Metallica has some of the best ballads to introduce to someone to the rock scene without freaking them out with the imagery or the over the top riffs and lyrics. Have you considered the Unforgiven trilogy?
you should have done their music video for this song. It sounds better then this live version though it was great. you have to have her react to sandman I love that song
Yep, I have to agree with this. First time viewers have a hard time appreciating the long intros of the live shows. Especially the younger crowd since a lot of them have the attention span of a flea. She had a bored look on her face during the guitar solo.
Copyrights law has provisions related to reactions and commentary. Also, just because it is live doesnt change the fact that the material is copyrighted... it just means youtube has a harder time with its automatic policing of content.
3:33 is when the right song starts! Funny fact: Metallica was recording the original album version of the song with addition of the live orchestra directed by Michael Kamen (R.I.P. Michael), and on the higher E key.

I saw Metallica in 97 at the target center. I think I was like 13, but it was awesome and I couldn't hear for like a day after. One of the best live performances I've seen for sure. Love the reaction!
I think that she would dig "Oblivion" by Mastodon. The song is very mellow and sad (some would even say psychedelic), yet not overly heavy. It has an amazing, melodic chorus, in fact one of my favourite choruses of all time.
"Now - I - will - tell - you - what I wanted to... 50,000 tears I've cried... Watch-ing - my - dad's - old - nos-talgia - play-list... Just when I, thought we'd reached the bottom... Aaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyhhhhhhhhhh... DIEEEEEEEEED.... AGAAAAIN I'm BOOORED AS HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLL..."
Studio-Version would be so different....there would be also a string section to hear, which is not part of live concerts. Only the version of the "S&M" [Symphony & MetallicA] -- live concerts which were played with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra would sound like the studio-version.
Facts about this song: 1. "Nothing Else Matters", as well as the other songs from them self-titled album (also known as The Black Album) have the long building-up intros, like "Enter Sandman" or "The Unforgiven". 2. All guitar parts for the album version were recording by only lead vocalist James Hetfield. 3. On the original one, you have: James Hetfield, Jason Newsted, Lars Ulrich, and the live orchestra directed by Michael Kamen.
I have known quite a few people that didn't care for Metallica until I played Enter The Sandman, and after hearing that song they wanted to hear all the rest of Metallica's music and they loved it all, even to this day. Play her Enter The Sandman.
Great to expose current generation to what is in many opinions the greatest metal band of all time. Although this version had kirks solo unrelated to the song and some non studio versions added to the live performance again in my opinion should be appreciated after the studio version. This way you can see the difference and how creative Metallica is live. I’ve been to 19 concerts in my life time and I have never seen a band live that literally sounds like one voice singing every song on the set list. No one ever sits down when Metallica is on stage. Thanks for the video I was curious how new gens would receive such a classic song and band. Keep the Metallica push. |,,|
If she likes the crowds you should do one of the Metallica songs from their 1991 live show in Moscow; I'd vote for Fade to Black or Creeping Death from that concert.
Me personally I feel like when they play this song it’s almost like a tribute to the late great Cliff Burton their former bass player that tragically passed away way too young
Should have gone with the studio version with this song. The studio version is the first song on the playlist for when I rock my little girl to sleep. And she ALWAYS reminds me to start playing our playlist ☺. I say "our playlist" because I sent my wife the playlist a couple of weeks ago when I was at work, and she was trying to get her to take a nap and wanted to know what songs I play for her, and as soon as it started playing, my little girl started going "No, no, no, no, no!", lol.
