Blogilates' 90 Day Journey Was a SCAM?!

  • Blogilates (Cassey Ho) has recently finished her 90 day journey, but many have questioned whether this journey was merely a means of marketing her new line of supplements. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to delve into the realm of supplement basics, highlighting what might be worth considering and what might be a waste of money.
I accidentally cut the parts discussing what Creatine and EAAs actually are/what they do, so I have included some useful links below:
    What does Creatine do?: www.webmd.com/men/creatine#:~....
What are Essential Amino Acids (EAAs)?: www.healthline.com/nutrition/...
I decided to keep this video quite simple to test the waters but I can certainly go into greater detail in a future video if you would like a more thorough supplement analysis!
Let me know your thoughts below :)

There is nothing wrong with infliencers selling supplements as long as they are honest. Meg Squats has a supplement company and she has been open about how you don't Need any of the things she is selling. Buff Chick is the only influencer supplement company I'll support if I ever have enough money to buy anything other than cheap bulk protein.
Secondly "I am bloated" has become a socially acceptable way to say "I feel fat." People are made to believe that their stomach isn't completely flat because of bloating. It annoys me because the focus is still on having a flat stomach. One doesn't NEED to have a flat stomach to live a healthy and happy life. As someone who has several food intolerance, I know bloating sucks. It's uncomfortable and painful but people monetizing bloating and selling people this dream that if you get rid of bloating, you will have a flat stomach is predatory.

As a Pharmacy worker, so sort of qualified to talk about it but not really at the same time, Probiotics are great*
*if you have just had a course of antibiotics, take long term steroids, or any medication which may affect your stomach or bowels.
If you are a normally healthy person with no underlying condition you don't need probiotics. This is because your "gut" is an ecosystem, it works on its own (similarly to how your liver and kidneys work on their own and you don't need to detox) So imagine for a second, you have a thriving town of perfectly happy gut bacteria, then in comes an army of bacteria that doesn't really belong in the gut, but it can hang around a short while, your own gut bacteria now have to compete with the new army for food. Your gut bacteria starts dying off, oh but the new army can only live for a short while because it doesn't belong in the body and gets killed off... so now you have less than when you started?
The best way to increase your gut health is not by just adding more useless bacteria, its feeding and supporting the town that already lives there, eating fermented things and whole foods, and not living off bread.
Also in case you were wondering, Probiotics help in medical situations like after antibiotics because they can help take pressure off the damaged gut bacteria while its growing back.

I will add to this, my doctor said taking a probiotic daily - doesn't have to be fancy or expensive - is a great preventative habit for women (even if they are otherwise healthy) because they make probiotics formulated to help keep things above board if you're easily prone to infections!

    • @threnoidia
      @threnoidia 2 роки тому +6

I agree with this! I think since he's talking about physique building for an already healthy person so the probiotics are a bit unnecessary. But I find probiotics and BCAAS (mine contains L-Glutamine) helpful, since I have gut issues 🤪 Naturally occurring proteins, probiotics, and prebiotics like you mentioned are probably the best choice for most though!

I think my biggest issue is people creating “problems” in the supplement industry just so they can sell you a solution lol. I fell for that so much before I knew any better. Bloated? Your body is broken and needs detox tea (now I’m seeing people promote greens powders for the same thing 🤦🏼‍♀️). Want more booty gains? You’re missing out if you don’t have your BCAA’s! When most of the time the “issue” can be helped by changing your workout program, diet, sleep/recovery, etc. Supplements are not band-aid fixes for these things haha.

Love this. And it extends to other vitamin supplements - I took B12 to help my energy because my diet is atrocious and I thought it couldn’t hurt to add some supplements...and then my bloodwork showed I had an excessively high B12 level. There are vitamins you can actually hurt yourself with if they exceed your needs - vitamin a, for example, can be taken for people with vision issues...but it can actually DAMAGE your vision if you don’t need it and take too much. Be careful! Supplements are generally garbage.

That being said, I do appreciate that, when he announced releasing it, he was honest with the science not quite being there. At first when he started selling his supplements, he was pretty good about clarifying that they aren’t necessary, but I’m not sure if he’s still as consistent with that message the more he’s putting out (especially skeptical of the fact that he has a fat burner).

I’ve read a lot of research on protein and the only things I’ve consistently found is that for someone resistance training 0.8-1gm of protein per body weight but also nutrition labels are up to 20% inaccurate so if you’re shooting for only 0.8gm you may only be getting 0.64. So if you shoot for 1gm per # you should be getting at least .8gm per pound.

i've seen the psychology of supplements play out before me many times. one example is a friend of mine who's been overweight for a long chain of years now. every 5 months or so he gets that "thrill" of motivation, buys all the supplements under the sun, and then sticks to his resolutions for about 2 days. I think that, for many people, getting them feels like they are getting closer to their goals - they don't view them as additions and final details of training, but some sort of necessary foundation.

youre the one youtuber who i enjoy watching that actually sticks to a set of morals similar to mine. Greg really got me into fitness, i thought of him as very transparent and honest as he always called out misinformation. Nowadays it feels like hes pushing his brand. I think hes genuinely quite a decent person. Buisness and marketing is what it is i guess, gotta sell the product somehow. ill usually just watch his videos as entertainment, even though he does support his claims with studies i just feel someone like you is more straight up and honest. Health and fitness doesnt have to be this complicated, as someone who has always been a healthy weight with a goal to gain muscle, get stronger and feel better, the formula is: weight train with progressive overload with a split i like, high protein diet (i aim for 1g/lbs), eat foods that make my body feel good. Ive watched so many fitness videos over the years, started with 10 minute abs, slowly found weight training and protein shakes which made the biggest difference. Theres a lot i dont know but i confidently say that im working with more than enough knowledge and that results will come with time and consistency. Will always appreciate channels like yours that keep things simple, clear yet informative and fun. Cheers mate.

My dad used t work with clients like Cassey HO. so i know so much about the scam how much Cassey is sicko when she claim"I design". when she just copys existing designs on d internet. My dad used to turn down bribes, n told me he'd NEVER steal/poach his coworkers' clients. However, some of sketchy co workers would work like Cassey Ho. it makes me feel sick that she is using her brand to Fake her "competence " of designing. Probiotics often don’t work because most of them die before they’ve even reached your gut (or rather we don’t know how much actually stay alive). It’s better to eat foods that promote and repopulate the gut with healthy bacteria such as sauerkraut, kimchi etc. Some people bloat for many reasons but one maybe because they have undiagnosed gut issues and taking supplements without knowing your issue first can only worsen the situation. It’s good to do your own research first before taking supplements for gut health, it’s much better to analyse your diet first to see what is causing the bloating and whether you’re intolerant to something. Great video as always ⭐️

Thankfully I am usually able to hit my protein intake with food alone, and I cannot stand drinking protein shakes. I used to think I needed it but I could never finish a drink 😂 I do eat a protein bar daily as a snack but I go for one that’s low in sugar and made with mostly whole ingredients.

  • @marieofstad6984
    @marieofstad6984 2 роки тому

For the question about whether you can get a faster muscle gain from protein powder or protein-rich food: I do not actually know the answer to this! But I was just thinking that if you're able to get enough protein (and enough of all the amino acids) from whole foods, then maybe that could better for muscle growth!
Whole foods have a lot of components we don't even know about, that when absorbed into our bodies potentially could interact with the proteins in a beneficial way, or maybe even promote muscle growth in some other way. Whereas protein powders won't have that complexity, of all the beneficial nutrients and components that exists in whole foods.
Whole foods would also give you all the other nutrients necessary for good health, and if your health is good overall, then that will also be a contributing factor into being able to grow muscles more optimally.
Therefore, I think whole foods could potentially come out as the winner.
I'm saying whole foods specifically, as heavily processed foods would fall into the same category as a protein powder - lacking nature's complexity :)

I don't trust anyone who puts a short time line for reaching some sort of goal. It's always ridiculous and not sustainable. Bloating can be from so many different things. I only use protein powder to help reach my protein intake goals.

  • @MrBeetlejuice16

"De-bloating" has kinda become the fitness indistry's new buzz word for "fat-loss". Promoting fat loss have become associated with diet culture, and so when promoting products that supposedly can help you lose fat they supstitute it with "de-bloating". Blogilates has used this strategically for years, claiming that she gets bloated from eating carbs, made a workout where she made a storyline that she overate at a buffet and got so bloated she could only go and do pilates to save herself. Heck, she even used it as a reason for doing the juicing cleanse for 3 days, where she basically complained that she ate so much during a holiday trip to Hawaii that she felt pregnant. (Love that little fat shaming of pregnant women there too) She knows that she would be called out for promoting juice cleanses to lose fat, so she says bloated instead because that is more palatable. As soon as I saw that on her product, I knew for a fact that I wouldn't want to buy it.

Bloating - a surface symptom can be caused by a multitude of things including GI disorders, coeliac, IBS , lactose, dairy, Fodmap IBSD etc.., .

yeah i wish i could say the same thing. her Protein powder is The Protein alternative (made of soy beans). often ppl have Dietary issues use that as LAST choice. Just like how if u have baby, the mom somehow cant produce human MILK, the baby have t go to MILK formular, UNLESS the baby is allergic to cow milk, soy infant formula is last choice.
for Cow milk Protein there is the normal protein, and Whey Isolate(Premium Protein). Whey Isolate is 99% absorption. the regular High quality protein is 60% absorption. All of that above are better n MORE EXPENSIVe than Soy vegan protein for someone want to build muscle .
For her in sports industry, been using that stuff for decade, first thing she promote is LOWEST price protein selling as if its FIRST choice to ppl know NOTHING about Protein powder. The stuff she "create" are like used as Alternative if u r allergic to milk. for someone can Avertly do that, is such scam.

loved the video, very informative! I have a question I need an answer for... potential TW for mention of calories and that nature.
to what extent does resistance training (weight lifting to failure etc, hypertrophy training) and a high protein diet offset muscle loss in a caloric deficit?
I've been reading some studies and what not on the subject, but everything seems to conflicting. I'm currently in about a 1,000kcal daily deficit (I have a high-ish TDEE), and people have said that's too high and i will inevitablly lose muscle, but my protein intake is very high and my lifts aren't regressing at all, so I'm wondering if it's even a problem so long I keep progressive overloading and what not? would love your insight on this!

in College, when we take nutrition course, our profesor (in toronto ) tell us those programs will inevitably ruin you cuz u will end up getting fat. i sit there listening feeling uneasy cuz every time our Professor talking about each type of training,,,n DEBUNKIGN each one of it. i felt like she was talking about me. n i had nothing else to go on . it deficit was d only thing ever worked.
Took me 8 yrs before i gave up trying to prove her wrong lol... EVERY each of her "truth", turned out to be right.
my husband,,who has been working out since 16, never believed me, i dont blame him. I took the damn course in college (in person class). I didnt even believe myself even tho i had to do research n make meal plan for 20 something athletes etc as projects. its ridiculous. cuz I know what professor taught us is True.
PS...its mentioned, that Professional Athelete, celebrity,influencers...they have chef. team nutrition ppl support their diet. Their food n training are NOT mean to be sustainable. So 90% of times they look so healthy n fit cuz the food, but they will present on the TV or show "i train so hard". its food food food.
My husband was training like crazy. he had Marvel super hero shape...now he goes to gym but he is not obcessed with shape, he just eats till he's full. intuitive eating. U need to make balanced meals: 40-50% carb, 30% protein, 10% fat, 20% vege to start, so body used to eat certain meals to releave the craving. then alter into 30% carb,,more protein, more vege..slowly. when going cold turkey. Brain will wire the food as "Punishment" vs " reward", the first 2 weeks u need to make balanced diet but more "less overly healthy". then slowly switch to more healthy. first 4 weeks expect 2-3 lb weight gain... then fallowing months, u will stop gaining, then next 4-8 months, ud eat more than ever but keep loosing weight, n retain muscles. while having protein powder of course.
it worked 100% on my husband, he had been remaining same shape for 8 yrs. Magical. like u are 100% free from food. suggest u take a Nutrition course. i have been raving over it to all my friends n family. i see them struggle so hard, hurts. 1 gf goes to weight lifting for 4 yrs, now she has baby cant even go. i just want them to feel free not controlled by the gym n worry "going back".

Carrots 🥕 r 3X more absorbed cooked than raw ! A lot of raw vege r toxic without being cooked . Like green bean etc . Almonds r toxic without fully cooked(that’s why ppl try to bake their own almonds “so much fresher “ might triger kids nut/seeds allergy, store bought ones r safer ) …. I have fibromyalgia, CPTSD, and depression. My workouts have been suffering lately because the symptoms have worsened. Will I still build muscle if I dial back the volume and intensity? I feel so broken and depleted but I want to keep building. Stopping just sounds like I'm giving up. Is 2 or 3 days a week enough? (That's after years of 4 to 5 days a week of lifting for powerbuilding)

Hello, I’m also dealing with cptsd and manic depression. I do 3 days calisthenics, one Full body workout, one day for arms and cardio, and the other day legs and yoga. I’m slowly adding in a day for abs. All workouts last 30-45min.
Take it slow and work on your mental state more than your body for right now. It worked for me, hopefully it does for you too!!

Building muscle while dialing down both volume and intensity isn’t going to be optimal, but you can certainly maintain muscle more easily than I think you’d expect. If 2-3 days of training is what you can manage right now, that’s still amazing, even though it’s an adjustment training less than what you’re used to. Scaling back on training temporarily doesn’t mean you’ll never reach your goals, remember it’s not a race, and prioritizing your mental health and what your body is able to achieve in this moment is just as important as training and definitely hard to recognize ❤️

I am currently struggling with some health problems as well. I cut back from a bodybuilder split to just doing 3 full body days per week. It’s hard to make adjustments but it’s possible, you just have to figure out what works for you. Good luck ♥️

I bought a pre workout supplement a couple years ago and I was shocked at how high the caffeine dose was. I think it was equivalent to 2 cups of strong coffee. To take such a high dose just for the sake of your workout seems a bit much. If you already had a coffee in the morning, maybe a matcha at noon and then decided to take the supplement before your workout...boy, 1. you're probably not sleeping that night and 2. the recommended daily intake is easily surpassed. You have to be very careful here

CQOTW: if I’ve been cutting and added cardio into my plan how do I come out of this stage back into maintenance (reducing the cardio as well as increasing calories back) without gaining weight back
    Thanks in advance 👍🏽🙌🏽

    • @melissathelioma2890
      @melissathelioma2890 2 роки тому +14

You’re likely going to gain a small amount of weight back transitioning into maintenance again. I kept my cardio the same for a few extra months because I enjoyed walking the local trails since the weather was nice at the time, and I slowly added more calories before scaling back on walking when winter weather hit. Overall, I’d say my average weight is maybe 1-2lbs higher than my average at the end of my cut.

reverse dieting maybe? add extra 100 calories every 2 weeks or so to allow your body to adjust until you hit maintenance

Reverse diet for sure. If you are trying to avoid much weight gain at all you must go VERY slowly, especially if you've been cutting for a long time. There's tons of UA-cam videos on reverse dieting, I would recommend watching quiet a few and taking bits from them all to form your own opinion and own plan for yourself! :)

I'd love to hear your thoughts about wrist supports. Long I thought they where a scheme (unless you're competing) cause I thought it's good to train that hand grip. But lately I've been trying to look into it cause I struggle with press movements (chest press/flyes, tricep press etc) I get real bad hand cramps. But when I read about them the emphasis is always on the pulling movements such as deadlifts. And I don't know what I should get, if anything?

I use wrist straps for pulling and wrist wraps for pressing :)

I for my life swear by this. I used to have knee in jury from falling on ice. being young n in my "push thru" days, training jogging, giong for half marathon, 10 k...just jumping around. I had VERy SEVER KNEE issue. one point i cant even walk. i was limping n depressed feeling like oldie, tried all sorts of braces, from cheap to expensive. My (then bf) took me to the Big Sports store, they only had the VERy expensive, some Japanese one--- Zamst, they said I could try it on. I put it on within 30 seconds i was a normal person no pain nothing. walking normal. like after 3 yrs nothing ever helped.
Their products super ugly, but Japanese ppl do things well. it has like typical boring look black thing. but has diff layers, like a VERY strong nylon mesh, then some diff layer on top. IT kept joints secure but not cut off movements. its Sweet balance. i cant explain. like other products i have tried, either too tight, or too lose, or some parts r loose n tight on one spot feel like cutting off blood circle. This brand their stuff is Firm, but comfortable n free move. They sell out quick tho each year. Suggest u try it out get something from Amazon, return it if dont fit. it was strangest thing for me to this day. i had been limping for years , i walked out of store normal lol .

The evidence around probiotics and gut health is mixed, as it tends to be from poor quality studies. Also, most studies focus on people with clinically recognised symptoms (IBS or similar), not general support of gut health.
Purely anecdotally, I used high dose probiotics for a short period of time with my IBS (1 month) and I did see a really big improvement in my symptoms. Now it only gets bothered by specific triggers (fructose, sweeteners).
This was in line with a study at the time, can't find it now (if I do, I will edit the comment). I've never needed to take them again - possibly because it helped to reach gut microbiome balance after a course of antibiotics.
