I just like to mention the shot McQueen chooses when Mulligan leaves that commission of women's business. He shots the front size of the car subtle leaning to the left (with sound of the Mulligan talking in the interior), showing us just the poor houses blocks and before Mulligan arrives at his house, the shot leans to the right showing a "better" sight of the city. That is an original way to show contrast in Chicago

Widows was snubbed so hard at the Oscars and deserved much more attention than fucking Black Panther for handling the same subject matter much better.

Thank you for this video. I really loved this movie. I think many people was victim of a bad advertising campaing for the movie because is a really different movie which is portrayed in the trailer. The trailer is selling you a heist film which is not. You're right on approaching the video to the "Contrast" of the film because one main themes depicted is the disparity in society and how it deals with intersectionality between the characters and how complex to solve are political and social issues. I think if missed the chance of describing the contrast and disparity in the film with the sequence of Mulligan getting in his car after the rally and having a discussion with his assistant on how things must be done by preserving the old ways while the camera shows the poor side of the city and starts to panning in a single shot finishing the sequence with Mulligan arrriving to his house in the rich side of the city. This sequence is showing us how social stratification works and that people are part of a same organishm that is the city.

This movie should have been nominated for 10+ Oscars but got absolutely nothing... I don’t understand. Best Director, Cinematography, Editing, Screenplay, etc... not to mention one of the best casts of the decade

This movie doesnt deserve jack shit. Most disappointing movie of the year. Below average at best, and academy awards usually do admire shit so I don't know why they skipped this piece of shit.

I think this movie was mis-marketed. If you go into this movie expecting an action heist film, you will be very disappointed. It should have been marketed as a dark drama. It's almost the film equivalent of a dirge. I thought it was very good. Not excellent. It has flaws. But it's very good as a dark drama

Great video! I really enjoyed WIDOWS, my only issue was some moments didn't necessarily feel earned mainly to do with character relationships but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. Highpoint was Daniel Kaluuya scenes some my favourite scenes from last year!

One of the best films of the year ,yet it was overlooked for the Oscars .
Oscars is slowly becoming irrelevant,if they only select lily garden variety cookie cutter films like black panther, green book,a star is born, bohemian rhapsody.

As someone who was incredibly hyped to see Widows and is a huge fan of Steve McQueen (12 years a slave, Shame, and Hunger were all some of my favorite films of that year), I was really disappointed by this film. For me, this film was trying really hard to be the next Heat, but it didn't really have the grit, intenseness, and star power that Heat had. While Viola Davis and Daniel Kaluuya gave excellent performances and should have been nominated, I thought everything else about this film was kinda sub-par. The rest of the acting was kind of flat for me, the pacing of this film was incredibly slow (and this is someone who likes slow films), the last 30 minutes was incredibly rushed and didn't really make a whole lot of sense, logic was thrown out the window every now and then, and the Liam Neeson twist was just a bunch of nonsense. I know I'm probably in the minority for this film, but I guess I just had high expectations for this film. This definitely wasn't a bad film, but I just expected so much more.

You definitely didn't watch the film correctly. This is not a heist or crime film, it's a drama with some hints of heist and crime. The film gravitates more on political and social issues.

    • @untitled8005
      @untitled8005 5 років тому +3

Antonio Foglia Just because it has a social or political aspects to it, doesn't mean it's not a heist film. Its a heist film by definition, starts with a heist, builds up the entire fucking time for the final heist and it ends on it. So, then again, how is this not a heist film.

Liam Nesson's character was pretty unbelievable... and not in a good way. I get that he was hurting from losing his son, but this movie does not establish much in regard to his character so all the twists with him do not seem earned. If he had just had the affair with the friend's wife and still died it would have made more sense, but him showing up at the end slapping the wife and getting ready to rob and kill her just seemed especially cold. Other than that I thought the movie was pretty good, the commentary was great as it was shown in the setting rather than the dialogue. And did anyone else think Daniel Kaluuya's character was gonna survive that accident? Been watching too many marvel/fast and the furious movies lol.

This film, just like many, is far better than Heat. Heat is a bloated, overrated heap of trash. one of michael manns worst films, and hes done a couple of duds as is, although collateral is still one of my favorite films.

So many talented actors, a great director, good craft and premise. All wasted on a bad script with dumb twists, half baked politics, themes and ideas and very little characterization

There was not enough of the widows and WAY TOO MUCH of everybody else! No struggle for the wives to do a heist they have no experience in. Too much screen time of the politicians and the wife dating that rich guy to supplement her money. The side story of their son being killed was out of place an inconsequential. It wasn't a tight script and why it was an hour too long. It's not a bad thing it was overlooked.

Fell just short for me. I loved so much of it but Robert Duvall's character was comically out of place and I never for a second believed Neeson would go as far as to try and kill his wife. Everything else about his initial betrayal made total sense but that last twist of him trying to kill her for the money was just stupid and really brought it down. Kill his heist buddies? Maybe, I could accept that, but not kill her. It was unearned. And it needed a little more of a conclusion. It was a little abrupt and I found it odd how Jamal isn't even seen again after the first half even though he's the "main" villain. So close to being great but just fell short for me.

Widows was subpar filmmaking. Viola Davis' character was flat and there was not enough relationship building between her and the other widows. The reveal that Liam Neeson's character was still alive was not difficult to discern prior to the reveal.
But hey, at least McQueen was able to force an unnecessary police shooting narrative into the flic.

It was the most disappointing movie of the year. I loved 12 YAS, but this movie was boring, there is no characters except Alice and Mulligans. Most exciting part of the movie was politics. And there was zero chemistry between viola and Liam, and between widows. Viola's "character" was boring and didn't have any motivation at all.

I loved the movie up until the last act. The last 30 min of the movie are so ridiculous and unrealistic with almost no consequences that it really dragged the movie down for me
