Conan O'Brian said in an interview that by the time the second verse started, every single crew member working backstage had stopped what they were doing and they had all come out to watch this performance like Moth's drawn to a light. Conan said that was the first and only time he had ever witnessed that happen during his 20+ year career as a Talk Show Host.
Simon and Garfunkel created the song, and finally, the song is complete, its performed with the rawness, the hurt and regrets of the soul. IMHO this song is now finished for the ages.
This is the best version of the song i have ever heard. David's grandfather was a Cantor and David had been training most of his life. The real thing that makes this version soo incredible is that he performed the song that night with a bleeding lesion on his vocal cord and refused to cancel because he had given his word therefore he was not about to break his commitment that night.
I've watched dozens of vocal coach reations to this song and am surprised that none of them ever mention his flawless choices and placement of his vowels, like "in the naked light I sAw..." He's made very specific choices, and they are perfect!
Watch the video so not only do you get the vocal but the truly best depiction of a song I've ever heard & saw. This song came out in the mid-60s when I was a kid. It hooked me then. And since then I've heard it literally thousands of times, some good covers some not so much. I'll confess I used to eat sleep & breathe S&G. No version could top them - until this. Even just listening to it now, it gave me goose bumps down to & under my toes. David Draiman brought all the disappointment, sadness & anger from his life to this song. End of story. Full stop. Period. Forever.
He’s pretty amazing! He talks about the technique of using that growl when singing, as he does it often when singing hard rock. He stresses the importance of knowing how to do it properly.
An example like this is why, as a metal fan, you kinda want to throw a person out of the window when he says that metal singers only sings metal because they cant really sing, or the musicians only play metal because they cant play real” music. There are some amazing talents in metal.
People will tell you he had the flu. But I just watched an interview with David and it turns out he had a bleeding lesion on his vocal cord. This makes it even MORE impressive. He was trained as a Cantor and after 20+ years still works with a vocal coach. One more thing, I’d love to hear you do a break down of PENTATONIX. The number one a capella group in the world.
@@jasonregister3494 how many Grammy’s do they have? Oh yeah, Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? 😂😂😂 don’t get me wrong, I actually voted for home free when they competed. I’m just not into country. 🤭😂🤗💋
You may want to consider listening to more music from Disturbed. They've been around almost 30 years now and have an extensive catalogue of music that is very different from this song.
This song is about the lack of communication in people today. It truly is a masterpiece. Let's give props to Simon and Garfunkel for the original. This song wouldn't have happened otherwise. Check out the studio version.
Touching on creating more than one sound with your voice, the singers I enjoy the most are those with multifaceted vocals. Particularly in rock and metal, where some are capable of both melodic singing and also fully distorted growls and screams. To me it keeps their performances dynamic and fresh, pivoting between multiple sounds.
A good friend had the unbelievable luck to be at the show that night, and he said the same thing. He also said the band got a 10 minute standing ovation!
David draiman is a professionally trained singer. His voice sounds incredible because he exercises it. I hate, HATE, when people critique this song without listening to the orignal by Simon & Garfunkel. Not only is the emotion different but so is the emotion.
"The Sound Of Silence" by Simon & Garfunkel 1966... have you ever heard the original? Simon highlighted Disturbed's version on his socials. Paul Simon heard Disturbed's cover of his Simon & Garfunkel classic "The Sound of Silence" - and he enjoyed it enough to reach out to singer David Draiman and tell him so. David doesn't use any autotune or elctronic voice trickes... he hates them. He was trained to be a Cantor LoL.... His Range is insane.
Cantor trained vocalists like David have a magical clarity, richness and power in their voices. Neil Diamond, another cantor trained vocalist, has/had a similar clarity and richness in his voice although I don't think he had the range and growl that David puts to such good use.
evryone who is reacted has had nothing but praise for his voice rightly so but what is more amazing is david was fighting a bad flu and had a fever during this performance
The thing about this version he was so sick. He like a fear of a hundred and two, but they forced him to sit down.. Because he wasn't not going to perform. This is the version Simon heard email Tim right away. She told him he had the song it was blown away by this version. What people don't know I watched give them do an interview david He's classically train because he wanted to be at candar. If you've never heard to call to prayer in synagogue, you're missing out.. Does how he's to get to those places it's the most beautiful haunting sound. Everybody thinks disturbed the screaming, it's not. He's the only person with the powerful screaming that I've heard that can actually control it. It's like it comes from his feet.
Great reaction as always, Justin. I was amazed when I first heard Disturbed's cover version of this song. He's a truly awe-inspiring singer. I have to admit, tho, that I'm a Pentaholic (PENTATONIX fan) for life so I obviously prefer their version of this song. However, he's right up there with them cos he's that good. Hopefully, Justin, you'll consider reacting to Pentatonix some time. They're the best Acapella group ever. As far as I'm concerned, they saved Accapella from extinction. Lots of love to you both. I think this song is a good example of the difference between 99% of people and a great vocalist. Anyone can talk technique, its like don king in boxing.
At the time of this recording he was running a 101 temperature and was sick as a dog. They wanted to move this to another date but he wouldn't have it .

Thats so great! David is such an amazing singer and I am glad people love their cover!
I am not surprised, he is phenomenal 🔥
Where did he say this? I’ve been trying to find his response to this
Wow
Never seen an actual real source for this. Seems like a rumor that stuck.
He has an unbelievable vocal range and every time I hear this song it simply amazes me
After hearing this 1000 times I still get goosebumps 😊

I noticed that this young hip couple didn't seem to react that way.
First time hearing it today , I love disturbed but I never heard this live version and I can say I’m addicted
Definitely!!
When God asked David "do you want to sound like an angel or devil ", he said yes.

David had the flu and a high fever when did this performance--that's why he was sitting down--but still knocked it out of the park!
