Conan O’Brien stated in an interview that in the 20 years of his show’s run, that was the first time a music act not only left the audience in stunned silence but also his crew. Even crew members who worked ‘backstage’ stopped what they were doing and silently stood around the stage to watch and listen. And to think Draiman performed with a lesion on a vocal cord…
The best thing I've heard about disturbed version is Simon and Garfunkels version was a warning an disturbed version is the rage for the warning being ignored
I love this version because of the cognitive dissonance he actually mentions in the video here. One is one version of the song shares the warning, one shares the rage for people ignoring the warning, and according to another reply here a third version is the hope that people will stop ignoring the warning. This song makes me think of that concept of feeling like you are screaming at the top of your lungs, but you never make a f****** sound or nobody can hear you if you do. That's the feeling I get from this song, and that's why I love it so much. I love it light years more than Simon and Garfunkel's just because of that sound.
Unfortunately they did use it (they say the experts can clearly hear it) & allegedly he was mighty pissed off, because he nailed it and any 'wobbles' were ironically causes by the AT - the producers didn't want to take any chances because he was so ill, tho. Paul Simon himself reached out & said it was the best version he'd ever heard - so, any other praise is just gravy...@PatricKelly-xb2ir
Goosebumps every time I hear this verson. David trained to be a Cantor before becoming a rock star. In Judaism, a cantor sings solo verses during prayer, to which the congregation responds. It's a very demanding & technical type of singing.
All that is absolutely correct! But, during a Disturbed break, David decided to go back to basics and took vocal lessons in operatic range so that he wouldn't damage his vocal cords any further.
I don’t think there will ever be a better cover of sound of silence. His voice and rendition was just so perfect for this. I can’t imagine anyone being able to do this in the same way
I believe Disturbed's cover is the best. It was amazing that Paul Simon called or texted David after this performance to tell him how proud he was that David put out the meaning that was meant to be. You should check out the actual video of this song. It really gives David's (Disturbed's) meaning. It starts out like a musical graveyard, very silent. Hope you watch it. Loved your reaction ❤
Ah, excellent, you beat me to it. I always recommend that any reactor that does one or the other of the versions, and *loves* it in all the right ways that they absolutely need to go watch the other version. I call them versions because ..... the texture and feeling of the two renditions of the same song and the same vocals are so radically different. This one makes me think of a campfire, where a singer/storyteller has their turn up to entertain the group, and this is what he sings. The music video version is much more visual, story-rich, and drives home the core reason that this song is the anger that the original warning was ignored. That the musicians (yes, this is what the name of people who play instruments is :) ) have to pick up the pieces of the devastation and try, yet again. It's literally filling in so much to have both versions of this, and I feel truly blessed that they happened in my lifetime from such an amazing group and performer.
Something even more impressive about this performance is that David was actually sick with some sort of respiratory illness when he did this performance. He himself has said that he can hear how congested he was through the whole thing... I 100% recommend that you go watch the official music video, because it's AMAZING. Both vocally and visually.
He actually had lesions on his vocal chords and was putting off surgery because it could have ended his career if something went wrong during the surgery. Lesions are painful and David is a legend with his voice!
He also said that he was getting flack from Garfunkel for doing that but he wrote the song by his self (Simon) at his house, so that left nothing to argue about
Simon never said Disturbed´s version was the best. He sent them a message saying "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks"
I love Disturbed cover The Sound of Silence. Simon and Garfunkel had talked about that this is the best cover of their song. What’s more amazing was during this live show David was very sick and he still sounded this amazing and clear.
This is the first time I've listened to this song since it was played at my dad's funeral. I've been avoiding it for 6 years. Congratulations sir, you win the best reaction to this I have seen. And I've watched dozens of them, I'm one of many that look for new reactions to this every now and then (because we can't watch it for the first time ourselves again so we want to watch others experience it for the first time)
this IS the most powerful, emotive, haunting version you'll ever hear! nobody can ever tell me they've heard a better version because i'll never believe them!
David Drainman has such a phenomenal voice. Disturbed's song "The Light" is another one that shows off his range and talent, not to mention one hell of a message. Also "A Reason to Fight" is another one that just will blow you away. Sound of Silence is one of my all time favorite songs, and i love their cover of it. Disturbed is definitely rock /metal, don't get me wrong, but they do have some others where they just slow it down, peel it back and just leave you feeling raw like "Hold on to the Memories" which was written as a way of them trying to console those dealing with grief. Now harder stuff from them, "Down with the Sickness" was a good start, but theres "Indestructible", "Ten Thousand Fists", "Prayer", "Bad Man", "Only the Best Ones Lie", "Inside the Fire", I could go on and on lol. Regardless, I hope you enjoy your journey into metal and rock!
I absolutely loved the original song by Simon and Garfunkel, so I wasn't thrilled when I heard Disturbed, of all bands, had done a cover. I cannot tell you how many times I have watched this performance. I still get goose bumps every time. They did an AMAZING job! This song is still so relevant and I just love what they did with it. ❤❤ It's as if Simon and Garfunkel issued a gentle reminder and Disturbed are screaming an urgent warning.
This is about the 30th time watching people react. It still gives me goosebumps and tears in my eyes. I don't listen to Disturbed. And I've heard this song on the radio a million times. I heard it but apparently I never got it. When Disturbed does this, it makes me pissed off. Or hurt? It should be our anthem.
Someone else may have already commented on this, but David Draiman was sick during this performance. He had some sort of flu and running a high fever. It makes the performance all the more amazing to me. I do think the MV with its images is even more powerful. It’s one of my all time favorite MVs of any genre.
The first time I heard this cover, I was at work and it came on the radio. I’ve been a Disturbed fan for a little over a decade and it was not a song I ever expected them to cover. I was very grateful to have been closing the store on my own because I was did tear up listening to it. There’s so much emotion in this cover and it’s so striking.
Ive found that singers with the most beautiful voices tend to be ones that scream. When you find a song where they sing, it's amazing. I think because it takes a lot of talent to pull off that grit sound.
Teddy, I can tell just how much you were feeling this song because of how you DIDN’T stop it while listening. It is a very powerful song and absolutely emotional every time I hear it. They are my absolute favorite band! David is amazingly talented.
YESSSSSSSSS!! Ok so now that I've finished watching. First, this is my first time hearing/watching him do it live and it HITS DIFFERENT!!! I CRIED! Second, I have been dying to watch you react to this song by this band. The POWER in that third verse when he adds that GRIT to his voice just 🤌😭🥶
Fellow STAY here!! I absolutely love the way Disturbed brought the frustration out in this song. Beautiful song. Beautiful cover. Your reaction is mine the first time I heard this.
Ive seen this cover probably 100 times since it erupted into the light. Without fail i get goosebumps and choked with emotion. His voice does the lyrics such justice. Once again you share your raw and unfiltered expressions and its beautiful like always.

Wow this is very creative ! Sounds synthetic and raw at the same time, the layers of voices are disturbing and harmonic at the same time, it all makes the song very "alive" and put another emotion to the song. Thank you for sharing this :)
@@aimeecook9510 it’s so amazing how the same lyrics can be made to be so different! Covers, when done with soul and purpose, are often more beautiful than the original because they take on the original form, plus the added layer of whatever they bring to it 🤌

I cry, as a 57 year old man every time I hear this rendition...so powerful.I remember so fondly how my mom (who has since passed away) and me regaling about how beautiful Dave Draimond's version is.
I only recently discovered your channel and was very pleasantly surprised to see you drop this one today! The Conan and the music video versions always bring me to tears when I have them blasting. You could tell that this song meant a lot to him, David, and that he wanted to send a message and leave a lasting impression with this song choice.
Makes me cry everytime! The pain and rage in his voice is so palpable. This is what it do universal about music is the pain, soul, and emotion singers portray that connects with all human nature.
HOW did I miss this reaction? :o This was incredible, Teddy. Yes, you almost went the entire song without pausing. I was just watching your face... that's always my favorite part. ❣ Yes, it's Draymin (spelled phonetically). As others mentioned here, he was sick as all getout during this performance. And he was still THAT good! Beautiful vocals, amazing instrumentals. I recommend Inside The Fire, The Game, Voices and Indestructible to your loooooong list of suggestions. You will NOT be disappointed! Peace, sir!

I enjoy Disturbed's cover quite a bit. I dont know if you have checked them out yet, but i think that you would really enjoy Shinedown. My personal favorite from them is Call me, but they have a lot of good songs
I had already heard Disturbed’s cover for this, so when you said “I’m expecting a lot of screaming” during the intro… I thought to myself “hehehe, just wait, you’re in for a surprise”. It’s like Falling in Reverse’s Last Resort (reimagined)… amazing how a “heavy” band can cover something so beautifully
Don't worry my friend, each of us has reacted the same way, with tears, and goosebumps, and mentally stunned. Welcome to the club. Loved your honesty and vulnerability. And that you recognized David Draiman's incredible skill and vocal ability. I have subscribed.
Loved your reaction Teddy, best compliment was your expression and awe of it, David has been training with his voice for quite awhile, in a younger life he was training to be a cantor, (Male singer of prayers in Synagogue ) such a rich expressive golden voice, and the arrangement of the music how it lulls and builds, really a favorite version of all I've heard to date.Peace
I didn’t think I had any tears left, and then when I hear him again, the water works come. My soul keeps purging out deep soul emotion that seems to never end. This song, man, and performance, has impacted my existence.
man, I am so glad you are reacting to other genres and groups. Disturbed is one of my top favorite bands. Have at least 2 of their cds. Down with the sickness is my favorite besides this cover. He does this song so well like it was made just for him to sing. Thank you.. loved it. this song always brings me to tears because it is so fu*king good.
Great cover by Disturbed! Really did the Simon and Garfunkel original justice, very cool reaction as well Teddy! I'm just going to suggest listening to A-ha Summer Moved On. Morten Harket's vocals are really great on that track.
Teddy you are the most honest fan of David and the Disturbed that I have ever seen on UA-cam. And performance: That is the most powerful, beautiful and emotional covwr of The sound of silence and up most resspect to performers.

Makes me cry everytime! The pain and rage in his voice is so palpable. This is what it do universal about music is the pain, soul, and emotion singers portray that connects with all human nature.
oh i got goose bumps the first time hearing this cover, he did so good .
Arguably, the best cover of any song by any band, ever.
HOW did I miss this reaction? :o This was incredible, Teddy. Yes, you almost went the entire song without pausing. I was just watching your face... that's always my favorite part. ❣
Yes, it's Draymin (spelled phonetically). As others mentioned here, he was sick as all getout during this performance. And he was still THAT good! Beautiful vocals, amazing instrumentals.
I recommend Inside The Fire, The Game, Voices and Indestructible to your loooooong list of suggestions. You will NOT be disappointed! Peace, sir!
One of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. I can watch it over and over
I like the official music video best. The imagery that they put together along with his haunting voice is amazing
The music video to this will stop your heart with chills.
l never knew about Disturbed until I watched a cover version of a Genisis song Land Of Confusion, then I found the video of this cover of Sound Of Silence,I was brought up with the original song but this version brought tears to my eye's,it is one of the most powerful versions of this song l have ever heard.
This is by far the best. He's a wonderful singer.
I love the Pentatonix version of this song as well...but this one is my favorite
The Geoff Castelluci cover is good if you like acapella
I loved the look of surprise when David started singing!
I enjoy Disturbed's cover quite a bit. I dont know if you have checked them out yet, but i think that you would really enjoy Shinedown. My personal favorite from them is Call me, but they have a lot of good songs
This is the only version for me❤goosebumps everytime 🥺
It was a shock to every single person who grew up with Disturbed, I assure you.
But a welcome one.
man, I am so glad you are reacting to other genres and groups.
I loved watching your pure emotional response. BEST REACTION.
Paul Simon, after hearing this version, said to David Draiman that this is his song now!
EPIC PERFORMANCE!!!
This is the best cover of this song, there I said it!! Got me teary eyed too, just beautiful...
Going to see Disturbed on Monday! Super excited!!
Rap fans are always amazed by actual music
New rap these days is not music. It’s crap 😂
Always My favorite song since the 60s. Now it's been elevated to a Height that I don't have words for.
David Dremond was sick when this was recorded. He had a head cold if I remember correctly. And he still sang amazingly.
Wonderful Reaction!... I love this version of Simon and Garfunkle's "Sound of Silence"... I never tire of it!
you should do KoRn Freak on a leash and falling away from me, falling away from me is second part of freak on a leash
Teddy you are the most honest fan of David and the Disturbed that I have ever seen on UA-cam.
And performance: That is the most powerful, beautiful and emotional covwr of The sound of silence and up most resspect to performers.
