Love the episode! Those CapitalOne shopping cashbacks do get crazy sometimes. We love cashing them out for Barnes and Noble gift cards to buy books for the kids. Also, an important note about the Venture X business card - authorized users don't get priority pass like the personal one. So for our family of 5, both my wife and I have our own Venture X business cards and we each bring in additional guests.
Great job! I always love your videos.
We're glad you like our videos! Thank you for watching!
Good show
Thank you for watching! ❤️
We don’t own a CapitalOne card in our household but it is on our radar for next year’s CC strategy. Excellent episode detailing out the CapitalOne program and its products. My family and I traveled to Vietnam earlier this year (DaNang) and absolutely loved it; we may go back in the next two years. Flew there on China Airlines (economy); was an ok flight experience. Chase and 5/24 is ridiculously overrated (sorry didn’t want to bring up Chase on a CapitalOne episode)…lmao
😂 Some of us agree...ridiculously overrated! We're so happy you enjoyed DaNang! We have very limited time so only spending a day in Saigon then heading over to Siem Reap. The rest of our itinerary is in flux!
Serena, you should book that Hello Kitty flight! I actually transferred some Cap 1 Miles to Eva for Hello Kitty next year 😂 Monkey said she would be so happy to go on a Hello Kitty flight. I didn’t do the longest one though and hoping no changes next change. But I think it’ll be worth it ❤ Also, can’t wait to hear more on you guys Southeast Asia trip! Sounds so fun.
Thank you for the encouragement! I'm planning on it. EVA is such a long multi-step process to set up for a family that it's taking me forever. I'm not telling my little one about the flight just in case they change the schedule. For now, I'll keep it a surprise. 😉 She will be so thrilled. I just hope she still loves Hello Kitty by then. 😅
Capital One lounge is better then Centurion? What are you talking about? Have ever been to those 2 lounges in Denver? Centurion has way better options of food and drinks
Interesting! Yes we have been to both. Food and drink preference is very subjective so we know some people will prefer the DEN Centurion lounge.
@@LetsGetToThePoints You guys must be confusing with different airports. In DEN airport Centurion lounge has several courses of meal, 2 bars with wide selection of drinks while CapOne has only one bar with not so wide selection and food selection reminds me a snack bar.
Nicole was the reason why I decided to apply for the Venture X for my second card. I was hesitant with the large AF, but I don’t regret it all! I am so glad I got it when I did!
We’re so glad you don’t regret it! Well done!
New subbie here. I’m so happy I found you guys🎉 Am I able to upgrade my Chase Freedom Flex to a Sapphire Reserved?
Hi! We’re glad you found us too!!! You can upgrade to a Sapphire if you meet their income requirements. Sapphire cards typically have higher credit limits. Before doing that, first try to get the bonus on the card. You’re eligible if you haven’t had a Sapphire bonus in the last 48 months.
@@LetsGetToThePoints Thank you for responding. My goal is to spend the new year in SE Asia and Mexico, so I’m working backwards to figure out what will work for me. I told all my travel nurse colleagues about y’all 🩺
I believe you can transfer your Avios to Finnair as well! Great stuff guys
Yes you can! Thank you for pointing that out!
Why no love for the VentureOne? It has no AF, and it has access to the C1 transfer partners. Plus, you can convert Savor cash to VentureOne miles. It is a good option if you don't want to play the "Effective" AF game. Supplement it with the no AF US Bank Altitude Connect card for PP lounge access.
Thumbs up, How come they took 2 lounge passes from Venture Card? It help offset AF and I have it for catch all card, and next year I will have to pay to enter CP1 lounge so how does it code as restaurant or travel related? Was thinking if I could use purchase eraser on lounge access charge...
This is a great question! We haven’t heard how the lounge codes as of yet. If you visit frequently enough, you may want to think about the Venture X card.
Nice show!! Between Capital One Venture X and Amex Blue business plus, which one do you recommend if no foreign transaction fee? I have both and am trying to figure out what to do. I have been using Amex just because I want Alaska points. After the merger completes when Amex MR points won't transfer to Hawaiian/Alaska, which card do you recommend between these two?
The Amex BBP has a foreign transaction fee so only use that one in the US. It depends on what points you want to accumulate more of. But for travel purchases, definitely the Venture X for the embedded travel protection.
Purchase eraser can be used till 180 days. But needs to call cc if it's older than 90days
Great tip! Thank you for sharing!
I will say Aviancas change/cancel fees are HIGH so make sure those are some solid plans!
Great point! We need to keep that in mind. We don’t like high cancel/change fees.
Is that a High on a Hog wine bottle, Nicole? How was it?😂
Alex!!! Thanks to you, we have an episode coming out next week about that bottle. Spoiler: it was yummy!
@ love spending my Friday mornings watching your podcast on UA-cam! Learning something new each week! You guys are the best! 🩵
I don’t use the preferred insurance by the airline/cruise. Best to go outside and either work with a travel agent or aggregator for best prices.
We prefer 3rd party insurance providers as well!
Wells Fargo does have 1 to 2 to Choice hotels
Great point! We always forget about Wells Fargo.
Love love love my Venture X! I got to fly Singapore and Cathay thanks to it. I do wish Capital had more consistent and generous transfer bonuses like AMEX, which is why I prefer using my AMEX Blue Business as my main catch all! But definitely still a keeper card tho overall 😊 Which card do you prefer as your catch all and why - Venture X or Blue Business? PS: I must go to the next west coast meet up since I can’t make the LA one! Haha
Hi RJ. We will miss you in LA! The Venture X is our go to over the BBP for the travel insurance and no foreign transaction fee.
You was supposed to rent 4*4 car for $50 to $80 a day, and you can do this at the airport or even before you get to the mountain there are many rental locations where you can rent a car for $80 easily but it has to be cash, anyway if you guys travel there solely I highly suggest to just left your hand up at the border and 99% of the Omani people will get you up for free and in fact that they do this every day to the construction worker for free so i guess 100% for free then the tourist!
The Omani people are so nice and generous! Are you from there? Serena wanted to have that rental car coverage on her Capital One Venture C card too. It’s very hard to convince credit card people to go cash only.
@ No, I’m not from there, but I’m an Arab American who born and growing up in the USA and the first time I went to Oman and Dubai few months ago and my experiences were all top notch specially with the Omani people
If u dont have a cap1 lounge, i would almost prefer getting 95$ venture or free spark miles 1.5x rather than X.
Those are great choices if you don’t value the lounge benefit or added travel protection.
I heard that VA recently dropped some awesome saver deals. Since Miguel and Nicole recently lamented that they had a lot of miles “stuck” with Virgin, would love to hear if/what they booked.
Stay tuned!!!
@Nicole, my young adult just got the C1S1 student card this year (first cc in her name). I tried the pre-approval and while she didn’t qualify for the “regular” C1S1, she was approved for the student version, which has a smaller bonus and spending requirement.
Congrats to your young adult on her Savor card!!! We’re big fans of that card. The student version seems to have all the same benefits so that’s a win!
@@LetsGetToThePoints thanks! Will she need her own Venture card to transfer points out or is it possible to do that with an AU card? How long should she wait before applying for her own Venture card? Keep in mind income is minimal and rent is zero.
You’re going to Vietnam? I’m so jealous! I hope you picked the right time of year to go because Saigon can be very hot and humid. Are you visiting other cities while you’re there (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hanoi, Sapa)? Would love to hear more about it.
We have to work around Nicole’s school/travel schedule…so you know how that goes. 🤣
@ I know exactly how that goes given that I’ve got a kid in school. I would have picked Dec/winter break to go instead of summer. Would hate for you to have a bad first impression of the country but I’m told you don’t want to go to SGN after Mar/April so summer will be miserable. Serena is absolutely going to melt. 🥵 She’ll have to find a Park Hyatt-quality hotel and never leave the premises (JK) 😂
We both have the Venture X. Luckily mine was an upgrade from the Venture and my husband was able to get it through applying.
My husband is my authorize user for venture X. I’m thinking of applying Venture X card for him so we each have one. Do we need to cancel his authorized card first before applying or leave it as is?
Leave as is
Hello! No need to cancel. Okay to leave as is.
I’m more in Nicole‘s camp, oh by the way, I have a trip planned… I can only do one at a time or it’ll be massive overload and that would be good 😂
🤣🤣🤣Avoid massive overload at all costs!!!
Happy 🎉friYAY!!! Nicole, I ♥️ your shirt! Congratulations!!!! My best use of Capital One Miles is the $300 Travel Credit - gifting to my family for 3N in Hongkong to visit Disneyland this winter 🙌🏼
Hi Rhea! Happy FriYAY! Serena will also be at HK DL this winter! Send her your dates and maybe they overlap.
No! You need to have a meet up on the East Coast!! 🤦🏽♀️
We will one day. We will!!!
You guys helped me out. Mitch mentioned Singapore airlines from Newark NJ. I thought they were only in JFK. I looked and found two saver seats in July to Bangkok. Also it took me over a month to add my son to my EVA account. Their online paperwork gets rejected as outdated lol.
🤣EVA is such a pain. But hopefully worth it. Congrats on your BKK booking! 🎉🎉🎉
I went from the lower tier Capital one to the venture x for the free priority pass membership and the $300 credit. I am thinking of getting the business account. we’ll see. I love vietnam and I will be there next Spring for a month
You have such a great life, GG! A month in Vietnam, a few months in Mexico City. We’re going to look for the pistachio mezcal tomorrow!
Did the son use the venture x specific pre approval or the general capital one pre approval?
Hi! The general pre-approval tool.
Re-watching again this episode… after 5 weeks of calls plus mailing a letter/documents to Barclays, Approved 🙌🏼 Thanks for the referral code from the LGTTP newsletter. 🎉 Oh em gee, Don’t even remember where are we planning to use these miles… this HI miles tastes so sweet now… 🧋🧋🧋lol
Congrats on your new card, Rhea! Wow, talk about 5 weeks of perseverance! Great job sticking it out with them. We can't wait to see what you do with these miles! 🧋🧋🧋
PH Zanzibar 😍
Oooohhh. That looks like a good one! Have you been?
Yes, we were there early this month after our Serengeti safari. Beautiful room with the view of the Indian ocean, the breakfast was so good and the staff was great!
I just watched this twice before pressing the booking button for the non-refundable flight ticket. Mexico City for Día de los Muertos sounds like an incredible experience. I can’t wait to be there.
We hope you booked it! CDMX is an incredible destination!
Andazzzz!! One of my favs. Stayed at San Diego and Delhi. Amazing upgrade and breakfast in Delhi for globalist.
Thank you for sharing! We need to check out the Andaz in Delhi! 🎉🎉🎉
With so many cards that have large sign on bonuses, but have an annual fee, how would it work in order to keep a large amount of cards? Would you close the cards and open new ones and transfer the points before hand? Is there a certain amount of cards you recommend to have throughout the year?
We evaluate each one when a new annual fee is due. Everyone’s number will be different based on needs and tolerance for fees. We keep a number of cards because we travel a lot but someone who doesn’t travel as much might only want 1 or 2 travel cards.
@ if I use the same technique of opening cards for large bounces, how many time a year would you recommend? With a P2 operation
We recommend opening cards based on spend. Get one card, spend on it, and when you get close to finishing the minimum spend, start thinking about your next card.
@ thank you !
Great costumes guys! Quick question - with regards to credit card travel insurance, given that you guys do a lot of reward flights, do you buy insurance for those rewards flight? Or is there a way to get credit card insurance benefits on the points trips as well. Thanks
Most premium travel reward credit cards have embedded trip interruption/delay/baggage insurance to cover award flights. A recent development with Chase is trip cancellation will likely not be covered. Look at the benefits guide for your card for specific info and buy supplemental insurance for added protection. Thank you for watching!
This team is so fun! Love the costumes and how much effort you put into this channel. BTW - we used your link for a Hawaiian card for P2. Thanks!
Congrats on P2’s new card! Thanks for watching!
This episode was so entertaining and kept me laughing the whole time. Y'all make this hobby so much more fun and easier to understand! I'll just be returning from an international trip right before your LA Saturday meet-up but as soon as you announce your next meet-up, I'm putting it on my calendar. Thanks for the laughs while sharing such invaluable information!
Thank you so much for this wonderful comment. It really gives us warm fuzzies to know we make it more fun for you and the rest of our audience. Thank you for taking the time to let us know. We will miss you this time around but we look forward to meeting you at the next one! Enjoy your trip!
Just FYI if you want to fly Starlux for less miles then Taipei to Tokyo, Osaka & Hanoi is only 15k in Biz Class, 10k PE and 7.5k Economy.
15k Alaska miles intra Asia is such a great deal, especially for Starlux!
Thumbs up, Hilton for me...
Nice choice!!! 🏨
Thumbs up 👍, Amex Platinum and Cap1 Venture stay in my wallet
Great cards you got there!
Thumbs up 👍, My question would be what is the highest $ are you willing to pay to keep Amex Platinum Card
Thank you for watching! Do you mean highest $ for annual fee?
@@LetsGetToThePoints yes annual fee
Well the current fee is $695 and everyone should evaluate whether the perks and benefits outweigh that cost. But if they raise it, we would need to evaluate it again at that time. It’s already quite high. We’re not sure we can stomach a much higher annual fee.
Thumbs up 👍, I at least use my CC every other month, would be hard for me to apply for a card and then stop using it after sub unless it didn't have AF
Thanks for sharing! It’s always good to keep using your cards. The banks like that!
Mitch … I can’t watch you. You look too funny😂
He really does look ridiculous! 🤣🤣🤣
Transferred my Amex points to Alaskan miles and booked starlux right away. Also, just got approved for the Hawaiian airline credit card! How exciting!!
Congrats on your new card. How exciting indeed!!! 🎉🎉🎉 🧋🧋🧋
Ya'll look great. We are hosting a Halloween party this evening as well so we will be dressed up shortly. I was on my morning run listening to another pod where it was mentioned that the CSR is no longer covering award trip bookings where they will only reimburse the cash value (taxes and fees) but not the points/miles utilized. Is this something ya'll are hearing as well? If so, I am considering downgrading as I only hold the CSR to cover my award travel bookings. When I pay cash for flights I usually utilize the Amex Platinum for round trip fares so I feel protected there. Nonetheless, I did pay for insurance on my award travel to Singapore due to the conection ground time (only 70 minutes in Seoul). Phenomenal show as always.
We are hearing that. It's only for the trip cancellation coverage. Trip interruption/delay should still be covered. So if that's important, getting additional coverage would help. What are your costumes? We hope you have a great party!
I have a Chase Ink Cash card with a business that I am about to close - do you have any recommendations on how to proceed? Would it be better to transfer the Ultimate Rewards points to my Sapphire Preferred card, close the current Chase Ink Cash card, and reapply for it using my SSN? How do you recommend reaching the minimum speed requirement for the Chase Ink card if I don’t have any upcoming spend but I do pay rent?
Definitely transfer your points to your Sapphire card before closing any cards. But also, there is no harm in keeping the card open since there is no annual fee. We wouldn't recommend open the card again unless you have a way to meet minimum spend. Some ideas are estimated federal income taxes and property taxes.
Great show guys!! 🎉 loved all the costumes. When the bank shut down your accounts, does that mean that the confiscate all your money ? Also, Nicole and Miguel mentioned that they did an 🎉upgrade from preferred to sapphire. Doesn’t that make them not eligible for the signing bonus?
Thank you for watching!!! Bank shutdowns usually mean they close your accounts but they do not confiscate your money. If these are checking and savings accounts, you usually have some time to move the money to a different bank or withdraw. You are only able to receive a Sapphire bonus if you haven't received one in the last 48 months. When within this time period and you want the Reserve, an option is to upgrade.
Great episode! Thanks for the reminder again about the supplemental insurance for medical part. I signed up for a year but it ended so I need to rebuy too. Also, grand Hyatt Taipei is ok! Nothing happened for us. 🤗
Thank you for watching and we're glad we encouraged you to think about your supplemental insurance! You got lucky with no ghosts!!! 👻
