  • Fitness TikTok has been the cause of a lot of problems online, from misinformation to fake natty creators. With the likes of Blogilates, Liver King, and many other creators booming on the platform and arguably contributing to the problem, I figured I should probably give my take on the whole situation.

    I know people credit blogilates for getting people into fitness but it feels like she’s constantly in these and other videos about misinformation from fitness influencers. Any credit she earned earlier in her career has completely gone down the tubes imo

      She started posting follow-along, no-equipment, short workout videos on UA-cam when very, VERY few people were. She is cutesy and projects an extremely bubbly, positive, "you go, girl!" personality, plus really clickbait-y titles (á la that Chloe (?) Ting girl, not sure about her name). All that is what made her popular among the earlier YT crowd, not any sort of real fitness expertise. Now that real information is more easily accessible, many of her followers (who, let us not forget, are now possibly as much as a decade older) are realizing that hers is BS. Which I am quite convinced is why she left YT, even though she has millions of subscribers. The TikTok crowd is extremely young, so they are easier to reel in.

      @kristoferpaunonen9650 2 роки тому +10

      It was kind of sad to see young women on Blogilates' video about a short "weightless arm workout" being like "how long until you see results?" You will pretty much never get results from "workouts" like that

      @@peanutforever2191 You are 100% right. I was an OG follower of hers from 2009 and the cutesy bubbly thing was fun in my 20s but now in my 30s, I just can't. Not only has her content not matured at all, it has devolved in quality of information and quality of workouts. She has painted herself into a corner a bit because soon she will be too old for the TikTok crowd and she will have lost her older followers. Such a shame.

    Not only is the first girl doing a free weight movement on a bosu ball; she’s doing it on the platform. This is a huge trend in online fitness and it literally says on the packaging of all bosu balls to NOT. STAND. ON. THE PLAFORM SIDE. It’s a safety issue.

    I used to workout to change my body, I now workout because it helps me to keep my mental health stable (I have 3 MH diagnoses), and encourages a healthy structure around work, a masters degree, and time for myself. It’s so frustrating to see so many fitness creators making content that only tailors to the goal of aesthetics, when not everyone has that goal

    The portion around 7:30 where you kept saying that you are enough almost made me cry in a good way 😭 I feel like so much of what we see in media claims to be inspirational, but in the end, what it can often do is just make us feel terrible about ourselves. I've been working out hard for years and have been feeling discouraged recently that I still don't have the "perfect body," but I'm working on appreciating my healthy self as I am. Thank you for being so real and encouraging!!!

    On a different note, it is so shocking to see that people start using PEDs at such a young age (looking at the "sarmsgirl"). How do their parents / care takers let them do this? Thanks for your input on this topic, I really hope your message will get teenagers to rethink their decisions.

    I am having issues hitting depth in my squat, turns out its not my ankles which i thought, or the external rotation of my hips, its the internal rotation of my hips! Have issues internally rotating so my adductors aren't mobile so my lower back is stiff so my squat isnt to depth. So if you think you might have mobility issues, try your adductors too cause it could very well be an issue higher up.
    Edit: also it could be you're trying to squat in a textbook way that's not fit for your body composition. My "normal" squat looks like a sumo squat because of my long legs and tiny torso. Also my hip joints. If i go on my toes, i can hit a full depth ski squat with my feet together and no issues - so yeah it seems like my ankles are the issue, but as soon as i go to shoulder width and my feet planted i cant get close to 90degrees. Basically, to circle back, lifting your heels could be a bandaid for weak mobility. I am learning this the hard way 🥵 Squat University has a great video on finding your squat and hip joint positioning. Goodluck!

    Hi! As someone who is new to lifting, I have a few questions. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out :) My legs build muscle much easier than my arms, which makes progressively overloading much easier on the legs than the arm. How do I make sure I stay in balance, so that my legs don't look much more muscular than my arms? Should I train my legs less often, for example?
    I also have the feeling that I find it more difficult to really train my arms to fatigue. After a while my arms just stop without me feeling that the muscle itself really can't do the movement anymore. In my legs I can feel muscle acidification etc and it hurts (in a good way!) but my arms seem to stop by themselves; how is that possible?? I also want to thank you for your informative videos, they really help me out a lot! :)

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  2 роки тому +6

      Legs will likely always be stronger/bigger, look at the anatomy of the muscles and it'll make more sense :) Prioritise the muscles you want to build most and then go from there (i.e., increase frequency, etc). When you feel you aren't able to move anymore, at the end of each set try adding 3 partial reps to help push those muscles a little beyond failure :) Thank you so much

I’ve been feeling lightheaded and dizzy for 2-3 hours now before it got better. Do you think that could’ve happened from overexertion? Or from creatine? Has anyone had any bad reactions to natural/tested supplements? I take beta alanine (since months now) with no bad reactions except some tingling. I take some BCAA and recently added creatine before and after workouts and I’ve been taking for 8 days. I’ve never felt so dizzy in my life-I’m REALLY hoping it’s something else (since I get migraines I’m hoping it’s a silent migraine) but had to ask-in case others had a creatine=dizzy reaction. I'm a forensic toxicologist, used to be a pharmacologist in a clinical pharmacology lab. There's a reason why PEDs are banned substances in sports. Besides being performance enhancing, it is to hopefully deter people from using them. The side effects are worse for females than males because it harms our reproductive system which might lead to infertility and loss of menstruations. It's just not natural at all for women to take anabolics, our hormones are far more complicated than in men. As for men, the worse are Trenbolone and Boldenone. Do you know they are originally used as PEDs for race horses? It's 4 times more potent than testosterone and why? Because horses are 500kg. Imagine a human taking them. The side effects? 4 times stronger. Anyone who works in healthcare will know not to take them because we learn human physiology. So I really can't imagine people who have no knowledge in biology risking it. And the side effects do not always present themselves in short term, it may present itself when you are older.
    By it's always people's choice, just have to learn to deal with the consequences. It's like playing Russian roulette.

    Obviously I’m hammering the bicepcurls at the gym (😅😎😰🤮) but as a female powelifter/powerbuilder I tend to be affected by society… I just want to share som light on a few things many might not think about when seeing this supinated push up. (I only speak on my experience and females I know. This might/will not be true for all women but it might for some… Just my experiences that are hard to phrase right in a YT-comment)
    1. Many girls does not want big biceps, therefore dont want to push the bicepwork. For me it makes sence to not work hard on progressive overload during bicepwork if you don’t want big biceps. This might lead to not working the biceps at all…
    2. I have met girls (not all girls obviously!) who absolutely hate bicepcurls. For multiple reasons. One that I relate to is that females stores more fat in their upper arms than males typically do which makes bicepwork kind of ”useless”. Muscledefinition is not as crisp on girls and because of that our arms may just look big whithout one knowing if its just fat or muscle+fat. Something that might trigger many girl for feeling fat. To get good muscledefinition as a girl for biceps means a really low bf-percentage which might not be worth it for many females… Other reasons might be bc bicepcurls are really boring… 😅
    3. IF you want to push biceps (as a girl) this usually means working out next to the mirror by the dumbells (usually amongst the masculine men in tanktops…) and this can be a major trigger and really uncomfortable for many… A lot of women (again not all!) want to be in the corner of the gym and do bodyweight exercises and working the bicep in that regime is hard! It’s hard to train biceps in ”bodyweight non equipment exercises”… which brings me to my point…
    I do not agree that this exercise is a good bicep builder. BUT for some women (who dont want big biceps/dont have any equipment/dont want to work out amongst the guys) this exercise might not be so bad? At least the biceps gets activated at all? For those women that might be a win?
    I would NEVER use that exercise
    as a bicep-builder and I dont think it should be advertised as such… BUT for the target audience it might be as good as it gets? Although if that is the case that sould be clearly stated in the post!
    I dont know… That is not how I work out so I can’t say I understand the logic? Totally agree with it being misinformation! But just want to ad som nuance to the discussion about this exercise.. Im not saying its right and I’ll continue with my dumbell bicepcurls with grunting men around me but I’m also comfortable with that at the gym. That is not very common at the gym for young females though and I think that is understandable. This creates a audience for ”creative alternative solutions” in social media such as this… Good or not…
    Btw, love the hat!

    • @TFNL
      @TFNL  2 роки тому +1

    As someone who underate for years and didn't lose weight, I can't trust people who only promote a calorie deficit. There is way more to it. When eating too little, all foods started to upset my stomach, suffered with insane bloating, could not gain any muscle despite training regularly, insane mental fog, no focus, increased anxiety and depression etc. Now eating up to 1,5-2x and I'm down about a kilo and finally gaining muscle. Been eating like this (instuitive eating) for 1-2 years now and no fat gain. Metabolic adaptation is very real and whatever you like to call it, "starvation mode" is real in the sense that eating too little may not help you lose weight at all but instead you're body just hangs onto it, and as a result of decreased muscle mass you're body fat percentage increases.

    On a more serious and a bit unrelated note, you said something in here that was super validating. As a budding content creator, I've had some thoughts lately about how others seem to be pumping out content a lot, and I post about once a week. I've been wondering, "do I need to post more? Am i doing something wrong? Should I do this to grow faster?" and what you said helped me remember why I create in the first place. I just want to make people smile, and create what I love. I totally agree that pumping out content isn't always necessary, and can sometimes be detrimental. Especially since I create music, which takes time, I don't want to bully myself into trying to just put out more just because I feel like I need to in order to "keep up". I think that would just hurt my creativity and my drive to make music, especially. The right audience will come. Thank you for the validation that focusing on the numbers and such isn't the most important thing, nor should it be. It doesn't always have to be fast or intense, like some influencers make it out to be. I really needed to hear that today ❤

    My bet is that the hats are just abnormally small. Kind of like the supposed 3XL t shirts you occasionally come across that are somehow too small for you.
    I appreciate your stance and willingness to discuss PEDs even though that's a route I don't think I'd pursue for myself. Considering the number of elite bodybuilders facing cardiac health problems lately, I hope people will do their research and more seriously consider long term side effects. The fact that SARMS and other PEDs are more 'normalized' on TikTok doesn't eliminate the risks.
    CQOTW: how many bosu balls do you think you could pop in a minute by standing/jumping on them? 🙃
