This is great to know about the weather in Bali! Mitch is likely not going to Bali anytime soon. So we need a different location! Let us know if you have any suggestions!
Going to Kyoto in two months and will be staying at their new Hilton property. Y’all can miss me with anything Hyatt…lol Chase Sapphire Reserve over Capital One for now… Buy points when there is a sale. Just did this recently for a stay at the Conrad Tokyo including the 5th night free and got tremendous value. Lastly, I would pick a luxury hotel any day of the week and twice on Sunday over a luxury flight. Great episode!
1- I would get the best neck braces, as much sleep before the flight, and not drink too much, and take the middle seat. I am not going to be any good once I land, but I would be in heavy at the hotel. 2-I would definitely buy the points from Hilton. 3- I have to go with the CSR, because I am shut out of CAP1. However, I have gotten pretty good at the difficult task of maximizing the doordash credits from the CSR. 4-I hate the fact that the Hyatt Business doesn't have a free night, but since it won't affect my 5/24, I'll get it for the bonus. 5-I would do Central American or Asia. 6-I would go with the Chase/Citi combo,,,,,,but I would really miss AMEX Platinum/Gold card MR points machine. The fact that I am allowed to have as many cards as with Chase or Citi helps, as long as I maintain the 24 to 48 months rotation on their best cards.
Great show guys! Question, do your P2's also have the venture X? I just got my p2 one and was considering closing it after a year but I just found out that the $300 travel credit doesn't expire year to year and can be stacked. So that makes me lean towards keeping it
Some of our P2’s have it as well. In our experience, the $300 travel credit does expire. Let us know if you see otherwise. If you have the credit from multiple cards (Venture X + Venture X Biz) under the same name, that can be stacked.
Hi Bizu. We think this will depend on whether you will visit more Sapphire lounges or Capital One lounges. The Venture X is more headache-free with 2x on everything. If you have lots of dining and travel spend, the 3x with CSR makes more sense.
Miguel you mentioned a player three. I also have a player three college student. I am still supporting. Are there any additional things I should be doing because I have a player three? I also have the capital one venture X because I have four people who travel differently than I do and it works beautifully.
Here's what I did: I added her as authorized user to multiple cards when she was younger but didn't give her the physical cards, this was to build her credit history. Had P3 apply for Discover it student card when she turned 18 and the SavorOne card a year later. Both of these have no annual fee so she can keep them forever and have long credit history as primary accountholder. She also recently got the AA Aviator card since she'll be flying AA frequently and checking bags, the 70K offer for ANY purchase was a great offer. If P3 moves out and has to pay rent, the Bilt card might be worthwhile.
I had picked the CSR over C1VX because the $300 credit is automatic plus the restaurants and insurance made it worth it. Also read that you don’t earn points (with airline or hotel) or can’t apply your status when booking through C1 portal (is this true?). Now that restaurant credit is gone and I hear insurance coverage is being reduced, I’m wondering if the CSR is still worth it? I’m considering downgrading to CSP and upgrading my Marriott Boundless to Ritz for priority pass. Does the Ritz card give me access to the Sapphire lounge? I don’t see people talking about this card much. Would love to get your advice with pros/cons. Thanks for another fun episode!
For hotels, you will not get loyal status honored when booking through any third party. It's different for flights as you can attach your loyalty number to your reservation. It remains to be seen how the travel insurance aspect for Sapphire will change. They changed the benefits administrator and underwriter but this is not necessarily a downgrade. It depends on how future claims are processed. We'll have to wait for more data points. The Ritz will not give you access to Sapphire lounges unless the Sapphire lounges accept Priority Pass.
I do both business and leisure/personal travel. Business takes me to various cities throughout the country but I have to book through a travel app that limits my options on hotels and flights. We try to do one nice family trip each year (self-funded). Just learning about CC miles and points this year (total rookie) so would love to plan some nicer trips overseas. Europe and Asia are at the top of our bucket list. That’s a bummer on the Ritz card. Was hoping this might be the solution for me.
Welcome to this wonderful hobby! We hope we’ve been able to add value as you learn. You are lucky to be able to accumulate some points and miles while you travel for work too!
Don't think I'd spend the extra points for Singapore room for only a 6 hour flight. Honestly 6 hour is barely long enough to warrant any first class award over a business seat.
Wpuld you rather Qsuites SFO-Doh-Bkk and then Thai business and United Business back to SFO OR ANA the room SFO to Tokyo and Japan airlines Tokyo to SFO. Basically Qsuites and Thailand or The Room and Japan? 14 nights to explore each. Lol. I wish I would have got this in before your episode. 😂
To Consider: For Option 2, instead of JAL TYO to SFO, if you can get the new business class seat on JAL HND - DFW/JFK, then definitely do The Room and the new JAL Biz. Otherwise, follow up question: Have you flown Qsuite or The Room before? And how long is your layover in DOH?
If we have to choose based on destination, Japan always. Otherwise, we think you need to experience the best business class in the world (according to Skytrax)…QSuite!

Asia for sure! Bali’s weather is actually NOT humid and hot in July. It was amazing. Would be fun seeing you guys go to Asia together, hehe.

I have been to SE Asia, and loved the food and the people. I would live on the African continent and only travel between Joburg and Capetown.
That would be an amazing experience!!!

It’s a no brainer for me. I can do Asia with $100/day budget and can live high on the hog. 😅
We agree!!! High on the hog in Asia!!!
CSR vs C1VX if you’re just a P1 and that’s it? Venture X it is

I agree. Get the Venture X and just get a Sapphire Perferred. The Venture X will give ypu one Chase Lounge visit a year too!

BTW - I know you’re not big fans of Marriott but there aren’t many Hyatt options in the places that I travel to. 😔
The smaller Hyatt footprint hurts sometimes. Where do you like to travel to?

Where did Mitch go tto southeast Asia?
Mitch has been all over SE Asia and he spends the most time in Thailand.
Don't think I'd spend the extra points for Singapore room for only a 6 hour flight. Honestly 6 hour is barely long enough to warrant any first class award over a business seat.
It is a very short flight. But one of the most reasonable routes to experience the Suites using points. The other routes are 200k+!
Yes. Just pretend you are camping. Then who cares about spiders in room.
😬 Mind over matter. 🕷️

Great choice!!’
You can't have the CSP and CSR together. It's either one or the other
Correct. This is why we said we would choose the Venture X and then have the Sapphire Preferred for the ability to transfer to partners.

You can get both by product changing.
Or what was previously known at the modified double dip. That may have died.
