Hi Danny, what a lovely week you've had. Lots of socialising and gardening. A perfect combination. You've got loads done on the plot and it will soon be polytunnel time. Have an awesome week ahead xx
Nice looking place! I have a secluded 130 feet by 130 feet Louisiana lot surrounded by trees with a 30 ft camper to live in and I`ve been cramming everything I can into the space including over a dozen fruit trees and little garden patches everywhere. In winter the soil mounds under the fig trees are used for leafy greens and in spring I plant vining Red Ripper cow peas around the trees and keep them trained to stay on the ground. The wild bunnies love the leaves but their pruning doesn`t harm them but it keeps them away from my main vegetable garden and I get a pea harvest late into fall. Plus they add nitrogen and drink up excess water from rains to improve the sweetness of the ripe figs. I mow over them after the first frost and mulch the trees with the leaves and vines.
It's always a challenge, and a fun challenge to fit earthing into your growing space. My first plot was small and I loved that challenge if I'm honest. Space is a luxury! Danny 🌱
We have squash vine borers in Louisiana and only certain things like Butternut Squash do well here. I used to collect uncarved Halloween pumpkins people throw away and roast them with brown sugar and cinnamon. I have no oven now and will have to find a good way to use rice cookers to prepare my Butternut Squash harvest.
Oh we are very lucky to not have many squash predators, apart from slugs when tender plants. Squash In a rice cooker! Somehow I believe you'll sort it! Goodluck! Danny 🌱
Lovely to see you having some great days out with friends and family Danny. Your new tunnel is going to look brilliant. Fantastic pumpkin harvest from your patch. Will be good to see the difference between the shallot's you grow inside and out.
Hello Natalie ! I'm sorry you have to endure my nonsense on top of being ill, haha! Thank you so much! I'm still recovering from the last bout. Get well soon 😊🌱
The fall clean up of all the beds is so satisfying. That pumpkin patch looked like a good one. We've got a big one near me, and I've never been. That might be something I'll need to do this year. It looks like the Malvern show was a success, except for the ripped jeans incident, lol. Thanks for sharing, Danny.
Haha thanks Charissa! So much happened this week! The pumpkin patch was fun! Malvern is always a treat for me! I do enjoy it! It goes so so fast! Oh it could only happen to me charissa. It was a chilly day! Haha!
Such a busy a wonderful video, Danny! You have done loads of work here. I just love the metal rods you got to make higher cage for the sprouts! I could really do with some of those. If they have them at Malvern in the Spring, you’ll have to point me in the right direction! So great to meet you and enjoy my first autumn show! I am going with smaller pumpkin varieties next year too, so if you have any faves, let me know 😊🎃 Love a pumpkin farm trip. We are off to our local one later in the month and we have been going since my youngest was still in bump 🤰🏼 lovely to see the beautiful drive through the Welsh countryside too 😍🏴 Thanks for another great video. Have a wonderful week ahead and I look forward to catching up on the live later in the week after I’ve finished work - I’ll get my boys listening in too 😊🪴💚
Thanks Sarah! It was a busy week for sure! Looking forward to seeing you at spring malvern! Yes I shall send you a list of some lovely mini pumpkin varieties. I'd save you some seed, but we'd not guarantee they'd come true. Thansk Sarah! Danny 🌱
Exciting times with the new tunnel arriving 👏. Looks like you had a great time at Malvern, hope to catch you next time. Funny incident with your jeans…. Must have been one hell of a fart!! 🤣🤣🤣
Great seeing a tidy up going on, ‘tis the season for it. Tree cabbage?? In the bed with the sprouts?? Sick of the white fly in my large brassicas cage…… maybe time for it to go? Great Malvern footage 😂 Praying for good weather for poly tunnel day!! Keep smiling Allie & Tricia xx
It could be the jury is still out on that plant haha! If we get some frost now the frost will kill off most of the whitefly.. he says. Malvern went so quick!!! Danny 🌱
Hi Danny I had a squash vine it give me one squash and it looks like a pumpkin very round but it was so pretty and sweet, and also a watermelon vine also one but taste good so I’m thankful have another watermelon vine it have on two so hopefully those stay on one is much bigger than the other, great pumpkin harvest from your plot and can’t wait to see your project going up ❤❤❤
Oh these vine bugs are a pain aren't they! I see so many lose crops! We don't have them thankfully! Thank you. So many projects underway at the moment. Danny 🌱
Another great video Danny full of useful information - I think the mystery plant might be a sprouting broccoli - I grow them for the leaves - yummy when sautéed in butter - Keep us posted if you find out exactly which plant it is. 🌱🌸
I am today! Haha very early.. but figured it's going to be a dreadful day so hopefully people will watch my vlog with a cuppa, out of the rain. Danny 🌱🍃
Nice one buddy. The jacket comes off - I hope you changed your trousers! Savoy is my favourite too. Gotta say, there were a few weird channels from Wales at Malvern! My wallet is still moaning, Danny, and it will only be happy when it seeks revenge in Spring LOL
What a great video. Wow, I’m tired just watching! I do like those stakes, although not enough to regret buying any… YET 😂 The Malvern footage was brilliant. Thank you for the mentions. I see we both have the same idea about planting some crops inside and outside to compare their success, only it’s brassicas for me not shallots. ☺️ So many plans and so much cleared. I can see how much the greenhouse conundrum is playing on your mind. It’s so difficult to decide. What I will say though, is if you do use the greenhouse as well you’ll find it a pain to have to move seedlings between the two plots. It drove me made shifting stuff out to the polytunnel to grow on. Not a big walk, but inconvenient. Keeping them closer to each other makes sense. Your greenhouse will be warmer overnight in the depth of winter too, significantly, so using it for more tender seedlings makes far more sense. I wouldn’t be without both. Pumpkin picking was a fab afternoon out. Lovely to Leo and family again. What a beautiful place
Thanks clare! Yes we always seem to feature the same ideas week by week haha! Happens 😂 yeah the greenhouse is a conundrum and you're right I'd get annoyed moving the trays all the time. Hmm... Leo loved the pumpkin picking day! Thanks clare 😊🌱
Oh now snap with the pumpkins - what are the pretty shaped ones you pop in the barrow first? Good to see the rods you bought from Malvern in action. Re: trousers - would you like me to send you a patch to stop the draught? 😅
Fab video as always Danny ❤ Enjoyed your Malvern update, what a fab day we had didn't we, especially meeting up with the other gardening UA-camrs. You splitting your trousers and I missed it! 😂 Can't believe you showed a close up on your Live show when you were trying to hide it all day 🤭😂 Wow so many pumpkins you grew and harvested. Thanks for the pumpkins for my soup. Your sprouts look fabulous, you'll certainly have some for Xmas if not before. Thanks for picking up some cauliflower and broccoli 🥦 plants for us at the garden centre. Those metal steaks worked really well to put bird netting over your sprouts and mystery brassicas. I wonder what they are 🤔😂 Remember we're going to have a blackberry bush clearing party 🎉🥳😂 Pumpkin 🎃 picking with Leo and family, it looked fun. So nice to see Leo back in your video, hes a little star ❤ x
Thanks Linda! Yes it was a lovely day! You're always welcome to whatever I grow. We share 😊 I'm glad you didn't film the trouser incident 😂 yes I'm happy with the blackberry party 😂😂
Wow what a good little harvest of squash Danny. Can’t wait to see the poly. Loved you Malvern pics. I watched Kerry’s and Annie’s pics too there was quite a lot of you now seems to draw more and more of you. There are one or two I don’t recognise so I prob don’t follow and not found their channels yet. I would have loved to come too. I havnt been able to garden this last season as I am not at home my daughter had a stroke at 39 and is paralysed down left side so I am looking after her 24/7 can’t Lea ve her as I have my 7 year old grandaughter. It happened in may. My husband stanley planted out what plants I grew that didn’t die but loads got eaten. But we had a poly of toms and raspberries apple blackberries pears badgers ate sweetcorn. Oh we had beetroot. No brassicas or parsnips or carrots😣but I will try to grow plants again in January as don’t know how long recovery will be. Prob 1-2 years. 🙏🏻anyway thanks again Danny for your videos👍
All who were at malvern are guests on the lives through autumn and winter so you'll discover them all! Sorry to hear about your family troubles.. the garden will always wait for your return! Take care of yourself and your daughter. Danny 🌱❤️
Hi Danny, Malvern looks lovely. All your ground is ready for your polytunnel! Well done! I have the same hoops and have used green coated 6ft metal poles to raise them up. Let's hope First Tunnels come back to you with a solution🤞 My polytunnel was built in Oct 3 years?ago and it was pouring down with rain. They turned up, 3 men and they sat off in my hubby's greenhouse, I gave them 3 chairs to sit on. Made them hot drinks whilst I sheltered in my shed. They were brilliant but very wet, bless them ❤ your polytunnel buikd will go ahead and I'm looking foward to seeing it built. lovely plot update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
You really should think about coming in spring! That's such a relief you saying that about them coming in the rain (not good for them! Wow!) But that's calmed my nerves about not having a tunnel for autumn. Thanks Christine! Danny 🌱
Wow what a full and fun video. 😊 love the net cage you built. Far more practical than the short oval ring type that’s only good for short plants. You could design and patent it. Looks like a wonderful time at Malvern 😂 poor Danny split his pants. You had to make the day more exciting eh 😂. 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
The greenhouse-I would probably move it. Those trees look like they will get bigger and if they break, then quite a mess. Even if using it for a shade greenhouse, then just use shade cloth. I find my attached leanto greenhouse very handy on the south side of garden shed. Yes, Malvern looked like fun minus the rain 😏 and I take it this pants thing 🤭 or similar has happened before? 😄 It’s close to frost maybe tonight, but the high temps will remain after Monday. It’s been a long season so far with no frost and no rain again. Busy keeping things watered before ground freezes.
Yeah I agree somewhat. I'm more worried about the storms coming this week and it destroying the greenhouse. Haha I've ripped a few pairs of trousers now haha yeah the temps are definitely lowering now.
Lots going on in this video Danny. Glad you had a good time in Malvern. That baby pumpkin was very good 👍🏻 Lots of good work on the plot as well, especially getting the polytunnel area ready. Those hoop stakes are such a good idea, makes your very own brassica cage. Looks like you all had fun at the pumpkin farm. Hope the winds and storms coming don’t mess up the polytunnel build too much.
Thanks mark! Yeah very lucky with the mini pumpkins this year. Malvern was wonderful as always. The pumpkin farm was so much fun. Highly recommend! Danny 🌱
U were so lucky finding them spare plug plants like couliflowers in the garden centre, they isn't many left. Taking about garden centre there is a lovely pumpkin patch by Abergavenny garden centre this year 😊
Oh I couldn't believe my eyes! I wanted cauliflower, broccoli and savoy and all 3 were there.. not many either! Oh I have seen on fb actually! The archway looks glorious!
Danny do you guys have PVC pipe over there? If you do look up how to use it in the garden to make row covers. It very cheap and last forever and there are SO MANY ways to use it. Garden is looking good.
Oh we do!!! I used to use the pipes alot when I first took on the plot. I went to the first tunnels hoops afterwards because they fit my 3ft wide beds...but the plastic piping is brilliant for hoops! Danny 🌱
Thanks for a great video Danny. Always love the music you choose. I loved the garden centre you visited. Much better than the one I go to. What is the garden centre called please? So pleasd you had a great time t Malvern. I am hoping to go there next year, now i know that dogs are allowed in on the Sunday I would love to visit it. Cheers. Happy gardening.
The casserole recipe: 2 onions🧅🧅, just not the Malvern size! Hey to all YT'ers at Malvern ☔. Next time, maybe bring an extra pair of 👖in the🎒. Thank you for sharing 🛣the road trip/🎃pumpkin picking. Happy autumn gardening 🍃🍂🍁🥦
Danny can’t see the space between but I’d move the greenhouse pre installation of poly tunnel if you will need to move it. Glass and polytunnel risk on moving oops. Plus the poly will shade the sun from the glasshouse due to the height. It’s a cute glasshouse and knowing you you will grow more and need it. Love the film of Malvern and seeing everyone lovely to see was it Tony’s wife, lovely face I take it she is Welsh as she looks to be. Did anyone win a prize Danny re hoops I use that metal bar that goes rusty they come in different lengths I poke in ground then my poly pipe over top means I can have any height I want and lasts years. I even used for the top section of old cheap Poly shed so have roof type shape on legs great for taller brassicas.
There's only a fee panes of glass. There's now 6ft between tunnel and greenhouse. I am still considering moving it, it's the weather that's putting me off. Moving it and anchoring it down before this hurricane. That's my fear! No that lady was Freddies Mum! Danny 🌱
I have had the same trouble germinating cabbages, broccoli and sugar snap peas. I think it is just one of those years. Malvern looked fun! Shame about the trousers. That must of hurt. Those canes look nice. We got blight a couple of days ago so need to take down the tomatoes and hope they ripen indoors. So early for us. Looked like you guys had a good time at the pumpkin patch. You didn't fancy a ride in the water barrel? Hopefully the storm isn't too bad next week. I bet you are counting down the days until you get the poly up! Have a great week!
Haha I found the trouser incident comical and very me! It always happens to me! Oh the dreaded blight! I don't think I'd fit in those barrels haha! Have a lovely week! Danny 🌱
Hi Danny, every time I watch your channel I think I know where you are, the mountain behind you looks so familiar. Which Welsh valley are you in? I’m in Blaenau Gwent but can’t find an allotment anywhere near do have to make do with pots in the garden, which my hubby has banned me from buying any more 😢😢😢😢love your channel xx
Fab video as usual! I just signed my lot agreement today! Around 200square metres. Excited but overwhelmed - any advice on new starters would be super useful :). Almost tempted to start a channel to show from the very start, just too shy :D
Well! My advice would be make a compost bin at the back. Mot fully shaded. Let the sun get to it, if possible. Weed and put all the plant rubbish in the compost bay. Make 1 bed at a time from the front. Plant up (almost garlic and wintering onion season) then focus on the rest over autumn and winter while that's growing away. Secondly.. just film yourself for a bit and see how you feel. It's not as easy as people think to film, present and edit.. but it takes time and practice 😊. You'd be great! Danny 🌱
@@TheGrowUpChannel Thank you so much Danny, I'll give filming a go - I just suck at articulating myself on the fly.. obviously I imagine it becomes second nature when you've done it as long as you! I will take that compost advice, I was cautious at first as the plot has some history of mice so I didn't want to attract any with a bin as some neighbours advised on that (not sure I fully believe them though). I've got my garlic and onions in cell trays indoors already, thankfully the plot has one single bed already dug and covered over for the past two years so my plan of action it to whack them in there and cover everything else in winter! Any advice for weeding liner? Can't decide between membrane/full plastic liner as talk online about them is mixed. Looking for some decent material for a couple paths and covering for this winter ready for spring!
Danny, look at the NOAA map. You may have a tropical storm heading to Wales and the UK as well as Northern Europe. It is, currently, quite a powerful storm. If you have items vulnerable to wind or heavy rain, better to protect them than lose them. Weird weather continues. 😳🙄
Oh I know! I am a little worried about that. So much was going on in this video, you may have missed me mentioning my fear with the storms coming next week. Fingers crossed for me! Danny 🌱
Was your wardrobe malfunction staged so you could enter the largest cucumber division ? Thanks for the tour Danny, very interesting. I never knew banana shallots could be grown from sets like regular ones , I thought they only grew from seed .
I win every year. Even if I don't compete 😂 oh yeah for sure you can grow banana shallots from sets. They just grow bigger, they don't split and divide. Danny 🌱
I got the woven membrane in Lidl and they probably have it in stock after X Mas if you can wait as it was cheap but good quality unlike the cheap stuff on ebay but another option is Screwfix and Tool Station as they have it on sale sometimes.
hi where do you get your weed matting thingmabob from? the stuff I get from b n m is useless and all tears apart after a couple of months,, plus super excited to see the huge polly and is that mystery plant a purple broc?
Hello. I got mine from eb@y! Lasts ages I find. The trick is to burn the ends. I'll show once my polytunnel is up 😊 it might be a green sprouting broccoli or something.. I didn't sow any but who knows haha
@@TheGrowUpChannel ill have to look as I need it to try n kill the front lawn so I can use it to grow food lol I'm still on the waiting list for a lottie its been over 2 years now lol

Danny 🌱
@@TheGrowUpChannel ooh now that's a thought about Malvern, will have to see how far away it is from me 🙂
Wow what a full and fun video. 😊 love the net cage you built. Far more practical than the short oval ring type that’s only good for short plants. You could design and patent it. Looks like a wonderful time at Malvern 😂 poor Danny split his pants. You had to make the day more exciting eh 😂.
👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Oh wouldn't that be good, my very own gardening gadget! I mean.. I own enough of them haha! I know the ripped trousers could only happen to me haha
It’s close to frost maybe tonight, but the high temps will remain after Monday.
I can't wait to see the massive new tunnel and getting everything ready for next year now will pay off in the long run.
Oh me too! Everything's all ordered and ready to be built ie. New staging! Cheers Ian! Danny 🌱
Nice update Danny
I think the plant was a sprouting broccoli should harvest it in spring
Thanks matey. Hope you're well! I thought a broccoli variety.. except I haven't sown or planted any haha.. a mystery! 😂
@@TheGrowUpChannel yes all good here just started a new job so hence no videos or a lack of … settled in now so going to get some content out soon 👍🏼👌
@from_plot_to_plate_no_dig it happens mate! Life will always get in the way! Look forward to your videos returning. Danny 🌱
u be so glad of your new polytunnel you are positively beaming x planted my garlic 4 weeks ago already 14" high lol but spring onions are skinny
I can't wait now! I plant my garlic around 31st October every year 😊
@@TheGrowUpChannel awww am sure it will happen plan ahead maybe even plant them in pots beforehand, thats where my garlic is now lol
Danny 🌱
best bit about Savoy is the leaves holdmore Gravy than normal cabbage 🤣
Well.. a cabbage is 99% leaves 😂😂 I think homemade gravy from the water of boiled savoy. Beautiful!
@@TheGrowUpChannel Yes, they always have lovely display, great for pictures 😊😉
Why thank you! Erm I'll take a look and find out three name of the garden centre for you. Yeah malvern is dog friendly on a Sunday. 😊🌱
Haha lesson learnt! Extra trousers 😂😂😂 yes maybe 1/3 of a malvern onion haha
Did anyone win a prize
Danny re hoops I use that metal bar that goes rusty they come in different lengths I poke in ground then my poly pipe over top means I can have any height I want and lasts years. I even used for the top section of old cheap
Poly shed so have roof type shape on legs great for taller brassicas.
There's only a fee panes of glass. There's now 6ft between tunnel and greenhouse. I am still considering moving it, it's the weather that's putting me off. Moving it and anchoring it down before this hurricane. That's my fear! No that lady was Freddies Mum! Danny 🌱
Looks like sprouting broccoli.
Could possibly be that! Hmm.. we shall see...
The cable ties might fix your trousers Danny😉.
Haha! If only I had a few on me that day haha
I think another Polytunnel is probably the best option for the empty space where the old tunnel was😁.
Absolutely not 😂😂 I have plenty of undercover growing now 😂😂
Feeling I like I missed out on Malvern!! ... goes to block the Spring show out of my diary now 🏃🏼♀
Looking forward to the live tomorrow! warning: I sound a bit croaky as I've been hit with the winter lurgy (boo!)
ps ps (sorry commenting as I'm watching haha!) Looks like the tall plant by your sprouts is PSB?
Dora join us on the Sunday- spring malvern!!
❤
😊🌱
@justtus oh fantastic! What's your name? I'd get a weed membrane that allows drainage or it'll bog up :)
Danny 🌱
I didn't know if you were referring to a different storm system or not.
The path looks like it's going further south.
It's okay :) It's heading our way next week sadly. Fingers crossed.
One year I intend to do a few RHS Shows, living in New Zealand Spring shows are better for me.
Oh you really should visit!
Danny 🌱
id move your green house to the other plot then you can put all the plants that your going to plant on that side in it
I know.. I'm just worried about the storms heading our way.. I'd worry I haven't enough time to anchor it down as its rain all week now. Grrr
Your mystery plant looks like one that Jesse from Plot 37 grew from seeds that she got on her holiday last year. Cavalinero, or something like that?
I remember that episode. That was called 'Minestra Nera'. Similar leaf to mine! We sgall see haha! Thanks Karen 😊🌱
Hi Danny... I was just wondering where you got you weed membrane from that you have covered the ground where the new tunnel so going? Thanks
I got mine from eb@y. It's cheaper to buy in bigger sheets.
Great pumpkin harvest! What are the green nobly ones called?
Thanks Rhys! They are called Zombie F1. I'd save you seed, but they are F1. so maybe order a packet :)
@TheGrowUpChannel brill thanks, will add them to the list 😃
@RhysK19 haha they are great for archways too!
@@TheGrowUpChannel oh perfect! Josh was talking about growing over the arch ☺️
@RhysK19 babyboo & jack be little are fab too. (White and orange)
🎃❤
😊🌱🧡
Could that green plant in with your sprouts be a spigarello ? Type of kale, looks like mine 🤷♀️. X
Someone else said that.. but I didn't sow any 😂
@TheGrowUpChannel stray seed ? If its the only one. X
@angelialafbery508 there's 2 haha but possibly..
👀
😂
Mystery plant is Spigariello?
I thought this when it was smaller actually, didn't sow them either. But the stem seems a lot thicker.. we shall see! Haha
👍❤❤❤❤🎃🎃🎃🎃
😊🌱🧡🍃🌿
Tree cabbage?
Now this was my theory... I kinda hope not tbh.. as they grow huge and that's not an idea bed for them haha! I didn't sow any though... Danny 🌱
Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm. Helping to raise some very low spirits 😔. Best of luck with the polytunnel. em in va.
Hello! Oh I'm glad I'm helping. It's a dark and lonely time through autumn and winter so I'll aim to keep them as positive as possible. 😊❤️🌱
Thanks Kathy! 😊🌱
