Tears.... that means you're alive... If this doesn't touch your soul, then just get out... Paul Simon gave this his blessing. And when he goes full metal voice it's just epic..😁
I agree with almost every comment here. It's true because I've seen it happen over and over, when people hear David sing, they are mesmerized! when I heard David sing this song, I fell in love with him within 30 seconds
And I'm even more in love with him 6 months later!! There's something so commanding about him, his power and charisma force people to open up their minds and hearts to the message he's delivering! Disturbed is 2nd to none!!
After this performance, Paul Simon himself messaged David and said "It's your song now." I can't imagine higher praise than that. Disturbed did for this song what Johnny Cash did for Nine Inch Nail's "Hurt."
Absolutely true! You could actually FEEL Johnny Cash's actual and personal 'Hurt' when he sang it. Have you listened to David singing 'Hold On To Memories'? The official edition may be a be 'off putting' to some but I believe it blends with the lyrics quite well.
I absolutely agree. I think Sounds was written for David.. He explained it's true meaning through his performance.. Just like Johnny did for Hurt. I didn't much like the Nin version.. For me, they belittled what they were singing about... There's so much more to music than just singing or playing an instrument etc... There HAS to be emotion invested in it, you have to pass that on through the music, otherwise it's just an empty vessel. Like a lot of the music has become these days.. A means to make money.. Me personally? I like to connect with, and feel the music.. With Johnny, His investment in that song was pure. he's telling a story of his experience with it..
No, Paul did not message him and say that "It's your song now". So many people spreading this misinformation. Paul sent this "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.” To which David replied back “I am honored beyond words. We only hoped to pay homage and honor the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us, and we are eternally grateful.”
@@JuanHughJorgan I watched an interview with David where he said that is exactly what Paul said to him. And since he was the one who actually conversed with him, I'll take his account over yours any day.

I'm a 67yr old man (with a manly beard), walking through HomeDepot, getting materials for an electrical job...and I'm trying to hold back the flood of tears from flowing. Such a very thoughtful andl beautiful rendering of this song.
The studio performance is so much more intense. If you enjoyed this, you should watch that version along with the music video. You can hear so much more of what's going on in his voice and it hits you even more. I'm willing to bet you would really enjoy that one too.
Having listened to the studio version first and then seeing this performance, I LOVE how much he really dug into the "praaaaayyyed" at 4:56 - It almost felt like fanservice to fans of the studio version.
The band he's in is metal, but David is a classically trained opera singer. His ability to go between clear vocals and the grit without hurting his voice is something special. This performance is something that people should never forget. It's truly special. The tears start to fall because of the lyrics of the song, there is something about the emotion he throws into the 2nd half of the performance with the grit that just speaks to your soul.
He began young as classically trained ..and he uses that to completely bring the song..the message to a new life for a new time. He is absolutely 💯 amazing. I have been listening to Disturbed since they came out..im older(46) I'm a biker ..a father.. this cover is the most prevalent showcase of David's mastery of vocals.. he is angel & demon in one and I can never hear it enough..goosebumps every single time..and it's been hundreds
His voice has the ability to not only bring a song to life, but he makes you FEEL the lyrics. Almost like he his begging you to listen and its an overwhelming thing so it touches you to the core. His voice plays beautiful to this version.
I do have a metal band recommendation, or rather symphonic metal, which is an amazing genre of mixing metal music with elements of orchestral classical music together. Nightwish - Ghost Love Score live at Waken 2013. Just to warn you if you do the Nightwish army will decend upon you, lol! They are a bunch of nice but very passionate fans
Too late. ;) The army has arrived and look to be about 90% of the comments here. :D Everyone's suggesting Ghost Love Score @ Wacken 2013 (as they should), but I'd also add The Phantom of the Opera (Marko & Tarja) - another brilliant performance that shouldn't be forgotten.
From the simple crescendo of the orchestra to the different styles of voicing and use of his skilled voice the fact this song has soo many elements that were assembled perfectly... with a voice on loan from God this has to be one of the finest covers ever created... I think more people have covered Disturbed-The Sound of Silence than Simon and whats his name LOL... very nice insights and thanks for the thoughtful review. see you soon as you tube algorithms allow... lol (new sub...)
There's a moment in this song, a little different for everyone, but a moment where you have stopped listening to it and have begun to experience it. Incredible vocals.
It took a classically trained voice to pull this off, plus an understanding of the angst, loneliness and anger the lyrics demand of its expression. It doesn't get much better than this.
The pan-out at the end of the song was amazingly well-timed! It did a constant zoom-out, yet hit all the key framings just as they were needed. The first tampini was fully in pic just as it was hit, the second tampini was in pic just as it was hit. The left guitar just got in frame for his last lick. And the zooming ended the very moment the song ended into an epic end framing. That is a cinematography feat well beyond what you would normally see on TV.
The production values of this performance are amazing! Great voice, great song, great lyrics, great sound engineers and on and on. And live to boot?! Instant fan of the vocalist for sure. kudos to all involved.
Late to the party. I grew up with the music from the 60s and 70s thanks to my parents. I am horrible listening and hearing lyrics to songs. Simon and Garfunkel have wrote some of the greatest songs in the 20th century. I love the sound and harmonies from them. Disturbs version of sound of silence actually let me hear and understand the lyrics. The way they put this together and just spread what this song is all about is amazing. It is my dad's favorite song and he loves the original song.
Ms. Serene, love your reaction to this amazing rendition of S & G's original hit. This song has special meaning to me because the first time I heard it, I was on my way to the hospital to see my mother, who the doctors had informed us 2 hours earlier, had 3-6 months to live... That was over 6 years ago. I can't listen to it without tears welling up... I love this version! I would love to see your reaction and your thoughts on Shinedown's, "Simple Man".
When Mr. David Draiman sings, that is when your ears sit up and beg you to hear more, he has the kind of voice that creeps up on you, and that's when the tears start. David has this special touch in his voice. You hear the song and you feel every note that he is singing, it buries itself into your brain in a kind way, it touches the maternal/paternal feelings that you have for a new-born baby in your head. It's a voice that you love or hate. I was around when Simon and Garfunkel first sang this song way back in 1965 when I was 14, I am now 4 months away from my 71st birthday, what can I say, I am a music lover, I appreciate good music, I listen to all things music, from Mozart to Adele, Vivaldi to Status Quo, my record collection starts in the 1940's and heads up into the 2010's.
I wish I could go back in time and listen to this song for the first time. When I first heard it, I was driving in the car with the radio down, and I just wish I could have given myself the experience that this song deserves. I love watching people like yourself, Serene, listening to this for that precious first time.
The original was a warning. This version seemed more of a condemnation. I think this arrangement gave the lyrics the gravity that the original couldn't as a folk song.
He captures the lyrics....When a artist with his talent manage to connect to the emotions a writer intended.....this is what happens. It hits you in a special place.
The clarity of the singing is unmatched anywhere in rock music. The build and impact of the music and lyrics is in such amazing sync that if you’re paying attention at all, you can’t help but be affected.
The "Gritty" part of his voice is how David normally sings. "Down With the Sickness" is a song you should listen to. Make sure you hear the whole thing, some versions edit out a key part of the song.
Thank you, I have seen quite a few reaction videos of this song but "YOU" are the first one I have seen truely give emotion to the lyrics. I appreciate and understand you wiping tears from your eyes

He was also pissed backstage after cuz they added autotune without telling him even though he doesn't need it.
I’ve seen version like bajillion times now. You can just look at him and see how unwell he is. Poor guy,
I agree with almost every comment here.
After this performance, Paul Simon himself messaged David and said "It's your song now."
I can't imagine higher praise than that.
@@riffgroove It's easier to just do your research, instead of believing what you want just because. Link to video source for proof? I'll wait. What I posted is the entire email between the two and it was on Disturb's website.
It's amazing watching people who have never heard Disturbed before react to David's voice. Still get chills listening to this song.
One thing I absolutely adore about the live version is the very end when he holds "soooooooouuuuuuuuund..." Then pauses and let's that echo hit... Man it's perfect.
Best live performance i have ever heard. His voice is soothingly powerful.
You should do a reaction to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (live at Wacken 2013).
You will find out that not every metal subgenre is just loud mess :)
(warning: your mind might be blown)
Indeed!
Also Nightwish army will probably storm your channel :-D
(Don't worry, they are very nice people)
@@TomicaCZ yes we will!
For shore. NW A spain
What a song .I cried when i listened to his emotions. i subscribed to your channel today 👍
If this song doesn't make you feel it and move you to tears then you don't understand the true power of music.
I'm a 67yr old man (with a manly beard), walking through HomeDepot, getting materials for an electrical job...and I'm trying to hold back the flood of tears from flowing. Such a very thoughtful andl beautiful rendering of this song.
One of the most beautiful, powerful, and amazing performances of a song I've ever listened to.
I get chills when he rolls up in his register on the “songs.....that voices......never share”
Jinjer-Pisces would be a great follow up to this reaction. Also if what they are all about you need to do “Down with the sickness”
Simon and Garfunkel: We cant encourage people enough with this song.
David Draiman : Hold my beer...
I like when they say how beautiful his voice is in the middle of the song. I say to myself wait till the end. You ain’t heard nothin yet.
David is a trained Cantor and has a massive range. He could do any type of music he wanted.
His voice has the ability to not only bring a song to life, but he makes you FEEL the lyrics. Almost like he his begging you to listen and its an overwhelming thing so it touches you to the core. His voice plays beautiful to this version.
I wonder if she already has reacted to Floor and/or Nightwish. If not I don't think it will take long before anyone will bring it up.... :P
That grit conveys passion, it makes it sound like there is something so massive trying to get out that his voice can barely contain it.
Everyone's suggesting Ghost Love Score @ Wacken 2013 (as they should), but I'd also add The Phantom of the Opera (Marko & Tarja) - another brilliant performance that shouldn't be forgotten.
@@michaelm.1947 Did the army go for a preemptive strike this time then? Lol!
I'm 66 years old and it made me cry when I heard it. It happens every time.
Try reacting to Disturbed "Hold on to Memories" and "The Light," and “Down with the Sickness” all are amazing and a vastly different side of the band.
Or Disturbed's cover of Land of Confusion by Genesis.
Listen to the song “Overburden” off the the Ten Thousand Fist album. Sooo goood!,
best cover version in the history of cover versions :)
Simon and Garfunkel, my friend 😊
I can't think of a performance that brings so many to tears. It kind of sneaks up on people with the balance of beauty and grit..
You might enjoy Jinjer's Pisces (the live session). Do not read any reviews of their music first.
There's a moment in this song, a little different for everyone, but a moment where you have stopped listening to it and have begun to experience it. Incredible vocals.
I recommend Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt if you're into powerful songs.
Omg yes. Cried soooo many times listening to that and the video is so powerful. Another tear-jerker is Constance by Spiritbox.
It took a classically trained voice to pull this off, plus an understanding of the angst, loneliness and anger the lyrics demand of its expression. It doesn't get much better than this.
Disturbed has another song ... that demonstrates their softer side. Very touching song... please listen to Disturbed - Hold On to Memories
Also "Darkness" from the Believe album
Absolutely!
Falling in reverse - The drug in me is reimagined. LANDMVRKS - Paralysed.
Have you already watched You should do a reaction to Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (live at Wacken 2013)? I think you will love it.
I wish I could go back in time and listen to this song for the first time. When I first heard it, I was driving in the car with the radio down, and I just wish I could have given myself the experience that this song deserves. I love watching people like yourself, Serene, listening to this for that precious first time.
He sings this song like every word is "VITAL" that we hear and comprehend it.
I will add, the official video of this is much more effective. 👍
Very cool HAT 🤠 David arranges and produces everything
The original was a warning. This version seemed more of a condemnation. I think this arrangement gave the lyrics the gravity that the original couldn't as a folk song.
He captures the lyrics....When a artist with his talent manage to connect to the emotions a writer intended.....this is what happens. It hits you in a special place.
I'm sure you get it a lot, but please react to Jinjer- Pisces (live session)
And yeah, important to do the live session 👍
One of the most reacted-to videos on YT.
I cry everyone I see or hear David perform this!! His voice is absolutely beautiful and moving!
NIGHTWISH GHOST LOVE SCORE WACKEN 2013. Enough said! 😏
The clarity of the singing is unmatched anywhere in rock music. The build and impact of the music and lyrics is in such amazing sync that if you’re paying attention at all, you can’t help but be affected.
If you want another very intelligent cover, then look for Shallow done by Floor Jansen. Let's just says she does something Lady Gaga does not.
The duet with Tim Akkerman is even better imho.
I cry every single time I watch him sing this song. He. Is. Amazing.

Today is the day. Yes...tears...that's the stuff.
Never subscribed to a channel ever before.
Yes...the tears. That's what makes me want to come back...authenticity. Thank you for being yourself! 🤗
you should react to Unleash the Archers, their lead singer Brittany Slayes is amazing.
Your reaction is spot on, I've watched this probably 100 times and I still get chills and emotional
Here a liddel pease Floor Jansen Alone when you like this then listen to Nightwish Ghost love Score
Disturbed gave the lyrics the gravitas it deserved and delivered it with emotional purity, which is why this rendition is so moving
He's a classically trained singer. That's why he has such control and diverse.
I absolutely love that people have a physical reaction to this song. You just don't see that very often..except to this song
I’ve watched this four different times , in a short time. Tears, tears 😢 So beautiful
