Hey tube! According the Soloking the original long shaft version doesn’t have benefits over the newer short shaft version. From what they’ve told me, the short shaft version has a stronger spool shaft that will not bend under pressure as easily, and it is also almost 1g lighter than the long shaft spool. Now most of that weight is along the center axis and so how much it actually helps reduce the moment of inertia is beyond me but in my experience I was able to cast lower weights with the pro vs the original reel. Many say that the pro model is a bit underbraked but you can always add some 0.5mm thick 4mm diameter n52 magnets to the existing one to increase the overall brake strength. Cheers my friend!

Hey Arlo! Hmm… as far as a budget spool for the 2500c is concerned I’m not too sure… I know AMO makes one and they are on aliexpress but I’m not sure how much cheaper they are compared to avail. I don’t think I’ve seen any budget spools for the Ambassadeur unfortunately… sorry about that and cheers my friend!

Hey game! So the side plate bearing is held in by a spring clip. You will have to use some forceps to remove one of the arms of the spring clip and then the clip should be able to be removed. Keep in mind that the spring clips acts like a spring and can fly off into oblivion. I like to try and keep my thumb over the clip while removing it and also work in a well lit and clutter free area in case it does fly off. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

@gamefixxer5974 hey game! Hm… it could be because the bearing isn’t being pulled out of the housing straight. If the bearing starts getting pulled at an angle the edges of the housing might start digging into the side plate. If you have something that has a small right angle and is fairly strong you can try working the bearing loose. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to invest in a bearing puller tool. I got one from roro a while back that I’ve enjoyed using. You can also try using a small screw driver and angling so that you can work the bearing free but so so equally from all sides of the bearing so that it doesn’t come out at a severe angle. Hey toong! I somewhat agree with you regarding doing your own “pretune” for reels to make the tolerances even better. However, many folks do not have the comfort to do this type of work. Also, really these reels should come with better tolerances and no need to fix issues like a poorly shimmed line guide. I hope Histar addresses these issues soon. Cheers my friend!

Hey Arlo! Unfortunately, I never got a chance to use the reel in its stock form as it was in such a poor state that it needed to be rebuilt before being able to be used. After the upgrades though, and since this video I’ve actually installed the magnetic brakes along with the corresponding spool, I can cast 0.8g decently. I say decently because I have not tried to test the lower limits of what it can do as likely I’d be casting lures over 1g with this reel due to the fiberglass rods it would be paired with. @@KastkingAngler hey kastkingangler! These use the same magnetic “dynamic” brakes that you find in the kestrel elite and kestrel reels. As for ordering, I am working on a video and vetting a process for getting these reels in the US. I just want to be sure that the process is legitimate before sharing. Alternatively, my guess is that kastking will be selling these as “mfs” reels but probably not this specific model. I believe they will be importing the higher priced kestrel elite pro as a kestrel elite “mfs” reel potentially. Cheers my friend!

@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Kestrel elite has FAF or flyout arc finesse braking. If ve2 has that type of braking, it will be a great reel.

@KastkingAngler hey Kka! Yep it also uses the FAF brakes possible tuned a bit different. The biggest difference though is the spool weight. This one has a much lighter spool than the current kestrel elite. Cheers my friend!

@@samsmith5816 hey sam! Which reel did you take apart? Did you by any chance either put the anti reverse bearing or the anti reverse ratchet gear in backwards? Those might cause your handle not to turn. Cheers my friend!

⁠@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL ahhh I meant to comment on the tender shoot tear down video. My apologies. I believe they are both in correctly. When I click the thumb bar the ratchet gear fits in nicely and I put the anti reverse bearing in with the white part facing down like you said in the video. I can turn it and get the thumb bar to disengage. Once I put the plate back on, it will no longer turn.

@@samsmith5816 hey sam! Hm… can you check to see if maybe the spool magnetic induction plate is attached correctly? I have heard of issues with that being adhered incorrectly… it might be causing some sort of clearance issue and not allowing the handle to turn. Is it completely frozen or does it turn a little? @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I believe the plate is fine because the problems start before before I put brake plate back on. I can turn it in reverse and can turn it the correct way until I put the main gear housing back on. then it will not turn in the correct direction.

@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I think I figured it out. I flipped the anti reverse bearing. The white plastic looking ring on the sleeve goes the opposite way as yours on my reel and it works. Mine also did not pair the flat washers and the opposing washers and instead paired one flat with one opposing in each pair. Kind of frustrating.

@@theo.7970 hey Theo! Solid tips are good for soft plastics fishing where you don’t want the fish to feel much in the way of resistance when they pick up your lure. You don’t need to impart as much action/control as you do with a hard lure typically. While you typically don’t have as much bite sensitivity with solid tipped rods I have to say that the zero is extremely sensitive. Not quite sure how they accomplished that but the zero is a very sensitive rod for a solid tipped rod. Anywho, what type of fishing are you doing? What type of lures, waters, and fish are you going for? Cheers my friend!

I'd go bigger/heavier as needed for any bite I'm not entirely sure where in the water the bite is, I just moved out to the east SF bay area and live 7 minutes from a pier/jetty park. I haven't fished there yet, all my bass gear is with my folks many miles away

@@dnullify100 hey dnull! Right on! I’d probably go with a 100 or 200 bfs reel. For budget options, you can check out the Seasir commando, Soloking BMC100, Soloking GKA200 w/shallow spool, or Miselure Fox. All of these are basically variants of the dark wolf KF50 but in a slightly larger size. They will get the job done and won’t break the bank. What have you decided on for rod choices? Hey 20! The main difference between this reel and the elite is the frame material being magnesium and the spool diameter being 30mm. The elite uses an aluminum frame material and a 32mm diameter. They mainly advertise the Ultra Air as sort of an all around do it all reel. As for the on the water impressions I am not sure when I plan to release that. I want to get a good feel for what the reel is like before I give my impressions on the reel. Currently I’ve got quite a few reels to test and look at as well. My current testing fmethod is to use a reel, then visit other reels and then come back to it a bit later so that I might see things that I hadn’t before. Currently, I have found a few nitpicks things about this reel and some odd findings but overall it has been quite nice. Cheers my friend!

Hey gene! I don’t recommend salt use with this reel but it can. Just make sure to give the reel a rinse in freshwater after every use and allow it to thoroughly dry. You will experience corrosion of parts like the bearings and springs but if you do a bit of maintenance you can slow this down. You’ll want to put a thin layer of grease over any internal metal part. Hey Domenus! Thanks so much for the kind words! While I never published any videos of the alde with the KKR spool I can answer your question. Imho, I was able to cast slightly lures more consistently and with less backlashes after adding the KKR spool. From my memory, the lightest lure I could cast was 1g. I think the biggest improvement the KKR spool gave the Aldebaran was a lower backlash rate than with the mgl spool. Cheers my friend!

Hey user! It looks like you are referring to the washer? These will basically go on the same side that the line is bunching up on the spool. They will act to move the line guide away from the side that it is spending too much time on(ie heavily biasing the line lay).
