I call BS on what Ruby Said at her sentencing. She was abusing her kids long before Jodi showed up. And Kevin allowed it.

There's no way that Ruby has tossed aside her beliefs and suddenly sees the error of her ways. She's a manipulator. I hope they don't let her out, ever. Her children have been given a life sentence. So should she.

Remember the two victims were the kids that had to watch their siblings open Christmas presents while they were given 'the gift of love' to teach them a lesson. That is emotional abuse. And Jodi wasn't any part of that.

@@nancynelms6455 emotional abuse is just as bad for the childrens welfare and it's a stepping stone to more draconian behaviour. Remember they were denied breakfast and she delayed healthcare. In truth I don't think she wanted them. If the physical abuse had continued those children wouldn't be with us. It's pure luck the wounds to the boy hadn't resulted in sepsis or him losing either limb.

It is shocking that Kevin does not ask any details about the condition of his 2 youngest children, even after hearing that they were found emaciated and were taken to a hospital. He does not ask about the wellbeing of his children in his other interviews either.
What concerns me is the police explained emaciated to the husband as not favorable to sustain life and he doesn't ask if they're ok. He doesn't ask if they're going to be ok. He seems to only be focused on the wife.

Yes that shocked me. He says he loves his wife. The woman who almost unalived his two youngest and Gosh knows what else with the older kids when they were home with Ruby. He doesn’t ask if his kids are ok or where they are. He doesn’t seem to care! It’s shocking. The police sound more outraged and concerned for the kids than their own father! WTH?

Urinary and fecal incontinence can be a result of extreme starvation. The body begins to break down the pelvic floor muscles. It's really scary that this was happening and Ruby did nothing.
R was a hero that day. He and E have an incredible amount of resilience and strength. They are so brave.
The sad thing is, he didn't go to the neighbour to raise the, alarm, he went to turn himself into the police, believing he was bad, and hoping he would at least receive better treatment than what he was currently receiving.
I remember Shanda Vander Ark's son Timothy becoming incontinent before he died of starvation. Scary that these kids were on the same path.

Probably already in the comments, but his attorney revealed that it was Ruby who called him to come get the kids. His silence is because he is more concerned about Ruby and protecting her than the kids. A day or so later, he wants his eldest daughter arrested as well. Body cam of that.
The word “invited” Kevin used in reference to Ruby asking him to leave his home, is something that seems to be Connexions wording. Ruby used that word in her journals in reference to “inviting her children” to confess truth.

Once again CPS drops the ball, after they were notified that young children were left alone for days and they knock on the door and leave. No follow up. Pathetic and disappointing.

Listening to the diary entries I get the vibes of a malicious narc: Blameshifting, gaslighting, punishing others for no reason, tormenting people physically and psychologically, finding ridiculous excuses for a horrible behaviour, showing no empathy,… And I‘m not buying her regrets in court either. It‘s part of a narc show.

This is an educated man, who understood where he was. He knew the police could lie and exaggerate, he didn't expect them to tell him the truth, so it was pointless to bother asking. I hope he is just brainwashed and confused with where reality lies. I want the kids to have a father, I pray that they can have at least one parent that they can come to see as being nothing more than a weak minded human with some redemption. We are supposed to have chosen trustworthy partners. Some people grow up with fairytale lies and live with that expectation. I know a lot of ignorant geniuses. I wonder after Kevin was away from Jodi and Ruby, was he still in close contact with "the others" who had indoctrinated him originally? They would have kept the soap suds bubbling his brain. Ruby Franke and her husband were already abusing those children when she met Hildebrandt. They then partnered in child abuse. Franke is not a victim and she's not sorry for anyone but herself. Anyone who thinks they saw regret and some kind of contrition in her statements at the trial are kidding themselves. She should never be allowed close to those children ever again. The father should only be allowed supervised visitation.
In legalese, Ruby was abusing the kids and Kevin was neglecting/failing to protect the kids. Both are crimes but they are different crimes, similar to how assault with a armed robbery and kidnapping are both crimes but they are different crimes.
The husband gave Jodi the power over him and his family! I haven’t heard concerns and love for the children over their concern for themselves!
I can’t imagine the mental, emotional, and permanent scars of this abuse that these children will have their entire lives!

Ruby carried a camcorder attached to her hands at all times if there were flying objects Ruby could have, should caught one on camcorder . Highly intelligent people are leaving 5he LDS religion because of the crazy beliefs .
It will be like many other cases, nearly everyone has access to a recording device but never seem to catch these wild accusations. They also were taking drugs from Mexico allegedly like peyote so I question anything they think they saw. Add in religious zealotry and I say it’s in all in their heads.

Ya this interview doesn't give anything new but the second one does. If anyone is full of demons it would be Jodi and he gives his kids over to that person and makes his son pay $900 a month for counseling from her.
People keep saying the daughter was 10 but she was 9 during the months abuse. She turned 10 soon after she was rescued.
Age 9 or age 10 is a distinction that doesn't really make a difference.

You are correct he wanted his eldest daughter arrested for burglary because she went into the family home to retrieve items for her siblings she took in and he thought she was gathering evidence against him for LE

I couldn't understand his behavior until I saw an interview on Morman Stories Podcast . First, Adam Paul Reed, second, Brian Tibbets, then the abuse of the children with Jesse Hildebrandt, Jodi's neice. This opened my eyes about the abuse to the husbands and children.
Yeah, but Kevin is not the same as those other men, because Kevin was involved in abusing these kids long before Ruby met Jody.

@@Jordan-nw4sj Ruby used blanket training on her babies, her sisters too. There will still likely be some video footage out there somewhere. Her sisters weren't Jodi supporters. Blanket training involves placing a baby on a blanket for a length of time and if they move off it they're smac*ked. Abhorrent physical and phycholgical ab*se.
Also Ruby broke Russell's leg (femur) when he was, around 6 months old and didn't seek medical care for him for several days. All this is, well before Jodi.
Then there's an interview with another family member, a cousin I believe, who stated the handcuffing etc is, something that goes on within the upbringing of children within their family. The ab*se is ingrained and generational.
Blanket training should be very clearly outlawed so that no one is unclear whether it’s ok or not, then if they do it anyway they can be held criminally accountable,no ifs no buts no maybes.

Kevin is no victim! He may not be criminally culpable, though he's certainly morally culpable. Having seen some of the 8 passengers pre-Jodi videos, Kevin was abusive to the kids in his own right. Would he have gone as far bad as Ruby? If she demanded it, i think he would have yes.

Kevin has no outrage about how his son and daughter were treated . I hope cps looks at the 8 passenger videos before even considering giving him custody.
kevin was more upset his eldest daughter took things out of the house he hadn't been in for a year after the police broke the door down than he was to learn his kids were hospitalized!
The daughter might have picked up documentation that would make him guilty in all this!
Kevin directly refutes Ruby’s claim that she wasn’t Jodi’s business partner in this interview. She said this at her sentencing acceptance speech.
I think she realized after the fact that maybe this was a weird "business partnership" bc she says she was never paid by Jody or the business, and that she was paying her to be like her mentor and a therapist for their family. Her lawyer probably pointed it out to her.

Kevin says as much himself. 90 percent of their earning was raised by exploiting their children, that was coming to an end due to reports, so Ruby had to find another avenue.
You need to listen to Kevin's 2nd police interview where he explains how Jodi wormed her way into their, into their home for months while Jodi was "possessed by demons" 👀
I don’t know about criminal charges but I’m firmly against him getting his children’s custody. Never risk putting those poor kids in danger again
Please listen to the second interview! There is no video but unbelievable things that Kevin was subjected to which will help us all understand how profoundly intertwined Jodi was in his marriage!

This was a man that was forced out of his family and for a whole year was trying to do everything he was asked to do in order to prove he he had “bettered” himself and be allowed back. Under such duress, and stress, he was probably doubting everything he was being told at that point, and fearful that anything he might say could further jeopardize his chances to be allowed back in.
He might not have qualified for father of the year up to then. But what was done to those kids at JH house is sadistic torture

I didn't follow this much but how this can a parent not know something was wrong? Even the adult children knew, teachers knew something was wrong. It was his responsibility to keep tabs and protect his children.

@@2A.FreedomThere's no proof of that. The family confirmed Jodi was the counselor who sent Chad to the wilderness camp, suggested taking away his bed, and suggested eve go hungry if she didn't pack her own lunch at age 5. The family has said Jodis been counseling then for years.

Yeah and he totally lied to the cops. 1st interview he says he didn’t know where Jodi lived and had never been to her house. 2nd interview he says he went there and was shocked at the size of the house. Obviously, he knows his kids are in very rough shape from abuse heaped on them by Ruby and Jodi but he lies and doesn’t correct himself. Asks about his wife, not his abused children. I mean…..even on 8 passengers, they had a book burning, took away Xmas gifts from the 2 youngest kids but one year gave the kids knives…..Kevin and Ruby didn’t seem to need Jodi to be sadistic. She just honed those traits.
Wow Ivens police department. From rescuing the kids, to arresting Jodi n Ruby, and Kevin's interview these cops are amazing. I can think of a lot of large cities and small rural towns that could learn from this department.

I also think their goal was to get kids as quick as possible on that day to control what they could be saying. Them saying kids fault for sores from cuffs/restraints & starvation is beyond heartbreaking, devastating and also makes me angry

I understand him. I did something similar. My wife was acting out bad and blaming me and I took the blame and was trying to atone for it so I stayed away in really bad conditions for almost a year.
Turns out it just enabled more bad behavior from her and I regret the hell out of it.
When someone is manipulating you and taking advantage of trust and good intentions it’s really a mind fuck. I’m just now starting to see it clearly. You can get lost in it.
Thank you for sharing your story. I think it's hard for people to put themselves in Kevin's shoes because of the horrible circumstances surrounding his children and wife. To me, it does sound as if he were manipulated too.

I’m sorry you went through that! Thank you for sharing. I can believe that Kevin was emotionally manipulated by Jodi and Ruby. What’s hard to understand is why he felt comfortable leaving his children with a religious leader he thought was possessed by a demon, why he didn’t seem particularly concerned about his children when told about their condition, etc. Kevin was definitely abused, gaslighted, IMO, but his primary concern was his wife and not his children, just from his own phrasing and direct statements. I was more primed to view him as a victim until he started talking (months ago). Now I feel like he was a victim of Ruby and Jodi, and a perpetrator against the children. I think both can be true at once. Just extremely unfortunate.

This case absolutely heartbreaking. These kids having been brought into this world by the two biggest FLAKES. They don't care about the kids, they only care about themselves. Just hope they get appropriate therapy and it is not too late to for them to grow up and have a fulfilling life in spite of these idiots who brought them into the world.

3:20 Interesting how he answers: "I've been in a separation from my wife and family." Normally, someone would say, "My wife and I are separated". Most parents are still able to have access to the children during a separation.
His response sounds like he's also been brain-washed to think that he was unworthy to be around his own kids. Sounds like this was, most likely, an outcome from Jodi Hildebrandt's marital/family counseling. Many other couples have attested to similar stories from her counseling, where the husband's behavior is condemned and he is deemed unworthy. What a horrible woman Jodi is.

I had that thought, too. Especially when he said that Jody was the one who noticed that he needed help for pornography. Because I think Adam said in his interview that Jody convinced him and his wife that this made him almost a threat to the kids, like a sexual deviant who shouldn't be allowed around the children. & many people pointed out that you can watch it once Jody will tell you that you're an addict.
I heard Adam talk about the Mormon church teaching about marriage and presume Jodi had mastered how to manipulate that belief. Kevin’s later interview he talked about how Ruby was willing to sign over family assets to Jodi to be a part of conextions

Sin culture is so weird and I won't encroach on other's beliefs in general but the minute they say that children embody sin I think that's a major red flag. Children are the most vulnerable and innocent group of people on the planet.

I had wanted to work Peds ICU until I had clinicals at a county hospital unit. I had to stop at a park on my way home just to see happy kids playing.
I know some people need to turn away or not listen for a while to these stories of the vile actions of these abusers but I can’t stop thinking about the poor kids who didn’t have the opportunity to turn away or walk away from their experience. Trapped for an unknown time being tortured. Those young souls broken from such an early age. I hope you thrive now little ones.

Not controlling normal bodily function at that age is likely related to being over stressed or traumatized. Considering there isn’t any other preexisting condition to connect it to. Her statements are wild and outlandish.

This book/preachings/teachings etc WAS in their eyes meant to be used in the future in “the” Book of Mormon/Bible!!
There was a journal and another book that Ruby and Jodi called something like “the printed pages”. I’m not sure which one you are reading from but I believe the printed pages book wasn’t found until after they pled guilty .This is where Ruby wrote down all of the crazy things that Jodi and others saw (crazy stuff like plates flying across rooms and so much more crazy stuff). According to this cult this is where Ruby wrote down all the beliefs, events and words that were to be in the next bible/book of Mormon or whatever the religious book they follow. Kevin told the detectives about the book (and its general purpose) but did not know exactly what it entailed . He told the detectives that if they found that book that it would outline everything and basically be all the proof needed for the convictions. I believe it was not located until after they pled guilty. I’m not sure if what you’re reading is out of her (Ruby’s) day-to-day journal or if it’s the “printed pages” book that words were never meant to be seen or read by anyone outside of this religious cult . (until it was published in the bible 🙄) Literal evil!! And she talks about the devil …and forcing the kids outside in dangerous heat levels because the devil only stays in dark places. Meanwhile, they were forcing them into closets/rooms/spaces without any windows or light! ……. not to mention starving to death, having nothing to educate or stimulate them. I was under coercive control of my father's widow (not my biological mother) after my father passed away because she was able to use his death as a way to make me feel guilted into doing what she wanted. I was only under her control for a few days before I was (thankfully) rescued by my loved ones, but I can say from firsthand experience, when you're under that control, processing information, reality and normal conversations is virtually impossible. It's like trying to hear and speak while under water. Everything is garbled and you can't trust your senses. I can see that kind of trauma in the husband. If he was feeling anything like I was in those few days I would give him some grace and understand why he wasn't behaving like a 'normal' person and demanding to see his children.

I know the 2/20 statement of Kevin requesting Ruby recieve the MAX sentence (same as Jodi), was thru his lawyer, but I don't believe his lawyer would have said it if Kevin disagreed.
In February, Kevin wanted Ruby to get the maximum for the inhumane abuse perpetrated on their children. This is a good sign to me.
I was in the "I hate Kevin, how could he?" camp, & that was amplified after this first interview. But after seeing the second interview & reading more about him, a big part of me belives his every move has been controlled by Ruby their entire relationship & he's also been emotionally & mentally abused by her.
I think Kevin has a really good lawyer who helped WAKE HIM UP. I don't think there's any way Kevin would gain custody of any of the kids if he wasn't in long-term intensive therapy. He has been trying to get custody of the older teens for a while now & still hasn't been awarded any. This is good. The requirements to gain custody should be incredibly strict.
Seeing Chad & Shari walk into the courtroom and sit with their father is also a good sign to me. Shari has been in therapy for some years now and it has completely changed her life. I honestly do not believe she would initiate any contact with him again if she didn't believe it was a healthy move. Chad also hadn't spoken to his father in a year. I think it's a sign Kevin is "coming to". Idk. This is my desperate hope at least.
You know who the Franke kids AREN'T safe with? Any of Ruby's siblings or parents. They don't get it. They forgive Ruby & believe the kids should too & I find that so disgusting & unsafe.
I also saw a comment on Chad's Instagram where someone said "I hope you don't trust Kevin anymore." Chad said, "False. I'm sorry, who are you?" And that said a lot to me too. Even with all of the UA-cam videos, we don't know what happened behind the scenes. I hope the older kids especially can tell their version if they want to.

His SECOND interview is on audio, he is as guilty as Ruby and Jodi. This interview is really Kevin-light. He knew exactly who was where, when.
If you can listen to his second interview and come away with that reaction I have to assume you have never encountered anyone as manipulative as jodi. I am happy for you, truly, but Kevin is absolutely a victim of a sociopathic cult leader.
Ruby clearly has her own issues, but she is too.
They were brainwashed by jodi who is a master at this. She targeted this family because of their money and fame. Fame she tried to capitalize on to grow her cult. A cult centered on her own enrichment and sadism.
I'd bet money that the journal ruby kept was at jodi's direction/demand. A way for Jodi to get off on the control and manipulation she taught Ruby when she wasn't there. A way to make sure her control didn't slip.
Without jodi, ruby and Kevin would have been religiously authoritarian parents. Obnoxious, but not criminal. Nothing like this.
