In todays episode i planned to show you how to plant garlic in buckets however the weather changed drastically and we had a snow storm! The allotment was covered in inches of snow within hours.
Thanks Ali for the hook suggestion..check out alis channel here :
@myrustygarden
So i decided the staging i purchased from first tunnels would be the perfect job for today! Considering i couldn't work outside. One benefit to a polytunnel in autumn and winter!
So i opted for the same design as i built in my last polytunnel with staging you can remove in compartments. This ensures i can use some staging while growing in other areas. They are all 5ft in length. I also have a plan to build a floating shelf in the middle to avoid slug damage and another 5ft shelf in the corner.
There's so much to do in the garden at this time of year. Get everything prepared for spring now!

I like that staging - well thought through that man! Loved GROW UP on the snowy poly - nice touch.
I'm a very clever man kerry. I'm not just looks, creativity and charm 😏😂
I’m new to your channel Grow Up and didn’t realise you did a live chat Danny. It was really informative thank you x
Ahh hello Glynis! Yeah every Thursday 7pm! Welcome to my channel. Danny 🌱😊
Fabulous live as always Danny 😍 Shame I was unwell and couldn't make the live but just watched it 👍 Thanks to everyone who wished me a speedy recovery ❤I'm heaps better now and really appreciate your good wishes. 😍👍 This is a learning is fun live and I learnt from it and laughed a lot. All guests were great ❤ xx
Glad you're feeling much better linda. I won't dock your wages this time, as a goodwill gesture 😂😂 glad you laughed, best medicine 🥰
@@Feelgoodgardens get better soon Linda, we missed you ♥️
@angietaylor5311 Awwww thank you Angie ❤️ I'm fine now so should be back moderating again on Thursday. Bet Danny will have me doing overtime now to make up my lost hours 🤭😂
@ I reckon Danny has a list for you already 🤣. Pleased you’re feeling a bit better Linda, you were definitely missed ♥️
Joy Larkcom (author of 'Creative vegetable gardening') recommends Hungarian Hot wax chillies (it's the only one she bothers to grow now). I grew them this year, and they are mild to medium, prolific, and big enough to stuff.
I've grown them before funnily enough! Maybe I'll do them next year.. sew you're tempting me 😂😂😂
@@TheGrowUpChannel I was about to edit my post, but you had already replied. Lidl sold 6 Habanero chilli seedlings last spring for £1.99, only 2 of mine grew on, but, dirt cheap.
Oh that's not too bad! Thank you!
Hi Danny under all that bullshite you believe in love thy neighbour great qualities about you bless you tfs sylvi
What do you mean 😂😂😂
@TheGrowUpChannel 😇😁😁😁😁😂😂😂😂
Great way to use a blustery day. We've now had our first snow....not much thankfully, just a heavy dusting. Great live BTW. Wish I could have joined it while it was happening.
Oh it appears alot of us had snow then! Oh that's okay Robin 😊🌱🍂
Great chat, sorry I missed it LIVE.
No worries at all 😊🌱🍂
Great chat everyone ❤
Aww thanks Angie 😊🌱
Ok missed again 🤦♀️ but we are super busy during the day to get things done for the next storm coming. But I did enjoy listening after and some awesome tips. I was laughin about the sand as everyone seems to think you grow carrots in sand when the sand is actually a mold for the soil you grow them in. Have an awesome weekend, Ali 🌧️🥶🇨🇦
Well don't miss next week's as you're the guest Mrs 🤣🤣 x
@ 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I’m just putting my leaves into my compost bays.
Oh fantastic! 🍂🍃
I’ve been doing that too Jayne
Love your garden
Thank you so much. It's a working progress 🌱❤️
@ aren’t they all!?
Absolutely 😂❤️
Wow, Danny! You have made so much progress in such a short amount of time, and the fact that you have so many other commitments makes it even more commendable! Well done, you!!! 💪💪💪 Take care, Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Thank you so much Annie. It's taking shape now. 😊🍃🌱🫶
i would still watch if you had a sponsor on every video. you do a great job!
Aww thanks Ann 😊🫶

The shelving look great Danny and will get a lot of use in the coming years, put slug pellets around the legs to stol them eating the seedlings and also coffee grounds to deter them away.
Thanks Ian! Ahh I don't use slug pellets myself aha. They never bother that much. I brought some slugs in that's all. The floating shelf is just an extra defense :)
I leave my Dhalias in the ground and put about 6 inches of leaves, Straws and the Dhalia stems to protect them from frost.
I've done both. Left in and taken out. Left in lasted better too!
Ha ha - may you be forever haunted by my disembodied voice!
Can't get away from ya! 😂😂
Do you have pool noodles over there? That would be perfect for those wood ends in the poly
We do! But unsure if I can get any now.. I'll have a look. I've had so many suggestions to protect the tunnel and this is also another great idea!
The staging looks amazing.
Why thank you very much!
Hi Danny, skill share is a useful tool. For your staging posts against the inner raised bed have a look at pipe saddle clips.
Hey ady! Thank you! As per video (3 videos ago.. that's what I used 😂😂 saddle clips haha! Great minds 😊
Woo hoo we finally got a bit of snow here in West Sussex, just been a walk around my village the South Downs looks very snowy 🥰 compared to my village…now it’s stopped snowing it’s fading fast ☹️ ah well it was lovely while it lasted 😊
Absolutely. There's a tiny patch on my plot, but it was good while it lasted...
Hi Danny, we have had snow ❄️ its very cold here today too -1C 🥶 snow has gone but, may be back tonight. I didnt realise you benefitted from the advertising, so I shall watch them in the future as i love your videos ❤ How do you fit everything in! Studying, too! You must be exhausted! Always helping others ❤ love the shelving, thats how i want mine built in my 10ft x 10ft polytunnel, so i can remove them ❤ love they'll written GrowUp words on your ploytunnel in the snow ❤thats brilliant first tunnels sending you poles. I purchased mine from first tunnels too and i realised i ordered the staging brackets, they sent me the right ones and no charge, i couldnt thank them enough, fantastic customer service ❤ the net does sag at the top of the fruit cage with the snow, happened to mine a few years ago, it will ve ok, just tighten it up when the snow melte 😉 another great video! Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Thank you Christine ❤️🌱 I am a very organised person with my time. I average 4 jobs / appointments or things to do per day.. I don't know how I fit it all in. But I somehow do! Haha yes definitely build the staging in compartments. I cannot fault first tunnels for customer service! It's why I'm so loyal to them ❤️🌱
'Hi my love!' Really enjoyed the bonus video midweek 😊 the polytunnel is looking fabulous 👌👏
Thanks so much Gemma! 😊
Loads of progress Danny Loving the shelving … I have a new poly tunnel from 1st tunnels coming in February…. And will be doing this staging in the one side …
Oh amazing! Pop down soon and have a nosey :)
@@TheGrowUpChannel I will perhaps next week I will message you before hand to make sure you are there
Hi Danny, glad you got the snow you were craving! Your polytunnel is looking superb, and is really productive already (already earning its keep, as my Dad used to say) Loving that coat hook too. Thanks for the bonus video, it was awesome (as are all your videos) have a great week ahead xx
Thank you Jean! So kind of you xx yes my nan used to say that too! Danny 🌱
Good for you. You work and get rewarded (that's how life should work). Take care of yourself.
Thank you so much 😊🌱❄️
The staging looks great Danny- you are very talented to just design and create it! 😊 I bet your allotment provides a nice change to the demands of your nursing studies. My 15 year old daughter has decided she wants to do a healthcare T level next year and wants to go into nursing. I'm so happy for her- its a very important and valued profession!
Why thank you very much. It's my little escape, for sure! Oh amazing! Good luck to your daughter. It's a tough gig, but a rewarding job 😊🌱

Those dropdown shelfs are a must in the spring 👍 I'd love to know more about the music you use in your videos 🎶
Why thank you. The music I use is from epidemic sounds. Hope this helps 😊🎶
@TheGrowUpChannel ok thanks, you don't know the name of the artists bya any chance?
I love the staging it makes the tunnel look great xx
Thanks so much Penny!😊
@@TheGrowUpChannel Thankyou for the videos xx
You always make the diy side of things look so simple, staging looks great. All of your plants looking lovely. I dont mind a sponsor you work hard for your channel skill share sounds interesting too. Great work as always Danny 🌱🌷
Thanks Lisa! Very kind of you to say! I have spare plants If you need some 🌱 Let me know (kale's a plenty) x Danny
Would love a wider and taller tunnelhouse so I could do more, but at 6 metres long used up nearly all the flat!?! ground, a lot of soil had to be shifted by hand to give the base a flat area. Too high in the middle, too low at one end, just right at the other, it still runs down hill inside but at least the base is flat.
Yeah if I had to, wider is always better than longer... but yes like you said, you've taken up all the flat.
That’s a good sponsor to have as it offers something for people with more hobbies etc. Good luck with essay writing I too struggled at first but heck ended up as a qualified nurse educator. When I then looked back many years later at a first year essay which I at the time thought brilliant, I sat reading and laughing my head off. The structure was not great. Yes I had great ideas supported by research references but decided no wonder no A for it. Pre computer so handwritten I didn’t even have a typewriter and thought oh I love turquoise ink (fountain pen) so used it!!!! Always hang on to some so you can later see how you blossom. By end of second year I was mainly A or A+ for my nursing subject essays.
Haha that's funny to read. Yes I will hang onto some. Each essay gets better and better.. but boy are they boring! Danny 🌱
No need to apologize! I love how excited you are to get snow and quite surprised you had snow before I did here in New England US
Why, thank you! Yes, it's very abnormal for us to have snow in November ❄️
A lot of work accomplished! The wood looks nice, but wonder if hardware cloth shelves would be better? We started with a bit of snow in Wisconsin today and for tomorrow morning. Some parts could see 3”. It’s a wet snow and it can make some covers sag and if there’s enough-collapse. I was able to harvest one cauliflower and with the 20s (F) forecasted for many nights I think they will be done. Not enough sun and warmth during the day. I know they can handle cool temps, but that’s pretty cold. We will see. I’m trying to understand your weather and still growing plants with snow arrival. Once that happens here it pretty much continues and gets much colder through to February. We never know as the last two winters were warm till Christmas and once about mid January it can turn bitter. That cold snap has been short lived the last two years. What I remember ‘Growing Up’ 😉😂 was -50F windchills and -40F temps 🥶. It was much less humid and more fluffy snow. The ski hills I’m sure are holding their breath and may be a thing of the past-I hope not. So happy you had some time to enjoy that snow! ❄️ ⛄️❄️⛄️❄️. Enjoyed the vid, thx Danny!
I considered hardware cloth but was concerned it may snag the tunnel. Oh the snow only lasts a day or two if that. Never lasts long. Longest I've known it last is 2 weeks when I was a child. Now it's a flurry and gone in a few days. (Sadly)
@ if the screen was in a frame it should be ok. Just thinking they would be lighter and easier to clean. It is nice when it snows and warm out, but it’s usually the day after it turns bitter cold. Some areas got 6” today but melted quickly and now the forecast says low 20s F at night next week-so the rest of fall veg may be done.
Enjoyed the extra episode.
Why thank you very much 😊
What is the size of the wood Danny
Hey jim! For the staging? It roofing battens :) 2x1inch in 5feet lengths :)
Great idea with multipurpose staging
Glad you think so! Hoping to make that this autumn too. So many plans 😊🔨
Love your tap hook Danny 😍 Fab bonus video and love the music ❤ You did a good job of that staging. You are starting to look at home in that polytunnel. Your brassicas look really healthy. Skillshare looks fabulous, I'm so pleased you find them useful. That snow was just enough to look pretty but didn't hang around long enough to be a nuisance. Grow Up on your polytunnel was fabulous 👍😍 Snow Up! 😂
Thanks Linda! So pleased with the staging. Haha snow up 😂❄️
Hey Danny. Another great vlog 👍. That kale looks fabulous.your working wonders 👏😊
Thank you Paula 😊🌱 yes I'm pleased with the kale! I need to get them in now haha
Snow up here in the Scottish Highlands too... It's early this year but looks lovely...
I think it's easier to tell us when scotland hasn't got snow 😂 yes I agree a lot earler!
Hi Danny enjoy your snowy day ❤
Thank you 😊🌱❄️ I hope it snows more..
A friend of mine just come out to wales for a running thing. I'm not sure where. But she said it was so cold
Hmm I'm not sure if it was that cold.. I was in a tshirt most of the day haha but today it's been bitter !!!
Does anyone know what that song is? When he’s building the staging. Give me a reason, give me a change or something like that. Will be eternally grateful ❤ Also definitely just found a new channel I love. I find it hard to find allotment vlogs I like. I also make my own allotment vlogs. I hope I can become as good as you 🎉😊❤
Well you could ask me 😂😂 hello! And welcome haha! The song is called : 'Give me' by Humble Key On epidemic sound. Aww thank you very much! Goodluck with your channel! What's it called? That's very kind of you! We all start in the same place, I'm just 3 years in with experience! Danny 🌱❄️🫶

We got between 4 and 5 inches of snow on Monday night and tuesday morning. It's still here today, but it's been a glorious day, but never got above 2°
Yeah it was 2° here too. I'm hoping for more snow haha. (I must be mad)
@TheGrowUpChannel same here, I wish it was there too, instead of here. I hate it. 😅😅🤣

Great job once again Danny , loved the video , the poly is coming along nicely, keep up the good work mate 👍
Cheers jim! It's slowly taking shape for sure 😊🌱❄️
@TheGrowUpChannel certainly is Danny 👍
Please don’t apologise for sponsorship, if it helps you to enjoy the process you’ll get no complaints from us! As a Mum of a student nurse I get it, no time and lack of funds. We need to support our nurses in any country so do what helps you. Great video Danny and the snow, well that just makes me smile too. I saw it for the first time last year on a holiday in New Zealand, absolutely magical. Enjoy Danny ♥️
Aww thanks Angie! That makes me happy and goodluck to your daughter or son doing their nursing! It's a tough gig! I usually travel in winter to get more snow, can you believe it! Maybe after Xmas I'll go away! Love Nordic countries so much 😊🌱❄️
@ snow is good for the soul. It’s our daughter that’s in uni, she’s an enrolled nurse but is continuing her studies to become a registered nurse (I’m not sure if it’s the same in the UK). She’s a single Mum too so very proud of her to continue her dream. It’s so tough for you guys studying, our son is doing his PHD but able to work while he’s doing it. He’s in the arts though so very different but proud of him too. Have an amazing day Danny and look after “you” ♥️
Oh wow what a fab hook ❤. It will be better so you’re not putting in a wet coat 🧥. Listen to that rain ☔️ it’s the best thing to,have a big poly to work in. Hey Ali! Haha thanks for the suggestion, some have suggested it should be red 😂 love the sound of rain too! HAHA! A BIKE 😂 I'm so pleased with the staging now. You're welcome. Thanks for the suggestion! Danny 🌱
I watched through it all. 😉 Glad to see you enjoy the snow. I would too if it didn't stay for four-five months. Your weather is coming in our direction.
Haha I don't know if you did now ;) oh 5 months of snow would wear thin... but I will one day move to a snowy country like Sweden. That's my end game!
@@TheGrowUpChannel I'd go for southern Sweden if I were you, quite mild winters there. Unless you prefer -30 of course. ☺
