BBE Sonic Stomp Troubleshooting and Repair
A quick repair video for those who like to see how the troubleshooting process works. Not all repairs are glorious and exciting. Sometimes they are very simple and boring to watch such as this one!
To recap, the pedal wasn't working when the effect was bypassed. This being a true-bypass pedal means it must be wiring, jacks or the switch itself since there are no electrical passive or active components to go bad. A continuity test revealed a bad switch. Simple enough repair, just replace the switch and send it on it's way.

JMP-1 Service - 230V to 120V Conversion and Battery Upgrade
Переглядів 1,5 тис.4 місяці тому
I purchased an old JMP-1 unit from a seller in the U.S. who had at some point originally purchased this from Europe so it was setup to run on 230V. They even included the step-up transformer with the sale. The price was great and the conversion is a very simple process. I also remove the button cell battery from these amps and modify them to use two AA batteries that will be accessible without ...
Rivera Fifty Five Twelve Troubleshooting and Repair Service

This amp came in with a couple ailments. Unwanted noise and a general "it doesn't sound right" are typical complaints but each repair is different. Sometime in this amp's life a tube had shorted and damaged one of the sockets. This needed to be replaced. The second issue was a bad power supply smoothing cap for the 18VDC active effects loop. It should be noted they used 100uF/20V caps in 18V pa...
Service Upgrades and a Detailed Look Inside an '84 Marshall JCM800 2203 Halfstack
Переглядів 4,5 тис.5 місяців тому
A while back I acquired a very nice and clean 2203 halfstack from '84. This was a great year for the amps but not so much for the cabs as the G12M-70's have a pretty bad rap. This was a transitional year for both the cabinets and the heads. The 2203 amplifier would first see the DI jack installed on the rear panel during this year. In 1984 the vertical input models would also be discontinued in...
Liquid spilled into 5150 during show. Diagnosis and Repair Service

A quick and easy repair. A user spilled beer into this amp during a performance and it shut down. After testing the output tubes it appears two of them are fried. Simple enough, let's replace the bad tubes, make sure the bias is within acceptable range and send it home.
Ampeg Super Jet SJ-12T Service and Repair

This amp came in with an issue when using the tremolo. After replacing a few parts and changing out a bad output valve the amp sounds as it should. I found some helpful information on this site as well and would recommend checking into it if you need to work on one of these. abrammorphew.com/notes/2013/04/05/ampeg-super-jet-sj-12t-repair/
How to build a Series Cabinet Combiner
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
I like coming up with solutions for unusual requests. I had a client want to use four cabinets but their amplifier only has two output jacks. To solve this problem I built them a pair of cabinet combiners that will place each pair of his cabinets in series before the two pairs will be paralleled again in the amp. This way all four 8Ω cabinets will be wired together as a single 8Ω load and will ...
Orange Thunderverb Repair - Bias circuit modification and Fun with Phase Inverter tubes!
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
In this video I go through the steps of finding out why there was low volume in this awesome THUNDERVERB 200 amp from ORANGE. Nothing major needed repair however the customer's tubes were not falling within proper bias range. This is correctly easily by lowering a resistor value in the bias circuit and we need to perform the work in a manner that is easily reversible if needed in the future. I ...

4x12 Series Parallel Wiring Tutorial
Переглядів 37 тис.Рік тому
This is a quick instructional video on how to wire a 4x12 speaker cabinet in a SERIES/PARALLEL configuration. When utilizing a SERIES/PARALLEL wiring scheme each pair of speakers is wired in series, then each series pair is wired together in parallel. When all four speakers have the same impedance, your final load will match. If you have four 16 ohm speakers, your final load will be 16 ohms, 8Ω...

Looking forward to your talk about more or fewer filter caps in JCM 800's. I have fewer: 1986, horizontal inputs. I always wondered if it would be worth adding the missing ones. If you were to choose a year of JCM 800 that had the best design/specs, what would it be, and would it make sense to alter mine to meet that design? I definitely could use better grounding. This amp is noisy. I sent you an email asking where you are located - your website doesn't say. Wild guess: Chicago?

Hey, I know this video is a few years old, but a question: Instead of entirely bypassing the cold clipper, could you have achieved a similar result but switching in a smaller cathode resistor to make that stage more transparent?

Maybe *YOU* can use a #8 Woodscrew. 🤷‍♂ Some of us have a little tiny bit of self-respect, SOME regard for our hardware, and absolutely no need to simulate excretion of toxic waste all over our equipment by using garbage, non-Posidrive hardware and tools. Carry on.

The most comprehensive video I've seen! I am building an extension just like the one you are building. In a band and a Sound Engineer for 66 years (and counting) what you are doing and your method makes sense. I believe in soldering as much as possible. It helps when you actually know how to solder, (my brother told me soldering is similar to welding, heat up the thicker material first). As a guitar player, I am all about Tubes and Point to Point wired amps! It saves money when you get vintage (pre-circuit board) amps and a good friend who repairs and custom built my Point to Point wired "Head". Actually he uses me for my "ears.'" It is a modified Fender Champ circuit. I usually play with a sound system, so loud enough to be my monitor. I subscribed and will be watching your videos!

Absolutely. They are magnificent guitars. I recently got a lacquer finish model which is essentially the same guitar as this with different inlay material, aged hardware and nitro instead of poly. The consistency between all of my Tokai's made in the last 15 years is uncanny. I have a lot of Gibsons too but they're all very different from each other. I prefer the out of the box sound of the Tokai though.
