      LMD police officer here... A big hurdle when trying to investigate and ticket for offences after the fact is identity. In most of these cases the best possible outcome would be a ticket to the registered owner for the moving offences (which don't incur points/driving history) and are far less effective at holding bad drivers accountable. There is also the issue that tickets need to be personally served and this can become very time consuming, especially if the registered owner resides outside of the city where you work or is avoiding service. I sometimes watch these videos and then look up the possible offences that a driver could be charged with should I come across something similar. I will also say that during my shifts there are so many offences happening right in front of me, that it makes more sense for me to address those incidents immediately than to devote my time to investigate things that occurred weeks or months ago.

    1:16 Ah, good ol' tunnel vision.
    2:12 That was impressive. If I'm running things, that's mandatory driving test to get your license back, on top of other consequences.
    2:58 The medical emergency here is an anal-cranial inversion.
    3:37 Again, if I were in charge... Mandatory driving test to get your license back. There's zero excuse to drive like this. You would fail a driving test if you did this.
    4:07 I realize it's probably not a car jacking attempt, but if you're a pedestrian and you do this to me, I'm assuming the worst and I'm going to take measures that may involve you not walking properly for a while. Don't do that.
    5:51 Definitely someone who needs to retake their driving test to demonstrate they're familiar with how traffic lights work.
    6:10 I CAN be guilty of being an impatient driver, but one thing I won't do is change my mind about my trip management. Once I'm in a turn lane, that's it, I'm turning. That is, unless it's one of those days where you shoulder check and use your mirrors, and somehow there are NO cars anywhere to be seen. Which is the opposite of this scene. Impatient drivers like this are why insurance rates keep going up.
    6:45 That made me anxious. lol (oh and of course the jackass in the red car doesn't even signal to turn.)
    7:45 About as bad as impatient drivers are the drivers who are 100% unsure of what's going on around them and they do everything in slow motion.
    8:09 No driving test for that fella. 3 month suspension on drivers license, if I were in charge. That's willful. They know exactly what they're doing.
    8:22 We have the opposite problem in Red Deer. Too many people here STOP at freeflow lanes.

    Necessity can be used as a defence to break a law (temporarily) like if you had to save someone's life (ex rushing to hospital) however, necessity cannot be used just to be jackass weaving through traffic because you are late for an appointment. You also cannot harm other people in the process, obviously. So driving really fast because you had to pee is not necessity, just pull over and pee in the bushes. Three tips for necessity; 1. the accused must show that the act was done to AVOID greater harm. 2. there was no reasonable opportunity for an alternative course of action that did not involve a breach of the law. 3. the harm inflicted must be LESS than the harm avoided.

    • @vancouversworstdrivers
      @vancouversworstdrivers  Рік тому +2

      I sat in on a court case that involved a bunch of friends camping, getting drunk, and shooting guns in the wilderness. Someone accidentally shot off another person's forearm and rushed him to a hospital (driver was drunk). Driver lost control, rolled the car, and the person who's arm was shot off died in the accident. Doctor at the trial testified that the injured person would have survived because they wrapped a belt around his arm to prevent blood loss...the problem was that the driver thought the person was going to die (which was understandable) but their driving ended up killing the other person. What are your thoughts on this? Does that change your position? I wonder if "life or death" situations are more subjective than we think.

    • @briang.2599
      @briang.2599 Рік тому +2

      @@vancouversworstdrivers Driving drunk, although in an effort to help a friend in distress, would be considered unreasonable. Driver may have been charged with manslaughter I'm guessing if the passenger who died, died because of the car accident rather than the gun shot. Necessity is best used when the law broken causes no harm to anyone, but the action of breaking the law was necessary and a reasonable action. So, like speeding at 150+km/h just to go pee is unreasonable and dangerous, and definitely not life or death. Speeding to rush someone to hospital on the other hand, who may need urgent care, while taking precautions to NOT run red lights or acting in a way that is dangerous, just driving quickly might be more in line with "necessity", therefore the speeding might be allowed.

    The majority of these should be license suspensions for dangerous driving. Then they can walk or take public transit. These videos should be turned into the traffic enforcement of the RCMP, and drivers issued suspensions IMO.

    No, it is not OK to park in the bike lane. The bikes then must swerve into traffic to avoid parked cars which is dangerous for all. Bike lanes are for bikes, parking spaces are for parking!

    Vancouver has too many new person drivers, mixed with too many senior drivers that should have had their license suspended our turned in many years ago. Throw in some drivers who clearly bought, bribed or got their license in a cracker jax box and well... you get this fine mess.

    1:20 - pretty ballsy of the dashcamer to continue driving instead of coming to a stop or at least moving to another lane - the red car has already demonstrated that they're not paying attention and they will continue to be unpredictable - better to stop or stay clear away then them making another stupid move.
    4:10 Can you park in the bike lane?
    No, you cannot - not even temporarily.
    A bike lane is a designated use lane - motor vehicles cannot drive, stand or park in a bike lane as per the BC MVA - unless the bike lane is only separated with the other lanes by a broke white line.

    When turning left and the light turns red, you have control of the intersection as long as your front tires are past the white line and the cars with a green are supposed to yield until you’ve completed your left turn

    Of all of the countries I have driven in, I find the Lower Mainland has the highest number of bad drivers. Lane changes - do not signal. Turning left or right - turn your signal on half way through the turn, if at all. After completing your turn heaven forbid that you go into the lane closest to you. I fear that thorough testing of drivers would eliminate a large number of them from driving thereby robbing ICBC of the revenue. No wonder they had to introduce "no fault insurance."

    hi , you said you want to hear from us on 4:20 clip. for me , YES! vehicles can park TEMPRORARILY if they are leaving , unloading or picking up someone instead of blocking the entire vehicles train behind him . sometimes, gotta be realistic and we should all know bikes can drive through very tiny spots, and come on, let's share! ahaha even i see bikes drive in front of me to turn left in the middle of massive and busy intersections.

      At least here in Nova Scotia, they cannot PARK in a bike lane at all, but temporarily STOP or STAND there (which is something different, because you have to be around and have to leave immediately afterwards. If you leave your vehicle ALONE - e.g. while visiting a shop to buy something (instead of just picking something up) - you're in trouble, since you are not loading or unloading, but parking). To quote the FAQ for Bill 93:
      "Can a car be parked in a bike lane if there is no sign prohibiting parking?
      No. Under the new laws, you may not park in bike lanes. However, the law does recognize there are situations, particularly at bus stops, where it is necessary to temporarily stop or stand in a bike lane as part of operations; for example transit buses. Vehicles may temporarily stand or stop in a bike lane while actively engaged in loading or unloading of goods or people. If you must stop in a bike lane to unload/load passengers or goods, you must yield to cyclists already in the bike lane prior to pulling over and stopping.
      As a cyclist watch for commercial vehicles or buses that may be stopped in a bike lane. When this occurs, remember to wait and see if it is safe to pass on the left or wait until the vehicle leaves. If it is a bus, and it has a signal on to pull away from the curb, yield to the bus. If the bus is stopped and no signal is present, pass on the left to allow passengers to leave the bus."
