Me too and play their stuff on guitar and I’m 21. I think this kid just needs more time to listen and understand it. This better than all the music today!
I remember when this song came out on the radio. There is no way to explain how influential the song was to popular music at that time. It was the gold standard by which all other rock music was compared to.
Yep, it is difficult to explain that revelance to a teenager these days, but I do believe he understands the significance to an extent. Had a good time watching this one with him.
I remember those days on the radio and one thing in STH that for that time was new and different was the rhythm of the drumming appearing so late in the song and after that the growth in intensity and the grand finale. You're a good kid lol. Keep on keeping on with the good taste in music. I turned 15 in June of 1990 and was already a Zeppelin fan for 2 yrs. I've been listening ever since. I know there are good kids, like yourself who can appreciate incredible fuckin music like Led Zeppelin. ❤❤❤
Yes it sure is, because I’ve been watching all the reaction video’s, & that’s young people of all races too. I’ve heard several say, about being done with Hip Hop & Rap one said I’m definitely rethinking my music choices. If this kid likes country, then he’s a lost cause.

When I was 17, my peers were also saying that no one in our generation would listen to anything older than the 90's. I started with the early 90's grunge period, but quickly extended through the 80's, back to Led Zeppelin and beyond. I did not understand why would anything be "obsolete" if it is good. And I think it's the same today. The son will say that no one in his generation would choose to listen to this repeatedly, implying that it is too long, boring, not attention-grabbing enough. But there are people his age who do listen to this, and there always will be. I doubt someone will listen to most of today's most popular songs in 20, let alone 50 years.
I hear ya, all valid points, and I say it on my channel a lot, I am not necessarily a fan of just metal, or rap, or classic rock, etc., I am just a fan of good music.

Oh man, you're falling down on the job there dad. My kids, whether they wanted to or not, listened to music I grew up with. I bought this album when it came out while in high school. The got Zeppelin, Hendrix, the Doors, Cream, Bad Company, Queen, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd and many more. It was gratifying coming home from work and hearing "Smoke on the Water" coming from my son's room in the basement and "Walk This Way" coming from my daughters room. You ought to check out Heart covering Stairway at the Led Zeppelin Kennedy Center honors.
Yep. I have four daughters who are complimented often on their musical taste by people, both older and younger. They grew up with the Beatles, Queen, Squeeze, The Who, The Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac... hell I could go on forever. They took me to see Squeeze as a Xmas present a couple of years back and we all had a fantastic time. Only two types of music... stuff you like and stuff you don't :-)
I asked my 7 year old which was her favourite band, she said Pink Floyd, I asked my 8 year old, he said Led Zeppelin. I basked in the glory, and thought my work here was done. Then my wife introduced her to Taylor Swift, and he's got a George Ezra CD. ... back to the drawing board.

I'm 21, and discovered Led Zep when I was about 16... I think you need to have an old head on young shoulders to understand and appreciate Stairway... I personally prefer the live versions of Stairway because they are impulsive and spontaneous - and the song is the best example of music and what it can provide for people. For my grandparents generation, at the time I dare say they didn't appreciate it in terms of its musical prowess but rather as a song to rock and roll to in the 70's. It was a time long since lost and will never return because my generation and subsequent generations have grown up in a different culture, atmosphere, society - its incredibly manufactured... there's no appreciation for what it is but rather what it says about the person listening to it - they don't want to associate with that type of music because it's uncool, it's not popular or trendy and could damage their image - for those like me who intentionally decide to go against the social grain, we can be proud and appreciate the beauty and brilliance of Stairway and anthems like it... it's what our forefathers were built on... we owe them everything.
James MacGregor ..... thank you for those encouraging words! Watching young people express little to no emotion to such incredibly talented musicians is disheartening to say the least.
Don't have your heart broken old man. My kids don't get it. They expect the song to start immediately. No build up, why is it so long, why does it get soft then loud. The young generation don't appreciate the musicianship. Those are 4 of the most talented artist born.

you can legitimately make the case that every single member of led zeppelin is top 3 at their instrument of all time. no other band, or superband, can claim that.
Well the band kids (like me) actually understand what music is you see. When you are raised eating fastfood an nothing else it's hard to apreciate how much gormet is because you haven't developed a taste for it. Show him enough good music and he will come back and think better of this song.
oh right forgot that the only true musicians that show musicianship are from classic rock bands. Dude said he could appreciate the song just wasnt his jam. stop being an elitist and learn that there's musicianship in other genres than the one you've chosen as your favourite.
The ears are trained for rap crap trap that’s why but I’m fairness.. this isn’t as straight up as the album of course so it gets a little lost in translating
I love that you chose the MSG 1973 live performance to react to. I was about 18 when I first heard the recorded version, which I had on repeat thereafter. Once I heard this version a couple of years later, it's the only version I listen to even today. That solo...
I was a tween when this song came out and so many good memories of it! It was the song at the time and still is my favorite Led Zeppelin song!! Still gives me chills when I hear it!!
Man, it is mega cool that your kids do this with you. They are both super insightful about their generation and absolutely add to your channel. It goes to show the kind of father you are and the relationship you have with them. Thank you all!
I was a teen in the 70s thank God!! Zeppelin is the BEST EVER! This is the best version...this band is the best live! You are listening to the best guitarist who ever lived...Jimmy Page! Do The Song Remains The Same/The Rain Song...it is live and kick ass! New subscriber.
Stairway to Heaven was always the last song played at a school dance. It meant something if someone asked you to slow dance to STH because it meant they were cool with having you in their arms for more than 7 minutes. 😍 it was the most iconic song for that, other than Hey Jude. Ah, the 70’s. A golden age for rock music!
Ya, the studio version gets blocked worldwide, so ran with this one, but a really good live one at that with good sound quality too, sometimes that is hard to find. Thanks for watching.
My son was introduced to Led Zeppelin at 7 years old. Now he is 9. And he always says Led Sep sounds so fantastic and he loves John Bonham. When he hears that guitar by Jimmy Page on Stairway he closes his eyes and immersed. That truly says alot. He feels it. He loves the band.
This song with the lyrics and Page's solo in one of the best even now. I'm 20 and I love it.. Tge day when I can play that solo will be the day I know I have learned to play the guitar
In all honesty today’s generation doesn’t have the attention span of past generations. When I sit down with millennial to watch tv or a movie I actually watch the movie. They literally sit there with their phones or tablets in their hands while the movie is on but they’re actually concentrating on their social media as opposed to watching something with a plot. Music for them has to be immediately stimulating or they lose interest. So you’ll probably never see another Page, SRV, or Hendrix in this era. Today’s generation would never actually watch them perform. They’d be too busy looking at their phones or tablets.
I once showed my mate at school one of my favorite musical performances (Richie Kotzen, Remember, Live in Sau Paulo).. he lasted 6 seconds before concluding it wasn't for him. Kids ey.
That's the one thing I liked about queen cause when they were asked what does the song mean and they say well its means what the listener wants it to mean
I've probably heard hundreds of guitar solos, from multiple music genres, but I've never heard a solo quite like the one on this song. It's not the most technical, it's not the most accurate, but for me it's the best thing someone ever did on a guitar. Magic!
I have total respect for the fact that he took the time to really listen to it, and can recognize the fact that it is a great song, even though it doesn't exactly fit his taste. I won't throw him too much hate for that. I know today's generation doesn't have that long of an attention span, but maybe a few will realize that there is nothing wrong with chilling out and throwing on a good jam band and escaping the world for a few miinutes.
I'm 25 my dad has 1000s of vinyl rock/ classic rock albums from the 70s, 80s and 90s. I grew up listening to these songs and they will always hold a special place in my heart for what they are and what the songs represent.
For someone who wouldn't listen to the song, his head was sure bobbing along all the way through. I had the same reaction though to Zeppelin in general. It took a while for them to really grow on me, but hearing all their music and how diverse they are, I've come to love and appreciate them.
man im 16 and i love any old music it can be rock n roll, heavy metal, rap, country if its good i'll love it. personally i listen a bit more to rap because i love the concept of rhymes methaphore syllables and etc. but believe me i know talent when i hear it and stairway to heaven is a legendary song.
In the 70s as a teenager I listened to Led Zeppelin. I don't think it's a generation thing. I think it's what you are exposed to musically as you grow up. Back in the 60's and 70s we had great music and we listened to everything. I'd pop an album on the turn table, crank up the volume and lay down in front of the speakers and lose myself in the music. You gain an appreciation for good music in all it's variations. Think about the kind of music on the radio today. If kids don't go and look for some good indie bands or listen to the classics on their own they are subjected to corporate drivel and rap. Not saying it's all bad, but instrumentally and vocally it three notes mixed in various ways. Boring. There is some good stuff, but you have to find it.
When my mom died, I played this song at her funeral since she is a big Led Zeppelin fan. Everyone started crying and sobbing when they heard the song. Even now, when I listened to this song, tears started flowing down my cheeks. Rest in peace, mom. I will see you soon.
I’m 51 and first heard Zeppelin in 1977 and it was this song. I cut 3 yards so I could buy the record. Fast forward to today, my 13 year old daughter rocks to Zeppelin and everything else I listen to. There’s just a hand full of people that can’t appreciate LZ like most.
I´m excited to have found this channel. You, and apparently your wife, have the same taste in music as I and it´s so cool to see you introducing it to your kids the way you do. I was very fortunate to be able to see Robert Plant and his band at a festival here in Iceland just 10 days ago. He still sounds amazing and the whole band with him. It was really quite the experience. As a Led Zeppelin fan you probably know that they got the inspiration for the song; Immigration song, after being in Iceland 1970 when they held a concert here. And after over 20 years of not performing the song they ended the concert with that as a thank you to the Icelandic people. The crowd went mad!! P.S. like your cool picture of my country in the background 👌😉
I enjoy watching you interact with your kids as I did mine some years ago. Mine are 21 and 19, although I didn't video them, Us. I had very similar interactions with them, and I cherish those experiences. Ty you for the videos, stay safe !
Listen, I love Led Zeppelin, they are one of my favorite all time bands and Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorite all time songs but I have to tell you, he should have listened to the studio version first. Personally I really don't care for the live version and if I had heard it first I probably wouldn't have been into Zeppelin so much. It's a great version but they take too many liberties with the song, it's perfect the way it was originally recorded.
For a totally satisfying reaction to this song watch King KTF. To do genuine reactions you have to have a totally open mind and not comparing it to something you think is great.
The Legend of John Bonham, the greatest drummer ever. It is always a joy to listen to him and Jimmy Page just jam out there. John just keeps a rythmn going while Jimmy descends into his soul
this song and THE Eric C.'s song (tears in heaven) and Santana's guitarplay were the reason why my m8 and i (at an age of 18yr)were learning to play the guitar (and still doing it 25 yrs later)
Back when rock and roll was organic. Bands and music today sound so antiseptic and formulaic. Everything is 3 to 4 minutes. Back then songs could take 5, 8, 13, 21 minutes. Jethro Tull thick as a brick was an entire album. Back then there were guitar solos in just about every song. Drum solos, keyboard solos. Bands used a variety of instruments. Music was more musical.
I saw Robert Plant one time in my live in 1993 Parkpop The Hague, He still donned his long manes back than 😎 By the way, can I sell you a bridge to total freedom ?👀😜
I raised a teenager, I understand your side but I appreciate his honesty. "Dad you can lead a horse to water...". Just think of him with his kids trying to explain his music to them lol. Keep up the great work.
Hey, guys awesome reaction to the gods of rock, u can never lose with getting the Led out, if I'm not mistaken this is the "The Song Remains the same" Tour, it implies on the entities and the lifestyles one can gamble with. There is so much one can relate to this song as it really tells a story that can be very close to ur heart. I don't if you've heard of the new band that amplifies the sound and familiarities of Led Zepplin, the band name is Greta Van Fleet they are freaking awesome, they really keep it real and bring the spirit of the blues back to its original form that many bands of the '60s had brought to the music industry. Bands like The Who, Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, Cream, CCR and so many of yesteryear. Anyway here is a link to a song by Greta Von Fleet ua-cam.com/video/aJg4OJxp-co/v-deo.html
I absolutely love this song. Such beautiful story telling. THAT's what a lot of music is missing these days. Story telling. Plant's ability to tell a story along with the harmony in the music, the ultimate symbiotic relationship. My son is now three years old and asks me for stairway to heaven when we're in the car hahahaha. He loves Zeppelin.
Lol, ya ya, I know, they struggle sometimes to articulate their thoughts, I think the camera adds some stress. My daughter watched one of these back she did and said.."do I really say like that much!"
My sons are 19 and 18 and both listen to Led Zeppelin, my proudest moment was when my then 16 year old son pulled up to pick me up from work and he’s jamming Kashmir.
Good to see you teaching you're kids great music, I do this with my Girl all the time. She has a Record player in her room and cranks the Vinyl tunes. She loves all the old music hopefully she will carry it on when I'm gone onto her kids hopefully :-).
"I don't think any guy or girl my age would want to listen to this." - Music can be about music, or it can be about fitting in. Boy, maybe when you're older your focus will change to listening to what you want to listen to, and not what everyone else does ;)
It is one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) rock songs in history, but it never charted as a single until 2007. The band would not allow it to be trimmed down for a single release, so the only way to purchase it was to buy the full album. Once they finally released it digitally, people were finally able to purchase it as a single, and it finally made it on several single charts. And I think another good Zep song to review would be "Moby Dick". Most of their live videos highlight Plant and Page, but this one highlights Bonham, and shows what he could do with a set of drums.
Page's guitar is way too loud in this mix. If it's hard for Bonham's drums to cut through clearly, there's a problem. You should have introduced him to the studio version.
You're such a good dad to educate your son with the best music in rock, and to support him in his opinions. I loved, also, that you talked about bands that "didn't even have singers". I grew up in rock and roll in the '50s and '60s because my brother was a slammin' lead guitarist from the age of 13 (1961) in Seattle and his band didn't have a singer for a couple of years. You might look up the Sonics and the (Fabulous) Wailers to see what was happening in Seatown at the time. It was all about the instruments, and mostly the guitar. Then when Cream happened everybody in the band had to start singing (but you didn't have to have the chops of Robert Plant) - remember Hendrix our hometown boy wasn't that accomplished vocally. BTW, I just subscribed because I love this.
Good reaction, it is a slower, longer song and I think the studio version is better. Good Times Bad Times might have been a better introduction. Today's music choices, I believe, are somewhat limited to what major labels push. The formula for hits is more a science then an art form. Plus with Clear Channel owning 75% of all the radio stations in the U.S., the rotation is what drives the music choice. In the teen years your music choices are more about your peers then your parents. But introducing teens to different types of music that is not created by committee will stick somewhere in the brain, so keep on trucking. Have you hear Hu Wolf Totem? Mongolian metal - something really different that they might like, just for the novelty - ua-cam.com/video/jM8dCGIm6yc/v-deo.html
Thanks for the comment and info, unfortiintely the studio version would get blocked worldwide, so had to go with this live version. It's a good live version, but yes, studio on this song is great.
young generation's dopamine's levels are shot. the need greater and greater shock value to like something. no appreciation for subtlety, syncopation, or musicality
gar y . The is the dumbest thing I’ve read today. Ya can’t generalize an entire generation off of one person. Regardless of generation, good music is good music, it’s the way it’s always been and the way it will always be. There is just as much appreciation today for good music as there used to be, let’s not forget that with such great bands as zeppelin and the who and what not, just as manny shitty bands came out of that era. Now I can accept that kid doesn’t like the song, everyone has their opinion, I disagree with him that young people wouldn’t listen to this because I’m in my early 20s and I don’t remember a single party growing up where classic rock wasn’t played. However there is nothing different between the generation of today and those of generations past. There may be small differences with technology/our upbringings and that’s to be expected, but in the end we’re all the same when we are young.
@@vicromano1199 stop with the "you're generalization BS" This is very true, in all aspects of society. People have no attention spans, they can think beyond the next 5 mintues, essentially animals

Absolutely!

A young audience cannot fully appreciate Page's long-ass solo.
R. Toby Richards long-ass kinda gives it a negative appeal... however I do agree
I actually felt like Page stretching that solo out kinda took away from its epicness a little bit.
Not true. I’m 20 and i would listen to page soloing all day. I’ve got a lot of younger friends who listen to zeppelin or 70’s/80’s/90’s music too.
@@damnation1112 I once had the box set of the complete LZ. All albums plus unpublished works. SIgh. Having moved a dozen times I somehow lost it.
Wow. That hurts.
Thanks for the comment and for subbing. More coming from them for certain, just had to do Stairway as soon as I realized he didn't know it!
Legendary! Tell him to listen to the studio version a few times 😊 I loved seeing this live version though! 🤘
Ya, the studio version gets blocked worldwide, so ran with this one, but a really good live one at that with good sound quality too, sometimes that is hard to find. Thanks for watching.
@@GlitchintheMatrixMultiMedia Yeah I figured that would get blocked...great live version, yeah 😊
I saw Zepp in the 70's and just WOW!!!! But now I work at a collage with the young ones of today and a lot of them love Zepp!!
Work at at coll'a'ge huh?
An honest but musically ignorant opinion on the 17yr olds behalf.
He know nothing bout music 😂
Beautiful father and son time. Love seeing you introducing music of our time to the new generation.
They’d be too busy looking at their phones or tablets.
not really, it depends lol
Totally agreed. Blame Steve Jobs. Smartphone invention ruined the kids.
I once showed my mate at school one of my favorite musical performances (Richie Kotzen, Remember, Live in Sau Paulo).. he lasted 6 seconds before concluding it wasn't for him. Kids ey.
He is not a millennial. I am a millennial and i am on my way to be 40 years old.
ok boomer
Been listening to this since I was young, still one of my top favorite rock songs!
Led Zeppelin one of the greatest band and their music will be appreciated for centuries.
That's the one thing I liked about queen cause when they were asked what does the song mean and they say well its means what the listener wants it to mean
I’m 17 and this is my first time hearing Stairway to Heaven. 9.5/10
Sage Ōtsutsuki how lol
Listen to the studio version in my opinion it's better because the solo is long in the live versions
@@parhammhss4848 I'll check it out, thanks.
I think it's a great thing you exposing your kids to this, it gives them an idea where great music comes from. Keep rockin and keep jammin
I've probably heard hundreds of guitar solos, from multiple music genres, but I've never heard a solo quite like the one on this song. It's not the most technical, it's not the most accurate, but for me it's the best thing someone ever did on a guitar. Magic!
Jimmy Page The Legend
Absolutely! Thanks for watching.
Great comment, thanks!
I'm 25 my dad has 1000s of vinyl rock/ classic rock albums from the 70s, 80s and 90s. I grew up listening to these songs and they will always hold a special place in my heart for what they are and what the songs represent.
I feel so emotional listening to this song. It’s a true masterpiece. 🥇🎼🏆🎸🎸🎸🎸
The beer analogy was spot on, dad. 👍
Nice, thanks for that, was wondering how that would be received.
That shirt is amazing. Not enough Lost Boys merch out there.
Oh, man. Those 2 weeks in Rhodos, Greece back in the 70's. The memories still warm my heart
For someone who wouldn't listen to the song, his head was sure bobbing along all the way through.
I had the same reaction though to Zeppelin in general. It took a while for them to really grow on me, but hearing all their music and how diverse they are, I've come to love and appreciate them.
He ABSOLUTELY should have heard the studio version first. The impact would have been more pronounced.
Agreed, live versions of almost any song is the worst version to listen to.
The kid looks bored....hard to watch for those of us that have seen this concert.
Love your shirt! Yes...let's crank some Led Zeppelin forever!
One of the greatest guitar solos you will ever hear
It's the ADHD generation... it takes a certain level of maturity to lose yourself in a classic song like this. Give him 20 years...
man im 16 and i love any old music it can be rock n roll, heavy metal, rap, country if its good i'll love it. personally i listen a bit more to rap because i love the concept of rhymes methaphore syllables and etc. but believe me i know talent when i hear it and stairway to heaven is a legendary song.
I'm 14 and this is one of my favourite genres of music
I'm 23 with ADHD and this is one of my favorite songs ever. It's maybe not he's thing and that doesn't mean immaturity. Oh wait, you're a boomer.
ok boomer
This video is more of dad reacts while his son watches him thinking "alright enough already"
I would love to see his reaction to Bohemian Rhapsody, LOL!
Janetjrfan that boy don’t get any of it he looks like is it done yet he don’t get it
Janetjrfan everyone has heard bohemian rhapsody so he’d probably heard it ages back
Janetjrfan stairway to heaven is better
Everyone has heard Bohemian Rhapsody
Polyphonic has a great video on this song, analyzing it as a hero's journey. Really interesting take.
I'll have to check that out, thanks for the note.
His reaction is incredible! I love seeing how much he appreciate's the song.
Jeffrey Hinkel yes the dad, sorry wasn’t that clear.
It is nearly 3am here and i have this so cranked that I am surprised the neighbors havent called, LOUD is the only way to listen to Led Zep!
The Legend of John Bonham, the greatest drummer ever. It is always a joy to listen to him and Jimmy Page just jam out there. John just keeps a rythmn going while Jimmy descends into his soul
Plant has said the song is about Galadriel... from Tolkien.
Sauce?
Make listen to your daughter and son Greta Van Fleet, like Highway Tune and When the curtains falls!
I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestion.
Greta is crap Zeppelin lite
The warning is the real deal i know you have listened to some already
@@allensaunders449 the real thing is that you have a taste and square thinking.
@@allensaunders449 put aside that kind of criticism because talent has it whether you like it or not. Greetings.
this song and THE Eric C.'s song (tears in heaven) and Santana's guitarplay were the reason why my m8 and i (at an age of 18yr)were learning to play the guitar (and still doing it 25 yrs later)
Long live Led Zep - their music is timeless ...
They remain one of The Greatest Rock Bands of All Time !!
I actually had a conversation today with him about that and shorter songs today, etc., it will come out next week on a Pink Floyd song we did.
Loved the beer analogy. Great job by both of you.
Lol, thought that one up on the spot, thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info, the suggestions and the link, more to come very soon!
You have to remember that most of the time people who listen to this song were very stoned and it was very easy to listen to then
Lol, good point.
Watched them live 1972. Just brilliant
I would recommend Time by Pink Floyd or Babba O'Reiley by The Who if you are looking for more tunes to get reactions to.
I have a Pink Floyd coming out very soon.
Definitely The Who!!! Baba O'Riley or Behind Blue Eyes.
Introduce him to Free bird live in knebworth
Wow...! Great live version indeed!
One of my favorites!!!!
So heartbreaking hearing his say, kids hus age wouldn't like this music
after saying "like" 500 times, I was quite shocked that actually,...... he didnt like it !! hehe
Boy, maybe when you're older your focus will change to listening to what you want to listen to, and not what everyone else does ;)
Could you please do a reaction with your son to "Many of Horror" by Biffy Clyro? Thanks 🤗
Whenever I listen to this version I have chills.
40 yrs as the best song off all times I'm British and i will never doubt that it is and will be forever be incredible.
That's because music today is so bad but that's what today's youth is used to.
Ya, I had a conversation about that today in fact, it will come out on another video soon about todays music compared to classic rock.
Most known riff in history is Smoke on the Water, I think
Nice music fact!!
Or Layla, Clapton.
@@GlitchintheMatrixMultiMedia Hotel California
Mainake Maina Most stolen riff you mean? ;)
The fundamentals of rock! Thank you!
Robert Rouse ..I don’t think it would have mattered quite honestly
Now that you've watched this, you and your son should check out Heart's rendition of it at the Kennedy Center Led Zepplin tribute.
Oh ya, nice call out, I do know Heart does a lot of Zeppelin covers.
I totally love that the totally talented and Iconic artists from the 70's and 80's are being revisited and rediscovered! My god its about time....
Thanks so much!
Times may have changed but real music like this is timeless and tons if new kids are loving this now due to reactions now..epic
