The amount of people mentioning Black Panther is unreal. He’s reviewed so many films this year and has to boil it all down to 10 of them, it’s not surprising tbh that it didn’t make it.

Upgrade is definitely in my top 10. I LOVED that movie! It was like an action movie in the style of Black Mirror, the Twilight Zone or the Outer limits.

for me, the only thing keeping it from being a perfect movie is the absence of jeremy renner's character, but that's just my opinion. still one of the best action movies ever made.
Annihilation was my personal favorite of the year. I'm completely spellbound every time I watch it (I've seen it five times now). IW was my number 2 cause of all the reasons Jeremy mentioned. I also loved Bumblebee but I'm biased cause I've wanted a really good transformers movie since I enjoyed the 07 one.

You got a point but SEARCHING I found was more effective of a suspense thriller than QUIET PLACE. Don't know, aliens didn't work for me. If you do like QUIET PLACE, you'll love 10 CLOVERFIELD LN. Similarly intense and surprisingly realistic despite the ending.
imo BlacKkKlansman was definitely my favorite movie this year, had amazing performances. It was funny at times but also delivered a message. So as someone who watches a lot of movies that was my pick. But a lot of great movies like fallout this year and some others. Haven't seen Roma or bohemian rhapsody, looking forward to those :)
I would suggest you start with A Star Is Born if you haven't seen it yet.... That was my personal favorite of the year, but much respect to Jeremy's list.

Mission: Impossible Fallout got buried in conversation, but it held its own in the box office. It was the highest earning and highest rated of the entire series and it bloody deserved it. It's one of those films that just hit the marks for the vast majority of people. There's very little divisiveness on that one and I was worried it wasn't gonna make your list. So glad to see it at #1. Fantastic action, incredibly complex subplots that I still forget are in play on my fourth watch...it's well written, well-shot, and flawlessly directed. I don't think there's a wasted frame in that movie. I would have loved it if it could have crossed a billion, but I think they'll settle for the $800m mark they hit.

For me the number one spot goes to Spider-Man into the Spiderverse and for only one reason. It creates something new, fresh and fucking awesome. I’m a huge sucker for animation and this movie legitimately just came up with a completely different and fresh, unique style of animation where every action serves the purpose to be almost reflective of a comic book. What actual geniuses. The way the change frame rates and use comic book visual techniques constantly without creating a jarring view on screen, it was if I was on ecstasy for 2 and a half straight hours. Aswell as using different art styles for different characters masterfully and having a completely new take on the Spider-Man character to date, this movie takes the cake.
Have you seen Mission Impossible? I found it more entertaining than Spiderverse and i really love Spiderverse. But Fallout has great action packed sequences that keep you on the edge of your seat along with some great visuals and beautiful shots.
I agree w the MI-6. It was great. You mentioned all the action but you didn't even mention, the emotional aspects in the film between the characters, esp. Ilsa, played by Rebecca Ferguson. She brought so much depth and character to the film. The subtlety of her acting really made the viewer (me, in this case) connect w her feelings for Ethan. And then add in the storyline of wrapping things up w Ethan's former wife. There was tremendous heart in this film brought out perfectly by some really great, great acting. cheers! p.s. my other #1 movie of the year is 'One Cut of the Dead' -a Japanese zombie film that is just a hilarious joy to watch, again with tonnes of heart! - Don't you dare leave after the first 40 mins all shot in 1 take. Yeah Black Panther didn't make it...because it was crazy overrated. And I don't necessarily hate it for being overrated, I'm not gonna claim i understand what it meant to black people or how important it was. Just analyzing it as a movie...yeah it doesn't belong in the top 10 and my top 10 was different from his, it's not in mine either.
I don't think Black Panther is overrated. Its a genuinely great movie. To much publicity MAYBE .. But in my OPINION, well worth it. It blew my mind at the theater.. Saw it on blue ray yesterday it was just great. It gets lost in translation if you missed seeing it at the movies. In conclusion Black Panther is a phenomenal movie.😉
in terms of the base film it was about as good as aquaman. the story was ok, the villain was good and the cgi was a bit meh for a marvel movie. the only reason it's rated so high is because of the backlash that anyone gets when they say something negative about it. they don't like the film and are called racist ect
I did NOT enjoy the movie as much yesterday as I did seeing it at the theater. But its a good movie, I loved M'Baku story more than T'Chala or Killmongers. Well written well executed. CGI was 7/10... I agree it was OVER PUBLICISED but not overrated...😉

no matter what you say, aquaman was never meant to be a critical masterpiece. it’s fantastical, fun, and incredible visually and has great acting from jason momoa and patrick wilson. Some crap lines but i still loved it.

Good Lord, I was very pissed off for missing MI: Fallout! Basically myself, my older sister and my cousin (who's a girl) had the option to see either Mission Impossible or Mamma Mia 2. Upgrade was awesome. Best horror film of 2018 in my opinion for sure. Searching was also really entertaining. Though I thought both were slightly overrated: Hereditary was better than A Quiet Place, in my opinion. Honestly, I think Bird Box is better than A Quiet Place, but otherwise a solid list, as always.
The CGI is the only flaw of it. Rest of it particularly the story, performances, music, cinematography, costumes and production design are a groundbreaking achievement.

Mission Impossible: Fallout got released one day after I left for a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (formerly known as Mormons) where we don’t watch movies to focus on what we’re doing. Coming home and finally seeing it, I couldn’t believe how good it was. I didn’t think they could come close to topping the last two. They’re doing such a great job with them. Mission: accomplished.
Infinity War being #5 makes perfect sense. The rating is perfectly balanced as all things should be.

A Quiet Place was my favorite by far. Haven't got that emotional at a horror/thriller movie since The Sixth Sense.

You got a point but SEARCHING I found was more effective of a suspense thriller than QUIET PLACE. Don't know, aliens didn't work for me. If you do like QUIET PLACE, you'll love 10 CLOVERFIELD LN. Similarly intense and surprisingly realistic despite the ending.

Mission: Impossible Fallout got buried in conversation, but it held its own in the box office. It was the highest earning and highest rated of the entire series and it bloody deserved it. It's one of those films that just hit the marks for the vast majority of people. There's very little divisiveness on that one and I was worried it wasn't gonna make your list. So glad to see it at #1. Fantastic action, incredibly complex subplots that I still forget are in play on my fourth watch...it's well written, well-shot, and flawlessly directed. I don't think there's a wasted frame in that movie.
I would have loved it if it could have crossed a billion, but I think they'll settle for the $800m mark they hit.

100% agree with #1. I’m impressed that they keep getting better with the MI movies.
For me the number one spot goes to Spider-Man into the Spiderverse and for only one reason. It creates something new, fresh and fucking awesome. I’m a huge sucker for animation and this movie legitimately just came up with a completely different and fresh, unique style of animation where every action serves the purpose to be almost reflective of a comic book. What actual geniuses. The way the change frame rates and use comic book visual techniques constantly without creating a jarring view on screen, it was if I was on ecstasy for 2 and a half straight hours. Aswell as using different art styles for different characters masterfully and having a completely new take on the Spider-Man character to date, this movie takes the cake.
I totally fucking agree dude it's my favorite movie of all time.
Definitely one of the top three best movies of 2018 in my book too.
Have you seen Mission Impossible? I found it more entertaining than Spiderverse and i really love Spiderverse. But Fallout has great action packed sequences that keep you on the edge of your seat along with some great visuals and beautiful shots.

I agree w the MI-6. It was great. You mentioned all the action but you didn't even mention, the emotional aspects in the film between the characters, esp. Ilsa, played by Rebecca Ferguson. She brought so much depth and character to the film. The subtlety of her acting really made the viewer (me, in this case) connect w her feelings for Ethan. And then add in the storyline of wrapping things up w Ethan's former wife. There was tremendous heart in this film brought out perfectly by some really great, great acting. cheers!
p.s. my other #1 movie of the year is 'One Cut of the Dead' -a Japanese zombie film that is just a hilarious joy to watch, again with tonnes of heart! - Don't you dare leave after the first 40 mins all shot in 1 take. If u can ask your local film festival theatre to get it - make them get it!!! 100% man.. look it up! Peace

Yeah Black Panther didn't make it...because it was crazy overrated. And I don't necessarily hate it for being overrated, I'm not gonna claim i understand what it meant to black people or how important it was. Just analyzing it as a movie...yeah it doesn't belong in the top 10 and my top 10 was different from his, it's not in mine either.

I don't think Black Panther is overrated. Its a genuinely great movie. To much publicity MAYBE .. But in my OPINION, well worth it. It blew my mind at the theater.. Saw it on blue ray yesterday it was just great. It gets lost in translation if you missed seeing it at the movies. In conclusion Black Panther is a phenomenal movie.😉
in terms of the base film it was about as good as aquaman. the story was ok, the villain was good and the cgi was a bit meh for a marvel movie. the only reason it's rated so high is because of the backlash that anyone gets when they say something negative about it. they don't like the film and are called racist ect
I did NOT enjoy the movie as much yesterday as I did seeing it at the theater. But its a good movie, I loved M'Baku story more than T'Chala or Killmongers. Well written well executed. CGI was 7/10... I agree it was OVER PUBLICISED but not overrated...😉

I've been a Transformers fan since I was little, I'm damn near 40. And as a DieHard Transformers fan, I have to say that the Bumblebee movie was one of the greatest things I've ever seen. It's good to know they still remember us old fans. My 2018 favorite

no matter what you say, aquaman was never meant to be a critical masterpiece. it’s fantastical, fun, and incredible visually and has great acting from jason momoa and patrick wilson. Some crap lines but i still loved it.

Good Lord, I was very pissed off for missing MI: Fallout!
Basically myself, my older sister and my cousin (who's a girl) had the option to see either Mission Impossible or Mamma Mia 2. Of course I was outnumbered as they loved the original. So I had to sit through a god-awful musical instead of an action masterpiece!!!
And yeah, I did try to see it on my own, but I couldn't!
Mission Impossible Fallout was technically stunning. But all the relationship stuff in there seemed laughably fake.
Mission impossible fallout was certainly badass, not a surprise to see it as #1.

Annihilation left the biggest impact in my mind - other than infinity wars for obvious reasons. In terms of technical fun i really liked Upgrade.

Coming home and finally seeing it, I couldn’t believe how good it was. I didn’t think they could come close to topping the last two. They’re doing such a great job with them. Mission: accomplished.
