I am a 65 year old guy now, and I have to admit the first time I heard this version I was driving and I had to pull over. I simply could not see for tears. For lots of reasons. The beauty, the sadness, the despair. It still makes me cry if I just sit and listen. I have known of the band for many years and even in his heaviest numbers David always stirs emotion. I've never seen your channel before, but for some reason I almost cried again when I saw your reaction. So glad it moved you.
So glad to read your observation! I felt the same when I first heard this cover. In its original form, it’s already a masterpiece. And now to have this version! Wow! You said it better than I probably could have...or at least I don’t have to put as much effort into coming up with a response. ❤ Music that can move people to feel such pure, raw emotion is comparable to a spiritual experience. 🎶
Luckily I had already pulled over,I reacted the same, people walking past wondering y this little fat bloke was sitting in his van crying uncontrollably
The video they did for this is beautiful. Please look at that as well. He was sick for this performance and has said he had points where all he could hear was the drums being played next to him. He did a beautiful job despite all of that. Please check out the official video for this. I get chills every time I listen to it.
Paul Simon was very apprehensive about hearing this cover, But after he listened to it he was blown away by his outstanding voice control and vocal range ,He loved it so much that he put a link of it on his home page,And he said it was weird a wonderful that a Cover of his own work gave him chills and made the hair on his arms stand up,That alone speaks volumes.
this performance is pure autotune. like, if you can't hear the robotic nature of it, you're lost. people need to stop revering this crap as a great vocal feat. it's autotune. you can hear it clean.
I remember when a student told me in a class discussion that Disturbed covered “Sound of Silence,” and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard it. I ran to my computer to listen right then. I was speechless. I truly believe this is the greatest cover of all time.
I wish everyone knew this about him (that he was sick during this performance and also that he was classically trained as a Cantor) so they could fully appreciate everything he does with this song and not just from the listener's angle.
We do appreciate it, it's just a travesty his normal music is aweful heavy and doesn't utilize any of his talents. If he keeps going back to this type of music he will shine even more.
The beauty of this version is that it sounds less like a “new” version than a progression, something that I think Paul Simon felt when he gave the seal of his approval to David Draiman. Someone said that the original “Sound of Silence” was a plea to the world, a warning, and this version is the anger that the warning was ignored, which I think says it all.
Same. I have no dog in the race re: Disturbed, pretty indifferent, but followed this link from reddit abd was struck by the angry tone. It fits really well.
Agreed. This song was my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song prior Disturbed getting ahold of it. David just makes it more everything. I could list, but I won't. Disturbed fans will understand what I mean.
It’s his ability to effortlessly switch between angel and demon in the same breath that made my jaw drop, the control he has is unmatched by any singer that I’ve ever heard
I love when metal bands do the whole yin/yang vocal stuff. big part of why I love the post-hardcore genre; they're like 50|50 usually. (edit: i know disturbed is not "post-hardcore,")
May I recommend Axel Rose. He has such amazing control and range that it's a crime that he isn't given more credit for his abilities. He may be from my time (80's and early 90's but his music is immortal).
This song was incorporated into my husbands military funeral (Canadian military funerals are much different than US) Even those who had never heard it were brought to tears. He wasn’t religious and I struggled to tow the line to have a respectful semi formal service while honoring who HE was. In the end it was beautiful. Anyone that’s served and been deployed to war zones I think has a deep appreciation for this song.
Thank you for sharing your story, and I want to express my condolences and prayers to you and your family, who have shared a very brave man with his Country.
I loved the moment you could see in her face….David got her. The last verse. The power…the gravel. It’s when this song climaxes and you feel the uncontrollable tears well up. You can’t stop it and her emotion completely changed from loving this rendition to the deep, sadness and overwhelming flood of emotion. I cried and laughed with her. She is now complete.
I was just about to post the same thing, you can literally see the emotions she is going through listening to this song. This is one of my favorites!!!
08:25 - WOWed 08:40 - Moved 15 Seconds Such an amazing vocalist. I love their version of the song. It feels like this is how it was always supposed to be performed. Would love to hear David sing so many other songs. Exceptional talent.
The first time I heard this version, I was driving. I had to pull over to listen as I had tears in my eyes. I don't think I've EVER been so moved hearing a piece of music for the first time. This, to me, is pure perfection.
Two Years.... It took me two years before I listened to this without tearing up some. Though I understand the musical connotation of the song. It speaks to me more as if speaking to a mental health issue.
The use of the violins with the darkness of the kettle drums behind and from the outset the piano quietly adding... It BUILDS RELENTLESSLY TO IT'S CRUSHENDO, DROPPING AWAY TO THAT SILENCE... PURE PERFECTION.. WOW
I loved seeing you go to stop the video to comment and then just get overwhelmed by the performance such that you rode it out to the end. I could see the tears almost welling up, and it's the same reaction I have when I listen to this song. Great reaction!
WOW! As a now senior little old lady who has been a trained singer NEVER have I heard a rendition of this song that kept me in “shiver mode” and rendered me into full blown tears as by this person David Draiman who has been gifted with a voice that is literally “not of this world” and moved me as I had never been moved before. Thank you David for sharing your amazing gift of voice with us! ❤
The wild thing is he’s a metal singer who usually doesn’t use this normal singing voice. I e listened to these guys for years and I was absolutely stunned the first time I heard this.
I watched an interview with Draiman when this song first came out. He said he had been getting burned out on singing at the time and I think he said he considered quitting. Then he went into the recording booth alone to do his vocals and found his roots again. He's classically trained and rediscovered why he loved singing.
I'm knocking on age 80, and to me this song is hypnotic. I bet that in the last month I've listened to Disturbed's version of "Sound of Silence" at least 50 times. I'm sitting here right now almost comatose. My favorite song ever.
Retired after 35 years of military service, when I first heard this song I was initially stunned, then when his vocals increased and the anger came out, i felt as if it was 1 on 1 between him and myself. The passions, the frustrations, the experiences I have encountered in my life were brought forward and I cried. I hope this gets played at my funeral.
Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel wrote this in 1963/4 - when he heard David sing this on the Conan show, he made a point of letting him know how impressed he was with his performance! 😍
Absolutely correct , simon and trent graciously complimented and gave the songs that literally got owned by the cover artists...dave and the man in black...👍🇺🇸🍻
@@fkwyman Meh... Two different tunes. Simon and Garfunkel lyrically, poetically, musically WHINED about the negative effects of TV on Society's ability to communicate. Disturbed (Draiman) SHOUTS their anger at people for not communicating and caring about others.
@@tcscushing I heard someone word it like this (paraphrasing) S&G's version was a warning plea and this one is more angry condemnation that we didnt listen to them.
You should listen to Jonathan Antoine. He doesnt sing this song but honestly his songs are goosebumps all the way through, after hearing it 5-10 times before.
Their recorded music really doesn't do them justice. I remember when their first album came out and I was like "meh.." Then I saw them live at Ozzfest with Hatebreed, Lacuna Coil, Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, and Sabbath. They totally stole the show despite sharing the stage with Cristina Scabbia.
Try giving one of the famous tenors a chance. They will move the musical experience to a few levels higher. For example, my favorite song with U2: ua-cam.com/video/LWXQdw-YvVM/v-deo.html. Popular singers next to an experienced tenor sound like singing children... 😉
I played this for my mother, who was in a nursing home. After replaying it progressively louder ten times, residents in wheelchairs were still flocking to the room. This version will span generations.
The most amazing thing to me is that he sang this with a super high fever and he was extremely sick, but he didn’t want to pass on this performance. That’s why he’s sitting instead of standing cuz he felt like crap. And he pulled that out!! The voice of an angel. I could listen to him sing all the time.
dude wake up. this is not a live performance. this is as heavily edited as it gets. there is very little 'real' singing' left. and it still sounds bad.
@@0okyo 1. what does metal have to do with whether this is heavily edited, or not? 2. calling this 'metal' is an insult 3. this isnt even up for debate. it is clear as day how insanely edited this performance is and you have to be completely tonedeaf AND be incredibly ignorant, if you argue about it.
@@hunzukunz You are the one who is arguing not me. 😂 I said that you probably never was on a metal concert not on a Disturbed concert. I simply stated that you are hating on something stupidly. 300-400 professionals didn’t hear that the song is edited hardly , but you did. 😂 Yeah some said that there was 1 second auto tune on one note, but that’s it. If that’s heavily edited for you then okay.
I am a grown up man and i would say i do not cry very often. But his voice catches me every time. The changes in "silent raindrops fall" makes me melt always. The mix of headvoice and distortion in one song... All the colours in one person... The management of breath... His softness and still holding his unreached presence... THIS IS ART! This man gives me so much feelings when singing that i am not able to hold back tears.
David is one of my favorite singers. So much talent. And this song also chokes me up every time. Not many songs do this, but he commands this great song...
It’s not just better than the other versions, it’s the best cover song ever made. Paul Simon said this song belongs to disturbed after this performance.
@@mikethayer8122 it's worse. It's fine to have a low-quality, pedestrian perspective on music. Here's the crazy part: he was feeling a little under the weather during this performance. Said he had some sinus drainage/blockage that affected his performance. There're a couple times that a couple notes suddenly cut short as a result. Even then, David absolutely knocked it out of the park. Thats how good he is is.
I heard it was a flu and he had his temperature was like 102 or something but yeah you can hear a little nasal in there but it didn't seem to affect his performance badly at all are you still knocked it out
David Draiman is a trained cantor. His voice is absolutely amazing. As a fan of both Simon & Garfunkel and Disturbed, I was super excited about their cover.
Paul Simon said that the Disturbed version might be *his* favorite version of the song. you wanna talk high praise, you can't get much better than that.
Same. The moment she stoped analysing for us, and just felt the song. That’s it’s power no matter how many times you hear it. It stops you. It demands your attention, demands your emotion… and you give them freely and utterly.
Same. I wished she had addressed that and how his voice pulled that emotion out of her. In any case, it's delightful to me when vocal coaches are so blown away by David's voice.
if anything next to Opera singers. Metal singers need a equal well trained and developed vocal abilities. Both in a way need to be able to project there voice in to the space and reach everyone all in the back. only with opera it is more a round full sound. Where with metal it's growling, grunting but also just full out open.
I'm 70, I found this maybe 5 years ago and instantly obsessed on it - enough that when UA-cam suggested your reaction, I clicked without a second thought. Thanks for your reaction! I understand why it's important to hear a live performance - now you did, and he was sick, so go listen to the official video. It's stunning both vocally and in its imagery. And I think it gives you a better sense of the truth of his voice than the live performance did. Subscribed.
Not quite half your age, and very much felt the same reaction about 10 years ago, as well as just now when I clicked her vid! Greetings from the Millennial generation!
He’s not. He trained to be a cantor. He came from an orthadox jewish family and was studying to be a rabbi before studying to be a cantor then studied pre law and went into metal

You are my favorite coach to watch for break down and reaction. Your pure smile when his voice surprises you in multiple locations, and then when you are overwhelmed with emotion, to the point that it surprised yourself was beautiful and touching.
Yes! I agree completely. I watched her intensely. It was beautiful. ❤ I had seen this version several times and I looked for a reaction video. PS she sooo reminds me of Annette Benning!😮
He has such command of his voice. Growls are where they belong, and clear notes are where they do the most damage emotionally. He’s in control the whole time
This. The growls are done at _exactly_ the right moments. I mean just the *ANGER* at “…and the people bowed and prayed… to the neon god they made!” comes across so clearly. If anything, more effectively than Simon & Garfunkel’s original.
Certainly, the best use of "metal growl" ever. By reserving it, to gradually build up and up the raw emotion...to then unleash a pure unadulterated rage - a lion's roar - at the end. Sublime.
When she went to pause, just as David unleashed his growl, the surprised smile as she jerked her hand back. Girl, you really need to listen to some of Disturbed's earlier music. That growl is so impressive.
Love that she was about to pause the she was stopped by the “what’s next” thought. You could tell by the rapid blinking she was having an emotional reaction. Something we can all probably relate to the first time we saw/heard this version.
It feels to me that his voice comes from his soul, somewhere deep inside his body, but unconstricted by muscles, ribcage, throat & head. Spectacular at all levels.
Paul Simon gave David the best compliment ever, when he told him that The Sound of Silence was his song now! I have listened to some of David's interviews and he is so genuine and humble. I am not a heavy metal fan, but David's voice is wonderful, especially in this song. I grew up with the original (I am 68 yo), but this version is my favorite. It makes reviewers cry.
I loved how your objective professional analysis of David's vocal technique was overwhelmed by the beauty and power of this performance towards the end, and you couldn't bring yourself to pause it, you just let it take you... that was special to see, it made me weep♥
I was watching your face for the reaction I knew you’d have. At first you were normally enthused but as the song went on I found myself watching you closely and thinking “she has no idea what’s coming.” I can never again hear this version for the first time so it was a true joy to watch you. Your professionalism is amazing - not sure how you avoided tears.
@@tkpreston14 in this telescope of observational commentary I find my goosebumps are extended by how many of us were waiting and watching for those moments of resonance as she approaches his incredible crescendo, and I see you and so many others getting the same hit of awe by witnessing her reaction as we got listening to the cover of the song for the first time. We are a species intended to connect in profound ways. Music is simply one of the best. Blessings.
The reason I like the vocalist is that, she doesn't know but her body reacts to music, unlike the rest of them it is not a performance its immediate gradual and involuntary. That is a sign of a true musician.
Your facial expressions are everything. David Daiman always blows away vocal coaches that aren't familiar with him. He definitely commands a space without even trying and without being over the top.
I showed this to my daughter when they dropped this cover. She has been a fan ever since. Her exact words were: “This is a modern rock masterpiece”. Yep. Even Paul Simon congratulated Disturbed for this amazing cover. Indeed it is a masterpiece.
I grew up on S&G and I've been a fan of Disturbed since they were an opening band. I admit I raised an eyebrow when I saw they'd covered this. By the time David reached the last lyrics, I'd forgotten to breathe. I was just sitting there, clutching at my heart, mouth hanging open, not breathing, tears in my eyes. His technique is brilliant; I feel blessed to have sung professionally and have the background to fully appreciate what he's done. And yeah, this is best version.
I like that, I think I was holding my breath the first time as well...and if you have an ounce of humanity in your soul I don't see how you can listen to this song and NOT cry...the combination of his beautiful singing in the beginning along with the moving and powerful raspy sounds at the end are such a contrast and perfectly set to the lyrics he is singing....never gets old.
Disturbed is one of those bands that, when they cover a song, they do it right. They know the point is to pay homage to the song, whilst making the song their own. "Land of Confusion," "Shout," "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You," so on and so forth. All amazing covers that can stand next to the originals, arm in arm.
9:04 I knew she would start crying around this point. everyone does. Its Brilliant. I've listened to this dozens of times and I still cry and get goose bumps.
I read a comment before that Simon & Garfunkel first put the tune out as a warning, and the Disturbed version expresses anger that the warning went unheeded. I think that's a brilliant synopsis. I grew up in the glorious age of that great 60's & 70's music, and I still find it hugely emotional...this is no exception! I'm a 71 year old bagpiper, and my son challenged me to play this on pipes. I've spent the last week listening intently and transcribing it by ear to fit the limited note range of the Great Highland Bagpipes. It's the most challenging transcription I've tried, and after 5 solid days, I've got the first 4 verses down pretty pat. I should finish the tune this weekend and start editing & tweaking for my final write. This is a fun project, and I'm looking forward to finally taking it from the practice chanter to pipes. Bravo to David for a masterful rendition to this timeless tune!
I scrolled through a bunch of the top comments here ( I might have missed it though) and didn't notice anyone stating that David was really sick during this performance and yet he still performed perfectly. He got very upset that the Conan tech team had put some minor correction on his voice live because David basically refuses to use correction when performing. He's that confident and proud of his skills that he doesn't need correction at all. They sound just like this live as I've seen them perform this song live too!
This is a perfect example demonstrating the strength and power of his voice but in the most subdued way. It's beautiful and brings tears to my 57 yr old eyes everytime.
After the hesitation to pause and the face you made at 8:26 is priceless. Letting the song play and transition into the next piece without breaking it up to analyze. Pure genuine reaction, absolutely heartwarming to see. I wish I could experience this song for the first time again. Great Video.
Tbh I wish she would have done that throughout. I get that she's trying to give input but at least wait until there's a pause in the song so as to not break up the flow.
She has so many emotions throughout this song, from happy to sadness, even tears. She really shows us how powerful music can be. She is beautiful inside and out, reminds me of my third grade teacher.
Your reaction young lady at the end of the song is Priceless, the face mannerisms and heavier breathing shows your true emotions as you apparently tried to understand the capacity of his voice. Thanks again, it was a true pleasure.
The best thing about the reaction was how emotionally the song touched you at 8min.20s. You wanted to stop the video but you were too captivated by his voice. Don't fight tears, they are a sign of emotional intelligence.😘
Every time i hear this version, it makes me emotional. The way he performs this song is nothing less than extraordinary. He has such a gift of delivery, that you have no choice but to feel the entire song... every word of it... he truly was blessed by God with this amazing gift. I always feel honored that he was willing to share his gift with all of us.
8:20 is a beautiful moment. You look like you're about to pause to talk about it but the next line comes in and your reaction exactly encapsulates how I feel when I hear it. I've heard this and the studio version countless times but it never fails to move me. Excellent reaction and insight, thank you
You can see in your face the change from when you were listening to the song and then when you were actually hearing it. This song does that to me every time.
I went to their concert right after they recorded this song, and omg the emotion that went through the stadium was indescribable, he pulled up a chair and sang this song to just me is what it felt like, such a great singer!!
8:46 - I've never seen your countenance look like that in any other performance review/reaction. It looked sincere. It looked like "helpless surrender" to what was happening. I enjoyed sharing that with you. Those moments are why it is so enjoyable to watch you.
This man has one of the most incredible voices. He can sing soft and warm like melted chocolate, and he can conjur up ridiculous amounts of gravel without losing ANY of the power. And he doesn't have to scream or shout to be powerful either. He puts so much power into the quiet parts. This is legitimately as good as the original, and I say that about almost zero covers. But this one is absolutely phenomenal and gets right a the emotion behind the lyrics. The anger, the despair, it hits hard.
This version gives be chills. I have rarely heard a voice or arrangement that affects me so strongly. His voice moves effortlessly gaining power, raspy growl until he is singing in an almost shout but still so controlled and beautiful. One of the most incredible performances. I have never much liked metal music but this man has the most gorgeous voice.
This song drew some emotion from you when he let loose with the power of his voice. You started breathing a little deeper and your eyes watered. I've watched this video several times and it still gets me.
Excellent reaction Bethany. This is arguably the greatest cover ever made. Simon and Garfunkels 'folky' original is softer and lighter and beautifully sung, but for me, Disturbed's moody, darker version much better suits the lyrics. David Draiman is a masterful vocalist and his classical training clearly pays dividends here.
I had never heard of Disturbed when I listened to this cover. Because it was incredible, I chose another Disturbed song and was shocked when it was metal. I listened to the song "Down With the Sickness" a few times and went on from there and now I like Metal. I really think this particular song which shows off David's voice better than most of the metal songs.
That's always an amusing reaction. My mother, who is 74 years old, really enjoyed this. She didn't believe me when I told her Disturbed was chiefly a metal band... so I played her Down With the Sickness... her facial expressions were priceless! Lol
Ohhhh my. Terry Allen! The rabbit hole you could be going down, lol. If you were interested, there are soooo very many artists out there just waiting out there for someone like you to discover, and I'm sure there are more than enough people here willing to lend a hand with several of their favorite artists in this genre. That is, if you were interested :)
Check out Slipknot - Snuff, and then compare that to Duality or Wait and Bleed. and then you can move on to Corey Taylor's other band Stone Sour - Through Glass and Bother, then Gone Sovereign/Absolute Zero. From there check out Five Finger Death Punch - Wrong Side of Heaven and I Apologize and Coming Down. My point in suggesting these songs is showing the versatility of metal bands and how they can go from powerful songs with a message to 'screaming'.
Disturbed is a great band to get yourself into the metal scene. If you want to take another step, listen to some Killswitch Engage. I'm not a big fan of the real heavy stuff. Avenged Sevenfold is hit or miss with some people. I personally love them, but they get some hate.
I am a child of the 60's and have a deep and abiding love for S&G. This is the most outstanding cover of "The Sound of Silence" that I have ever heard. Absolutely gobsmacked and moved to tears over this glorious presentation. You bet I am going to immediately watch the full video on Disturbed's channel at least 10 times today. Thank you for showcasing this, I 'd never have come across it if it weren't for you. Just wow!
Draiman is otherworldly. He gives a performance for the ages. And the instrumental skill and orchestration absolutely reaches the greatness of his voice. It's an incredible total performance on every level.
At 8:20 she started to hit the pause button, but his voice was so powerful, she couldn't stop listening. His voice is so powerful, none of us could stop listening.
I heard Disturbed’s version of this song for the first time when I was driving home from work. I had to pull over and just let it wash over me. And hoped the DJ would announce the artist’s name. I have always loved the original (I’m pretty sure it’s the first song I heard of S & G when it hit the radio) but this version just seems like it fulfills the song’s deepest intent. It made me cry when I heard this version. It still does
I fight back tears every time he belts out the distortion. Another tearjerker by them: Hold on to Memories, live. Please tell us your take on David in this one.
Your flash of visible confusion when he sang "that voices never shared"... That was delectable. The texture in this whole performance is unbelievable. Watching you go from analytical as a teacher to being completely absorbed by the emotion of the performance made me feel so happy that you got to enjoy it properly. When you nearly paused it and it just beat you to it.... Your breath visibly quickened... it is so so good. I swear this is one of the best ever performances of my life. It leaves you emotionally spent at the end, and the significance of the words hit really hard when you realise everything in the song has come to pass.

Soooo well said. Wow.
It’s his ability to effortlessly switch between angel and demon in the same breath that made my jaw drop, the control he has is unmatched by any singer that I’ve ever heard
Well said!
He may be from my time (80's and early 90's but his music is immortal).
steve perry was def at that level tho
He was a chanter. Ergo his voice control and range. Fabulous!!
Watching the emotions in her face! The singer is doing this song perfectly.
His voice is that of an Angel at the beginning, by the ending it is ........An Angel filled with Righteous Wrath.
Perfect!
Holy Hell. Those words are the perfect verbal juxtaposition for the beautiful complexity of this performance. Nicely done.
what an epic description 👏
Wow, that description is so fitting, so spot on. Nice job!
Awesome analogy!!! Concur!!
His voice is so pleasantly haunting. It reverberates right to your soul
You did him proud I'm sure.
Sorry for your loss. US Retired Army here. Vet is a Vet. Regardless of what country we serve. Stand proud.

The expression on your face is the expression of EVERYONE hearing it the first time when it came out.
Not me.
I can't count how many times I've heard the song, and it brings me to tears every time

I agree with you fantastic
I loved the moment you could see in her face….David got her. The last verse. The power…the gravel. It’s when this song climaxes and you feel the uncontrollable tears well up. You can’t stop it and her emotion completely changed from loving this rendition to the deep, sadness and overwhelming flood of emotion. I cried and laughed with her. She is now complete.
You see her arm go down to stop the video, at least that's what I thought she was doing, but he hooks her in just before and she's mesmerized.
Agreed!!!!
Well put, you described it perfectly.
I was just about to post the same thing, you can literally see the emotions she is going through listening to this song. This is one of my favorites!!!

Such an amazing vocalist.
Only took me about 200 listens not to cry 😅
Then see him do this live before you die. I promise you it's worth it
Two Years....
It took me two years before I listened to this without tearing up some. Though I understand the musical connotation of the song. It speaks to me more as if speaking to a mental health issue.
That is exactly the same reaction I had....tears streaming down my face...such a moving version
I am moved every time I hear this version. It’s magical.
The use of the violins with the darkness of the kettle drums behind and from the outset the piano quietly adding... It BUILDS RELENTLESSLY TO IT'S CRUSHENDO, DROPPING AWAY TO THAT SILENCE... PURE PERFECTION.. WOW
The fact that Paul Simon complimented this cover is a testament to Disturbed!

Agreed. “That moment” is why I watch these reactions. Super fun!
Word for word my thoughts as well.
I was saying "Don't stop there. . . . Oh please no, not THERE!" And she started to, then let it roll.
i was about to comment on the eyes welling up, i like seeing people get so passionate about music. Great reaction
This is me every time I hear this song. 100 rotations later and the beauty of David's voice absolutely touches me. Nice reaction.
Yes! Me too..I’m a 69 year old female ❤😊😢
Agree totally with you ❤

Right? Doesn't this one just hit right there. I love the original, but it never hit me like this.
Because manly, fatherly voices are void in today's male vocalists (John Mayer for one!!!!)
He said "the song is yours now". An incredible compliment, but accurate, best version of the song that's ever been recorded. Live on Conan was tops.
@@fkwyman Strange That is exactly what Trent Reznor said about Johny Cash cover of Hurt......
Absolutely correct , simon and trent graciously complimented and gave the songs that literally got owned by the cover artists...dave and the man in black...👍🇺🇸🍻

Same.
Disturbed took a brilliant, timeless song and turned it into a masterpiece for the modern age. Unbelievable!
This is not just a song. It's a musical experience.
Try giving one of the famous tenors a chance. They will move the musical experience to a few levels higher. For example, my favorite song with U2: ua-cam.com/video/LWXQdw-YvVM/v-deo.html. Popular singers next to an experienced tenor sound like singing children... 😉
Only if she sop turning the song off
I played this for my mother, who was in a nursing home. After replaying it progressively louder ten times, residents in wheelchairs were still flocking to the room. This version will span generations.
Oh I agree
The most amazing thing to me is that he sang this with a super high fever and he was extremely sick, but he didn’t want to pass on this performance. That’s why he’s sitting instead of standing cuz he felt like crap. And he pulled that out!! The voice of an angel. I could listen to him sing all the time.
Really? Blimey - that's even more impressive than it already was!
dude wake up. this is not a live performance. this is as heavily edited as it gets. there is very little 'real' singing' left. and it still sounds bad.

It’s not just better than the other versions, it’s the best cover song ever made. Paul Simon said this song belongs to disturbed after this performance.
Yeah... it's like Paul Simon wrote it eons ago so David Draiman could sing it.
It's really sad that they made it. Every other song now sounds like ... just another song to me.
And coming from Paul Simon that is ridiculously high praise.
He was also incredibly sick when he did this performance. He didn't know if he could do it. It ended up being the best version of this song ever made.

He’s in control the whole time
Emotional damage is the exact phrase I've been trying to find to describe what he does with his voice. The man is extremely talented.
You should watch the music video, way more. He was actually really sick when he performed this, had the flu.
Sublime.
I've listened to this song a thousand times, and I get goose bumps, and I tear up every single time!

Absolutely. That hit her like a ton of bricks. They are incredibly live. When I went, the acrostic stage was right in front of my seats.
This cover is an absolute masterpiece.
Love that she was about to pause the she was stopped by the “what’s next” thought. You could tell by the rapid blinking she was having an emotional reaction. Something we can all probably relate to the first time we saw/heard this version.

I've had that reaction many times with this song . The mounting tension is sublime.
I’ve loved Disturbed since they first emerged. When I heard this cover…I legit cried. David’s voice just gave this song a depth….
I saw David perform this live at Rockville in 2016... the whole crowd just literally stood silent... BEAUTIFUL ❤
It feels to me that his voice comes from his soul, somewhere deep inside his body, but unconstricted by muscles, ribcage, throat & head. Spectacular at all levels.
You said it perfectly. It’s true talent to be able to release the sound of your souls feelings

@@philwest6034, Paul Simon likes it too, he said so in an interview.
Don't forget the chills...
I agree. Their original stuff is great but it takes special talent to do covers that come anywhere near the originals and Disturbed are amazing at it.
Dudes range is INCREDIBLE. You don’t realize this hearing an average disturbed song. Holy talent…
I would love a copy of your art!
I'd love to hear it when it's done!
I guess this thread is all about you isn’t it? 😊
She got body slammed by the song and could not get up!

David Draiman is untouchable in regard to the delivery of this song. The entire arrangement is very powerful.
For me, this is the best cover of any song I’ve ever heard. It moves me and through me, bone deep, everytime I listen.

You can see in your face the change from when you were listening to the song and then when you were actually hearing it. This song does that to me every time.
Honestly, I was moved watching how moved you were. This is a powerful song performed by a powerful artist.
No, it's not "as good as the original." It is better.
It stomps the original into a whiney, whimpering puddle of goo and then mops it up.
As incredible as this live recording is, you owe it to yourself to listen to the "official" video - sublime!

He makes the super low notes and high notes sound effortless, especially the very low notes. He has a seamless range. Beautiful.
And just think, he was very sick 🤒 at the time he performed this. Amazing
It's certainly up there with Johnny Cash's "Hurt."

They also did a great cover of Land of Confusion by Phil Collins
It still does
It's absolutely vocally just on another level and this live version might just be the most brilliant cover of all time
Unchained Melody by Righteous Brothers? Another 10/10.
I fight back tears every time he belts out the distortion. Another tearjerker by them: Hold on to Memories, live. Please tell us your take on David in this one.
David Draiman has one of the most beautiful singing voices ever even though he does do heavier vocals for metal where he shouts and roars
8:40 is when you felt it! This cover is amazing. Your vulnerability is beautiful!
Best reaction to one the best (maybe the best) "singerperformance"
ever! And I've watched all reactions...
Your face, your eyes & mouth show your soul's journey. You do NOT have a poker face, and it is wonderful to this 61 yr old grandmother, in tears EVERY time i hear this masterpiece sung by D.D.! Eyes are the window. Awesome.
