I was honored to by chance be in the audience for this performance. The standing ovation seemed like ten minutes. I later found out David sang while having the flu. Amazing!!!
He just did an interview saying he had a vocal cord lesion and had to have his ENT dr on stand by because he wasn’t sure if his cords would hold up. He had surgery 3 days later.
In an interview David did, he said he was worried how his fans would react to the song the first time they played it in their lineup since it's very different from what they usually do, but to his surprise he saw fans waving their cellphones and crying because they were so touched by the song as they were connecting to it. After that it became a "must play" song at every concert they did. Paul Simon actually contacted David and told him that he loved the cover so much that he added it to his social media content. You know you did good when the creator of a musical masterpiece tells you he loves your cover.

He can go from clear as crystal to rasp and back on a dime with unbelievable control. The man is so damn talented!! He's got a gift on loan from God.....well said Madeleine: "it's a privilege to witness that kind of greatness"
I agree. David is extremely good. However, it shouldn't be reduced to "talent" alone. Sure he's gifted, but he worked a lot to be able to reach that level. Nobody can achieve such a perfection in any field without work.
Ah, my dear... that was the most comprehensive, on-target commentary of this performance that I've seen here on UA-cam. Considering how very many vocal coaches, singers, fans, etc. have done reaction videos, it's beyond lovely to hear yours. I consider this to be the best live performance, other than classical and opera, that I've ever heard. Thank you, and yep, he does have beautiful eyes (and voice).
I realised that it was on-point when she was gesturing to the vocals in the same way that I was. I'm thankful that my monitor doesn't have a web-cam. I don't think my blue-collar workmates would imagine my emotional investment in this cover. Brings a tear to my eye.
i was honestly surprised that she didn't realize he was sick during this performance, especially since she is a vocal coach and fan of his. i've only found one reaction video of the conan performance that the person guessed that david was sick, and that one was an opera singer
I love every reaction video I watch with this song, but this one is my favorite. I can't help but cry to all of them as I pretend to hear it for the first time. Part of me wishes I could sing like that and move people to feel music like I feel it. Watching people being moved from music and voice is every bit as powerful to me as hearing the song itself.
The first time I heard this version was maybe a month ago, and I was stunned, just mind blown. I heard it on the radio, had no idea who this person was, thought maybe an opera singer. The second time I heard this version (on the same radio show), again stunned, I said to myself this guy, with his vocal prowess and intensity, this guy must be a rock singer. With my search through UA-cam, I discovered Disturbed and David. I have listened to David sing the Sound of Silence every day since then. It haunts me. I never want it to stop.
The sheer intensity, beauty and power of his voice here showcase this beautiful message. I cry every single time I hear this version. And I love her love of this piece. ❤️🌷
This is my favorite rendition of this song. His interpretation truly brings out the true meaning of the lyrics. Simon & Garfunkel sang to alarm us, he sang to give us a final warning. You should watch their music video version. It is as beautiful as it is haunting.
Simon and Garfunkel gave us a gentle warning in 1965. Disturbed gave us an admonishment because we didn’t listen to the original warning. Great reaction, thank you.
I've watched many vocal coaches react to this and this was by far my favorite!!! You explained exactly what was going on without having to spew big unrecognizable vocal words all over us, this was a breath of fresh air. And I agree I love David, he is great, personally I think he's underrated as a vocalist!
I have watched many, and I mean many reaction videos to this song now, and I have to say that yours was the most beautiful and genuine reaction to watch. I love that you already knew the group, AND the song, and therefore could appreciate fully what David just did there. I was smiling at your facial expressions, and your words, and after the week I had, I needed that, so thank you. You have a new fan. Blessings!
Re-binging this song and this time, watching vocal coaches. You are the THIRD one who specifically noticed his eyes and how connected they are with the music and lyrics. Brilliant.
You really should react to Ghost Love Score - live concert Wacken 2013. Floor Jansen's vocals would give you a lot to talk about voice techniques. But be prepared because Nightwish is a rabbit hole that could take you in a very very long journey.
David is amazing..my favorite Male vocalist. I agree with the other comments..because my favorite female vocalist is Floor..and you should react to Ghost Love Score Wacken 2013. She's just as amazing.
Your emotional reaction and joyous pride almost feels into the beauty of a proud momma watching her boy blossom out into manhoods roads. Delightful descriptions. Wisdoms breath gifted into our ears. Tremendous reaction. Thank you for you. God Bless.
That was an amazing educational break-down! I'm a 60s/70s gal...and have heard this song literally hundreds of times over the years. But when I first heard this, my eyes opened wide, and tears just ran down my face. I love my music but that was the first time ever a song had that effect on me...
Please do a reaction to "ghost love score" live at Wacken 2013 by Nightwish. I guarantee you will love Floor Janson's voice as well as being impressed by her absolute control of it, not to mention her amazing stage presence as well.
David was a classically trained singer in his younger years, that's why he has such great pure tones and mastery of his voice. Absolutely amazing every time I hear it and I always enjoy seeing someone discover it for the first time.
I always see the Simon and Garfunkel version as a warning prophecy, and the Distubed version as the anger that the prophecy was ignored and has come true.
I can listen to this song over and over and won’t get tired of it. It will still give me the chills. The is also he doesn’t swallow the words, you can make out every word. I especially love to watch the reactions of people. Thank you
considering the bands usual style of heavy metal, and davids yelling, screeching, growling. this mans voice remains. this is talent at its best. this rendition of simon and garfunkels song is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. such feeling and warmth. i believe david has lived what this song represents. you can hear it in his great voice.
David in Down With the Sickness: Uses vocal chords as a percussive instrument David in Sound of Silence: Uses vocal chords as the entire string and wind instrument sections
Am I missing something? I don't get it. I just haven't seen what you are seeing. I haven't seen anything to get excited about and EVERYBODY, but me and Andreas, apparently, LOVES NightWish. I want to be in on it.
@@sawyerweathers8713 I've seen some of their videos I like, but I think largely it depends on whether you have an appreciation for that style of music (I call symphonic metal, but I'm sure there are other names). Their singer (whoever she is, and I believe that role has changed at least once) appear to my untrained ear to be quite good, but I, too, would like to hear the analysis of someone with actual vocal training. The bass player also sings (to me, fairly well) and the pair of them in their version of Phantom of the Opera I think are quite good. But, again, if you don't particularly care for their style of music, you're not going to be a rabid fan. So Egor, if you don't like it, that's fine. I definitely don't like everything I've heard.
@UsirRaMaroon I see all these reaction videos about all these great singers or amazing bands that I respect and Nightwish is always there. I'm glad to hear that someone else understands. I just don't get it.
No one EVER expects the level of talent and emotion put into this. Everyone who is told about it expects something completely different from what this cover actually is.
lol read my mind. That was the first thing I thought about after seeing her doing a Metal singer reaction. Pretty much ANY song from Wacken 2013, bc its ALL FIRE. Just be ready, NW ARMY is hyper passionate :-)
I don't mind frankly. Seems like most people tend to just use it to boost their views and then they don't do any other Nightwish reactions anyway. Seems a bit disingenuous to me.
AND....there it was, at 1:10...the breathless "wow".....and she was drawn in to the vacuum that is David's voice....like a black hole, nothing escapes the depth, emotion....
If it is about "Voice" I would recommend "Ring of Fire" cover by Home Free. 5 man Acapella group. Huge Rabbit Hole to fall into. From the bass with a 5 octave range to the 'Freak of Nature' beat boxer.
Plus had Avi kaplan from pentatonix also. If not ring of sorrow, then man of constant sorrow or elvira colab with Oakridge boys. Misty mountains with Peter Hollins and Tim Faust Blood red sandman by Lordi The au diable les avocats (devil's advocate) by a capella group Les Charbonniers de l'enfer In french but listen to the voices not the words, unless of course you know french)
One of the few songs that truly commands you to listen to the vocals, but when you finally get over the power of the vocals you hear this beauty in the background that perfectly blends the emotion of this song.
Honestly, this is the best breakdown of his singing i've seen and i've watched a LOT of vocal teachers react to this song. Thank you for the clear concise explanations.
I appreciate your comments. I am not a singer nor do I know much about how singers do what they do but, when I listen to this cover the first time I felt it! The second time and dozens of times later I recalled things that I heard from friends and family that are singers and I gained even more respect for David's talent and then rest of the band for what they do. You explained it so well. They encapsulated the whole song! Words, emotion, intensity, feelings and MADE this song!
I have watched at least two dozen reaction videos on UA-cam by vocal coaches and this one was by far and away the best. Your description and break down of what's going on is wonderful for the experienced and laymen. You also put a lot of feeling and raw emotion into your feedback. This day and age with all the lies and misinformation in our lives on a daily basis this type of incredible content is like meditation or therapy. Thank you so much Madeleine!

You are the first reactor who knew Disturbed before seeing this performance. Love your analysis of it, the way they build this song is amazing. Thank you.
What an incredibly articulate analyzation. Seeing so many vocalists almost come to tears listening to David and have to convey what brought them into loving vocals and music just shows how extremely powerful this performance is. It brings everyone down to earth, and reminds them of their passion and love. So on-point to the lyrics that are talking about the human disconnect with digital media. I don't know anything about music but this just seems like a masterclass in music to me. I can't get enough. Thank you so much for this great video.
I heard this for the first time this year during my yoga class. I was in bits by the end of it. It touched every fibre of my body, goosebumps galore. Stunning!! Thank you for critiquing this❤
I would suggest the group Jinjer to you. They have an amazing vocalist, next to some awesome musicians. The song ' Pisces' (live session) is a wonderful starting place to get to know them.
I've seen Jinjer twice and they are epic. Pisces live session is one of the most popular videos to react to on YT. The live recording session was for their new (at the time, 2017) drummer, and only a few samples of Tatiana's vocals were captured. To get a raw look at Tatiana's vocals, the one-take recording video for Judgement & Punishment is what I'd suggest.
I'm sure, you being a fan of DISTURBED, that by now you've seen the official video.. The whole idea and artistry behind the visuals and the creativity and meaning behind that video is a whole beautiful piece of artwork in itself.. Together, they've made music history. 🎼🎶🤘🥀

As someone who can’t sing if my life depended on it, I find your commentary on all the intricacies of voice so interesting! I’m completely tone deaf, and cannot carry a tune, but I do appreciate music. When I first heard this song, I was mesmerized by the lyrics, & while I’d heard the original, I never quite paid attention to all the words. I find this version haunting & often listen to it over & over. I stumbled on your video watching other reaction videos. What’s worth noting is I cannot find one negative reaction to this song.

I am glad to see a Disturbed fan react to this song. I am a fan and I think this is extra mind blowing to Disturbed fans than people who haven’t heard of them before. This song helped me realize more, the raw talent in this group. I had heart surgery early this year and i told my wife before I went in, if this isn’t played at my funeral... i’m not going!
I am officially a fan!! You are so funny and so down to earth!! New subscriber!!!! I'm loving the fact that you've come to this knowing who David is and what their "usual" sound is lol most vocal coaches I've seen react to his rendition of The Sound of Silence are blown away by his vocal fries and how he can easily switch from tone to tone.

@@spevacknv probably crappy speakers. She isn’t using headphones either.
David was originally trained classically, opera. This truly showcases his wide range of vocal talent.
I never want it to stop.
not quite, he was trained as a cantor
The sheer intensity, beauty and power of his voice here showcase this beautiful message. I cry every single time I hear this version. And I love her love of this piece. ❤️🌷
This is my favorite rendition of this song. His interpretation truly brings out the true meaning of the lyrics. Simon & Garfunkel sang to alarm us, he sang to give us a final warning. You should watch their music video version. It is as beautiful as it is haunting.
S&G sang this as a plaintive prayer for their hurting generation. Disturbed delivered it as a sermon to generations who ignored the warning.
Simon and Garfunkel gave us a gentle warning in 1965.
Disturbed gave us an admonishment because we didn’t listen to the original warning.
Great reaction, thank you.
I've watched many coaches review this AMAZING version , but you've explained it best !
There's one that is a Spanish woman that I couldn't watch because she was "bias" to it
David singing amazing
Vocal coach: He has pretty eyes
David brings more gravitas to the song than anyone before.
Blessings!
Ditto!!!!
But be prepared because Nightwish is a rabbit hole that could take you in a very very long journey.
long and good journey :D
second that!
Thirded
4th vote for GLS Wacken 2013
A lot of people wait for this
Disturbed is one of those new vocal group who will be timeless. So smooth
New??
David is amazing..my favorite Male vocalist.
I agree with the other comments..because my favorite female vocalist is Floor..and you should react to Ghost Love Score Wacken 2013.
She's just as amazing.
Marco is also very good.....
@@portman69001 Marco is definitely very good, all the Nightwish members are.
no
I think the fact that you knew disturbed previously to this reaction made it really insightful
^^ This
Jim, while Nightwish, "Ghost Love Score", is fantastic, I don't think Madeleine is quite ready for them yet.
David was a classically trained singer in his younger years, that's why he has such great pure tones and mastery of his voice. Absolutely amazing every time I hear it and I always enjoy seeing someone discover it for the first time.
I've always said Simon and Garfunkel version was a sad lament of the times, but disturbed version is a dire warning.
I always see the Simon and Garfunkel version as a warning prophecy, and the Distubed version as the anger that the prophecy was ignored and has come true.
The original was a song of disgust of what's happening and the remake was the hatred of what is happening.
absolutely, the first time i heard it, my first thought was not a warning ,but anger at not having heeded the warning..
@@thomasjeffries9608 and pentatonix's is the hope for what might happen
Your excitement is amazing! I love when professionals get so moved by another performer.
Nightwish- Ghost Love Score would be the perfect song to react to
Especially The Wacken 2013 version with Floor Jansen.
Ah yes... Doing the good work right here! What a wonderful rabbit hole to go down!
*Yes, react to the wacken 2013 live set list for a start*
I was hust going to suggest Nightwish at Wacken 2013 ,, good choice
Yes please.
This arrangement gives me chills - every time
I never get tired of reactions to this performance or the song. It pulls at the the heart everytime
I wish she did this to the the actual music video, much better sounding and the video tells a haunting warning to the world.
I can listen to this song over and over and won’t get tired of it. It will still give me the chills. The is also he doesn’t swallow the words, you can make out every word. I especially love to watch the reactions of people. Thank you
"Like an aaaangel...."
This is a masterpiece of this old song, even Simon highlighted his preformence on Facebook and media after this show!
considering the bands usual style of heavy metal, and davids yelling, screeching, growling. this mans voice remains. this is talent at its best. this rendition of simon and garfunkels song is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. such feeling and warmth. i believe david has lived what this song represents. you can hear it in his great voice.
David in Down With the Sickness: Uses vocal chords as a percussive instrument
David in Sound of Silence: Uses vocal chords as the entire string and wind instrument sections
I damn near pissed myself with that!! Haha!!
David captures what Simon and Garfunkel couldn't with their high voices- a Gothic like angst.
It's honestly how the lyrics begged to be sung. Simon and Garfunkel put it out in the world. David found out how it really wanted to be sung.
Can you please react to NightWish -Ghost Love Score - live concert Wacken 2013 Thank you!
no
Am I missing something? I don't get it. I just haven't seen what you are seeing. I haven't seen anything to get excited about and EVERYBODY, but me and Andreas, apparently, LOVES NightWish. I want to be in on it.
Egor Anonymous you aren’t missing anything. I’m not a fan
Hm, no Nightwish Ghost Love Score Live @ Wacken 2013 reaction here?🤔
No joke, just looked through the channel to see if there was a nightwish reaction lol.
YET!
lol read my mind. That was the first thing I thought about after seeing her doing a Metal singer reaction. Pretty much ANY song from Wacken 2013, bc its ALL FIRE. Just be ready, NW ARMY is hyper passionate :-)
Just did exactly the same thing!
I don't mind frankly. Seems like most people tend to just use it to boost their views and then they don't do any other Nightwish reactions anyway. Seems a bit disingenuous to me.
He sings this so well, I can hear it 1000 times like the first time.
And goose bumps every time-and sometimes tears...
This guy gives me goose bumps so intensely that you can use my arms as a brillo pad.
I endorse this to the Highest Degree.
I can't up vote this enough.
Plus had Avi kaplan from pentatonix also.
If not ring of sorrow, then man of constant sorrow or elvira colab with Oakridge boys.
Misty mountains with Peter Hollins and Tim Faust
Blood red sandman by Lordi
The au diable les avocats (devil's advocate) by a capella group Les Charbonniers de l'enfer
In french but listen to the voices not the words, unless of course you know french)
❤️ This performance made me absolutely bawl my eyes out the first time I experienced it!
hi Madeleine - please react to NIGHTWISH - Ghost Love Score live at Wacken - I know for sure will be something for you.....
.
Yes!!
Came to see if there are Nightwish requests. There are :D
Lets save some time repeating comment section requests:
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Live at Wacken 2013)
Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera (Live at Beste Zangers)
Jinjer - Piscies (Live Version only)
Devin Townsend - Kingdom (Live in EMG TV)
Devin Townsend - Deadhead (Live at Royal Albert Hall)
Devin Townsend - Why? (Live at his home studio)
Tool - Sober (Live Remastered)
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live in Hammersmith)
I love how she mentioned that it almost had a classical sound to it.
Because David Draiman was classically trained and turned heavy metal rocker.
I am here to recommend Nightwish - Ghost love score from wacken 2013.
Your ability to perceive and convey the poetry behind the music is quite impressive and delightful to watch.
I would love to see your reaction on the cover of Shallow by Floor Jansen ♥️
I heard this for the first time this year during my yoga class. I was in bits by the end of it. It touched every fibre of my body, goosebumps galore. Stunning!! Thank you for critiquing this❤
I would suggest the group Jinjer to you. They have an amazing vocalist, next to some awesome musicians. The song ' Pisces' (live session) is a wonderful starting place to get to know them.
This...100%
100%
I've seen Jinjer twice and they are epic. Pisces live session is one of the most popular videos to react to on YT. The live recording session was for their new (at the time, 2017) drummer, and only a few samples of Tatiana's vocals were captured. To get a raw look at Tatiana's vocals, the one-take recording video for Judgement & Punishment is what I'd suggest.
^^^^
Another supporter here. We don't need more Nightwitch reactions, we need more Jinjer reactions!
I'm sure, you being a fan of DISTURBED, that by now you've seen the official video.. The whole idea and artistry behind the visuals and the creativity and meaning behind that video is a whole beautiful piece of artwork in itself.. Together, they've made music history.
🎼🎶🤘🥀
Please react to JINJER PISCES the live session. You will love it
this
Yes! Just. Do. It.
Here we go :D
Second that
by far the best song on the internet to react to. you picked the wrong version of this song though. David was sick and producers wanted to use auto tune. the official Disturbed version way better.
This was my favorite reaction of any to this cover! You are so entertaining and knowledgeable. I loved your excitement. I also loved, "He has such pretty eyes." He does and his voice is UNREAL!
I was a teenager when Simon and Garfunkel sang this song. Thank you David for this another masterpiece!❤️
God: Do you want to sing like an angel or a demon?
David: Yes.
Yes we get it, how about an original comment next time.
I think David dose the familiar song so much justice. He is just amazing not to mention he had the flu when he was on the show
I’m dying watching this because this cover is one of my favorite songs and I haven’t seen you get to THAT ONE INCREDIBLE PART yet and I keep saying to my screen NO YOU DONT EVEN KNOW YET, YOU DONT EVEN KNOW 😂
I am glad to see a Disturbed fan react to this song. I am a fan and I think this is extra mind blowing to Disturbed fans than people who haven’t heard of them before. This song helped me realize more, the raw talent in this group. I had heart surgery early this year and i told my wife before I went in, if this isn’t played at my funeral... i’m not going!
It’s so surprising how many vocal coaches are impressed with his voice well duh David is classically trained
One of my favourite types of video is vocal coaches reacting to this cover. 😁
Is it weird that I get SO EMOTIONAL each and every time I listen to "this" version of The Sound of Silence?🥲
Floor Jansen of Nightwish, singing Viljad Lied on the Dutch TV show Beste Zingers.
You don’t hear this song. You feel it in your soul. It’s amazing
I always considered the original by Simon and Garfunkel to be one of the finest pieces of music in recent history. But when I heard it for me first time by Disturbed, I was in total awe. His performance,, not a studio mix, but live, was amazing. I literally had tears in my eyes. Simon and Garfunkel wrote a fantastic piece of music and performed it beautifully, but Disturbed improved on it by an unbelievable amount. One of the best ever!
I fell in love at once the first time I heard this, and the feeling never gets old anytime I listen to it
Thanks for reacting to this❤️
I love the way you played back a bit, after you had stopped the video. It recaptures his singing magic. I love your reaction. Me, I honestly had tears!! Powerful Wish I could sing just a little bit.
