  • I have a love for the entertainingly cheesy. This includes video games. Especially this cult classic that was wrongfully annexed into the great "violent video games" debate of the early 90's. Here are my thoughts of the infamous video game NIGHT TRAP!

[Coury] Hey Jeremy, thanks for sharing our Night Trap documentary! It was such a cool thing to be able to make. When the game came out originally, I was 13 years old which was probably the perfect age to play it. It was surreal to be able to meet some of the people responsible for making it, and actually be a part of the new release. Teenage me would never believe it!
Sure, this game has a reputation for being bad... but I love it. It was important to for me to treat it with respect and appreciation in the documentary because it did a lot of interesting stuff for the time.

I never got it or played, but then, even in high school, I couldn't justify spending any of my after school job money on a Sega CD (just, why?). Luckily I had a friend that bought every console, dude even had a 3DO! Cat confirmed that I'd be better off buying a few regular Genesis games than that add-on and he singlehandedly quashed every rumor and speculation we heard about Night Trap one day at lunch. We heard everything from you play a serial killer that kills hookers, to you being a co-ed that escapes an assault and hunts down the attackers with a .45 and, like Robocop, when you find the leader, you can shoot him in the dick! Sadly, our friend could only express disappointment. Nothing remotely like that took place in the game. Talk about lowered expectations. I mean, his, not ours.

It's believed that the demo of Doom got installed on more computers than Microsoft's Windows 95. Doom 1993 even became a part of Microsoft's marketing stategi. Since it now seamed impossible to censer Doom, they just gave up and moved on.

Using that sound effect to close out the review - inspired.
SEVEN versions of the same game, including physical AND digital copies of the same game, and even a Japanese version. Wow, Jeremy, you must love that game. Outside of freebies and stuff like Nintendo Switch Online, I don't think there's a single game I own half as many copies of.
BUT I do understand your love for this weird immersive horror/parody game set in a large house....because I grew up playing Maniac Mansion. I have fond memories of that game. And that's a big part of why I loved Thumbleweed Park so much. Nostalgia is indeed a powerful thing.
And the best part about Maniac Mansion is it has dozens of fan sequels to satisfy that itch.
Ooh, speaking of which - Hey Jeremy, far be it for me to tell you what to review, I'm sure you've got plenty of stuff on the docket, but now that you've got time....what about the remaining Telltale Games?! That would be a great thing to review. There's a lot of Walking Dead you didn't review (that's also true of the tv show come to think of it)

@@christopherlowery3797 You're not wrong. As he said in one of his Joker videos, "It sounds like a zombie show that went on a few seasons longer than it should." All I was saying (where the show was concerned) was that he hadn't reviewed a lot of it. The part before that, if it wasn't clear, was my referring to the Telltale Games Walking Dead series.

i've never played this game, but i am glad it exists. Also i really enjoyed this video, whenever i get to listen to someone just share their fond memories of video games like this it always makes me smile and cheer me up. Here's one from me - in the iron Man game for xbox 360 there's a lengthy mission where you have to save Pepper and prevent the facility she's inside from being blown up buy tons of tanks and missiles, this mission was so challenging i decided to draw a complete map of the area, highlighting the most dangerous sections and what type of enemies frequent them, what angles the missiles tend to give me the most trouble reaching in time - so i also included time estimates depending on my usual locations and safest pathways, and recommend arsenals for different approaches. That was fun^^

I just bought this game a few days ago on sale for my switch I tried playing it normally without a guide. I was so utterly confused I kept failing because I was getting sucked into the cheesy 90s slasher movie that it is. Eventually i gave up looked up a guide wrote every single time so I could do a perfect run I've never been more determined to beat a game just so I could watch the full movie it took a few tries but I finally beat it. Anyway great timing for this review keep up the great work stay safe love you and anybody else reading this and remember WATCH OUT BEHIND YOU NIGHT TRAP.

There's something oddly immersive and re-playable about it. A truly interactive movie. It's a shame there wasn't a Night Trap 2 or other FMV games that were as good as Night Trap.

There was once a play in Hollywood called "Tamara." It took place in a American Legion hall that seems like it started its life as a 1920's mansion.
You go in there and are introduced to the cast in the meeting room and then you choose who you want to follow and everyone splits up and gets a different perspective of the play. It was bitchin! (yes, I'm from the 1970's).
The cast goes about their business in the mansion and ignores the masses of people following them around. Your video made me think of it.
At one point, I got separate from my group and I ended up alone in a room with a crazy maid on her knees at her bed, pounding a cross between her head and the bed, praying for forgiveness.
It was amazing. Like being a ghost.

I have an obsession with Night Trap as well. In regards to the ESRB 3 games started it:
    -Mortal Kombat
    -Night Trap
    -Lethal Enforcers
If you thought the congress hearing was bad about MK and NT, you should hear them talk about Lethel Enforcers. They sayd the idea is to kill innocent people in the game and that It's BAD! Even tho you get punished for doing so. You can watch the whole congress hearing on the website just look it up. It's quite hilarious. Especially the fights between the President of Nintendo and Sega throwing mud at each other lol.

The game was actually a part of the so-called surveillance video game genre, a subgenre of FMV games in the early and mid 90s. Other more or less popular titles included Voyeur 1 (you're looking for proof that a senator is corrupt by surveilling the windows of the building he and his friends and foes are, and no there's no nudity) and Voyeur 2 (you're spying a house of secrets populated by people who may have killed their patriarch, and it's basically a very soft erotic thriller with a bit nudity) as well as Corey Haim's Double Switch (same as Night Trap but it's a caper).
