Paul Simon said it was Disturbed's song now, which is one h3ll of a complement from the original. Warning = Simon and Garfunkel Told you so = Disturbed
@philliplocey9451 is not a lie. When they do a wide shot of him, you can tell he is sitting down with his legs up. Or do you think his hips are just that wide?
@derrickramsburg6084 It's tougher to tell in this video, but in the original, when he sings "I turned my collar to the cold and damp" you can very cleary see the chair.
I was there in row 2 3rd seat from the right it was awesome. He was absolutely sick with flu and he still was by far the best orchestral performance I’ve been to
If no one has said it yet, David Draiman (the lead singer of Disturbed, and the man featured here) was trained as a Jewish Temple Cantor as a child. A Cantor being the person who calls the faithful to the temple for prayer, and leads them in that prayer. Also, his father and grandfather are/were Jewish Temple Cantors. It's a tradition at least 1,000 years older than "classically trained" singers.

The best description I've heard of this is that the original by Simon and Garfunkel was the warning. This version is the anger that the warning wasn't heeded. No matter how many times I hear this version, I always get a bit emotional.
Exactly, as I am in my 70's I remember when the original came out. We hippies felt like the song spoke to the frustration of our generation. The people were watching the "boob tube" and we wanted to discuss war, racism, hate and division. David's performance mirrors our thoughts in this generation, we don't speak to each other except through text. People "talking without speaking, hearing without listening." Our frustration continues, however for the first time in a long time we have HOPE! In Kamala Harris. 💙
One of the best covers to a song ever done. Right up there with Whitney Houston’s cover of Dolly Parton’s I will always love you, Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails, Tina Turners cover of Proud Mary by John Fogerty (Creedance Clearwater Revival), and Teddy Swims cover of I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt. Honorable mention to: Sinéad O’Connor’s cover of Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince, and Bad Wolves’ cover of Zombie by The Cranberries.
I’ve listened to this performance countless times from the Conan O’Brian show and still have not been able to convince myself that there is an adjective that properly fits the awesome greatness of this presentation.

This has to be one of the top 10 greatest live covers of any song ever. The control he has over the highs and lows and most especially when does that intentional vocal fry is insane. As a heavy rock singer he is known for that but still so impressive.
honestly, my favorite song by Disturbed, the first song where I took note of David Draiman's voice, and in my opinion a severely under rated song, 10 Thousand Fists
Saw disturbed in concert back in 2019 and they performed this song, that moment will stick with me for the rest of my life. It’s needless to say but it was AMAZING.
Compared to the original version, I think David’s much lower voice, the accompanying orchestra and the rock-vocalist distortion he adds to his delivery all combine for such a truly dramatic rendition.
Absolutely amazing performance and LIVE! WOW. I always get emotional when I hear this, especially this live video. What a beautiful cover, extraordinary voice. So many goosebumps and tears... Simply amazing

There are no words except maybe stunning that describe this. I'm a 73 year old chrome haired geezer who like many out here grew up in late 50s, 60s and the explosion of music in the 70s. We were 100% rock n rollers in our 20s, 30s and 40s. Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Stones, Doobie Brothers, Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd. We remember Simon and Garfunkel when their music hit the streets in 1965. From all that music, there has only been two covers/tributes I've heard that reach the original version or exceed it. This version of "Sound of Silence" and Nightwish with Marko Hietala singing a tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" from the End of an Era concert in 2005. Both are simply jaw dropping.
Disturbed did here to the original what John Farnham did to “Help” by the Beatles in the 80’s, took a great, well loved song and against all odds improved on the original to an outstanding degree.
You don't expect that from a band that is actually known for hitting harder tones with their music. I was also totally overwhelmed by this cover version for the first time
In taking a quick peek at the comments, I didn't see anyone mention one of the more amazing notes to this performance. David almost canceled because he was *sick* that day. I grew up with & truly love the original song, but Disturbed's cover became my favorite version from the first time I heard it.
Since you liked this version, you would probably enjoy Henk Port's cover of this version of The Sound of Silence in the show Beste Zangers (best singers). Henk is a life long opera singer.
