Hello. Ive just come across you by accident and Im so glad I did. I have ben watching another "Vocal Coach Reacts" Channel, The Charismatic Voice, for about 6 months now and She has introduced me to many bands and vocalists that i had not previously explored. I do enjoy her deep dives but she does go very deep and stops, starts, and rewinds a lot. this does desstroy much of the performance but that is not the purpose of her disections. Despite this she has given me much pleasure and I now have more music to explore than I have time for, which is great. Today, you have enabled me to discover another, and far greater pleasure. You have given me as much in one video as all the deep dives. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing "The Sound of Silence" for the first time and SHARING THAT EXPERIENCE WITH YOU! I had only heard 1 Disturbed track before, Down with the sickness, and that was not long ago on the Charismatic Voice channel. Your reactions are less technical and look more at the performance, feel and emotional effect and you save most of your reaction for afterwards. Im not sure if you were aware that your method would enable others to enjoy sharing a first listen with you so thought I would take the time to let you know just how much I enjoyed sharing that experience with you. Im not sure which of us was closer to tears :) Thank you.
Thank you so much for your comment! 😊
You hit the nail on the head with your description of my channel! I’m not a “vocal coach” and I never will be so I could never go to that level talking about the technical side and break down of each and every performance!
What I want to do is listen to a song for the FIRST TIME and simply enjoy it and share that experience with others like you! You can’t enjoy it if your stopping every 10 seconds to talk about the next thought you just had or to mention something in the video you have seen.
I wouldn’t even stop in the middle if it wasn’t for the fact the video would get blocked for copyright if I didn’t!
Thank you for watching and I’m so happy you enjoyed it! 😃
Craig
@@taylorfamilyreactions I will say you have too many commercials. Also, have you seen the version of this on Conan? I don’t know why but it’s better than this version they released. I think it’s because you can see the progression of the song better. I do enjoy and appreciate that you don’t stop often like others do. You’ve got a new follower. 🎉
Hearts live version in front of Led Zeppelin in my opinion is nearly at this level of brilliance
Still get shivers every single time
@@oopurpledove I disagree for the mere principle that the production team did David dirty by using auto-tune against his wishes; he was furious. With that said, it's still an amazing version considering how sick David was during the live show with Conan.
When this song came out, it received the greatest compliment a group can get when doing a cover. The original artist, Paul Simon, contacted David, lead singer for Disturbed, and told him that his song now belonged to Disturbed. I'm 70, so I was around for the original. Us old folks always thought the original was a warning about the direction society was headed. The first section of Disturbed's version evokes sadness that we hadn't heeded the warning and the last section was the anger at the direction society was still taking. Loved your reaction, keep them coming.
This version evokes such a debth to my soul and will play at my funeral 💔
This is an amazing cover. Another that pulls this off is Cash's Hurt cover.
this story is false... Paul does love this cover but he never reached out to Dramian to say that the song now belongs to him...
yes my friend, i always thought it was Paul preaching that technology would be the undoing of our communication. Its all similar....people just need to talk more. Ive actually SEEN people texting each other when they were LITERALLY sitting a few seats away....wtf
@Rogue Merlin 19....Im 52 and i remember playing with my matchbox cars in front of the stereo as my mother played this on the record player while she cleaned. There is no way that I can improve on what you commented. You interpretation is correct I think, and one is not better than the other. Rather Disturbed version is a continuation....still pissed off that we havent listened. I heard it was Paul Simons foresight that technology would distance human relatiions and i think that is correct. I once saw two friends texting each other yet they were sitting just a few seats away
This isn't a song. This isn't a cover. This is an experience.
When a song and vocalist can bring you to tears, that is the sign of an absolute master.
I think he himself burst into tears after his performance on Conan O'Brien's show. At least that's what I read.
Everyone cries at least once listening to this version. Epic!
Absolute truth! ❤
I cry E-VE-RY TIME!!!!!
"Heavy metal Singers can't really sing," they said... David Draiman: "Here, hold my 'OH-WAH-AH-AH-AH!!!'"
Omg yes!!!
Hahahaha
🤣YES!!!
haha Best comment! His voice is incredible!
Saw them in concert last night. The live version of this had me bawling with 10000 other people. ❤️
I've watched this video probably a 100 times and I cry every time. Blows me away every time.
Me: 400 hundred
I’ve watched like 20 reactions to this song, I’ll never get over the genuine enjoyment/emotion people get hearing it for the first time
I’m doing this now
I’ve gone down the rabbit hole too. Watched three reactions so far. I feel like I look like them every time I hear it.
I know I've watched a bunch too. The entire thing is brilliant
Me too!
No matter how many times I hear this version…I get chills. Disturbed did an amazing job. I love this song.
Same.
goosebumps, every damn time. I would be embarrassed to see how many times i've listened to this, and have been smacked in the face with it every time. @@JediChik1138
No one does it like disturbed it belongs to him .I too get chills and shed buckets of tears
Disturbed did not "turn it into a rock song". They revealed the rock song that it always was.
You're right. Not turned into a rock song. Disturbed turned a lovely harmonious folk song into one of the most powerfully emotive meaningful allegorical songs to define our culture.
Simon and Garfunkel have a Folk Song! Disturbed sang it as a Spiritual Song! They brought out the true meaning of all the words! They gave the song depth! Back in the 60's It was written and sung the way people were singing folk songs back then! But the words were meant as a warning and Disturbed brought that
out at a time when it is needed. That time is now! People should take this to heart.
Agreed
spot on!
So hardily agree with you! Its so easy to bebop your head and sing along to a tune, but truly understanding the lyrics is another story. So much Anger in his voice close to end, that is what I feel. "The words of the prophets written on the wall". It is a time to take heed of the Prophets! We need to realize the "people talking without speaking the people listening without hearing" that describes our technology and social media of today. It is time for all of us to wake up and realize what has been covered up in the sound of silence. @@mariesykes1049
Disturbed usually metal the hell out of their covers, but they wouldn't do it with this one. I can never hear this cover, without tearing up. Way beyond goosebumps.
Took me about 200 listens not to cry 😅
same
Listen to The sound of silence by Touch of Class with Ruhan du Toit - ua-cam.com/video/fQxG9E_Hf6Y/v-deo.html - Very very good
Always gives me goosebumps
😅
996 million views......Thank You For Posting This Video....David's Voice Was Meant For THIS Song ❤❤
Ive binge watched reactions to this song and its just so satisfying to see music professionals have that stunned, rabbit in the headlights looks on their faces. I get chills every time. 😂
Another thing to mention is how you shrink your picture to give the artist full exposure…. Such a humble action and a compliment to the artist. 🎉❤
Same. I cry along with everyone hearing Draiman’s performance for the first time.
The feeling most people mention is that Simon and Garfunkle sang a warning of things to come and Disturbed sang a feeling of anger that the warning was ignored. One song, done two ways with perfection, yet so different in meaning when done.
Truth. I feel the Anger. I believe that is why so many people get goosebumps and tear up. They may not realize at the time but it hits the soul because of what we are living through right now. He speaks to Darkness (prince of darkness?) at the beginning. The sound of silence (censorship of our voices) " People writing songs that they never share, they would never dare"
This version is much more powerful and full of meaning and emotion then any I've ever heard !!! It feels like an anthem for what's going on in the world today !!!!!
You should see the video of them on Conan O'brien. This was great but that one's incredible.
David has one of the most beautiful powerful voices ever. It’s hauntingly beautiful ✨
I grew up in the 50's & 60's and remember Simon and Garfunkels version, but Disturbed's version has touched my soul. No words to describe my emotions !
It stopped me in my tracks when I heard it the first time. It’s iconic. David Draiman has a phenomenal voice.
He has an incredible voice. It's powerful, but there are no hard edges. I was just thinking, you could butter toast with this voice, it's so smooth.
I get chills and cry EVERY time I listen to this version. I love Disturbed's version so so much..... it hits so deep every single time.
Same...its a spiritual experience
This is by far the most powerful and stunning version of this song.
The story goes, as has ben said, that David comes from an orthodox Jewish family and was actually trained as a cantor but chose to go into heavy metal rock music instead, which his grandfather was so angry about, he disowned him, although I understand the two did manage to make up and reconcile all their differences before his grandfather passed away, thank God. What an extraordinary voice he has. What a range, and what amazing control. No wonder the official video has over 770 million views and still growing! Lovely reaction to this superb version of a classic song from the '60's. I had the same reaction as you when I first heard it a few years ago.
I liked the Pentatonix version. But this song belongs to Disturbed. Nothing can touch it after this amazing version.
I don't like the lady from Pentatonix her voice, she ruins that version to me.
The boys voices I like, but I wouldn't buy any record.
This song is written in the 60's for Disturbed/David..........only Paul Simon didn't know that that many years ago lol.
David owns this song, no one can ever beat this cover, ever.
I purposely avoided listening to this song because I'm a huge Disturbed fan and I'm also familiar with the original song. Disturbed is a metal band and I couldn't wrap my head around them covering the song. If I'm completely honest, I can't say that I'm a fan of the original. I don't hate it. It just never grabbed my attention! And then comes Disturbed's version! I was driving home from work the first time I heard it. I actually had to pull over. When the song ended I was in tears and I didn't know why. I also felt an urgency to do "something", but I didn't know what. Maybe the emotions come from the lyrics, "people talking without speaking. People hearing without listening." We all do that with our cell phones and emails. And then the line "and the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made". Which I interpret as being the cell phones and computers. And then I realized these lyrics were written in the 60s!!!
Exactly! I wrote a post on my FB page about a month ago about this song talking about cell phones! I had just woke up and was sitting in the dark drinking a cup of coffee, and said to myself "hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk to you again". Then I was going over the lyrics in my mind, and it hit me, this song is about cell phones and texting and the people bowing over the lit up screen. I called it a "Man made, hand held, neon God". And it was written in the 60's because there was "A vision softly creeping, left its seed while I was sleeping" referring to the future. Anyway, I was glad to read your post about this!
Thank you very much for posting such awesome words. I'm reaching out to you as a fellow Disturbed fan and to say that I felt the same when I first heard it. You are amazing, never stop being so. Thanks again for your kind and inspiring words.
An angel at the beginning, by the end it is...An Angel filled with Righteous Wrath.
Fools, said I, You do not know
Silence like a cancer grown
Hear my words that I may teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like the silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
The passion of the song has been elevated by Disturbed! It's a paradigm shift. Pure brilliance.
I am still in awe of David's voice, I am not a massive Disturbed fan but this cover was Epic, you can tell that he was Classically trained.
❤ his brother is also an opera singer ❤❤
Every time I listen to this song, it feels like the first time listening to it. AMAZING.
The best reaction to Disturb's recording of Hello Darkness My Old Friend, so sincere. Thank you.
Just the best performance. Touching your soul
Every time I listen to it I get goosebumps. This version is just uncredible
Disturbed is probably the most versatile bands you will ever listen to. Their vocalist, David Draiman, is ranked in the top 100 vocalist of all time. The official live video on the Conan show of The Sound of Silence was nominated for a Grammy which is also an amazing performance on UA-cam. They are a heavy metal band, but their music reaches everyone. My 18 year old granddaughter was amazed to learn that I am a fan of one of her favorite bands that she thought only did head banger music. She was in shock when she heard that I made arrangements for one of Disturbs songs to be sung at my funeral. When she heard “Hold on to Memories” (ua-cam.com/video/6Q0sMOQvJuw/v-deo.html) we both cried since she lost her mother last year. They do this at each concert with a back drop to share their lost loved ones and other memories. They are the best when they do a cover while still honoring the original, but yet changing the meaning of the song. Their most recent cover is “If Ever I Lose My Faith In You” originally done by Sting (ua-cam.com/video/KY8E-O7LCog/v-deo.html) released in September, 2020 that changes the meaning of the song from a love song to struggling to maintain faith in yourself during this difficult time of COVID. They are also advocates in the fight of depression, drug abuse and suicide in which they perform at each concert for the love of their fans “A Reason To Fight” (ua-cam.com/video/gRGRduyCy_M/v-deo.html). At 72 I have put going to a Disturbed concert with my granddaughter on my bucket list. Disturbed is a band for everyone.
I just love it when those of us that are carrying big numbers for our young age....are so open minded we can appreciate the artist, songs written, as well as the deeper underlying message of a band. Such as Disturbed/David Draiman. I am 64, TSOS is my nightly Lullaby. I am most definitely a fan. David is a very kind and caring soul.
@@christinanavarre8389 I love this band. I’m 73. Tbh, I didn’t care for S&G at the time. I’m more a hard rock fan and they were too mellow for me. But Disturbed has taken this tune to a whole new level. While I don’t do the concert circuit the way I used to, 3 summers ago I saw Daughtry, 2 summers ago, OneRepublic. I thought that was probably it for me and concerts, but I get chills thinking about hearing this band live. So I guess I’m not done with the concert scene yet.
Definitely go with your granddaughter to one of their concerts!! My son's first concert was Disturbed for his 13th birthday and he is about to be 16. The memories are still favorites! This song will remain forever etched as perfection! The silence across the entire stadium except for the band is profound.
Disturbed is amazing live. I’ve seen them at least 3 times and Dave Draiman always steps it up.
You MUST see Disturbed live. I have seen them live several times, and they never disappoint. David Draiman is the consummate front man for a band. His demeanor is as grand and proud (though not cocky) as his vocal prowess and resonance is.
If you get a chance, you should search UA-cam for a video I watched several years ago (or I would have included the link- sorry) where Draiman discusses his background, including his family and former employment. You might be quite surprised.
Definitely recommend seeing them live. I will carry those performance memories to my grave.
You felt it! That tingle you get when you he hit those notes The absolute best cover. 🤘🏻🤘🏻❤️
hell Yes
Totally! Every time I hear ' the people bowed and PRAYED' is the most beautiful moment that speaks to the soul
I accidently heard Disturbed Sound of Silence when it was added at the end of Coast-to-Coast talk show. I remember crying first time I heard it and thinking I would NEVER have looked for a better version of Simon & Garfunkel's original. Although I am 66 years old, and NOT a hard-rock fan, I have a new favorite song by a band that would never be on my radar. Just goes to show, you can teach an old dog... David's vocals and the band Disturbed are outstanding with supreme pitch coupled with passion throughout. I was equally impressed when I watched them do this live on Conan Obrien. Two words best describe my feelings about this version of a favorite from the past, BLOWN AWAY.
Best reaction to this version I've seen. I too was blown away the first time I heard it, gives me chills every time. Paul Simon has given it his approval, no mean feat.
This is less a cover, more an experience. They are normally a metal band, but they slayed this. Another of their less metal songs that is well worth a listen is Hold On To Memories. Very moving.
Loved your reaction!
I discovered Disturbed because of this cover. It was a moving experience seeing the performance on Conan and their video for the first time. Hold on to Memories is an absolute favorite of mine. I'm not into metal bands, but Disturbed has made me a fan. I prefer the more melodic ballads, also Into the Light, and they run in my mind at random moments!
I agree with you. I prefer the live video over the official music video of Hold On To Memories. It pays tribute to so many artists we have lost and to Disturbed’s journey through the years. It’s a good song. It helps me think of the loved ones I have lost.
I also prefer the live show of Sound of Silence with Miles Kennedy along with the Conan live performance. I know David was sick for the Conan performance but I think he nailed it. I prefer it over the studio version.
@classic Rock Lady - very well put. You’re right - this is an experience! I love watching these reviews - it’s almost as good as listening to it for the first time because of the stunned looks on all the faces! I cried the first time I heard it….
@@shaunstein5646 yes, I love the version with Myles Kennedy. Totally awesome. I wish I’d been there.
The lead singer for Disturbed, David Draiman, was classically trained. I am glad he did this song because it shows how amazing his voice is. He sounds great in their normal metal genre, but this really brings it out. I also like their video The Light. It's heavy, but easier to listen to than Down with the Sickness.
Totally agree. It's a great video and message. I'm a huge Disturbed fan, I truly love every one of their songs including Down With The Sickness but I don't understand why people try to get reactors to go straight to that particular song knowing they don't know what to expect. There are so, so many songs from their 20+ years as a band that will show newbies what Disturbed is all about, not the least of which is 7 or 8 other cover songs. I'm all for winning over a new metal convert 🤘 but there are times when a little finesse goes a long way. The Light is a great song to start with. A Reason to Fight, Stricken, and really anything from their Evolution album as well. I'm also partial to Ten Thousand Fists (song & album) and Indestructible.
I love the Evolution album as well. I also love the Indestructible album. There are too many songs to name that are favorites of mine. From those albums, Ten Thousand Fists and Immortalized. I also long a lot of the songs from the Believe album, especially Darkness.
@@michellemiles9966 I'm a convert to disturbed after hearing them do TSOS and I particularly love their song Hold onto the Memories. It makes me cry every time.
Not necessarily "classically" trained, as it's currently defined; but he was trained as a Jewish temple cantor.
Both his father and grandfather were temple cantors, and he was expected to continue the family tradition.
Instead, he brought his training and talent to the entire world.
I have probably listened to this at least 100 times if not more and never tire of it. The warning in the song could not be made any more clear that what David did and it always gives me chills and feels. My second favorite song of theirs is The Light which is also major feels. Most of their music tells a story and many contain relevant messages. They are an awesome band.
David has a flawless voice no other can compare. I feel God's rage in this rendition thanks to David. Those goosebumps we feel are God's spirit touching us. Many may say ; No this is dark , maybe evil . I say this is God and quite likely the best voice God has ever created. Thanks David
I have loved the original version of this song for decades...I still do...but these guys took it to the new level. Is one of the most amazing performances I've ever heard.
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. Not my thing but their version of this song has been an eye opener! They have a newer song out called “Hold onto Memories” it is a beautiful song.
Yes another of my favourite of Disturbed ❤❤😊
I would also recommend “The Light”. It is heavier but still holds great power and emotion.
A reson to fight is another awesome one with them.
I intend having that played at my funeral! Perfect!
I’m informed my family that “Hold Onto Memories” is one of the songs I want at my funeral.❤
Best cover of a song ever. He brought the true meaning and emotion of what this song represents. First time I ever saw it I cried for quite awhile. David is an amazing singer. Your one of the few that I think really understood and was touched by the meaning of it. Ty for such a heartfelt reaction. New subscriber 👍
AMEN !
i think it is on a same level as johnny cashs hurt cover
I think it's slightly edged out by Johny Cash's Hurt
This should be played ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! ❤❤😢😢😢❤😢
David & Disturbed have turned Paul Simon’s beautiful song into an anthem for our time. Magnificent!
Absolutely NO way to compare an Acapella to a heavy metal tune! Yet in their own unique way both brought forth a powerful message! MY personal pick is Disturbed, that escalation stanza by stanza, can STILL bring me to tears, though I've heard it 100+ times!!
The first time I heard this version I cried. It is s powerful and beautiful.
I've probably heard it 1000 times and it still brings both tears and goosebumps to me every time I hear it
My kids hear me singing along just about every day
This is my absolute favorite song/version of all time, and I’m 63 yrs old. Loved your reaction.
I have lost count of how many times i've listened to Disturb's version of this song...but everytime I do it's like i'm hearing it for the first time...it evokes such emotion with it's beauty and power, that I shed a tear or three each time. I absolutely love it ❤
Same. Goosebumps every time.
This brought tears to my eyes bc of the power and strength of which it was sung. It was beautifully done
Love your reactions dude. You will hear this a lot, you need to check out the live version from the Conan broadcast. My favorite version as well.
I agree. The Conan performance was great. So is the live performance with Miles Kennedy. They are both really good.
My favorite as well. I'm going to watch it right now 🙂
@@shaunstein5646 Yes! absolutely the best with Myles Kennedy!
Yes the Conan version is the best one

♥ The Sound of Silence
Simon & Garfunkel: We are warning you.
Disturbed: We were warned and now look.
Pentatonix: We were warned, but it'll be okay.
Disturbed took on a song that was folk music and turned it into an EPIC version!!!! Absolutely mind blowing voice and interpretation of a classic!!!!!
That was probably the most passionate reaction I have seen to this song. Well done, Sir! Your reaction encapsulates what a lot of us feel.
After seeing this version I became a fan of DISTURBED at 60 ... I seek out these reactions... the LIGHT, STRICKEN, PRAYER , IF I EVER LOSE MY FAITH , REASON TO FIGHT, HOLD ON TO THE MEMORIES, ARE YOU READY
Snap I feel same I'm 66 & only started listening few years ago after listening to him sing thus song, now I have several cd's. 💕
I could tell by your facial reactions that this version of "The Sound of Silence" hit you in the feels! I've listened to it hundreds of times and I still get choked up when the music swells and David lifts his voice. Disturbed has a large catalog to choose from. They've done several "covers " that are also fantastic. I would recommend you check out Disturbed's version of Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You." And one of my favorite of their own songs, "Prayer."
I love DISTURBED! This song still gives me the chills after all these years and listening to it hundreds of times. David Draiman is beyond words.
I have heard Disturbed version of Sound of Silence several dozen times now. It always makes me cry. It's so beautiful and at the same time, tragic. So spiritual. I will probably listen to this a million times.
Craig, after seeing Disturbed’s version, Paul Simon said they now owned this song. I love the original, but I have to say that this is my favorite version. So much so, that I’m not listening to anyone else’s cover of this song. He just does something to this song. For me, he made me feel every word that he sang. Absolutely amazing!
Hope you and your family are doing better health wise.
Happy New Year
Paul Simon never said any such thing. He said he liked it, that was all.
@@jedislap8726 You are correct. I misunderstood what I read.
“Paul Simon has heard Disturbed's cover of his Simon & Garfunkel classic "The Sound of Silence" - and he enjoyed it enough to reach out to singer David Draiman and tell him so.”
@@LadyGator1983 You may have been confusing it with what Trent Reznor said about Johnny Cash's version of Hurt.
…WOW… that is incredible
Disturbed is a heavy metal band. The singer, David Draimon, was trained as a cantor. Paul Simon, after hearing this version, said the song now belongs to them. No greater praise than that.
Thank you for being you...a beautiful man with a loving soul.💗
My favorite version and gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Best version of this song ever the vocal was unbelievable
Disturbed's version of this classic always makes me want to cry. The original message hits so much more painfully now.
I never get tired of watching reaction videos to this song. The calm start as people settle into watching and listening and then the raw powerful transition about mid way. I love when I can truly tell the reaction the song is having on someone (just like you) at the precise point where you become incapable of speaking and all you can do it watch and listen as your eyes start to tear up. That's when I know I'm watching someone who is truly listening to the song and feeling it. What a story it tells as well especially given everything going on in the world today. Thank you for letting us witness your journey along the many complexities of this amazing rendition.
When I first heard this, my reaction was "This was the way Sound of Silence was meant to be sung". The lyrics are probably even more appropriate for this day and age.
I'm so glad you did this! I figured you would get it and be impacted. Disturbed's normal metal style isn't really your cup of tea (although the lyrics are usually incredibly meaningful and powerful when you pick them apart and David Draiman's voice and technique are still stunning), but there are a few of their songs you would appreciate for reactions. Their cover of Sting's, "If Ever I Lose My Faith In You," is beautiful and the video is just as artistic. A closer flavor to their normal style that is super powerful with yet another artistic video is, "A Reason To Fight." "Hold Onto Memories," is also one I could see you reacting to. David Draiman has the most glorious voice and was trained as a cantor performing liturgical singing. Even in the deepest metal they do, you can understand almost every word and that voice is the melodic foundation with distortion over the top.
Fair warning: A lot of people will suggest, "Down With The Sickness," which was one of their earliest hits from the early 2000s and if you get the radio edit version, you might quite like it, even though it's very different from this. I can't, in any way, see you doing the unedited lyrics version for a reaction, though. There's a section that's absolutely brutal and nothing you would air. However, no matter how brutal, still meaningful, just not for your channel and its followers. I do hope you check out the others I suggested, though. Who knows, maybe you're a closet metal head? 😉
I agree with A Reason to Fight 100%! For those that don't know, David Draiman lost a girlfriend to suicide when he was 16 I believe. Hold On To Memories and the cover of If I Ever Lose My Faith in You are very powerful.
The song is stunning and I will never forget the mass shooting of police officers in Dallas. Dave's version was played when the officers were taken on their final ride to the hospital, anytime a clip of the shooting was shown and literally became the "voice" of Dallas officers. Our generation has grown up with this version and Dave makes it sound like a sad warning. That it will keep happening if we don't disturb the silence.
I absolutely adore everything about David Draiman. Brilliant musician. Heart of gold. He’s just the absolute greatest. ❤❤❤
This song still hits me like that after years of listening to it. So powerful and moving
I grew up listening to this song by Simon & Garfunkel & have always loved it. I had a lot of their records. Many people have covered this song. Disturbed's version is a much darker take on this song. Peter Hollens & Tim Foust (from Home Free) do a great version of this song. Their voices complement each other perfectly & the layering of their voices is amazing. I hope you will check it out.
I feel like disturbed changed the vibe of the song. Simon and Garfunkel version is sad, there's a lot of despair. Disturbed brought more anger, and I think it really speaks to the generational differences between the two bands. When the original was written there was still a lot of hopefulness for the future despite the bleak outlook, whereas now the hope is more or less gone. It's a completely different song from disturbed because of the emotions behind the performance, it really changes the message
David Draiman is the lead singer of Disturbed. Most of their music is Metal. Rough and growly. But he completely blew me away with the cover of this song. It is BEAUTIFUL. I know he has been classically trained and it really shows in this song!
Im 47 and grew up listening to this song and all of S&G songs. I heard many covers of Sounds of Silence and none ever came close to the original and I always said no song ever would. Then I heard this song. Like Paul said, this song now belongs to Disturbed. It is simply... Epic.
It may happen, but for me, don't think anyone is ever going to top their cover of this song. I'm a pentaholic and I love PTX cover also, but man this always leaves me speechless.
I guess that I have to disagree. I just cannot warm up to this rendition of the song. And honestly, the fact that the singer has body piercings is exceptionally off putting to me as well.
If you would do "Down with The sickness" by Disturbed I think it would be amazing! Only because I don't think they are your cup of tea. But it is a great representation of the type of music and band they are.
Yesssssss!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Or "Prayer" or "Stricken" to ease him into it.
But do the full version, not the watered down official video….

Oh boy …..😹😹😹
@@mindycatriz5195 Or Oh Mummy? LOL!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG W/ DISTURBED!!! BLEW ME AWAY
It's so beautiful, expresses the rage of the people. They don't and never will listen.
I've been a fan of Disturbed for a long while now... and yes his voice is incredible... and the message they convey often... even more so... some of their music just .... touches you... deep inside. I listen to this... with the ears of someone who grew up listening to the original... and I love this every bit as much if not more. Listening to this often moves me to tears and fills me with goosebumps. If you want to listen to more disturbed... while many will say start with "Down with the Sickness"... I would say no... start with "Inside the Fire" though prepare yourself with a klenex box handy... and then maybe do "Vengeful One"... then go from there... now me I still love "Fear" it is still my favorite though not as well known.
Inside the fire is what I request to be the encore of these reactions. I have mentioned that every song can invoke different meanings/feelings from one individual to another. We both love inside the fire. IT spurns sadness for u . For me anger. That’s the beauty of music
For those who don't know Inside The Fire is about a girlfriend who he lost to suicide when I believe he was 16. It is a very powerful song
@@amyyampanis7327 It is... but it is that which you can feel in the emotion of the song when he recorded it. Which the passion he puts into the songs is what I really love about the band. You can really feel it in his voice when he sings.
The first song I heard by Disturbed was Indestructible about 12-ish years ago, when I was very ill, and I adopted Indestructible and Down With The Sickness as my fight to survive songs! They worked - I'm still here!
Them lyrics & voice is one perfect conection of feelings Sr.I always cry it.
His voice begins like a gentle rain with looming clouds on the horizon, builds slowly to a down pour, crescendos into a raging storm, then finally gives us a little peak of the sun as the rain eases back to a gentle mist.
When you paused and said it was a "very nice cover," I wanted to yell, "JUST WAIT!"
In my opinion, no one does it better than David Draiman....what an amazing voice. The man can sing anything. Can go from clear as a crystalline bell to vocal fry and back on a dime......sooo impressive! Also love the tonal properties of his voice....have never heard any like his before!
A big like for you…1 interruption…
I love watching reaction videos of songs I love…However, this cover by ‘Disturbed’ always gets stopped for reaction just as it’s building to a new level…99% of male reactors have done this so far, and I have to be honest and descriptive here…
It’s like the act of physical love being expressed and you are in a rhythmic flow toward a beautiful climax and suddenly…
your 6 yo. is knocking on the bedroom door…🙄🫤
With you I was able to ignore that knock…😉

Hi Lily, I have never had such a “honest & descriptive” like this before! It really made me laugh! 🤣
This is definitely getting pinned comment status!!
I agree with you Lily ❤️ I love watching reaction videos and especially of this song but my head is always screaming 'Don't pause it you'll ruin it!' every time people do that, because they won't get the same experience I did when watching it for the first time. This video was so much more honest and raw and perfectly sums up how I felt when I heard it for the first time. I personally wouldn't mind it if everyone who made these reaction videos started out with people just watching the songs from start to finish without interruptions and then watched it again and paused it at the places they wanted to talk about 🥰 Thank you for your comment and thank you Taylor Family Reactions for this video ❤️🤗❤️
@@Harder1s Thanks! I agree…There were a few I found that did just as you suggested…Not a word, or pause until the end, and I found them to be the best reactions having listened all the way through…I too found myself thinking No, no, no….Don’t stop the music…Then I actually was speaking out loud…lol…That’s what prompted me to write the descriptive comment…TBH, it does sum up perfectly how it made me feel when they stop right when I know it’s going somewhere even greater!
Nice commenting with you! Perhaps I’ll see you around more reaction videos…
Blessings!

From what I've read, reactors often do this to avoid any claims of copyright to the original. The thinking being that if it's played straight through it isn't sufficiently "new".
I don't quite get it though, you are watching a reaction video but are upset when they pause to react? Climax on the original and expect your 6yo to knock on the door when watching a reaction video.
I will never tire from seeing someone getting sucked into the Disturbed vortex!
It WAS originally a rock song. I was there when it came out. But I absolutely LOVE Disturbed's version. Soooo much powerful and appropriate emotion. I cry almost every time I watch the video.
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkle and love them.. I always felt it was a warning about media and politics that ruled everything and that eventually people lost a voice in everything...Disturbed brings it forward decades..People still haven't learned anything and the warning is still there ..I call this the angry version..it sure gets your attention.the video is awesome the one group of people go around collecting up the discarded instruments the second group is writing the music then at the end they are on a ship trying to unite..awesome visuals that only Draiman could add to.. David Draiman was trained in classical music he has one of the most beautiful, powerful voices I have ever heard...you should watch the version they do on Conan ..Even though Draiman was sick with the flu he is priceless in the performance
David is actually an incredible human being, and this man's right.... his voice is just effortlessly relaying this song from his head to our ears, as if he's simply speaking. beautiful
What he said about speaking and music is coming out reminded me of this quote. "Singing is speaking in cursive"
This is one of the very few songs I will NOT get tired of listening to. David's voice just grabs you and you cant help but get emotional. Love your reaction💖
Happy New Year!
Disturbed version is phenomenal. They are asking us to heed the warning Simon and Garfunkel told us about and people aren't listening to that warning. David gets bold and gives a harsher warning. Always a fan of Disturbed and was around for Simon and Garfunkel....I believe Disturbed is demanding everyone's attention as they go from calm to anger in the vocals. Love this cover as much as, or even more than the original.
Even Paul Simon praised it and told David it was the best cover he ever heard and told him it’s his song now
Reviewer pauses: "He has great tone." Me: "He's in 1st gear, just wait for OVERDRIVE. David will melt your soul!"
I LOVE watching the expressions on the faces of first time listeners of David Draiman and Disturbed. I’ve seen one or two moved to tearing up. David is also amazing to hear him speak during an interview. So open and friendly. Well spoken and well schooled. I just olive him and share the hell out of this video!
I love the emotion in "and the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made". This was so true..and so real..this was done excellently.
That man bring out every emotion that you ever had out of your soul, you can't help it, the tears just appears.
I get cascades of chills from scalp to heels EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I listen to this.
Another amazing song by Disturbed is Hold Onto Memories. (Official video)
My favorite version of this song the visuals taught me what this songs really about just awesome musicians on one side and writers on the other just amazing glad you liked
His voice is out of this world never fails to move me xx
As someone who grew up with the Simon and Garfunkel song I had the same reaction as you. It was hard to describe! Lord have mercy.
Paul Simon a writing genius Art Garfunkel sings like a Angel! A Brilliant Song..
Disturbed and David singing - Classic Masterpiece
I have always loved this song but after hearing this by Disturbed I will never listen to it by anyone else it is beyond beautiful. It is a powerful version and deeply moving. Bravo to Disturbed.
In an interview Paul Simon said that Disturbed sang the song the way it was meant to be sung, Paul said he didn’t have the right voice to sing it the way it was meant to be.
It leaves you speechless. I'm 70 & I have listened to this so many times as it is so powerful. Love love love this so much. ❤❤❤
