Check out the live version on Conan. In an interview he said that he was sick and had a fever that day and the show’s producers wanted to cancel and reschedule but David refused and they put a stool on stage for him to sit on. And still he gave an outstanding performance. Also, they are a heavy metal band that began in the mid 1990’s. Lead singer David Draiman is a classically trained Cantor.
Getting to see the live performance is so amazing. I was disappointed, when I saw them in West Palm, that it was an outdoor venue because i felt robbed of the acoustics the Conan audience had lol. Otherwise, the West Palm show was incredible

I've been a fan of Disturbed for many years now. When this came out, it felt like they gave me the most unexpected gift: not only did they bring attention back to a classic that felt like it had been lost in the memes and one phrase jokes, but they gave this song the true power it had been missing all these years.
As a former Heavy Metal vocalist, I rarely get GOT by a singer or song. I love all music and certain performances. But I absolutely get crushed by Davids singing on this. He covers every nuance of the male voice. From child to God levels. I loved your reaction to this.🤘🔥🤘🤠🙌
Your appreciation for this performance brought me so much happiness. You geek out on it (and I mean that in the best way possible!) like I do. I loved how you watched it through (with utter enthusiasm and joy), and then went through it again to break down the technical and stylistic points. A total gem of a reaction video!

I've been looking for someone to do this format for music. Just listen uninterrupted once and just FEEL the song. Then comes the analysis, which you hit most of what I've noticed listening to this one well over 100 times at this point. If you want to hear the Disturbed their fans know, Down With the Sickness is required listening. Just remind yourself about Sound of Silence immediately after to appreciate just how incredible of a singer David Draiman is.
"...professional opera singer and beatboxer..." what 😄 Now thats a combo lol. I saw many reactions, this version never gets old, but your reaction is one of the best, if not THE best. Pure emotions and passion, it was a joy to watch.
David Draiman... one of the best male vocalists on the planet imho. Amazing tone...awesome control to his voice. Can sing sweetly (both baritone and tenor) and can sing hard and with distortion! Also he can actually put vibrato on the distortion which is extremely hard to do! Great job reacting sir.
I have watched a few reactions to this song but never watched a reactor ‘feel’ the song like this. Incredible to watch you literally feel the sounds. Love it
That plus the fact that how they filmed David himself. For one he is looking dead straight in to the camera. With the camera so close that for most you do not even see the top of his head. So you really only can stare him back in to his eyes with all the pain, sadness, and anger. Or you can watch his mouth singing to you. there is just no hiding from it. He is singing at you and you alone.
David said in an interview that he spends about 45 minutes in the booth when recording vocals for a typical Disturbed track. He spent 3 hours in the booth making sure his vocals were perfect for such an important song.
I still get chills and i have heard it probably 200 times or more. Its so powerful and the ebb and swell of the music is superb. The classical guitar work brings me to tears. It is so beautiful. They are traditionally a very heavy metal band, but David had classical training in choir (father is a pastor I believe). He sings it so clean and beautifully. Truly portrays the outrage and disappointment that the warning Simon & Garfunkel sang was not listened to, and the problems and disconnect between people might be even worse now.
Both father and grandfather were Jewish Cantors. David trained, even went to Israel for training as a Cantor. That were the haunting, resonating tones comes from.
I love this and have watched it a lot. I had no idea who Disturbed was before this song so imagine my shock when I listened to other songs and realized they were heavy metal. Turns out now I like heavy metal too.
I love finally seeing someone else that reacts so physically to music! It’s like an electricity running through your whole body, or at least it is for me. This is a great version of one of my favorite songs! So glad to finally get a chance to enjoy your reaction. ❤️🎶

I'm not a musician, but I still enjoyed and appreciated your musical analysis of this piece. I also admire how David Draiman takes care of himself. I normally think of rock and metal musicians as hard partiers, especially after a show, but Draiman is known to immediately return to his hotel room in order to rest and help his voice recuperate.
This reaction is such a perfect proof of the utter power of this performance. Started as analytical, intellectual. In the middle, a little... uncertain? Not sure how to bring your thoughts forward? Intellect fighting emotion for dominance? By the end, the song... and our esteemed analyst.. have only raw, pure emotion. Couldn't help yourself, could you? :) And that's the power of this performance, right there. My sincere thanks for allowing yourself to let the emotions do their work.
The best way I've heard this cover described is: The original was a warning by Simon and Garfunkel about what could happen. This version is the anger that that warning was ignored, and it has now come to pass.
If you only knew the 'style' of Disturbed you would realize the stark change from their usual heavy metal music such as 'Down With The Sickness'! I like your appreciation of both the visuals and as you say "the rawness" that he weights the music. Diving into the emotion of the lyrics and his performance was nice to experience. An artist, as you know, can express that emotion. Nice work.
This was wonderful. Edit: I'm a little drunk, forgive me. But let me elaborate: I loved how you weren't afraid to show us the emotions you were feeling, and I loved that you appreciated the intricacies of what David was doing with his voice to elicit those emotions. It is often difficult to put into words thge things I am feeling, but with this you took some of thevwords out of ny mouth, and I appreciate that.

Did u notice every note was exactly on key, even when a word fades out slowly, it doesn't drop or clime as a lot of singers do, just stays even to the end. Shear perfection😊
I really enjoyed your initial reaction and following analysis. You kept remarking on the "darkness" mode that was used here... I think that they used light & dark to resemble sound & silence where dark is silence and sound is light... when you spoke of a "pinprick of light" in the darkness, it was like a small sound amidst a great silence. I have to mention that my initial reaction was very similar to yours except I was watching the live version from the Conan show... I really encourage you to check that one out. Great Job!
Really appreciate both your reaction and then your analysis! (I've watched enough reactions and or commentary) on this performance of this song) Well done! Well explained. Thank you!
Daniel, I admire your insight to analyzing this song. I love that you know nothing of Disturbed and David Dramain, yet in conveying your analysis of the song, you are describing David's personality and his passion for helping people who are in the darkness of their addiction. Thank you for such a an awesome reaction/analysis ❤
there’s an interview with that Dave lead singer guy. ofc he was asked TELL US ABOUT SOUND OF SILENCE! how did you feel? how did you pick it?? he goes “i wanted to do an older song and someone said ‘do this one’ and i said ok” i’ve seen 100 vocal coaches review this song bc it’s amazing and im weird. not a single coach said “well this sounds like he picked it out of a hat” 🙃
Yes I have listened to about 5 reactions to this song tonight and yours is the best by far. Loved watching your face and your small quiet comments and the fact that you didn't stop it to talk. I could see you were really enjoying it too. I just sub🤗scribed
So I saw Disturbed live in February. He does the piece justice without all of the editing! All 4 guys are absolutely talented. Check out their live rendition on Conan! You will be even more impressed!
David Draiman was raised as an Orthodox Jew and his amazing voice is due to the fact that not only was he born with it, but he is also a trained Cantor. I've also learned that David Draiman and Disturbed addresses depression, addiction, and suicide during every concert, performance offering support and understanding. They are one of the most popular, beloved Heavy Metal bands! Diane ❤❤❤😊
Thank you for such a personal expression of your feelings for this song, the visual presentation, and that voice. One of the most powerful things I have ever heard. Thank you again.
Thanks! Dude! Your reaction and emotion while listening to this song were so genuine and heartfelt that I forgive you for (what I think is) the mandatory homework of researching the performer's genre and style. 'Like' from me. And I’m growing more fond of one person’s comment about this song: if they don’t play it at my funeral, I’m not coming. (Male, 52yo)
Great reaction! I like reactors who do analysis. I grew up listening to opera so i have a special place in my heart for opera singers. I see in your profile that you are intetested in storytelling. A British artist named Ren is a master storyteller. I would love to see you react to his piece Hi Ren. Im off to check out some of your other reactions.
Thank you for doing a song reaction the correct way. Listen to the song all the way through without interrupting then go back through and break it down. UA-camrs always rob themselves of truly experiencing the peice the way it's intended to be received when they pause it to talk every 5 seconds.
This is by far my favourite reaction video to Disturbed - The Sound of Silence, and I've watched a LOT of them! I love how animated you were when listening to it the first time, especially when David really ramped up the gruffness (is that even a word?)! I never get bored of listening to the song and watching the music video. It's had me in tears so many times. I once read somewhere in a comment that God asked David if he'd like the voice of an angel or a demon, and David said yes please, and it's absolutely spot on!
I’ve watched this reaction a 100x but for some reason this was the first time I thought about it from a singer/musicians perspective and it mad me cry. Thank you… keep doing this. I have suggestions if you need them. I live reactions but you have an understanding
Being a child in the 1950's and '60's, Simon and Garfunkel's _Sound of Silence_ produces a visceral reaction in me. The song was so appropriate for the time it was written; and continues to be appropriate. When The Charismatic Voice did a reaction to Disturbed's rendition, I was reluctant to the idea of a metal version of this old favorite. I was surprised to greatly appreciate the Disturbed version. I realized the importance of the Disturbed arrangement to the current time. Thank you for the analysis of this video from your perspective. Your format of reaction to the video in one piece; and then the analysis, breaking down the video piece by piece, is wonderful teaching tool. Thank you!

The live performance of this on Conan is great too, if you have interest.
Love your reaction, thank you 👍🏻
Best reaction yet😊 Thanks for not stopping it every other second.😊
Im glad you did this version very dramatic wild bill
there’s an interview with that Dave lead singer guy. ofc he was asked TELL US ABOUT SOUND OF SILENCE! how did you feel? how did you pick it??
he goes “i wanted to do an older song and someone said ‘do this one’ and i said ok” i’ve seen 100 vocal coaches review this song bc it’s amazing and im weird.
not a single coach said “well this sounds like he picked it out of a hat” 🙃
You Crack me up. You have a little head banger in you I suspect...thanks for the reaction.
I love your energy. You feel the music with your whole being like me. That's the way to react!!
Yes.....
Absolutely agree with previous comment, you simply MUST hear the live version on Conan.
Amazing.
David Draiman began his musical training as a cantor. He is classically trained.
Amazing reaction to an amazing song!!
Idk how anyone, especially in the music field, hasnt heard disturbed... O.o
I appreciate your reaction very much. One of the best on youtube. Great!
Very astute take, bro. I’m glad watched the second half when u replayed. This is next-level, even this many years later🤙🙏💣
So many more great Metal singers to react to, that will be a journey if you dare... 🙂
I’ve watched this reaction a 100x but for some reason this was the first time I thought about it from a singer/musicians perspective and it mad me cry. Thank you… keep doing this. I have suggestions if you need them. I live reactions but you have an understanding
This version of this song gets me every time, rushes right through me. Beautiful reaction, Daniel, as always.
Thank you!
Such value in your analysis. Fantastic! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!! ❤
Your joy,
Brought me joy.
Thank you
Your joy to this is captivating. He's an amazing vocalist
Their rendition of "Land of Confusion" is a serious banger, and the music video has a definite Pink Floyd vibe to it.
I am so glad you did not pause to analyze. You felt the entire buildup..the first so far to react in this way. Thank you.
I agree you have to check out the live Conan performance. Yes there is auto tune. He was very unhappy that they added that. So good though!!
I have heard this cover so many times and every time it grabs me ..Hes phenomenal... classically trained as a cantor....Best Cover EVER!!!
Ich liebe diese Version des Liedes. Es zieht mich in den Bann und ergreift mich sehr. Du hast es mir mit deiner wundervollen Erklärung noch näher gebracht. Vielen Dank 🙏
