    Fantastic teardown Peter. It reminds why I try not to teardown my reels too much, I would forget where everything goes. This looks like a very impressive reel that Daiwa and Shimano should be worried about

      Hey Frank! I believe in you! Just takes some repetition and you’ll have enough muscle memory to get through teardowns blindfolded! Seriously, though reels are so similar nowadays that it’s a fairly simple process. That being said, I totally get it if it’s not your thing but if you’re ever a bit adventurous then I highly suggest giving it a whirl! I will agree that the internals are well made and feel robust to me. I do wish that the main gear had a bit more in terms of the number of teeth but now I know why I was feeling a bit of geariness. The trade off is that the main gear looks to be quite robust. Anywho, thanks so much as always for leaving such kind words and cheers my friend!

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  10 місяців тому

      @@MsTheSteffy hey emjay! Haha fair question! The reason why I wear gloves is to protect myself and my little one. I do a fair bit of tearing reels down and the greases and oils that typically come with these reels are hydrocarbon based. As such, there’s technically a bit of hazardous material there. I’d like to reduce as much of that going onto my skin and my little one’s skin as possible because a tiny amount will build up over time and it’s just another thing that I can do to make things safer for myself and them. I agree that it makes things much harder to do and you’ll notice that I drop things on occasion due to the “slipperiness” but that’s a small price to pay, imho. My work profession is actually in research and safety so using PPE isn’t a far stretch for me as well. Anywho, thanks so much for the question and I hope that helps explain things a bit better! Cheers my friend!

      Hey syfa! Agree on all counts! If you’re interested in casting below 1g I suggest waiting a bit as there are whispers that they are working on a more 1g friendly bfs reel as well. Will try to get more info on that but look to sometime in 2024 if all things go well. Whether the reel is DC or not is also something that remains to be seen. Hope that helps and thanks so much for taking the time to comment! Cheers my friend!

      Hey andrei! If you are into DC tech stay tuned for that. Picked up their DC airlite and it basically uses the same reel body but has a DC capable spool and sideplate. I need to do quite a bit of testing but that reel, if the app does what it says it does, is going to be pretty amazing I think. The price is a bit more at $339… but again, if the app does what it claims to do, then there are pretty darn cool features. Videos coming soon! Cheers my friend!

      @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I am not into DC and I am not sure about their app either. But the problem is this reel is made by Bates Fishing Co. as far as I can understand. So, just like Haibo made the Arise Air while also working on the Ark Gravity, what if Bates will release the real deal later? A more fine tuned version. This is what holds me right now.
      This is a waiting game haha.
      What do you think?

    • @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
      @BFSFISHINGCHANNEL  11 місяців тому +1

      @@andreiiancu5144 hey andrei! That’s a great question. Actually, my guess is that loongze makes reels for bates to their specifications. Also, from my understanding, Loongze will start selling reels in the US soon as evidenced by their website loongzedishingusa.com. So… I don’t think you have too much to worry about. I know that Loongze also has a 1 year parts and labor warranty which I don’t have too many details on but I am more than happy to look into that. I don’t know what exact products are in loongze’s pipeline but I believe, this is unconfirmed, that they do have plans to release a smaller diameter BFS reel. I don’t have details on that but as I think the airlite is more a finesse style reel and geared towards the 3-8g(and maybe higher I have yet to test higher than 8g). While it can do 1g it doesn’t quite excel at it due to the large spool diameter. Anywho, hope that helps! Cheers my friend!

    Good teardown thanks, does the pinion yoke have a metal plate or it is just full plastic? Without a metal plate the plastic yoke where the pinion gear sits in the cut out will eventually wear down especially in gritty or SW conditions.

      Hey fishingelbow! I think it’s mainly because I review a lot of lower priced budget CDM reels and then higher tier jdm reels and what I see in this reel is a far departure from those budget CDM reels. It’s very cool to see the CDM step up and start showing us better quality products and hopefully continue to drive performance higher! Although… we see great performing reels nowadays even in the budget CDM reels. While I am very impressed with the build quality of this I’m a bit less enthused about the price but when you compare it to the likes of other fully CNCd reels you start to see where they’re trying to position themselves. @Benjamin-S hey Benjamin! Yea after tearing the reel down I was really impressed with the build quality that I saw. The gear meshing isn’t 100% perfect but I think that that’s something that will eventually improve and hopefully they’ll have something like digigear/micromodule at some point in the future. I have a few other gripes but overall I think the reel is pretty amazing for a first product for a new CDM brand. Their DC reel is also an eye opener imho. Thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts and insights and cheers my friend!

    • @helotaxi
      @helotaxi 8 місяців тому +1

      @@Benjamin-S with the Shimano MicroModule gears, the pinion has to ride on 2 bearings simply because there is no tolerance for and flex with the gear mesh since the teeth are so small. With other reels, it helps keep them from "locking" under load when the long spool shaft that goes through the pinion on those designs flexes when the gear train is loaded. In the case of this reel, and all other short shaft spool reels, the pinion has to ride on two bearing, otherwise one end would be completely unsupported.

    • @helotaxi
      @helotaxi 8 місяців тому +1

      @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I hope they don't try to emulate the MicroModule. Small pitch gears have a place in high speed applications as they are technically smoother and more efficient, but that comes at the cost of strength and mesh sensitivity. A fishing reel doesn't approach the speeds where this tradeoff makes any kind of sense. It doesn't make the reel any smoother as Diawa has proven that you can make a silky smooth reel with "normal" gear pitches as long as you cut the gears well.
