I got my buddy's JCM 800 2210 today. He said he hasn't used it in 10 years because it had a loud hum. I took it apart and it's actually pretty clean inside. The only mod I saw was some dingus took R51 and ran it from RV1 to C35. I'm putting in the new caps because like you said the originals are gone and I'm really considering doing that resonance mod you did; it sounded great man. Wish me luck, you really helped me understand a few things I needed to figure out.
Glad this helped. I've seen the insides of quite a few of these and the heater wiring layout is done poorly on these models. On a higher gain amp like this it can definitely lead to loud hum. I would start with the caps for sure. I have a spare set of tubes I swap out to rule out problems there. I've seen excess hum from bad power tubes before. If the hum persists, reinstall the original tubes and keep troubleshooting. I am going to install a hum balance control on the next 2210 I work on to see if that helps out. Rewiring the heaters takes a lot of extra time but it is worth it if it's yours. A lot of clients don't want to pay for that time. I have two waiting in line to be worked on now. Good luck.
You know, I work similar to you. If I'm working on a guitar, if I see something wrong I will take care of it. Why would anyone give you a hard time for doing the right, and correct thing just is astonishing!!
It's great to see the 2210 getting some love. I've owned mine since about 96-97. Like any tube amp, the harder you push it, the better it sounds and this thing of mine is ungodly loud and sounds awesome. I used to get a lot of dirty looks on stage from the other guys because I had to crank it to get the right sound and it would drowned them out. In the JCM-800 line the 2203 and 2204 get the lions share of the attention (arguably, deservedly so) and I hope to grab one some day but my 2210 has never let me down.
I had a 2205 back in the day. It was my first tube amp. It sure is complicated and looks like total chaos inside! I sold mine because it gad some sound problems that were in the original design. They made better ones in 88 and 89 I've heard.
@@CaptainAhab-im3kd Mine is a 89' model. I'm not a tech but the later models have more gain. what the actual, physical differences are, I couldn't tell you.
Always a pleasure watching your work. You take a lot of pride in your craft! And nice, clean work as well. You definitely know your shit! Please keep the vids coming!
It seemed that at the halfway point the resonance control added a lot of clarity to the midrange for some reason. I didn't expect that at all. Maybe it moves the upper bass frequencies down a bit? It sounded a lot better that way. With it all the up, it just seemed to boost everything from how it sounded all the down, but still better than stock. I have an '89 2210 and it's a very touchy amp as far as setting up the EQ goes. The amp easily becomes congested sounding if you're not careful and I usually have the tone controls set pretty low, like all under 5. The resonance control modification seems to loosen up the congestion.
Great video, excellent work. I'm dyinggggg to add a resonance control to my bugera 5150II clone. It already has a presence control so that should make it easier, right?
A resonance or depth control can be added to any tube amp circuit. It’s only a matter of adding a 1M potentiometer and capacitor of your choice in between an NFB wire that’s going to a tap on the OT secondaries. Not all amp circuits utilize NFB in the same way but they can all be easily modified. I can’t speak to the specifics of that amp as I haven’t seen it but I would imagine you could find the schematic of a 5150 and implement the added control in the same manner they do.
Saw you in Pontiac Michigan last night , brutal as fuck brother , brought my 20 yrs old daughter , her and her friend was front row the whole show 🤘🏼 HAIL PUSTULUS MAXIMUS
I tryed a resonance mod 4.7uf/220k and boosted a lot of mids. I hear the same in your mod... somehow it doesn't work as suposed.... i did not try changig output tap for the NF.
Have a Mesa Trem-o-verb combo I need a cap health check on for cap life...no issue just doesn't sound like it should...have done power tubes ....do you take on work from sources like UA-cam?
I wish one day I'm rich enough to be able to afford a JCM800 (2205 or 2210) or a Silver Jubilee. In the meantime I'll keep rocking my Valvestate 8100 and the Jet City Custom 22 I got last month.
I'm not sure it's a simple yes or no answer here. The question could be reversed to "Do I like tube distortion?" and the answer can be yes, but there are a lot of terrible sounding tube amp circuits. When applied in a great sounding circuit, diode clipping distortion can sound very good. It's all about the design of the circuit.
Hey man I was wandering if you heard of those bluguitar amp 1- amp pedals?. They have a Russian nanotube in the power section. I bought one and it's pretty legit. Be cool to see what you think of them.
Semmed like the reso added highs/mids as well as lows. Opened the sound up a lot. Great channel. Love your stuff.
Resonance control at halfway sounded great
Yeah, I totally agree.

Glad to see you have an appreciation for tidy work.. and that resonance adds depth like no bodies business.. great vid..!!

That resonance control does add some serious balls to the amp.
That killed by death cover was brutal

Ive never hear an 800 sound that good without a boost or gain mod. Wow.
Damn bro. You a damn scientist. Nice licks BTW 👊🏼
Great video man - incredibly useful on many levels- thank you
Finally, a new vid! Kickass! 🤘🏻
Really cool video
I think the resonance knob was definitely a good add
Great channel , new sub here from Quebec , will have my tech install a resonance control on mine, can't wait !
I used the DI output to feed a Boss tuner that was on top of the amp! Sadly no other amps with such a convenience.😉
First! Hail GWAR! 🤘👹
I enjoyed every minute!
Your videos are chill and informative.
Great job, amp sounds killer! 🤘
Damn man, that sounds freakin bad ass. You do some excellent work....give the guitologist a run for his money!..lol
It sounds killer 🤘🤘
Awesome job. Thanks for posting.
Really enjoy these videos. 🤙

I'd like to add a resonance control to my Marshall JCM 800 4104. Any good link you can suggest?
What is the music at 7:30???
Your badass. Thanks alot for your time. 🤘🤘
I love the number 2 pencil lol idk the last time i seen one😂😂
Where can I find y’all doing heading out to the highway. Sounded killer!
Great job! I'm looking to add a resonance control to my Mesa TC-50. Does the .0047 have to be rated at a certain voltage? Thanks

@@pedrolourenco2707 the capacitor is too large. Try 0.0047uF

16:43 You mentioned replacing the 4.7k pot with a 1M pot - replaced the presence with the resonance???
The presence control is in tact and untouched
Just curious where in the US you are. I’ve got some amps I’d like checked out just wondering how far you are.
Dizze persoan wit wol hoe it moat. EL34 en yn de eindtrap?
Nice video 🙃
But the demo is a little bit short, more playing please 😉
Greetings from Deutschland
Are there any other 2210 mods you can do? Besides the Resonance control.
Awesome! I have a 1989 2210,how do I contact you to have you do this to mine.
Thanks so much.

Do you like the sound of the clipping diodes?

will "america must be destroyed " every get remastered ? my favorite album j.s. love the content.

I know you weren't there at the time, but was "Scumdogs" a 2210? It looks like they're using 2210's in "Live From Antarctica".
Amazing tones as always, but what pickup is in that guitar tho?
DiMarzio P90 sized Super Distortion.
Amazing!
Is there a re-up of this without the “BGM”? It’s like trying to read an interesting book while two toddlers argue right in front of you.
Don't add background music please.
Looks like a lot of unnecessary work being performed. IMHO Just so the customer is happy and has the money to pay for it is what matters though.
