Conan O’Brien stated in an interview that in the 20 years of his show’s run, that was the first time a music act not only left the audience in stunned silence but also his crew. Even crew members who worked ‘backstage’ stopped what they were doing and silently stood around the stage to watch and listen. And to think Draiman performed with a lesion on a vocal cord…
David had the flu, not a lesion on the vocal cord.
I can believe it. It's powerful.
absolutely beautiful!!! I have listened to this over and over, everytime it moves me to tears. Thank you Disturbed
Amazing ❤
@@foxymacadoo - actually it was the vocal cord. I saw an interview with David where he said that.
The best thing I've heard about disturbed version is Simon and Garfunkels version was a warning an disturbed version is the rage for the warning being ignored
Pentatonix’s version is considered the hope for the future
I love this version because of the cognitive dissonance he actually mentions in the video here. One is one version of the song shares the warning, one shares the rage for people ignoring the warning, and according to another reply here a third version is the hope that people will stop ignoring the warning. This song makes me think of that concept of feeling like you are screaming at the top of your lungs, but you never make a f****** sound or nobody can hear you if you do. That's the feeling I get from this song, and that's why I love it so much. I love it light years more than Simon and Garfunkel's just because of that sound.
Love that description. It's what I felt but couldn't explain.
Well said❤
Geoff Castalucci did an amazing low bass cover that’s been described as the sorrow version
Goosebumps every time I hear this verson.
David trained to be a Cantor before becoming a rock star. In Judaism, a cantor sings solo verses during prayer, to which the congregation responds. It's a very demanding & technical type of singing.
Yeah, it's that cantor training, I think, that just informs the sheer DEPTH of David's ballad approach. Breathtaking.
I had no idea. Thanks for the info ... explains the depth of his talent.
Same. Goosebumps every time I hear it
Yep
All that is absolutely correct! But, during a Disturbed break, David decided to go back to basics and took vocal lessons in operatic range so that he wouldn't damage his vocal cords any further.
To think he was actually down with a sickness when singing this too is insane. The video for it is just as amazing.
ziiiiiiiiing
ba-dum-tss!
Yes! I just wrote that.. glad I heard right!!
Haha 😂down with the sickness 😂😂😂was going to men😢the flu and fever but this was bette4❤❤😊
Unfortunately they did use it (they say the experts can clearly hear it) & allegedly he was mighty pissed off, because he nailed it and any 'wobbles' were ironically causes by the AT - the producers didn't want to take any chances because he was so ill, tho. Paul Simon himself reached out & said it was the best version he'd ever heard - so, any other praise is just gravy...@@PatricKelly-xb2ir
This is why Simon said this song is yours. Absolutely phenomenal
He also said that he was getting flack from Garfunkel for doing that but he wrote the song by his self (Simon) at his house, so that left nothing to argue about
That's also fake news. Simon never said that, it's just something the internet invented.
@@gupiwa who are you commenting on?
@@rubyfuselier2925 He did not give them the song. But he did say he liked it and linked to it from his web page.
I believe Disturbed's cover is the best. It was amazing that Paul Simon called or texted David after this performance to tell him how proud he was that David put out the meaning that was meant to be. You should check out the actual video of this song. It really gives David's (Disturbed's) meaning. It starts out like a musical graveyard, very silent. Hope you watch it. Loved your reaction ❤
Paul Simon also told David that the song was his now.
I love both versions of the song. Though I put the other on repeat so I can get to sleep at night.
for what it's worth teddy, I came to this video knowing I'd cry again - happens every time. Hard to not get emotional the way David portrays the pain.
We’re here with you! Happens to us all apparently!
When I saw them live a couple months ago there wasn't a dry eye in the house. It was amazing
SAME!
Same here.
I don’t think there will ever be a better cover of sound of silence. His voice and rendition was just so perfect for this. I can’t imagine anyone being able to do this in the same way
In the same way that Johnny Cash's version of Hurt is now the definitive version, Disturbed own Sound of Silence.
I agree
This is about the 30th time watching people react. It still gives me goosebumps and tears in my eyes. I don't listen to Disturbed. And I've heard this song on the radio a million times. I heard it but apparently I never got it. When Disturbed does this, it makes me pissed off. Or hurt? It should be our anthem.
Iggnant, yep, I've lost count of how many "reaction" videos I've watched to this song. Amazing every time!
❤
this IS the most powerful, emotive, haunting version you'll ever hear! nobody can ever tell me they've heard a better version because i'll never believe them!
I love Disturbed cover The Sound of Silence. Simon and Garfunkel had talked about that this is the best cover of their song. What’s more amazing was during this live show David was very sick and he still sounded this amazing and clear.
This is the first time I've listened to this song since it was played at my dad's funeral. I've been avoiding it for 6 years. Disturbed were my dad's favourite band & when they released this song we instantly knew it was meant for dad. I don't know if I'm ready to watch the performance directly yet, but I am glad I watched your reaction to it... like gently easing myself back in.
Sending you hugs during your grief. May the message of your dad, and this song, span the chasms of time and space ... and be heard.
❤@@LaraYost
Something even more impressive about this performance is that David was actually sick with some sort of respiratory illness when he did this performance. He himself has said that he can hear how congested he was through the whole thing... I 100% recommend that you go watch the official music video, because it's AMAZING. Both vocally and visually.
He was with flu
He actually had lesions on his vocal chords and was putting off surgery because it could have ended his career if something went wrong during the surgery. Lesions are painful and David is a legend with his voice!
Chills.... every time I hear them sing this song.
I loved this reaction Teddy, your face while reacting to this kind of music always gives me joy! Thank you for the sincere reaction!
Your reaction to my reaction is always better! 🫶
You should check out “Inside the Fire”. Great song great video.
@@RxDoc2010 As much as I agree, let's not give this man clinical depression... just yet
Congratulations sir, you win the best reaction to this I have seen. And I've watched dozens of them, I'm one of many that look for new reactions to this every now and then (because we can't watch it for the first time ourselves again so we want to watch others experience it for the first time)
Wow, thank you I appreciate it!
It gives me chills every time I get to see someone's genuine reaction to David's pure voice. He's is an insanely talented artist.
That song originally written in the 60s was waaay ahead of its time. Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written. 😍
Simon and Garfunkel sang it as a warning, David sang it as an accusation.
Exactly
Sit in a room in the dark, close your eyes and play this song. You feel it even more in your soul
"That was a feeling" -- so much yes.
Paul Simon, after hearing this version, said to David Draiman that this is his song now!
Its mind blowing how beautiful his voice is. He is truly talented. Mad respect. I've always loved Disturbeds music. This is a new level of respect.
Teddy, I can tell just how much you were feeling this song because of how you DIDN’T stop it while listening. It is a very powerful song and absolutely emotional every time I hear it. They are my absolute favorite band! David is amazingly talented.
I absolutely loved the original song by Simon and Garfunkel, so I wasn't thrilled when I heard Disturbed, of all bands, had done a cover. I cannot tell you how many times I have watched this performance. I still get goose bumps every time. They did an AMAZING job! This song is still so relevant and I just love what they did with it. ❤❤ It's as if Simon and Garfunkel issued a gentle reminder and Disturbed are screaming an urgent warning.
Someone else may have already commented on this, but David Draiman was sick during this performance. He had some sort of flu and running a high fever. It makes the performance all the more amazing to me. I do think the MV with its images is even more powerful. It’s one of my all time favorite MVs of any genre.
Because he was sick he was extremely unhappy with his performance, he is a classically trained vocalist!!!!!
Yes Teddy you should react to the studio version with the video! It is an experience of art. 👌🏼
He peeved at some point too coz someone used auto tune. He still pushed on. True perforner
Was he down with the sickness?
You've got to do" the light"!!! The most powerful song I've heard by any band of any genre!!
I’ve been playing that on repeat before work lol.
The Light has been a go-to of mine several times in the past 15 months to keep me alive.
Loved this reaction... This performance was absolutely unreal! So many have no idea of the true brilliance of David Draiman's voice!
alot of rock / metal singers sound AMAZING in this type of accoustic/slow songs , their voices are so unique and powerfull compared to pop singers , yet so beautifull
Yeah, to pull off Metal in particular, one usually needs a reasonable degree of vocal training, otherwise you will kill your voice in short order
Ive found that singers with the most beautiful voices tend to be ones that scream. When you find a song where they sing, it's amazing. I think because it takes a lot of talent to pull off that grit sound.
Don't forget this was a live performance as well. So many bands you hear live don't sound the same as on cd or radio. His voice is phenomenal.
David is a classically trianed cantor, he has an amazing voice no matter what he sings
Fellow STAY here!! I absolutely love the way Disturbed brought the frustration out in this song. Beautiful song. Beautiful cover. Your reaction is mine the first time I heard this.
The first time I heard this cover, I was at work and it came on the radio. I’ve been a Disturbed fan for a little over a decade and it was not a song I ever expected them to cover. I was very grateful to have been closing the store on my own because I was did tear up listening to it. There’s so much emotion in this cover and it’s so striking.
I grew up on S&G. I’ve probably known this song as long as any. I FREAKING LOVE this version. Amazing!
This version always makes me tear up😢. Amazing. David always is fenomial
People say I'm hard faced sometimes, but this version gave me the chills and made me cry.. I don't think it can be done any better by anyone
David Drainman has such a phenomenal voice. Disturbed's song "The Light" is another one that shows off his range and talent, not to mention one hell of a message. Also "A Reason to Fight" is another one that just will blow you away. Sound of Silence is one of my all time favorite songs, and i love their cover of it. Disturbed is definitely rock /metal, don't get me wrong, but they do have some others where they just slow it down, peel it back and just leave you feeling raw like "Hold on to the Memories" which was written as a way of them trying to console those dealing with grief.
Now harder stuff from them, "Down with the Sickness" was a good start, but theres "Indestructible", "Ten Thousand Fists", "Prayer", "Bad Man", "Only the Best Ones Lie", "Inside the Fire", I could go on and on lol. Regardless, I hope you enjoy your journey into metal and rock!
Rap fans are always amazed by actual music
This cover always gives me chills. And it's even more meaningful watching the actual video as well
Paul Simon actually said that this is his favorite version of the song!!!
This is the best version of this song. The vocal quality along with the orchestrated background is genius and brings out the meaning of the words. A triumph.
This is THE best cover of anything ever. Goosebumps every time I hear it.
Tears in my eyes every time I listen to this version.
Mad ❤. Wtf? U can sing my guy!
Don't worry my friend, each of us has reacted the same way, with tears, and goosebumps, and mentally stunned. Welcome to the club. Loved your honesty and vulnerability. And that you recognized David Draiman's incredible skill and vocal ability. I have subscribed.
YESSSSSSSSS!! Ok so now that I've finished watching. First, this is my first time hearing/watching him do it live and it HITS DIFFERENT!!! I CRIED! Second, I have been dying to watch you react to this song by this band. The POWER in that third verse when he adds that GRIT to his voice just 🤌😭🥶
I was fortunate enough to see this performed live on Australia's Got Talent. It was absolutely amazing to FEEL this song being performed how it was. I still get chills at the start of the last verse every time
Ive seen this cover probably 100 times since it erupted into the light. Without fail i get goosebumps and choked with emotion. His voice does the lyrics such justice. Once again you share your raw and unfiltered expressions and its beautiful like always.
I cry, as a 57 year old man every time I hear this rendition...so powerful.I remember so fondly how my mom (who has since passed away) and me regaling about how beautiful Dave Draimond's version is.
I'll admit after all these years i still have fucking tears. Emotions through the whole body
One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. I can watch it over and over
For any of you wondering, here’s a link to the cover of ‘The Sound of Silence’ that first got me hooked on the song! ua-cam.com/video/48ctczjFdQE/v-deo.htmlsi=JXPMlNgnUYjY5ONn - if you do end up listening to it, come back to this comment and let me know what you think to it! 🫶
Havent heard this version before. I found the slowe pace of this one makes it sadder more sorrowful. Where as i find the Penatonix verion to be more uplifting and All Angels version to be peacefull
Wow this is very creative ! Sounds synthetic and raw at the same time, the layers of voices are disturbing and harmonic at the same time, it all makes the song very "alive" and put another emotion to the song. Thank you for sharing this :)
@@aimeecook9510 it’s so amazing how the same lyrics can be made to be so different! Covers, when done with soul and purpose, are often more beautiful than the original because they take on the original form, plus the added layer of whatever they bring to it 🤌
@@zosha. thank you for checking it out and I think you’re so right! James Blake is one of my favourite artists, ever. If you liked that you’ll probably like this one too : ua-cam.com/video/MR-STh8jECU/v-deo.htmlsi=isist7oRWS-32IQK 🫶
Great reaction! The music video is amazing too 🤯
It was a shock to every single person who grew up with Disturbed, I assure you.
But a welcome one.
I personally prefer the video version.... the visuals together with his voice is breathtaking.
His salute type gesture was a homage to the original artists.
People doubted that he could truly sing..... he did this to prove them wrong.
you should do KoRn Freak on a leash and falling away from me, falling away from me is second part of freak on a leash
This is the song I listen to when I miss my grandpa!!! Rip Rudy
This is one of the greatest songs ever written covered at least 150 times
I suspect that even after 100 years, people will be watching this performance with their jaws hanging! 😊
I guess.... Pentatonix version next?
Lol not David knocking the English language out your head
talk couldn’t I 😭🤌
I didn’t think I had any tears left, and then when I hear him again, the water works come. My soul keeps purging out deep soul emotion that seems to never end. This song, man, and performance, has impacted my existence.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Thank you!
I like the official music video best. The imagery that they put together along with his haunting voice is amazing
oh i got goose bumps the first time hearing this cover, he did so good .
You gotta think on he was ill when he sung this
. Absolutely Amazing cover ..he makes you feel every word .. truly beautiful cover
This is the only version for me❤goosebumps everytime 🥺
BTW (not sure if anyone else has commented this already), the pianist here is Disturbed's guitarist. Blows my mind every time I see this.
Like a lot of others side, David was under the weather for this performance. He did this live at a concert with acoustic guitar and it was beautiful. Makes me cry everytime I hear his and/or Pentonix version of this song.
Yea, he was actually sick during this performance and still sounded amazing! ❤
David Dremond was sick when this was recorded. He had a head cold if I remember correctly. And he still sang amazingly.
played this at my dad's funural, its so beatiful ❤
Johnny cash - Hurt and Disturbed - The sound of silence was his wish. Because of that, the funural was so perfect! Just as the way he wanted ❤
I have seen this so many times I will never get tired of it David and everyone involved it is the most perfect performance I have seen in my life and it literally gives you goosebumps 🙂
Arguably, the best cover of any song by any band, ever.
EPIC PERFORMANCE!!!
I really wish you’d watched the official video version as the graphics explain his interpretation of the song. I urge to you to watch it now; if this version moved you, the official version will blow your mind my friend!
l never knew about Disturbed until I watched a cover version of a Genisis song Land Of Confusion, then I found the video of this cover of Sound Of Silence,I was brought up with the original song but this version brought tears to my eye's,it is one of the most powerful versions of this song l have ever heard.
david draiman be a classically trained cantor he be a baritone his vocal range goes from E♭1 - F♯5 he also had the flu and a fever when he done this so it be why he sittin down
I had already heard Disturbed’s cover for this, so when you said “I’m expecting a lot of screaming” during the intro… I thought to myself “hehehe, just wait, you’re in for a surprise”.
It’s like Falling in Reverse’s Last Resort (reimagined)… amazing how a “heavy” band can cover something so beautifully
This is by far the best. He's a wonderful singer.
Craziest part is David was actually sick for this performance. You'd be surprised to know that metal singers have some of the most incredible voices when they sing in more "traditional" way.
Makes me cry everytime! The pain and rage in his voice is so palpable. This is what it do universal about music is the pain, soul, and emotion singers portray that connects with all human nature.
Oh man Teddy to see this song performed live is a feeling like no other.
HOW did I miss this reaction? :o This was incredible, Teddy. Yes, you almost went the entire song without pausing. I was just watching your face... that's always my favorite part. ❣
Yes, it's Draymin (spelled phonetically). As others mentioned here, he was sick as all getout during this performance. And he was still THAT good! Beautiful vocals, amazing instrumentals.
I recommend Inside The Fire, The Game, Voices and Indestructible to your loooooong list of suggestions. You will NOT be disappointed! Peace, sir!
I'm 65 years old and I liked the Simon and Garfunkel , but this guy blows my mind and makes me feel every single word!
This is the best cover version of all time. He was a cantor in his synagogue, hence his masterful vocalisation.
Wow, this one is so much better than the recorded version.
Pure power !
As a metal fan, when he said “The Duality!” I cracked the hell up.
Between him & Dan Vasc, I've definitely learned that metal singers are a different breed in the best way
Cry every dang time 👏👏👏👏
I LOVE this version!! ❤ It was actually my ringtone for a long time!! 😂
David has such an incredible voice!
Yeah man hits you right in the feels
Can't wait for you to hear this. I love this song. ❤
It's breathtaking, right? 🫶🏼 The song is more relevant now than it was back then - the more connected we are through the internet, the more isolated we are becoming. They portrayed it exactly as I thought the song should, progressing, his vocals becoming stronger and demanding attention to what he's saying. Love David!
My favorite version! I love this group !
I love the Pentatonix version of this song as well...but this one is my favorite
The Geoff Castelluci cover is good if you like acapella
