I am so sick of people saying she was manipulated by Jodie when it's clear how abusive she was to kids in 8 passengers videos.

I think she was abusive to begin with but that doesn't protect her from being manipulated by Jodi. One thing that stands out is that until 2018 her kids seemed to be getting a reasonable amount of food most of the time and none of them had scarring wounds. They seemed really neglected quite a lot and the discipline was pretty harsh for transgressions that were quite minor, but there was nothing like this. The only people sharing similarities with how Ruby was treating her kids after 2018 are people who had run-ins with Jodi.
I really think Adam Paul Steed made a good point that Jodi appealed to women who were already selfish and abusive and molded them into something worse. I think the only thing that matters in the Ruby was manipulated point is that Jodi is a danger to the public while Ruby is a danger to her family. She deserves a fair amount of jail time, especially as a punitive measure against her crimes, but I worry Jodi will remain a danger to the public at large for her life. I wish she could stay in prison forever for the safety of other children. I care a bit less if Ruby gets out in 10-30 years though I would be angry if she only did 4 or less.

I read the oldest daughter said things were good until 2018, when Jody came into the picture, and that the UA-cam viewers didn't start reporting abuse until 2018. Also, Jody's niece, who Jody abused long before Jody met Ruby, said the abuse towards Ruby's kids was classic Jody. She said "these ideas came from Jody." I was watching Hidden True Crime's podcast the other day and Dr. John a Forensic Psychologist, said that Ruby has an entrenched belief that children are evil and that they must be punished. He also said, Jodi did not make Ruby do the things she did to R and E, but gave her permission to do them. They played a phone call Ruby had with her sister from jail, and Ruby fully knew that if she acted super remorseful she would look better to the prosecutor, because of Jodi's lack of remorse. Ruby also told her sister the prosecutor told her he is going to stay neutral when she comes up for parole, because he thought she was remorseful. Dr. John said that Ruby's addressing the court was an "Academy Award" speech, and because of her entrenched beliefs she is at increased risk to her children and it would take years to years to rid her of this belief system and it wouldn't happen within a few days that she saw her wrongdoing.

It seems that people think that saying that Ruby was manipulated is somehow abolishing her from everything, but it does not. It is just showing who is the bigger monster of those two, Ruby is a danger to her family, while Jodi is a danger to Ruby's family and every other person that she meets. No one thinks that Ruby is innocent, and just the fact that she got manipulated into doing that to her kids, says a lot. I agree with Peter and the prosecutor: Ruby is a strict parent and religious fanatic who got manipulated by Jodi into thinking that her children are possessed and had to be "saved" by following Jodi's visions and advice, but that doesn't justify her wrongdoings. Not at all. Jodi may be the mastermind, but Ruby is still the executor of Jodi's will.

@@Signe0184 The fact you believe ruby was manipulated is very telling. She showed signs of escalating abuse before jodi showed up, if you ever watched her channel you would know. Anyone who believes their children are evil has got some serious mental health issues going on to even get to that point of suspension of belief. If anyone is able to swallow the mormon religion they are ripe to swallow anything because they have already proven they are gullible, doesn't make them less responsible.

@@screamoguy100 You're contradicting yourself, you literally saying that she as a Mormon is proven to be gullible. You are even proving my point. As I said, no one is saying that Ruby is not guilty. She was a religious fanatic, one can be an abuser and manipulated at the same time.
Even Jessie, Jodi's niece says that ductaping and chaining children is Jodi's doing since Jessie experienced the same treatment.
Ruby is now against Jodi, which is not something new, it is a common thing that happens in cults. Followers who become separated from their leader and find out that their leader is talking against them tend to change their minds and "wake up". Think of hippies and Charles Manson, the hippies killed those people most horrifically, but later, in the prison they got back to their senses, but guess what, that doesn't absolve them. One may be manipulated, but there is also a reason for that.
Ruby probably still thinks that kids should be punished when doing something wrong, but she may be aware now that her kids were NOT possessed by the devil, and that Jodi's visions, which she talks about in her diary, were not justification for the abuse of her children. But guess what, it is too late now.
She is on trial for a very specific thing, that's why the focus is on whether she was manipulated or not. She is not accused of making Chad sleep on a beanbag etc... Only for ducktaping, isolating, torturing, and starving those two kids under a specific period. That's why they can't charge Kevin since he proved he was absent and had no contact with the kids. But that and other things will affect his custody battle.

Peter, I really respect and like your channel, I am also quite concerned that you’re buying into Ruby’s shtick. And it IS a performance. It’s how she had so many calls made on her to cps and then was allowed to keep doing what she was doing. It’s not like Jodi and Ruby met and suddenly this sweet, friendly helpful woman and mother of six became a monster out of nowhere. People have been trying to help these kids for years. She was absolutely problematic before Jodi. It’s really really important to realize that. Remember how she started wailing and weeping that R was SAing other kids in the court? During a custody hearing? One she absolutely knew would be reported? Where was that accusation in her journals? That was a manipulation, a grotesque one, but one that was calculated to try and take the pressure off herself. She weaponizes tears. She is not safe. I think a lot of you and I’m aware it’s hard to see a situation like this and see a religious, attractive wealthy woman in the hot seat and not think she must be sincere when she starts thanking the people who arrested her: she never directly admitted to what she did to the kids- she only refers to them as “chicks” and goes on about how she was “waddling them to safety” and then was manipulated into harming them. . She did not apologize for falsely claiming that RF was a SA, she did not “thank” him for getting away from her. Why? I think because his and EF’s egos are the only ones she doesn’t think she needs to stroke to get out early. Please, I’m telling you and I know many others are telling you. This woman was harmful and abusive before she ever met Jodi. And her lies now are still catching people.

I’m not picking on Ruby just because- I listen to the words she says and the way she says them and hear a very cleverly manipulative person who is actually convincing some intelligent people that she’s not so bad. Ruby blames Jodi. Not herself.
Ruby is their mother and it was her responsibility to ensure those kids wellbeing, not Jodi.
Jodi may have encouraged Ruby to depraved new heights of abuse, but Ruby had a choice. She chose to torture her own children and even kept a journal of her abuse where she calls her own children "evil" and "demons".

I sincerely hope the parole board reads her journal and her words are ringing in their ears when she is before them, telling them exactly what she knows she needs to do to be out on parole. She’s very clear on what the parole board requires as she stated in the phone call with Jodie that she’s doing exactly what is required but Jodie isn’t.

No, dude- she didn’t call her attorney when the cops showed up. She was ON THE PHONE with her attorney when the cops showed up.
Second of all, maybe in some generic scenario in a vacuum calling your attorney doesn’t imply guilt. But in this case it absolutely does show consciousness of guilt- an 11 year old boy had just “.gone missing” from her home. If she wasn’t doing anything wrong, why wouldn’t her first phone call be to the police?? “Oh my goodness, a young boy in my care has gone missing from our house. Please can you help us search? It’s an emergency! He’s gone and we don’t know what’s happened to him!!”
Instead, the first phone call she makes when she realizes he’s missing is to CALL HER LAWYER.
COME ON, DONT BE DAFT- that is 10000% consciousness of guilt! Every other caretaker or responsible adult in America would have been on the phone to the police immediately, begging for a search to be mounted immediately, an Amber Alert announced, media exposure, etc. but not Jodi. No, the first call she makes is to her lawyer. Why? Because she knows that if he’s gone from that house it’s because he escaped, not because he was kidnapped. And she knew HE would be going straight to the police, and that they would in turn be showing up at her door, and that if they didn’t already know exactly what was going on in that house from the boys description, they would find out when they came in and discovered the state that little girl was in.
I wish we could hear a recording of that phone call to her lawyer. I would defy you to listen to what she obviously must have said to him (ummm, I’ve been sort of torturing a child and he just escaped and went to the police, is there any way you can save me from decades in prison?) and tell me that’s not “consciousness of guilt”.

I agreed with Peter until I saw the recent document dump that included the pictures of Russell's ankle wounds, his bones sticking out, and heard the testimony of the first responders that after removing Russell's makeshift bandages, the smell of rotting flesh was pungent and unmistakeable. I agreed with Peter until I read Ruby's journal and read the hatred she had for these two children that she gave birth to.
Although I never watched 8 Passengers nor heard of it prior to the arrest of Ruby and Jodi, it was clear to me that Ruby has an entrench system of beliefs that predates her association with Jodi. Although I do believe in redemption, salvation and change as certainly a possibility, I can tell you that as a Christian abused, neglected and bullied throughout my childhood, I'm still, at 64 years of age, uncovering beliefs about myself that require much prayer and sanctification from my Lord and Savior. And in his grace and mercy, he is doing that.
However, given that Ruby is not and has not truly taken responsibility for her f-ed up beliefs and thinking, it's not a stretch to doubt that her acceptance speech at sentencing was actually genuine or sincere, let alone driven by a true desire to change. Maybe after she stews behind bars for a decade or two I will be less doubting about her assertions of change. But for now, while I know it's possible and I pray that she does change, I have changed my mind and no longer agree with Peter.
Could I be wrong? Absolutely. I hope that I am. Until proven wrong, I remain very skeptical. Not because I doubt God's power, but because I doubt that Ruby is even close enough to God to see the Light. She would not know the gospel if she was hit with a crucifix. Pray for her.
