3:40 People need to stop being impatient during traffic light changes. If it's yellow and there's a car ahead of you waiting to turn, just throw it in park and wait for the next available light. And FFS, to those who crank their wheel waiting to turn left at a light, STOOOOP! What's your plan if you get rear-ended? You're now careening into oncoming traffic because some ass clown hit you, so your day is about to go from bad to potentially fatal.
Turn your wheels when you're for sure about to go.

Yeah, people make that mistake all the time, turning a bit before they actually turn. Sometimes though it's because they got stuck unexpectedly.
The problem with hanging out there is that the oncoming straight traffic will keep going right until the red, and then the turner who is halfway into the turn already goes at the same time and BANG.

Drivers in Richmond are simply horrible. Some days I avoid 2-3 collisions from people who don't signal lane changes and expect others to get out of their way. I see them, almost daily, make a right hand turn directly into the middle lane. Sometimes I am turning left and get a feeling the person opposite me is going to turn directly into my lane so I'll pause a bit. Other times I'll go and they get pissed I am in the correct lane. The pedestrian at 3:09 is wrong as the pedestrian signal is red. It always is when there is an advanced left turn signal. This occured at Westminster and Minoru near Richmond Centre. Once a person got onto Hwy 99 and drifted across 3 lanes, no signal and almost smashed into me. She was on her cell phone.

Cops only enforce speeding because they can measure it and take that measurement to court. Now that dashcams exist in every cop car, and body cams also, you would think they would crack down on all the other unsafe stuff, with video evidence to back them up. Unfortunately, they will just keep doing speeding, until the provincial government tells them to start dealing with every other thing. (Look at pedestrians jaywalking - they do not care anymore even if the light is red, and it is never enforced. Police stopped doing it at all, because the courts caught the VPD doing all their enforcement of that against homeless people at Main & Hastings (who can't even pay fines, so WTF). If they started handing out jaywalking tickets downtown, they'd be writing so many their hands would cramp up.

My observation is that the incidents of "Vancouver turns"--drivers who start out in the left turn lane and make their turn into the outer lane--is increasing exponentially.
A couple of days ago, a guy honked at me angrily when I made a left turn correctly, then made my lane change (with signal, of course) a block down the road. He was determined to pass me on the right and was angry that I "cut him off" (as he saw it.)
I think you could probably do a whole video on "Vancouver turns."

That sort of turn is only safe (still not proper) if there is nobody else there. I have seen cars come together on W. Georgia & Hornby when one driver did that while turning left from the leftmost lane of Hornby onto Georgia (into W. Georgia's center lane), while the car in the center lane also turned left from the centre lane of Georgia to the center lane of Georgia. Both drivers doing the wrong thing, ended up with two cars trying to occupy the same space. Dunces !

The police need to concentrate on this sort of oblivious/dangerous stuff, not speeding. They crack down on speeding because it is quantifiable and they can go to court with a measurement. Demonstrating someone is unsafe in other ways becomes more subjective (cop's word against defendant). However, that was before dashcams existed - now they could take evidence of unsafe conduct to court with video evidence, so they should crack down on this sort of ridiculous shit. Roam around, picking off people who do the really stupid things.
Also, ICBC should be giving people discounts for having dashcams on their car, and newer cars should come with dashcams built in (not hard for manufacturers to do since their safety features incorporate cameras already).
    As for this particular video:
    - Both cyclist incidents were the cyclist's fault.
    - I've seen people drive on sidewalks and grass multiple too. Two types of driver there: oblivious idiots or scumbags.
    - Having worked at the airport, I can tell you those red area are not clear enough. Many people do not know what it means, when it is a kind of marking used nowhere else. They should just paint "NO PARKING" on it in large letters too.
    - How do people have this "stopping at red lights is optional" attitude? Nobody teaches that, do they?
    - Same goes for turning across other lanes of traffic to make a turn, or just presuming you can make a double turn lane where there isn't one.
    - Authorities need to investigate corrupt practices at driving schools, especially the truck schools. (The flatbed incident is just more evidence; truckers used to be safer drivers than average, but lately, worse than the average.)

    • @Gyissan

To be fair, the painted...whatever that is at 5:30 is vehicle width and completely unmarked as to its real purpose. It's bad design. Paint a pedestrian or even just some crosshatching over it and that will solve the problem (mostly, guy in the first clip would definitely still see it as roadway).

I can't believe that the narrator, as a commentator on driving habits and culture, did not condemn the absolutely disgusting behaviour of the Hyundai at 8:49. If someone is trying to get into the lane you're in (not 'your' lane; lanes don't belong to people), you make space and let them in! Doesn't matter if they're in the wrong. Doing what that Hyundai did is dangerous, self-righteous, petty behaviour.
Consider this: The Cruiser driver is not familiar with this area and notices at this moment that they're not in the lane to where they need to go. To get behind the Hyundai, they would have to slow down too much in their lane. The Hyundai could show some courtesy and make the situation easier and safer for everyone. What a dick!
I don't do road rage, but I do feel anger when I see situations like this. And I can rage in this comments section.
People need to do some driving in other countries/cultures, where the roads are shared not 'owned.' Vancouverites are so entitled.

    • @blandoworthlessness
      @blandoworthlessness Рік тому

I understand your point that you should be courteous but if the person isn't letting you into their lane you should just leave your signal on and wait for the next car to let you in. Don't try to force your way in because that's not courteous either.
