I appreciate you advising us that the garden should be a place of joy rather than stress! Too often, I see UA-cam taglines of “must do now” or “must sow in July”, giving us the impression that if we don’t, we are inadequate. Gardening is a bit of a dance, and the garden will evolve with us in its own time.

I also appreciate you noticing. It's very rare you'll see me do a video where I say DO THIS FOR AMAZING CROPS . I feel it's setting people up for a possible failure. We all garden differently. I prefer to just show people what I am doing and if I inspire someone to try something. Lovely. If they garden differently to me. That's okay too ♥️ Gardening is definitely a bit of a dance. I love that!

Totally agree with what you said. I actually was offended by some of those titles-‘You are a fool-crazy, ect. If you don’t plant these in whatever month’. We all don’t have 180+ growing days! And I felt a bit offended being called names and yet they have over a million followers. One caught on to how offensive it was and now editing in other zone growers with their input on what they are growing for said month.

Well done for tackling the jungle! You freed so much space! You are like me, I ignore instructions!!!🤣😂, Grinch is the one that reads them! You gave me a good laugh! Great idea that goose neck! Johnny and Emma’s polytunnel looks great! I do like the feel of that old shed. I am looking forward to see how you transform it! You are absolutely right, sometimes life gets in the way of spending time on our plot and it is hard to fight the guilty feeling it gives us. Love your sweet peas! I was so happy to see how quickly your beans grew as I have just direct sow some, so hopefully they will grow like yours! Aphids are as much of a pain as the slugs! Love your videos! 😘🌸💕

Firstly Danny, be kind to yourself!
Wow you’ve done an amazing job clearing the brambles, finding a water barrel and the gate is a bonus. Thank you for the tip on the aphids on the nasturtiums, I didn’t know that. Will be checking my nasturtiums as I have them growing in the garden year round. The plots are looking amazing, you should be giving yourself a pat on the back.

Please make sure you get enough rest as you need it due to, work, studying, home tasks & allotment too! Your plot looks amazing, you can catch up when you have time. Making Lasagna tomorrow (from scratch) so going to make black beauty courgette strips and layer them on top of the bolognaise, under the pasta sheets, instead of half moons. Funnily enough, my late Mother in law has a book called "what to do with all of those courgettes" that i might dig out!

Danny go buy the cheapest beer you can find and pour it in a pie tin and put it anywhere the slugs are attacking. I tried this for the first time last week and NO KIDDING AT ALL ended up with almost a POUND of slugs in 3 days that went into the pan and drowned. I will never try anything else it worked so good and it only cost me 99 cents for a tall boy can of Natty Daddy beer. I'm still using the same beer and it's still working. I just strained out all the dead slugs and poured the beer back into the pie tins and set them back out. And I just love you and your video's. I get happy everytime you post. Please keep them coming.

The bramble roots are actually going to be more of a problem than any material left laying around. would really recommend digging em up come fall. You can win with constant cutting but any lazy/busyness allowing it to green will really re-invigorate their energy store quickly. I've been fighting them for a few years and am lazy ;P
I paint difficult ones I won't be mowing over with glyphosate. Really does wonders and works down into those roots for me.
The slugs you can just harvest at night and/or morning for a week and you should be fine. I just throw them out to the other side of property.
all of these look amazing. We can't always do perfect work but we can just keep doing work and learning better ways. You get more out of it then you put in eventually.
I personally only remove weeds that start to compete with what I'm planting. They will colonize and improve the worst of soils. They will bring deep nutrients to the surface when they die. They cover and protect soil below. They attract different insects too. I currently have a giant weed like a lettuce growing where some things I planted got axed by bugs. The bugs are attacking it more than any other plant in my garden... so I just leave it there and I even water it lmao. When its time is done, I will clear it and plant something new in that spot. Just like I do with anything else.
The only thing that really bugs me is grass. It is the worst of all weeds by far.
On the aphids. Just keep a spray bottle (or hose) handy and spray them off. They fall to the ground and they will die, they won't climb back up. You can make it a gentle soapy water if you really want to ensure they die on the spot. Or just leave em be and wait for their predators to show up. I only sprayed off 1 tomato plant this year. The bramble I put glyphosate on actually attracted ALL the aphids here this year. They like either over-nitrogened plants or weak plants.

Re the gutter my concern watching is the mesh bag as filling with debris will block the holes and water won’t get through. My advice get some gutter cover which stops debris going into gutter. Little expense but worth it long term. Do you water everything by water can?
    As for instructions no

I fell in the garden last November and fractured my shoulder, ouch! And I'm still struggling 😣. So take care Danny, and remember slowly slowly catch a monkey 🐒. Sending love & light 🦋🏵🐞🌹🐝 xx

Hi Danny this our first year having an allotment and we are loving in, so much so we have taken on the next door plot too. We are ready to invest in either a greenhouse or poly tunnel. If you could only have one which would you choose?

    • @TheGrowUpChannel
      @TheGrowUpChannel  Місяць тому

Honestly. They both have their own benefits. Polytunnels have more space for aeration and warm up really well (don't go too big! The bigger they are, the harder they are to warm in early spring. So only buy for what you need, is my advice) but a greenhouse is also a lovely building. If I had to choose... polytunnel everytime 🌱♥️

Very few men read instructions! Yes, it is a man thing! It's so much less frustrating to take a minute and at least look at the pictures. 🤣🤣🤣 But don't be embarrassed, you are not alone! You could drop those nasturtium leaves in a pail of water and drown the aphids. You wouldn't have to carry them away and they would make a great soil additive!
