Non clicking spool tension has also become my preferred option, seems adjustments would be more precise. Also the knob covers are brilliant, it like to see aftermarket brands offering things like this.
Hey Jacob! Yea I agree. Non clicking spool tension just gives a lot more fine tune resolution similar to brake dials that don’t click. I get why people like them but really non clicking brake dials and tension knob is best imho. I think the knob covers are a pretty awesome idea as well. Hope to see more companies bring these to market as I bet the customization they could bring to would be pretty cool! Cheers my friend!
Wasn’t that tempted by the original, but the slew of updated metal framed reels are intriguing. The knob covers are a welcome addition!
Hey jano! Agreed! It’s pretty awesome to see more magnesium alloy frame reels coming to market. There are some minor gripes that I’ve got with this reel which I’ll go over in the short term impressions as there are a few. That said, the reel does feel quite premium with a bit of that familiar Haibo geariness lol. Probably can be shimmed to reduce that. Cheers my friend!
Nice Pete! Looks like a very versatile reel with such wide casting weight. I like the little extra knob covers to.. a nice touch by Haibo! 👌🏼
Hey kalle! Yea I think this will excel kind of in the 3-7g range at least that’s my guess. The 30mm spool diameter should lend itself to that a bit. Looking forward to testing the reel out and yea the handle knob covers are pretty nifty! Cheers my friend!

Still getting some use out of the reel and would love to get into a meaningful sized fish but if I can’t manage anything then I’ll still do a short term impression video soon. Would you say this reel is smoother than the aldebaran bfs? I well and truly enjoy reels with little to no geariness - is this maybe similar in smoothness to the Metanium?
Hey Magnus! No unfortunately mine has a bit of geariness present which is likely due to the star drag stack being shimmed a bit thin. When the star drag is a bit tighter the reel feels smoother but the Aldebaran and metanium are both smoother reels overall. Shimano had micromodule down to a science. Geariness is one thing CDM manufacturers are a bit hit or miss on and while it’s not terrible it’s also not a wonderful feeling as well. If you want reels with no geariness at all you’ll probably have to stick with daiwa or shimano for the time being. That said there are a few CDM reels that are on the same level of smoothness as daiwa and shimano but Haibo still has a bit of work in that department I think. Another contributing factor to perceived geariness are also the bearings used. If manufacturers use ceramic or hybrid ceramic bearings it can add a bit of “roughness” to the retrieve which people might incorrectly attribute to geariness. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Hey Theo! Interestingly enough, I feel like the Tsurinoya elf ajing pairs with this reel extremely well. Sadly though I am not able to find it in stock anywhere currently. Hey Frank!!! Haha I appreciate the young man comment =). Don’t know that I quite classify as a young man anymore but I will take it!!! As for your question, I think I would be hesitant to use this reel in salt conditions but I will check with Haibo. The reason I feel like it should be avoided with this is that on the main gear side of the inner portion of the frame you can actually see some exposed alloy. Magnesium is extremely oxidation prone in salt water and so unless this is some special magnesium alloy that is resistant to corrosion I’d probably avoid salt use with this. Ooc, what specifications are you looking for in a salt reel? What lure weight range, how much line, what line goh, price range, frame material preferences and finally are you looking for long distance casting? Cheers my friend!

What is it about this reel that is supposed to surpass the Elite? What warrants the considerable price jump? What are they advertising as its selling points? Any idea when the 'on the water' review is coming? I haven't seen anyone else on the net do a review for this reel. It makes me wonder if there are some significant cons.
Hey 20! The main difference between this reel and the elite is the frame material being magnesium and the spool diameter being 30mm. The elite uses an aluminum frame material and a 32mm diameter. They mainly advertise the Ultra Air as sort of an all around do it all reel. As for the on the water impressions I am not sure when I plan to release that. I want to get a good feel for what the reel is like before I give my impressions on the reel. Currently I’ve got quite a few reels to test and look at as well. My current testing fmethod is to use a reel, then visit other reels and then come back to it a bit later so that I might see things that I hadn’t before. Currently, I have found a few nitpicks things about this reel and some odd findings but overall it has been quite nice. Cheers my friend!
Can you check if spool is compatible with Haibo air ?
Hey Alex! Unfortunately, it will not be compatible. This is because the arise air, arise elite and arise ultra air all have different spool diameters; 28mm, 32mm and 30mm respectively. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Both Haibos I bought feel slightly geary and are somewhat noisy. My buddy got one too and it was geary feeling but not as noisy. I wonder if the magnesium frame on these new ones help with that
Hey Matt! Haha yea I just responded to another comment about the geary feeling and I’m fairly sure I mentioned that in the video? If not, then yea this one has a bit of that as well. The magnesium frame won’t really help much in regards to reducing that. It’s going to be more of an issue with the shimming of the star drag stack but also ultimately the cutting of the main gear and pinion teeth. I have to see how and when the gear meshing causes that feeling as jinsuo mentioned that his reels feel more geary under load and it’s not really something I experienced with my old Haibo arise air or the Ark gravity bfs. Instead, I felt the geariness more while the reels were not under load. As far as the noise is concerned I feel like that is likely being caused by your bearings and I wonder if they are hybrid ceramics. I’ll reach out to Haibo and ask them about that. Cheers my friend!
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL - that makes sense! It's not too bad but noticeable. The Haibos definitely perform well which is awesome, so the slight geary feeling especially while on the water isn't a big deal. I definitelyonly noticed them being smooth under load, even just reeling the bait back...I just keep them on my loaner rods 😉 just kidding
@@mattmain237 hey Matt! Yea that kinda tells me that likely the issue is more to do with shimming than gear mesh/cutting. You could possibly try replacing a thin washer in your star drag stack with a slightly thicker one. However, when you do this it will make the lowest drag setting a bit higher so there’s a tiny tradeoff. Alternatively you can try adding a very thin shim under the main gear where the main gear shaft bearing is. Anywho, I appreciate you taking the time to comment and chat with me! Cheers my friend!

I did notice when I change handles on some of my reels, and torque the handle nut down pretty tight, it also makes it smoother. You totally reminded me to go look for some thin shim washers today at the hardware store. Thanks!

Hey Pac-Man! Yea they’re getting better and better at their craft. Still not 100% in some areas but they’re at the point where you don’t really need to batt an eye at jdm options if you don’t want to or can’t afford them. Loongze seems like a great product. But still a bit high even for cdm . But, better quality often costs more

Can the reel handle saltwater fishing applications?
Hey lofi! So I asked Haibo and they said that the magnesium is an oxidized form and so should be able to handle the salt. However, I always take salt ratings with a grain of… salt… I’d make sure to maintain and even do a good premaintenance on a reel before using it in the salt. This would include adding a light coating of grease to much of the internals and also giving the reel a decent rinse in freshwater after use in salt water. Cheers my friend!

I'm totally lost in all those latest chinese reel developments.
What would a decent chinese reel of those recent models be that could serve as a replacement for the good old Haibo Smart on a 1 oz bass rod for (hard plastic jerkbait) lures ranging from ~10g to ~25g?
I'd imagine it would need to have about the same reel diameter as the Smart, which is 34mm IIRC.
Is there anything at all, actually? Everyone seems to be crazy about BFS these days, are there any reels for the 1-oz range?
Hey user! I mean seeing as my channel focuses on BFS gear it would make sense that I focus on… BFS reels? I might be the wrong person to ask about reels for the lure weight range you are looking for. Apologies but it’s just a different category and a completely different class of reels that the channel doesn’t focus on. To be honest, for $190 price tag I would suggest to buy Shimano ALDEBARAN BFS or Daiwa Alpha Air. I have Haibo Pro+ and Haibo Elite and used for a while. It is smooth without load, but you can feel its gear‘s teeth clearly under load such as using VIB.
Hey Jinsuo! Long time no talk!!! I do agree that the Haibo reels I’ve owned have bit a bit geary and that the Aldebaran is quite smooth but I think these reels fit different roles and are still at different price ranges. The Aldebaran is going for around $60 more than this reel is. I haven’t really bothered looking at the daiwa AA as it’s an older reel now and no drag clicker. Imho, modern bfs reels should include clickers but that’s neither here nor there. Back to the geary feeling… yea this reel also has a bit of that under 0 load and a loose star drag. When you tighten the drag a lot of that feeling goes away but there is still a small amount of geary feeling so I think it’s a combination of needing a thicker washer in the star drag stack but also maybe some slight issues with gear cutting. It’s not a deal breaker though but yes I agree that they should be getting better at making their gears mesh better. I will have to see how the feeling is under load as I haven’t tested that yet. @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I think the main reason is the reel's processing accuracy. You can see its one-way bearing is loose and easy to take off which will cause main gear wears quickly under load. That is the root cause of geary feeling after used a while even a new reel comes smooth. Japanese reel has a higher processing accuracy makes it last smooth for a longer time in my opinion.
@jinsuozhang9432 hey jinsuo! Not sure where you are getting that the anti reverse bearing on this reel is loose? I haven’t done a tear down and so haven’t explored that. Additionally, the arise air actually had the AR bearing press for quite well and screwed in iirc. I would expect the same for this reel. One thing that the Haibo have that the alde also doesn’t have is a keyed AR bearing sleeve. It makes the Aldebaran have quite a bit of handle slop and I don’t quite understand why Shimano couldn’t just provide a keyed AR bearing sleeve… I have talked with Haibo and they have said that they are working on improving the gear mesh but also I replaced a thin star drag washer and quite a bit of the geariness was removed. So I think for this reel it might be mostly due to improper shimming and less a gear meshing issue. Anywho, I gotta say that CDM still isn’t quite at the level of micromodule and digigear but they’re quite close and have produced some stellar reels like the cormorant. I even sold my Aldebaran because imho the cormorant is a superior performing reel in almost every way. I bought the Haibo Arise Elite during the last sale. It hasn't even arrived yet, and they've already come out with something newer. Just my luck! 🤦🏻♂️

Hey Dan! Well here’s the odd thing… Haibo has said that this isn’t supposed to be officially for sale in the US =\. I’ve also checked with one aliexpress store and they flat out said they can’t ship to the US… you may have gotten lucky with your elite purchase. In any case, the elite is still a metal framed reel and a bit cheaper than this. Cheers my friend!

Man that awful grey color is just like….why? It’s like this manufacturer specializes in awful boring colors, 90% of all their bfs reels look like this. Like just make it black at this rate, this reel looks like graphite from a mechanical pencil.
Hey John! Haha fair point but I will say on the flip side that most reels out there are a silver, gray, or black because they’re technically “neutral” tones that kind of match with most other colors. I, for one, really liked the bold outrageous blue and orange color scheme of the FF01 kingfisher but a lot of people absolutely hated it.. =\. It’s hard to please everyone is what I’ve gleaned but it might be nice to offer multiple colorways so people have choices? Imho, the gunmetal isn’t too bad and actually is a bit different from most gunmetal silvers as it’s got some rainbow-y flakes in it. Probably the camera didn’t pick any of that up but my daughter pointed that out to me… lol she’s an expert in shiny glittery things so very easy for her to pick up on that haha. I do understand your point though and hear you loud and clear. I would love nothing more than to see some more variety in colorways but mass appeal typically wins out sometimes. Anywho, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and cheers my friend!
