Always clear and consistently relatable vids Peter with the good, bad, and sometimes ugly. Thank you. FYI, I've been using the Silver Feather (SF) mostly--almost exclusively--during a weekly, evening kayak tournament series this summer. I just started the series in July--a very HOT and humid decision for kayak fishing in KS and NOT in a good way. Lake fishing for Largemouth and Smallmouth Black Bass exclusively. I started post spawn. Min. qualifying size is 8". Catch, Photograph, and Release (CPR) method used to score 3 fish each week on a Ketch board. I carry 5 setups: a heavy baitcaster on a medium rod (not used but once or twice trying heavy crankbaits), the SF on a light rod, a Cast-X on a light, my DWU on light and an Acura on ul. Have been really surprised at how well the SF held up with consistent power bfs use and weed edge fishing mostly with wacky and ned rigs. I'm fishing (and playing catchup) with some horribly good fisherpersons. But, my BFS reels have all continued to perform this year. Hope you are doing well. .
Hey cal! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the Silver Feather! So awesome to hear that you’re in a tournament! Much luck to you and tight lines my friend! Cheers cal!
Hey mojo! Very good to hear that! I think for those folks that are comfortable to work on their own reels that this might be a good deal but… due to the high number of QC issues I can’t in good conscience recommend this reel. Cheers my friend!
Hey Patrick! My pleasure! I’ve been so busy lately that it’s been difficult to get a video edited lol. I’ve had this video sitting around for a couple weeks now 😅. Cheers my friend!
How DARE you mention the well deserved criticisms!! I definitely notice those as well, but I LOVE it for my panfish fishing! The intro price was nuts how high it was. Glad it went down in price.
Hey matt! Yea… histar knows of the issues but it just seems like what they care about more is bringing out new versions they can make money off of… I will revisit Histar if they ever get around to fixing their QC problems but until then I can’t really recommend them to anyone without a huge disclaimer stating that they have known issues and can potentially require tear downs. Cheers my friend!
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL - same here! I can only reccomend them for super light duty, with the same disclaimers. I'm a bit dissapointed that they settled on that QC standard. Maybe they will be like KastKing and eventually produce way better products
Hey 60! Yea I think you’ll find that that is actually the better purchase and money better spent imho. This one just has a lighter spool and some snazzier looking bits but they are the same reel otherwise. In my testing the aurora air even casts better which is odd… cheers my friend!
@@jimonisjimi hey jimon! This is definitely one you are ok to pass on… As the quality control is so low it’s hard to recommend these Histar reels to people sadly. I really wish Histar would focus on improving the quality of their products instead of trying to make new versions of this reel. A bit frustrating as the reels cast well… Cheers my friend!
1.95 gram spool on the black one!!!!!? That’s nuts. Can’t believe they still mess up the washers. But atleast it comes with fully working knobs 😂 I’m slowly fixing up the AA per the recommendations. Slowly growing on it as an abuse kit.
Hey bedok! Yea I think they are measuring the weight without the bearing, spool pin and possibly even spool shaft to get that reported weight. As far as the knobs go… they are quite possibly the worst non-shimmed knobs I have ever come across… Cheers my friend!
Hey doc! Thank you again for providing the reel to review. I plan on doing some casting comparisons so stay tuned for that. Thank you again and cheers my friend!
Histar has not impressed me with their BFS reel offerings so far. I bought the Aurora Air and returned it. It felt like something you would expect to get from Matel, although that's probably disrespecting Matel a bit! 😂 When I first saw this one listed, and the price they were asking, I was hoping they had come out with a higher end magnesium version. Great vid as always Peter!
Hey Dan! Yea… the polycarbonate doesn’t feel very high quality imho. It has a very “hollow” feeling to it which is probably why they switched the black version’s material to this new “contix” material. Outside of that… the low quality control makes the reels feel quite cheap imho… Thanks for sharing and cheers my friend!
Hey Jo! I’m really sorry but I have no plans on reviewing that reel currently. I might be interested to look at the reel but I will be out of the country for a couple of weeks and so won’t have much time to review new products for a bit. I do, however, have a few videos schedule for release during my departure. I’m not super interested in checking the reel out but I will talk to dankung and see if they might be willing to give me a discount for purchasing one as the channel funds have become a bit tight after all of the recent review purchases. I appreciate the suggestion and cheers my friend!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Thank you for responding and all the videos you pump out! Really appreciate all the hard work you do for the community, and it's helped me personally buy/try BFS and have hours and hours of fun!

Funny I have the Dragon version. Totally different experience. Smooth drag clicker, very little play handle knops, perfect line layup, but not solid retrieve feeling. It is the best casting reel (0.5-5 grams), I have tried. Significant better than Alderbaran 2016 and Alphas SS air after I have flushed the bearings. Yes it can cast 0.5 grams!!!. Why don't you cast it side by side with the Alderbaran 2022? I bet it will smoke the Shimano (if you flush the bearings first) Just ordered the silver version. These reels make my total combos below 150 grams (rod, reel, line and lure). This is true BFS. Everything above 150 grams is just ordinary baitcaster gear😆
Hey Chan! Yes, many of the new 28mm spool bfs reels that are out nowadays will put the 22’ Aldebaran to shame. That said, since I sold my Aldebaran I won’t be able to use it for a comparison and really it was never made to cast under 1g. I will do a comparison with other 28mm spool reels though! Cheers my friend!
Hey Patrick! That’s awesome to hear! However, that’s not the entire story for reels and quality control does matter. Remember the sembo? Very good casting reel but put together so poorly that I would never recommend that reel to anyone in a million years. Cheers my friend!
Hey I was looking to get into BFS and was wondering on what your recommendations would be. I live in the North East and fish mostly lakes/ponds from the bank. For the rod I thought the Purelure cedan looked interesting. I would want a rod the could fit easily on or in a bag, so ideally a multi-piece rod. For the reel the MIIEC Silver Feather and Arise Ultra air both looked interesting but it is hard to find real world reviews of both. Any help would be great, preferably within the 250-300$ range for the combo.
Hey David! Right on! Ooc how set are you on using a 4 piece rod? Would it be ok to get away with using a 2 piece? Also, what sort of length are you looking at mainly? I’ve been using the 592 Cedan and the 632 zero and I feel like the zero is a more versatile rod and a bit lighter in power while still having good backbone to get into larger fish. That rod paired with the MIIEC EXA is a really awesome combo in my book. The EXA is a 28mm spool reel but it can cast such a versatile weight range vs the ultra air. Also, to take full advantage of the ultra airs weight range it requires you to adjust the spool rotor which means more fiddling with your side plate. The exa just requires some adjusting of the brake dial and you’re good to go. Much simpler. Let me know about the rod questions I had but I recommend the miiec exa over the ultra air. Cheers my friend!
@@davidbershad7836 hey David! Yea take a look at the purelure 632LC zero rod. I’ve had a really fun time using this combo. While the cedan is also a fun rod it is a bit higher of a power rating than the zero. Also, the current guide count on the 592 cedan is too low imho. The zero 632 has 9 guides which is still low but it is acceptable. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!
Histar seem to be happy to produce great reels but with minor faults. Even my black mamba has a slight knock when reeling it in. It doesn't seem to effect performance though
Hey Frank! Yea… the bad thing is the faults make it hard to recommend to newcomers without a disclaimer. I really wish Histar was more focused on fixing the issues it has with its reels over bringing more new versions out with mainly the same issues… quite frustrating really imho. I won’t be recommending Histar reels as such. If they ever decide to work on fixing the quality control problems I’ll be willing to take another look though. Cheers my friend!
