"Stairway to Heaven" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released in late 1971. It was composed by the band's guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant for their untitled fourth studio album. The song is often regarded as one of the greatest and most iconic rock songs of all time.
jimmy page is a top 3
This is the best band in history! Do more live performances!!
Best performances are live at MSG.
The most iconic song in rock history. Greatest band EVER.
All, genius musicians and so tight, these complex songs could have fallen into chaos, with a lesser band. Passion, no genre, they do it all.
Jazz, blues, Celtic folk, funk and of course, rock and roll.
This was an extended version of the original, but that's a good thing, because you got to listen to the incomparable Jimmy Page on the guitar!!! One of the best!
amazing performance!
THE best!
This is considered their most famous song. But they have so many others. In 2012 Ann & Nancy Wilson from "Heart" performed at the Kennedy Center Honors in a tribute to Led Zeppelin doing their classic song "Stairway To Heaven". You may want to check that out sometime.
I truly believe only Ann Wilson could have pulled that off.
That version absolutely gives me chills every time I hear it. Ann Wilson was like 62 or 63 when she did it and sang like a god that descended form the heavens. With Bonham's son playing the drums. It's enough to make a grown man cry.
The song originated in 1970 when Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were spending time at Bron-Yr-Aur, a remote cottage in Wales, following Led Zeppelin's fifth American concert tour. ... Page always kept a cassette recorder around, and the idea for "Stairway to Heaven" came together from bits of taped music.
Page once said in a interview that Plant wrote 80% of the song in about 20 minutes. Sitting against a wall in the studio.
@@hunting4one Robert wrote the lyrics. Not the music.
This is a classic, just beautiful, glad you reacted to it!
i loved it!
Thank you for doing this live version from Madison Square Garden instead of the studio version. Jimmy Page's live solo here is longer and much more exciting than the very short solo on the studio album.
When Robert Plant introduces this song, he’s says it’s a song of hope. I think thats true. It talked of a woman who thinks she can buy her way into heaven, rather than be the person she should be. Zeppelin never explained the full meaning, saying it’s up to the listener.
Robert has often said he can't stand the song anymore and he has no clue what it's supposed to mean. Remember, everybody was high back then. It means whatever the individual listening to it interprets it to mean to them. In the end, just listen and enjoy their talent❣️
I’m pretty sure Jimmy page said listeners often put more meaning into this song than they did. Jimmy page showed up to the session with the music written and Robert Plant went off into a corner and wrote the lyrics very quickly. To this day he regrets the part about a bustle in your hedgerow. He said that was nonsense. In other words this song doesn’t have much meaning from what I’ve heard but that doesn’t make it any less epic IMO.
Depending on who you ask you will get different answers as to the meaning of this song. Some say drugs, some say hope, some say it is about materialism and greed. This is art so; you can interpret it any way you like.
people have been debating the meaning of this song for 50 years. Plant used to introduce this in concerts by saying "this is a song of hope" other than that the band has remained quiet.
now you so totally need to see 'Heart' - Stairway to Heaven (Live at Kennedy Center Honors) '
Incredible performance. You really should do the dazed and confused from the same gig. Msg 73. It's 29 minutes of pure fucking genius!!! Including a haunting cello bow solo yes really. That 1 is simply Jimmy page Unleashed!!!! And he couldn't do what he did with any other band
P.s. while you were blown away by the guitarist and lead singer, just bear in mind the guy on keyboards was also playing bass at the same time with his feet and the drummer was an awesome boss with the sticks too. Welcome to the Led Zep fan dom
Check out Led Zeppelin "Kashmir" Live at Celebration Day Concert
I love this as I grew up on this stuff... more....
Best guitar solo of all time.
epic live zep. jimmy page what can i say.. to this day and im 63 now this song still moves me..
Since i Been Loving You from this same concert is worth When you ready do The song Remains the Same and Rain Song together and you will be one of us and know true greatness
Adam for your next Led Zep reaction do the video of Kashmir Live from Knebworth 1979. It’s the best drumming you will ever see.
Yes that and Achillies Last Stand from the same concert...Bonzo is unbelievable!
Let's face it. Anything they did live was AMAZING.
Always blows me away to hear how many people have never heard this song. Enjoy brother, this is just the tip....best band EVER 😁
I so love that you enjoyed Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin! I grew up listening to them, but it is so cool to see another generation introduced to the greatness of their music. I can tell that you appreciated everything about this performance. So happy that you like them. I found you thru your Home Free reactions but this one was amazing too! Great reaction!
When WE all know what's about to happen, but you don't...our smile just gets bigger and bigger.
One of the best rock guitarists of all time
Great reaction! San Diego sends love.
Its a beautiul old song ,sound so sad 💕💞
I am late to the party. I was there at the concert. Met my wife on this trip to the big apple, still married for life.
Best thing to do is to start with song 1 from the first album and work your way through each album song by song. Welcome down the rabbit hole.
When you find out how old they were when they wrote and played these songs, your mind will be blown. This band are legends.
What a voice...what a package! Wouldn't sweat the lyrics on first listen!
Great reaction! Try their song, Dazed and Confused.
The vocals, the instrumentals were insane!!
Love you Adam 💖😘
Get the Led out❤❤❤❤❤❤
They are fan freakin tastic GOAT!!!!!
Greatest Ever. ❤❤❤
It is a song of hope
You should watch "Heart" - that paid Tribute to Led Zeppelin .... that was very Haunting!! This was a 70's tune! the song speeds up....!
I’ve seen many interviews with Robert Plant. He describes STH as an English folk tune and the meaning is all ears of the listener. He said it’s the best he could do coming from a 20 year old !!!! I’d say he did damn good
Think this guitar solo was good ? Try the entire 26 minutes of Dazed and Confused from this same concert. Must be viewed in it's entirety to catch the explosive guitar soloing towards the end. Also try Whole Lotta Love from this concert.
Adam! Keep your eyes up!
You just put on headphones roll a joint and just listen it will mean what you want it to mean much love from Marion in Scotland
Since going solo, Robert Plant's has gotten together with Country music legend Alison Krauss.
Check out Zeppelin Kashmir live at Celebration Day.
This concert was recorded at MSG in 1973 and released as a film in 1976, "The Song Remains The Same", catch the entire concert here, ua-cam.com/video/pDg721WdilM/v-deo.html
The meaning is what you make of it for yourself! The GOATS!
You should definitely react to Heart covering this sing at the Kennedy Center Honors for Led Zeppelin with the band in attendance. Epic!
Wish you would have grown up in the 70’s with my group!
I was a teen in the 70s...best time of my life!
And the drums. Listen to the drummer. They were all great.
Go Bonzo!!!
Just subscribed Zeppelin is hands down the GOAT !!!!! Keep Zep coming you’ll have a strong following!!!!!
Ok. If you’re planning on going down the Zeppelin worm hole I have very important advice. You’re going to have a ton of people suggesting live versions. It’s imperative to listen to the studio version of a song before seeing the live one. Please keep this in mind.
If you like guitar solo's, you should listen to Gary Moore, Parisienne Walkays
The live version of "Achilles Last Stand" from Knebworth in 1979. Jimmy Page, who was the band's guitarist and producer, considers this song to be their best. His opinion outweighs mine, but I agree. I believe that concert was one of their last performances before drummer John Bonham died in 1980 (by drinking 40 shots of vodka). At that time, Page was battling heroin addiction, which makes his playing seem even more amazing.
actually my understanding is their favorite and most proud of Kashmir.
@@christopherone1 I might have heard Robert Plant say that about "Kashmir." They're both amazing songs.
Yes....he is likely very high....😆 their concerts were like foggy.....lol
Robert Plant who wrote it can't remember what it's about now so I wouldn't worry too much over the lyrics. He says it means whatever people want it to and that it's a song of hope. I think it's about being true to oneself and having some spiritual side and not falling for the idea that material possessions are the be all and end all of life. Maybe it's also a warning not to fall for shallow materialistic girlfriends, and it's also about how people can easily delude themselves.
A lot of their songs are based on myths and legends, with some Tolkien thrown in for good measure.
Do the cover by heart. Live at the Kennedy Awards
Here is Jimmy !
Adam ,already knowing you are a big hockey fan and soon you will be a big Led Zep fan. No better sport than hockey and no better band than the Mighty Led Zep.
Mmmm...Just amazing, also great in concert...Wow, takes me back to an awesome time...Plant believes the power of the song lies in its “abstraction.” Depending on what day it is. One theory was that the lyrics echo the “The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen,” a story of two lovers told in the appendix of The Lord of the Rings. The band loved the books. Another crazy one was, it offered a satanic message when played in reverse, and why certain wording were used. Nether true by the way, lol...Thanx for great reaction, Peace
I believe that is the best version of this song available to listen to unbelievably brilliant and beautiful. Greatest Rock band EVER. Try Kashmir it’s the greatest song ever written and Performed
For me, this song is about redemption and salvation when you compare the analogies to scripture. I've heard this song since it came out and it means more to me now than ever.
Please do No Quarter by Led Zeppelin
You know, I never really try to figure out what a song is about. If comes to me then great. But what is more important is that I enjoy it. It could be about a haircut. Doesn't matter.
Please read about jimmy page start as he found abandoned guitar at age 11 in basement flat his parents rented in London. Old 1937 just laying in cold basement. Taught himself
You should definately listen to the live version of SOOTHSAYER by BUCKETHEAD. He isn't a guitar player, He's the guitar god. Would love to see you flip over that!
This is brilliant musicians, our parents called it “ noise” and evil.
it doesnt matter who you ask everyone will have a different meaning to this song i have always thought it was telling people to lay off the drugs take another path because there was a lot of people over dosing back when this song was put out there still is though
For their best piece in my opinion try listening to another performance from the same show at Madison Square Garden. It's called Dazed and Confused and is 28 mins of pure genius. And please those who know do not spoil this for him.
#adamreacts 2 suggestions for you, if you like guitars. 1st is Stevie Ray Vaughn (pronounced Vawn), VooDoo Child or Texas Flood to start then the other. He is easily one if the greatest guitarists of all time, unfortunately he was killed in a plane crash in 1985 I believe. Next is a guy that has a channel here on UA-cam, he goes by TheDooo. He goes on Omegle and plays guitar for random people, he can listen to a song he doesn't know and then play it. He is super talented but never shows his face. Please do yourself a favor and look into both of these guys. Love the vids.
Classic song try KID ROCK AND CHERYL. CROW song PICTURE
Serious question Where have you been? How could this be your first time hearing this song?
Robert usually introduced it as a song of hope.
I see it as a greedy woman who thinks she buy anything, has time to change, but in the end she doesn't learn.
Whiskey Lullaby, Brad Paisley. Official video, please.
Dude, you were talking when it’s was jimmys turn to rif
I think you would love Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues live version 💙
ua-cam.com/video/MjUqfRrWwcM/v-deo.html
Stick with the 1973 Garden concert. It’s about how materialism will not get you to heaven! The GOATS!
Jimmi Page is a God for rock
Big no no to stop during solo
It's one of those songs that it sort of means whatever you want it to me. The general idea though is it's about a rich woman that thinks she can buy her way into heaven. But as I said, it means different things to different people. By the way, this is the most popular song in rock history. I personally don't think it's their best song by far. I like it and would give it a solid 8.5. I actually like about 15 songs by them better than this one but thats just me.
On my UA-cam channel there's a man who is writing his Stairway to Heaven with signs on the sun with words what have new meaning and the Moon makes me wonder with rings of Sun's through the screen with the words of those who stand looking with a rock and a roll and I'm writing my stairway to Heaven
If you take the time to play the lyrics version it will make more since to you.
Have you reacted to any Stevie ray vaughn?
Jimmy page look up his bio on yt
depession, found god. stairway to heavn is becoming your best or else. also yes very high.
8.4/10
I never knew what it meant in the 70s, and I still don’t….
You gotta go under your mind with Zeppelin and there are only two ways to unlock the shackles of the conscious mind in it's deliberate design, one by way of what is loosely called psychedelics and the other by way of 30 years of meditation. Only under one of either of these circumstances is it possible for a human mind to realise certain things, such is the deliberate design of restriction we all find ourselves born under. Good vid liked it but you are probably a Graphic Designer or some shit by now and none of this matters just had to necro this, cheers.
It's Jimmy Page ffs he can play anything 😁
I also thought Robert Plant was high when I first saw this but he is always expressive with his hands. I don't know that he could have sung this so well if he was too high-lol
No one knows the meaning of this song, not even Robert.
Find your own meaning is the best answer.
I don’t believe it has any
“real meaning”
any more than the Mona Lisa has a
“real meaning”
Another amazing live guitar solo is Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" from their 1994 Pulse concert. David Gilmore basically 'sings' through his guitar for several minutes. It's transcendent.
No no no.. it's not. You have heard this before and if you haven't we will never speak again. Okay. Have a swell evening
hahahah love me
Wonder how long you could stay away from Zep. Get ready!
JIMMY OAGE BEST EVER
You don’t think about led zeppelin’s music, you just feel it and interpret it however you want. And before you ask yes I am high while writing this
As for a reaction recommendation “Band: Pearl Jam song:Black(live)-MTV UNPLUGGED”
Read John 10:1 in the King James Bible. There is only one path to Heaven. There's only 2 paths you can go by. By way of Christ or the devil. That's pretty much what the song is saying.
The singer, Robert Plant was actually sick during this live performance...you can hear it in his voice, which is still amazing!!
what are you even talking about?
@@christopherone1 Robert Plant was had a cold...you can hear the cracks in his voice, but he still sounded amazing!
@@trishahamilton5880 again...ah NO. he did not have a cold during MSG concerts. seriously where did you make this stuff up from? It's a live performance, duh..they played night after night for sometimes over 3.5 hours...he also was a heavy smoker.
@@christopherone1 Ok...just something I had heard. No reason to attack me about it.
