major problems of Rotten Tomatoes is that the Tomatometer is only showing how many critics gave a positive review, it does not make a difference between those who gave an average rating or a bad one, it lumps the two together. That's why you should only pay attention to the average rating (in this case 5.1/10) and not the way more prominent Tomatometer. In the case of this film it shows that most critics thought of the film as being average.

Did you actually read the ratings the critics gave it? They literally trashed it. 1/4 etc. they treated it as an utter failure. Mostly cited how bad the ending was and how M. Night failed again. There is no reason only 35% of critics gave it an average review. The film was at least an above average, better than split imo.

Re: Casey holding Kevin’s hands... I’ve worked with prisoners, bad people. Sometimes a simple bit of contact can mean the world. When she first reaches for his arm, I actually flinched and thought ‘NO!’ But I’ve seen the look on his face when shaking someone’s hand fearlessly, without judgement. Such gratitude.

I think the existence of the "Clover Society" should have been hinted at earlier, like maybe a quick glimpse of Staple's tattoo or something. The fact that we start seeing the tattoo at the very end seems to come out of nowhere. I was also sad that after everything he's been through David ended up being killed by some random henchman ducking his head in a puddle... I really wish that in his final moments he would have caught a glimpse of the other goons manhandling his son and that would have given him the resolve to get up and get over his water 'kryptonite', which if we are following what is suggested in the film, is just a mental construct caused by childhood trauma. Then again, keeping David alive would have been the _safe_ thing to do, and we know that Shyamalan is the king of subversion. Other than those two things I liked the movie, although it was a slow burn, and I can understand it not being for everyone.
Yeah I was hoping David's weakness of water was just a fear and it would backfire on the doctor.
i hate the asylum concept, it feels like it just kept the action away from the movie, but if they *had* to do it, they should've at least set up the clover earlier on, that way it would actually be a shock when it shows up in the twist

I liked the intention behind the ending and how it played out, but I feel really put off by how the main characters were treated. I know why it happened, I understand the intention behind it but it was a tough pill to swallow. That being said, the acting, cinematography, use of color and general story was great.
I found the movie very complicated to love, but no way in hell can you say it’s a trash movie. It’s very well done.

This movie really hit me hard in the feels!!
And i love the unpredictable yet realistic approach to how it ended. That is what happens unf to real life heroes in the real world... they die. And many we do not even get the chance of hearing their braveries or stories, as it would be with them unless Elijah uploaded the feed :)

I interpreted Casey's power to be her empathy. She's tends to pick up on what others want or need to hear. For example, In Split, even though she was manipulating Hedwig I think she genuinely cared for him.
Casey represented the loving, caring mother type Kevin did not have from his own.
I also thought that she has the power of persuasion since when she comes to staple and asks to see him she initially declines and then lets her in anyway after a moment
I thought her to be a re-gen; on par with Wolverine because of the self harm scars; one could assume that if she cut, she stabbed. If she stabbed, she shot. And so on and so on until one day she is kidnaped by KWC and we jump in on her story.
She has no superpower. You are misguided in the trend of Superhero movies. There won't be a sequel. The meaning of the movie is that we as humans have super powers, but that we are numbed into not even trying ourselves.

The whole time I was thinking, "why hasn't anyone lawyered up" everyone just accepting they have to stay there.
I think it's a bummer that they died, but all in all, I saw everything I wanted to see. Dunn vs Beast, Price being the mastermind...The movie delivered.

I'm not sure what movies people have been watching, a big chaotic finale doesn't fit the tone at all.
The big battle they talked about at the end doesn't even make sense really, Dunn and The Beast are strong...but they're not THAT strong, authorities would put them down eventually. A big climax like that would be inconsistent and stupid and subverting your expectations of that was the point in the ending.

The twist with the society definitely hurt the film for me. I mean to have these characters be killed by random henchmen of a random society that had no emotional significance to this trilogy at all. Bummed me out. Loved these characters and it was a bullshit way to have them go out.

I definitely had that feeling after the last Jedi as well with the way that Luke Skywalker was handled at the end. This movie was an entertaining disappointment. Can't believe Bruce Willis died in the puddle and the Beast never got to fulfill any profound destiny. The secret society was so cheesy over the top. In real life they will be trying to harness the powers of these individuals
@@kamalmiah3752 a secret society trying to harness the powers of them is much worse and cliché. There's countless instances of humans making weapons out of super beings. Hell, X-Men Days of Future Past shows the creator of the Sentinals using a sample of Mystique's blood to use it for the machines and we see in the future the Sentinals using the mutant's powers against them.
So how M. Night went with the society using psychiatry to convince the super beings that they don't have powers was actually different, not perfect, but different.
I see the society as trying to keep peace. Think about it, comic book worlds are always chaotic, some new threat comes out and people get hurt because of it. These guys are trying to keep a lid on it

The ending made the movie .in the end you cheer for everybody even the villains that was great character building. Bravo M Night

As much as I hate a lot of the choices made I can tell M Night planned some of them for a while. Knowing that Kevin's father died on the same train David Dunn was on explains that weird scene in Split where he goes to the empty train car to bring out the Beast. Just some pretty cool recontextualization.

I loved this film. You rarely see movies this bold and challenging anymore. My theater was applauding at the end
I wish I was in that screening. My theater had barely 30 people, half of whom left midway.

Mine stay seated the whole credits (i thought they're waiting for a scene), but they remain seated even after that. I realized they were in shock.

James McAvoy should get an academy award for this role. His range and delivery was nothing short of amazing.
The ending left me annoyed at first but the more I analyse it the more I like it. This film is definitely a breath of fresh air in the rinse and repeat oversaturated superhero genre.

I personally loved it, including the ending. I think its a fantastic trilogy, only watched Unbreakable for the first time last week and saw Split in the cinema when it came out. I can understand some peoples views towards the ending. But I love the fact that these films don't feel like anything else, they stand on their own merit and it's awesome to see what M Night Shyamalan has done here. Acting was superb, loved the camera shots and the the music was fantastic. Honestly can't hate on this one, first film I've watched in 2019 and happy about it :)

I personally really liked the film and thought it was a very satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. Just my opinion. This will be a cult classic trilogy where there are more detractors but still has a loyal following.

@@peacefuldawn6823 Paul Giamati(sp) gave a tour de force performance. Some of the best cinematography I've ever seen. The story like most of his movies is serviceable. You should see it.
My favorite movie trilogy possibly. My only complaint is that the twist feels kind of thrown in at the end. In unbreakable you can piece together that Elijah is the villians, even though most people wouldn't. If you listen to split, you could tell that it was in the unbreakable universe before the ending. I've seen this movie twice now and the whole secret society thing just seems to come out of left field. It also seems kind of funny to me that Dunn even has a moment of disbelief. Like lady, if I'm not a superhero then why do you have me in a steel contained room surrounded by my weakness.
I agree. The biggest twist in split for me was that Kevin's father died on the same train, meaning he ended up living with his abusive mother and that lead to him becoming The Horde. But because it wasn't spelled out until the third film, many didn't believe it. Their argument was the explanation of him dying on a bus. They believed it. Which always puzzled me cause it's like "have you never heard of a red hearing before!?. It's purposely there to throw you off".

I agree. I honestly quite enjoyed everything about the movie. I can see how some people would get annoyed at the ending, but I personally enjoyed it without any real annoyance.

@@StrattonSmith i mostly liked it, while i enjoyed split-everybody except james mcavoy who is a treasure and the psychiatrist character-is a fucking idiot. Especially anya taylor joy who took way too long tp decide to run after seeing her "friends" get maced in a car to the poinr she is unrealistically stupid (and i get its supposed to be a start to her growing into a stronger character but still too unrealistic-if that part had been in slo mo it would have worked but it was shown in real time...and once she opened the door she still has 5 seconds to start running. And not to mention other dumb moments (while some are smart they are inconsistent inconsistent due to her stupid momemts not balancing with her smart ones-AND I GET one isnt always smart 100 percent of the time but in film a character needs consistent decision making. Especially when she sees and hears one of the girls being eaten alive and just stands there and even walks towards the beast like she is mentally handicapped-like she just had a stroke....
This film doesnt have that much bullshit and even makes anya taylor joy a better character, fixing some issues i had with her before-clarifying some details that werent clear by the end of the last film although she still doesnt consistently make decisions since she decides to see kevin out of a sense of caring...if it had been out of curiosity and trying to make sure he couldnt hurt anyone again that would work but its actually too personal like she somehow became friends with a guy she knew for literal seconds-bit of a stretch shamalean! But she is better so ill give some points for effort at trying to make her more bearable at least. James mcavoy is just as amazing here. Bruce willis yeah gets kind of pushed to a sideline but i believe gets enough time to see progression of a man getting quickly tired of mind games and just wanting to give in to make things either and it being his enemy to help him bring him back to shape...but actually it um...spoilers gets them all killed-asshole. Samuel does a good job as glass and the way he sneaks on you almost making you forget he is a threat...clever on m night to make that the case in the film and to the audience. And the first half is perfect-cant find a thing i would fix...butthe second half almost succeeds and takes big risks but doesn't succeed in the areas where it needed to the most. I like the idea of tricking this service from keeping the status quo into their favor but by taking their lives-feels like a realistic version of infinity war but less climactic but thats not a bad thing- these films mainly unbreakable has some tropes and some of the layout of a comic-but keeps it in the real world-the end feels real and not too big...(plus did you see the films budget?there was no way they were going to that big building to battle-which also turned the always in a big city with big buidlings fight on its head keeping it in a small locale,leaving little wiggle room to improvise which makes the fighting more real,personal and makes it so every move is important because it could lead to their very death but even that gets turned on its head when it shows whatever happens or whomever the victor,this group will use all their power to keep the status quo of normal humans being the top of the food chain and make sure the 3 of them were just mistakes needing to be poofed out of existence...revision history in their eyes to save humanity from discovering the truth of greater power because it could give advantage to the weak to overtake the smoothtalkers and sleazy polticians OH sorry the strong and give rise to a new race of beings that could be greater than before-but like in any comic story-people are scared of giving up the mantel and giving our legacy to something new...but how they went about leading the 3 making the announcement feels slightly unearned...i dont feel the last part was genuine or subtly well built....
But mostly its pretty damn good. Not as good as unbreakable but better than split. I say its worth at least one watch.
I think people went in expecting a classic M.Night twist. I too was annoyed at the ending but the more I analyse the more I realise it’s the perfect end to the trilogy. It reinforces and truly showcases the ideas of broken people becoming stronger and ordinary people having the capability to do extraordinary things that M.Night has embedded into the previous two films.

I really liked Glass. I saw it with my brother/friends & we spent 30 minutes just talking about it in the theater lobby. Glass is very ambitious, but it mostly pays off. It's sincerely goofy, creepy, unsettling, & it has one of the craziest 3rd acts EVER. Glass has one of the MOST I-N-S-A-N-E 3rd acts that I've ever seen, & that's a compliment. It DID NOT go how I thought it would. At first, I didn't like it at all, but as it kept going, I was sincerely blown away. I ultimately found it pretty powerful. Glass will be discussed for a long time, & it feels like I'm going to defend it a lot. It's not perfect, it has a very messy 2nd act. But M. Night Shyamalan has made a trilogy that is truly one of a kind, & I respect him for that.

I'm right there with you. I find it easy to defend the movie though, as everything is explained in it. It's really just about leaving your expectations at the door, as Chris also realised on second viewing.
Great review. I too felt perplexed by “The Organization” and David’s arch in the movie, until I thought about what the organization could represent on a deeper level.
I think The Organization represents society, and how an underline goal of society is to normalize and nullify the extraordinary. Both society and this film’s “Organization” work to Shepard the masses into average mundane existences, out of fear that a world where people that strive for greatness and were allowed to be extraordinary, would prove catastrophic in the long run. It’s why they showed the organization meet in public places, but wait for normal people to leave the room before they communicated. It’s also why Dr. Staple asked David if he almost believed her, because if he chose to nullify himself to normalcy, she would have let him go.
This idea of fighting against the norm is echoed by M. Night himself, in his cameo where he sites that he “Got his life together with the power of positive thinking” (believing in himself). I think this also reflects his confidence that Glass itself would be a success, and prove critics wrong that said his career was over. He, like the super powered beings in the movie, only needed to believe in oneself and could prove extraordinary.
If you believe the above, I think that also explains David’s arch. His doubt is what in the end destroyed him. He doubted himself his whole life, consistently chose to limit himself when he faced mental adversity and normalcy. Even water, the most normal thing in our existence, is what he chose as his weakness because he believed it was. That’s why M. Night ended both The Hoard and The Overseer by the same hand, the agent of the organization (society). In juxtaposition, it was only Mr. Glass, a man who’s mental fortitude and strong belief in himself proved victorious. That’s why there are so many flash backs to young Elijah in this film and Unbreakable, it always showed that despite his fear, despite knowing he could and would be harmed, he always pushed forward and believed in himself. That’s why in the end of this three part series, Mr. Glass proved to be the winner over all adversity. The Hoard and The Overseer where fighting the wrong battle, battles of belief and the need to prove themselves normal or extraordinary. It’s also why the three normal people the, cast of main characters survived (Casey, Joseph, and Mrs. Price) because their belief never wavered.
When you think about it the ending being hopeful is used to show that Mr. Glass was the real hero. He’s been fighting for the justice of extraordinary people (the organization had been killing and nullifying them for 10,000 years). Maybe everyone in this world has the potential to be extraordinary, they just need to both believe in themselves and survive great suffering, and now the world knows it.
Or maybe I’m looking too far into this!
Cinematography was lovely though, I love the color palette and the music.
Well on the positive side, the characters hold true to their movie titles.
David Dunn is unbreakable in the first act. But becomes momentarily doubtful bringing him back to somewhat his old personality from the 1st film.
Kevin/The Beast resumes his usual agenda till he gets captured. He becomes split in the 2nd act to question himself.
Elijah Price seems fragile throughout most of the film. But ironically once they all get together to talk with the doctor, he's the only one unfazed but the supposed revelation. Ironically he's the hero that needs to step up to free himself and the others from this ordeal. And his agenda goes into motion. First though, he speaks to both Kevin and David. Kevin to restore his doubt and join him, and to motivate David to get out of his funk and be the hero again.
Then another revelation comes where it connects all 3 of them in one incident and How Elijah "created both of them" to make this happen. Of course things start to get out of hand.
But because David gets through that door, he comes back as unbreakable and even with the revelation, he becomes unfazed and still plays the hero till the end.
The beast/horde becomes conflicted and split in this revelation. And ultimately decides to destory both sides to prove his own existence in the end.
Elijah Price is called Glass, not just because we know how fragile and his powers, but he will outshine all of them into claiming his victory. Despite fragile to his inevitable fate that needs to happen to succeed his plan, His mom calls him "spectacular" in the end because he succeeded. He shines by having the world know they exist and passes the torch to his mom, David's son, and Kevin's mutual friend. In the end, Elijah cared for both of them and didn't want the organization to win. You can argue he doesn't care about them, but why does he allow to email David's son and The victim of the beast to pass on evidence of their existence?
Glass is the movie where the title villian wins. But M Night tried to respect the predecessor films in his own way while still trying to spin things his own way.

Yasss the only thing i dislike is David Dunn's character, we didn't get enough from him. I was like "Thats it??" He did the vision only a couple of times in the movie and he didn't show his power enough. I had high hopes cuz i watched Unbreakable before this
I understand everyone's frustration but I think that because Unbreakable exists that was Davids arc. Glass seemed (and succeeded) to close out the arcs of Glass and Kevin whilst David had been superheroing for 20 years. Just a thought.

I usually love happy endings and I was expecting B. Willis to survive and win. But I loved the ending, I don't get why so many hated it. When Glass said "It's an origin story", it gave me chills. I think Shyamalan ended his trilogy in a beautiful way, while opening the door for many possibilities with other characters.
I absolutely loved the direction this movie went and the message. My disappointment was that the finale was a little anticlimactic. I wanted a bigger, more glorious, powerful ending rather than people just looking at their phones lol. I think Glass (evil) , David Dunn (good) and Kevin (conflicted) represent the incredible potential that everyone has in themselves across, which is what Mr Glass is trying to show the world at the end. And Sarah Paulson is trying to keep this reality hidden from people. Really interesting and cool movie.
I'm fine with Elijah not being a villain in the end, that really cements how unique these three characters really are, but I agree that the film, partially because of Elijah's victory, kindve betrays David.

The thing you have to realize is that *we* want superheroes, the audience wants superheroes, that's what we're there to see.The world however doesn't because superheroes means supervillains and that just means chaos.
We can look at it as fun and exciting because it's not our reality.
Take the Hulk for instance, awesome big green guy!In reality though it'd be shit scary worrying that he could just randomly appear with a giant monster and they could fuck your whole town up.
Superheroes and villains are not cool in that respect, they're dangerous and scary.
Mr Glass is still the villain because he showed the world what's out there and encouraged anyone special to stand out whereas this secret society was killing them before they got too extreme, protecting the world.
It's an utterly fascinating story if you ask me, this society are clearly the bad guy in the film but if you really think about it, they're the heroes(though they go about it in roundabout ways), they keep the larger population safe.

Jordan Denny I agree, I feel like he is showing us that the world is not so black and white. There are not always super villains and super hero’s, but rather people who are neither good nor bad.
To understand why the movie ended the way it did, pay close attention to Shyamalan’s penning: “This is not a cartoon. This is the real world”. And in the real world, ladies and gentlemen, people die. Humanity’s greed; quite specifically, their envy, will prevent those gifted from ever coming out of hiding. Mankind will find a way of destroying them, just like internet trolls found on this feed, shunning someone’s art. Nobody rates success as much as they’d like watching someone fall. Humanity didn’t want redundancy, hence killing those gifted without exposure. As soon as Mr Glass’ video surfaced online, we see Dr Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) scream because their organisation now knows they’re fighting a losing battle. Humans, sooner or later, will near extinction in evolution of those on the new spectrum; namely, Dunn’s spectrum. The ending, in my humble opinion, is an acquired taste - nevertheless - smart. The war has only just begun. “This was an origin story the whole time”.

No matter how special someone is, they're still human and part of society. That's why all those plots about metas or superhumans are so dumb. Especially since some use gadgets.

I feel like one of the reasons this movie mostly works is because of both Split and Unbreakable. With the large gap between both, it garnered two generations of fans; the people who saw Unbreakable in theatres and around that time of its release, and the people who saw Split in theatres and around the time of that release. Two groups people who had each a phenomenal film that they hold dear, and then the culmination of both within this.
I would've never thought that in a movie with a guy with super strenght who fights crime and a man who can replace his personality with a beast like creature, the most badass of all the characters in a movie is a guy in a wheel chair.

the better question is who keeps distributing them. almost every movie he's made in the last decade feels like him just stroking his own ego, that's why he keeps giving himself cameo's, he's an egotist who is in love with the smell of his own farts and think he's the bestest, most cleverest film-maker in history. it's the same reason why his dialogue always sucks and comes off incredibly unnatural, he thinks not using any contractions makes himself sound smarter when it just comes off as dumb and self-important

One detail I found hilariously silly. When The Beast punches Elijah in the chest and shattered his ribs I noticed the sound made was that of broken glass. I get it, but that's still really dumb.
Dormammu if he had the strength of 25 people or 12 and his bones were glass like his fist should of went through him. He was putting holes in concrete while climbing.
It is almost like it is a comic book movie. :)
in movies production they use samples that reminds of the sound IRL, watch a Fast and Furious movie and pay close attention to the audio during a chase scene, nothing make sense.
Well in Unbreakable I think there were a few scenes where Elliah "breaks" himself with similar glass shattering sounds. He is known as Glass for a reason :)
Some people have already drawn on the fact that he breaks his arm at the same place he broke his arm in the flashback as a kid playing!

I'm sure he did want us to feel bad-but that doesn't make the moment good just because he succeeded. If you like the twist that he dies in a pothole because it's different, well, I can't take that from you. But it was incredibly disappointing for me. It didn't 'teach me a lesson' about real life. I read r/morbidreality. Believe me, I get what real life is and it normally doesn't involve man-beast supervillains flipping ambulances over. It felt mean-spirited. People felt so much joy seeing that character after 20 years. And his story ends horrifically, cruelly, and painfully. He didn't die for anything. Oh, right, so Mr. Glass could encourage other people to find and nurture their own gifts... so that they too can realize how fleeting and meaningless those gifts are when they trip on a curb and break their neck.

I feel weird about watching reviews for this movie, because I don't think I've ever disagreed with a critic and audience consensus more than I do for Glass. I thought it was a great way to conclude a trilogy. Who ever said we needed a traditional ending to our superhero movies or to any movie franchise in general for that matter? Shyamalan has never been someone who takes the traditional route, for better or for worse. And I thought that the conclusion to this movie was fantastic. Say what you will about the deaths of the characters, and I would definitely agree that Kevin and David especially could have died in a more heroic way, but I didn't think the movie left their stories unfinished. David had already completed his story by becoming the Overseer, and Kevin finally took back the light. Without the Beast, he had no story left to tell. And as far as Mr. Glass was concerned, he finally found his place in the world and with the release of the videos showed to everyone that his vision of a superhero, comic book world did exist. He won in the end, and in a much less villainous way than in Unbreakable, as no deaths were involved. He got one over on everyone who tried to hold him down and silence the world he knew existed, and I was left feeling satisfied at the end. Overall, I don't think you're wrong for not enjoying the ending, especially if you were expecting something else, but for someone who really didn't know what to expect, I went along with it, and was ultimately pleasantly surprised.

What did they expect? An ambigious ending that gives no closure to the 3 main characters? Another 5 movies with the same characters ? We saw plenty of Kevin's character in Split and Glass and we saw David and Elijah's origin and conclusion as well.

Usually how a film ends determines who’s movie it is in context to narrative characters. Same goes for Avengers Infinity War, if Thor won, it would be his movie.

He always was bad, for the sake of the greater good... so it makes since that the ending was hopeful, because unlike most villains... Elijah wasn't evil for evil's sake... he was evil for the sake of the greater good. He wasn't a villain... he was an anti villain.

This movie is filled with nonsense, and these are just the ones that popped in my mind while watching the movie once. And the twist of the existence of a secret cult was incredibly ugly, and completely unrealistic as Stuckmann said.

It's possible I missed it or just forgot, but how did the psychologist even know that David Dunn had a weakness to water? I doubt he would mention it to literally anyone.
And I was literally stirring in my seat with frustration during the scene where she tries to instill doubt in the 3 main characters. It went on for way too long and was not convincing.

Everything super incredible can be explained, but yet it's true, glass says that, besides, David dunn just use a small amount of his power against normal people, he could perfectoy thought that he's just a strong man after thet facts the psicologist presents to him.
The cult dont kill, or tries to avoid it, they dont takes martyrs, and who's gonna believe 3 people that says superheroes are real without a registration or something.
The last point is kind of left over, you understand that glass has all covered so explained everything about the sneaky parts can be a bit to much.

I really enjoyed Glass at the cinema, and I like it even more on repeat viewing. I hadn't seen unbreakable or split before seeing it, so I had no expectations. I thought the fight scene at the end was amazing. The antithesis of over the top super hero cgi. Excellent
Do u notice that the secondary characters like Casey, Elijah’s mom, and Jospeh in the end when they sit together at the train bench you notice that they wear the same colors as the main characters and when I noticed it in film I was like woooow

That's only if you actually accept that two buff guys in a parking lot slowly flipping cars, using leverage to bend a metal bar, fighting and denting a panel van, and a few other things, ACTUALLY qualifies as proof super people exist.
This is security cam footage that could easily be either faked or staged, but more importantly... the movie ITSELF, in the interrogation scene with the three, points out how all these supposed abilities are pretty common. Hell, a quick search on YT right now will show people any one or more of these.
HOW is that supposed to be so impressive that people now believe supers exist?

It makes sense. The reason why there are only 3 super humans is because a secret society kills them.
I wish they’d have followed through with idea of these characters not actually being superhuman but rather they’re belief being so strong that their mind convinces their body that they are, when they first hinted at that concept I was like “Holy crap, that’s actually really interesting” but by the end of the movie that interesting concept gets thrown right out the window and we find out that people with these powers *do* exist but this facility is trying to cover it up, to me that’s not nearly as interesting, so I wish they would’ve gone with the idea they hinted at first instead

I really wanted to like this movie. I loved the previous two. But this movie just felt... lazy, and dull.

I think we have come to expect too much from him now. I agree that the ending is anti-climactic, there was a slow pacing and no decent pay-off. Explain to me how those are bad again? We, as a generation, have turned into a group of people who want to occasionally see the bad guys win and good guys lose. You can see it mirrored in the way movies and TV shows are happening nowadays. So yeah, it is different and that is not only okay but it makes it even better.
Plot holes - I don't know which ones you're referring to so please give me some examples. I am not saying the movie doesn't have any. In fact, it probably does but all movies- I emphasis ALL movies have plot holes. It is basically the same thing as looking back to your past and thinking something should have been done differently. It is impossible to keep a movie free of plot holes.
The 'Unrealistic' ending according to you- felt pretty realistic to me. Yes, it is totally believable that a society exists because some people are jealous/worried about the superheroes coming to surface. If superheroes existed in our world, I can assure you there would have been people who thought along the same lines. And the 'master plan' was not exactly Elijah's. It was the one made by the other three. There is no implication that those clips did anything. They just got released - and some people would talk about it and some won't. Either way, as a doubt or question or as a conspiracy theory, the idea that superheroes exist will remain out there in the world. I am sure if Elijah had more time, he would have come up with a better plan.
Now coming to admission because not everything about the movie was perfect - The exposition and cringy comparison to comic books. Those were things that could have been avoided and I believe that happened because Shyamalan didn't have a good assistant who should have told him an audience's POV. The man is a genius and got recognition pretty fast and that probably went to his head making him think of himself as super-smart and us, the audience as dumb. That was probably what led to all those exposition scenes.
All things considered - is it a movie that bores you at times and is slow moving? Yes. Is it a disappointing movie? Not in the slightest especially if you cared enough to notice small details here and there.
Well I watched the movie months ago and I can barely remember it because I wasn't a huge fan of it, so forgive me if I don't start dissecting it.
What I will say is that I'm ok with slow paced stories and bad guys winning. I'm a huge fan of Breaking Bad, for example. But even that show knew that if you have a slow pace, you need to compensate with a satisfying climax, even if it's a bad one. And Unbreakable didn't manage to do it, at least for me. Being anticlimactic doesn't make it a better movie. You can have a plot twist where the bad guys win but still make it satisfying.
Youre taking the ending too literal its transformative, you're supposed to feel pissed that david is killed by an off camera nobody.
Snowden, Assange, Tommy Robinson, Martin Luther king, Kennedy. The list is longer but you get it. Exceptional people silenced and or killed to perserve the intrests of order.
I think the problem most people have with this movie is that they were expecting a comib book ending. They were expecting the bad guys to lose and the hero to win. But the truth is real life is not like that. Most often than not the good guys do lose and as heartbreaking and horrible as it was to see David Dunn go out like that, it was realistic in a sense. And Elijah not being a super evil villain is also realistic. He always did things to be able to find the truth. He went about it the wrong way, yes, but finding the truth is not necessarily an evil thing to do. I have mixed feelings about this movie tbh. I was an emotional wreck at the end. I wanted a different ending for all three characters, maybe I wanted a happy ending. But life usually does give us bittersweet endings. And well... I don't know.
No that's stupid. People don't like it because it's manipulative and bettays the premise. Not because they were expecting marvel.
At one point I wonder if the movie was going to be Elijah's delusions. That's the kind of movie I knew I was dealing with. And that would have been much more horrid.
The truth is that it felt unnecessarily mean spirited for the triology, genre, and in general.
In real life people aren't that strong. And most off people are accepted and there wouldn't be a retarded organization where people convince themselves to murder citizend like that and it goes unnoticed and science wouldn't care and the military wouldn't want them.
And ancient times they wouldn't have been considered valuable.
Just because you like this interpretation doesn't make it "realistic".
No one knows how it would be in real life because it doesn't exist.
But take away something from real life and just recognize how common place it is. That's reality.
Shows where people are used to it are more "real" probably.
Elijah's plan was always the same. What made him a villain is how far he went. He killed people, he was still bad. Just because the organization was worst doesn't change that. His goal didn't change. The backdrop did and the fact that people were actively trying to immorally stop it.
Before that didn't exist. And he'll, no one thought it existed.
So he's not a good guy. He didn't even do a good thing because he potentially didn't even know about the organization. Even if he did, we don't know if he knew how immoral/unethical they were.
It could really just be coincidence.
As a kid he went under for 5 minutes so I bet he’s alive after the 2 minutes of puddle.

I think a lot of people turned on this movie when they killed David Dunn. Also, I thought that Kevin's dad being on they train that day was already known. I thought the twist was going to be the Psychiatrist being Kevin's sister or something. Hell, make her Kevin's father.
For me I still liked it but the moment they got into the conspiracy nonsense was when the tide turned for me. I still liked the Kevin's dad reveal because it was treated more as a reveal for the characters and it had appropriate consequences for them

Epic, and all the actors and M. Night again; killed it making this story! I'm impressed how originally Split was a spin-off of Unbreakable, but this one is a true sequel to both of them. Truly nailing that task, and shifting enough to one style or the other when necessary. It was so good to see the evolution of David's life, and with Joseph now at their shop, the "Dunn Home Security." Plus seeing Joseph all grown up and played by the same actor was a really good surprise since it wasn't a given, since so many years had passed. David's necklace with the ring as part of his crime fighting uniform representing his love for his late wife is a nice touch too. As is the name some civilians were calling him now, "Overseer," which is my favorite of them because it has two meanings, the second and less obvious is relating to his power to see, in a sense, the wrongs someone has done. I also found it neat how Night connected the characters he played from both movies in this universe, prior to Glass, being in fact one and the same. Now, when the Horde comes into the picture and is still abducting young girls as they did a few weeks prior with Cassie, I couldn't help but get excited about when these two would clash. And it was awesome it happened once so soon in the film, and was actually a nice appetizer. Dr. staple's arguments and theories were really well written and actually did make me second guess and rethink the previous two movies for the slightest bit, but the level of how spectacular these two are, it just couldn't be. The doctor is so manipulating, and you come to really hate her, once you know what's the truth with the plot twist and how she was in on everything relating to these extraordinary people the whole time. Impressively, this is another movie you could watch the first time and get one view on it, and then the second time I have a different read on everything, especially with the doctor; how she is trying to confuse her patients and eventually get them killed if they don't stop believing in themselves. Even manipulates her whole staff or Cassie to get the Horde killed. I think the ending really works when it comes to the Beast when he turns into Kevin, Kevin who always wanted to die and says. He sees that he's in a lot of pain and yes, you could probably change it to the Beast and probably survive it, but the thing is he wanted to die, so he stayed in the light with Cassie hoping that would be his end. The ending is very emotional, it's so sad to see David struggling and Joseph realizing they had drowned his father. And although the story was very dark, it handles its levity really well, even having laugh out loud moments and finally ending in an uplifting, hopeful way where Elijah outsmarts the organization, and opens for you to contemplate what the future will be of that world. It's a 10/10!!
Sidenote; the fact Mr. Shyamalan found a way to use, but also repurpose, two deleted scenes from Unbreakable for a different context is incredible! He incorporated them as flashbacks here, and to add more to Mr. Glass' tragic past as he seems to be traumatized by the time he was helpless on the ride and got his bones broken.
I LOVED split and LOVED glass. A pretty amazing trilogy. I hope that they do a Blu Ray set of it.
I love the after credit scene where Mel Gibson and the green alien show up and take the three bodies into the space ship...

I've just seen Glass and I loved it. It had everything I wanted from the third installment of that trilogy, message was wholesome and relatable and despite critics made me worry, it was better then most of the mainstream superhero movies of 2010's in my humble opinion (that of sad and tired comic book fan who rarely got what he wanted and when I did critics called it "misfires"). On an unrelated note I secretly hope Shyamalan to resurrect the franchise a bit later with Spencer Treat Clark in the center, becoming either hero or villain successor (plus Taylor-Joy as well). As much as whole cast was greatly enjoyable, I was not aware that he's a great character actor himself now. As for David Dunn's arc... I was pleased. He's a bit like my favorite superheroes who faded into obscurity overtime but are remembered from time to time and acknowledged as greats. Despite some of their demises being anti-climactic... If they had any. Not all were that lucky.
It reminds me some of Logan. "Only half of it happened, and not like that.".
@mavishill The secret society isn't suppressing do-gooders. They "don't take sides" - as they stated word for word in the movie. The society just maintains order by silently ridding those that realize their powers. There is no hero or villain - both are just seen as chaos.
he did say it was an "origin" story. But I doubt he starts off more sequels because that would be too mainstream

I really enjoyed watching Elijah do his thing and prove how much of a mastermind he really is, although I do agree that David was under-utilised and under appreciated. Not that he’s always been this perfect hero but he’s obviously accepted his responsibility and is only trying to do good by others at this point so it was very conflicting to not only see him die (in the way he did) but to see the other two die as well while being treated as though they are also heroes of the story and not a mastermind terrorist and a man who has murdered women in the past and was close to succeeding in the beginning of the film. It intrigued me seeing Dennis behave so differently, so much more caring and sympathetic but I wish that idea was explained and explored more.
I’m conflicted about the ending, I appreciate Elijah’s plan and how he described it as an origin story, but with three strong characters headlining the movie I’m not sure that a secret society was necessary but maybe on a second viewing I’ll have clearer thoughts about it

So? Does it make Glass outstanding or innovative? A superhero phenomenon was already deconstructed by R. L. Stevenson and H. G. Wells in 19th century, there's nothing new and original about it.

I think we can all collectively be done with the Oscars if James McAvoy doesn’t get a nomination at the very least for his performance in Glass. He got robbed for Split so i hope they don’t do the same again.
Oscars is the worst representation of loved things by fans and the normal people. It's nearly always been politically and patriotically charged choices.

Well it's partially the studio's fault for not making any sort of Oscar campaign, you can't just expect an Oscar nomination to materialize out of nowhere. It doesn't help that this film A) came out in January and B) doesn't have a strong critical response.
He won’t get nominated. He deserves to be nominated, by all means, but the Academy voters have the memory of a goldfish. Anything that came out before September of any given year (with a few exceptions, like them trying to be “woke” and nominating Get Out for everything under the sun) has no chance of getting recognized.

from Al it seems it takes him a few minutes to recover from the near drownings. Judging by the pool scene in unbreakable, and the sprinkler scene in this one, he needs a minute to recover. He was still coughing up water from the tank when they drowned him.
He fought with the beast just a few minutes early and was taken by surprise by the "police", he though they were allies.
He's weak from having been in the tank.

But this wasn't David's story. I thought everyone got that from the names. Unbreakable: David. Split: Kevin. Glass: Elijah. They were literally about each of the three characters and how they intertwined with each other.
Also, the whole point of this movie was that it's supposed to be that little lead up to the True main character of a comic book. Usually this is a tragic thing that is the catalyst for the true protagonist/hero. This trilogy just zoomed in on that and elaborated. And we'll never see the true heroes/villains that are born after this. That's why I love this.

The idea i get : Everyone who's gifted face society trying to convince him he's not or finish him . It's about special people having continuous doubts about themselves, if only they believe in themselves although everything from the start !
I think is conects the Super Man(Comic) with Super Man(Nietzsche) concepts, the radical men vs the everyman, giving that they secret society have 3 leaf clover tattoos they represent the mob that want to inforce normality.
That was the same idea I got from the movie.
This guy gets it. the movie ending is about how the elite, society and the controled media wants you to feel like you are not special at all. when every human being is unique and special in his own way. they want you to fallow they ways and make you feel like you are nothing special. but if you think about it . we are human beings everyone has sutch a big potenical to do amazing things, but we live in a world where the opinion of others and how they feel about you is more important that your own thougs and fealings. we live in a society controled by fear. but love is the key is the most powerfull power we have. thats the message of the movie and is sad to see that just a small number of people gets it.

I am fairly certain that's how M. Night wanted you to feel. He wanted you to feel pissed about how that scene ended, but then relieved at how the twist ending concluded it all.

I'd like to see a follow up series following various superhumans around the world as they mobilise against the clover society. That, i feel, would've been a good plot for this film, Elijah discovering this society and moving against with David and the Beast as pawns.
I personally loved Glass but really respect this review! It’s refreshing to see someone talk about the film that saw Unbreakable. I am so emotional invested in all three of these characters and to see them all get snuffed was upsetting but powerful! The innocent beast and the unbreakable broken man; I was just happy to see Glass really get his moment. I loved the twist of Kevin’s dad on the train too. I would have liked to have seen more of Dunn and son searching for The Hoard and fighting crime but that’s about all I felt the film needed. James Mcavoy is incredible in this role!
