Wow, love the beginning few minutes with the breaking news. You guys are hilarious and SO CREATIVE! Really enjoyed the 3 credit cards. I haven’t decided on my 3rd but my 1st and 2nd would be CSP and Cap Venture X Business version (hubby has the original one so still have restaurant priority pass access). Most likely my 3rd is the Amex Plat, also for the helicopter ride.
My choices in order of importance/preference to me: 1) Amex Gold - Dining and groceries can’t be beat 2) Hilton Aspire - Hilton loyalist so this is a no brainer and credits are easily used 3) Chase Sapphire Reserve - 3X on travel plus $300 travel credit is very powerful (due for a refresh though) $1,425 total in annual fees… Citi Strata Premier is an honorable mention as that card has a spot in my wallet… Just booked Conrad Tokyo and also bought points with Hilton’s 100% match bonus. Staying (4) nights on points with the fifth night free… Awesome episode
Nice 3-card setup! We are so fortunate to have lots of options and thankfully are not limited to 3 cards if we don’t want to! Your Tokyo trip looks like it’s going to be a great one with that Conrad booking! Hilton’s 5th free night makes it so much sweeter!
Love all of this exercise! Let me see if i can swing by for this meetup this time! Love the differences in opinions on the challenge. I think I’d go with Serena with this challenge. The venture x is skate my favorite as well
New subsriber here. Found you on Spotify. Great information. I currently have the venture X. Definitely a must have. Of course i don't like it talked about it so much because i don't want the lounges to be crowded like centurion lounges 😂😂
Great episode! I'm fairly new to the credit card game. Based on this conversation, I think I'm moving the Capital One Venture X up my list. I'm thinking my top three would align with Mitch's picks. Thanks crew!
going all the way back to the episode with chews.. the hilton aspire is such a clutch card to have when taking into account all the useful credits and the automatic top tier status
@@LetsGetToThePoints Katara Hills Doha, LXR Hotels & Resorts was my best hotel experience ever! I used my Hilton free night there last year in November, fairly new property, got upgraded to a 3600sqft, 2 bedrooms villa with private pool. What makes it even sweeter is that I flew Qatar first class from Doha to Hong Kong using 75k Avios, and enjoyed the Al Safwa First Lounge for 12 hours, I had 3 lobster tails and took a 6 hour nap in the nap room 😊
Outstanding redemption with Katara Hills! If we had more time in Doha after our Quad trip, we would have stayed there. Also Miguel failed to mention to us about the lobster tails in Al Safwa. Serena will be there later this year and she will need to report back.
Miguel, could you put a link to the video where you talk about prespending on the Hilton Aspire card for the Hilton Resort credit? Great info on the video!
Thanks for another great episode. Instead of limiting to just three cards, I’m interested in which cards you deem to be valuable to keep year after year despite the annual fee. I know your card count is likely in the teens and 20s but I assume you rotate some out. So what are the absolute *keepers*? I’m sure it’s more than three 😉
My personal choice would be 1. Citi premier for 3x food AND 2 years extended warranty 2. VX for Costco, phone service protection and lounge assess for whole family and 3. Bilt on rent, other travel and Hyatt I helped my family booked a last minute flight from New York City to buffalo: cash price was 385/person in economy. Found availability on Alaska and there is only no economy but first was 9k + $18. Bought the points at 60% bonus and they ended up costing $25 than buying economy tickets. We thought we didn’t care about sitting in premium class as the flight is only an hr long and the passengers are short and skinny. But they ended up loving the upgrade: they woke up late (they have no GE and priority security check saved them an hr or so), and they get to run off early (crucial as the flight delayed and they need to run to a meeting within half an hr)
Great reminder about the 2 years extended warranty. That can be very helpful. Congratulations on that great redemption for your family! This is a great example of when buying points makes sense.
Mine would be: Amex Platinum - $695 (Centurion Lounge and credits, i.e.; Uber, FHR, Airline, plus Hilton and Marriott status) - Basically FREE Venture X - $395 (Capital One Lounges and 10k points) Basically FREE U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve - $400 (PP Restaurants, $325 easy to use credit and 3x on mobile wallet) Basically $75 Total Annual Fee: $1,490 minus the credit would be $75 or less depending on what credit benefits you. Thank you guys, enjoyed another episode. See you next Friday!!! P.S. Another bad date for me on the meet-up, but will do everything in my power to make it (crossing fingers).
We hope we can eventually meet you one day! Great choices on your cards. We like how you break down your reasons for having each and the benefits that offset the annual fee!
For my three cards, I would pick the following cards and for the reasons provided. Amex Hilton Surpass mostly for $15k spending on grocery, gas, and online shopping (with purchase protections) to earn a free night award and ~90k points Wells Fargo Bilt mostly for dining and cellphone bill (with cellphone protection and primary CDW) Chase World of Hyatt mostly for $15k of non-category spending to earn a free night award at a Category 4 Hyatt after anniversary, a second free night award at a Category 4 Hyatt after $15k of spending, and 15k points from $15k spending for an entirety paid with points night at a Category 4 Hyatt
Great Show! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that SOMEONE in my household get approved for that CVX. They're inquiry sensitive soooooo I'm hope upon hoping
My top 3 cards are the AMEX Gold bc food is our top spending category, the CSP bc of the travel protections & being able to transfer to Hyatt, and BILT bc I pay NYC rent 😊
Currently I have CSP, Amex Gold , and Delta Skymiles Gold. I think after my first year changing the Skymiles to platinum for the companion certificate, free TSA and 3x hotel use the Amex for 3x flights and Chase for any Hyatt stays with points and rental cars. Any advice from an anyone would be helpful. Should I do two ecosystems because I like both Hyatt and Hilton?
Delta Platinum makes sense if you are loyal to Delta. You are covered with Hyatt (Chase card) and Hilton (Amex card). If you want free breakfast internationally at Hilton properties, you might want to consider having Gold status via the Amex Platinum/Hilton Surpass cards or Diamond status via Hilton Aspire. One thing you can check for is to see if you have an upgrade offer from the Amex Gold to Platinum. Sometimes these upgrade offers can be rewarding and worth paying the higher annual fee. This would also give you TSA/Global Entry and 5x on flight purchases.
Another great episode!! You guys are rockin' it! Perfect timing for me because I'm considering letting go of my amex gold. Because I live outside the US I'm not getting the bonus grocery points, there's no Uber and the other stuff is useless to me. Outside of groceries & dining out, I pretty much pay cash for everything else. I have the Chase Marriott Bonvoy and the Chase Sapphire Preferred. I'm at 4/24 with Chase and looking for one more Chase card. I'm considering the Chase Aeroplan card because I have gotten two great business class award redemptions and could use the SUB. What do you think? Question: is there any benefit to me downgrading to the amex green? I won't get a sign-up bonus and I already have the Venture X and Chase Sapphire Preferred?
Hi Phyllis! Downgrading to an Amex Green would make sense if you need to keep your Amex points alive with a lower annual fee. Otherwise, open an Amex Blue Biz Plus with no annual fee and you will still have the ability to transfer Amex pts to partners. For your Chase Aeroplan question, this card has some benefits but we think you’re better off getting a card with a flexible currency that can transfer to a multitude of partners rather than narrowing your options to only Aeroplan. Perhaps the Chase Ink Business Preferred would be a good option as it will not contribute to your 5/24 count and has a great bonus right now!
@@LetsGetToThePoints Thanks for offering me some other options, but as a retiree who has no intention of working or starting a side hustle, I enjoy whale watching from my patio too much. 😁 Unfortunately, I would not be able to meet the spend requirement on any of the business card. Are there any other recommendations for another card? Thanks for all the good resources and advice.
Hi Phyllis. We like whale watching too! We must have a meetup in Ecuador! The regular Capital One Venture card (not X) has a nice limited time offer of a $250 credit to be used in the portal. This would work for airfare, hotels, and rental cars. This is in addition to the 75k bonus with $4k spend and a low $95 fee. It’s a great offer for a low annual fee card. And you can still get it even if you have the Venture X!
A meetup in Ecuador would be awesome! I was considering that card, but the fine print mentioned something about not having opened any other venture within 6 months and I've only had my venture x card for 4 months, bummer! I doubt the offer will be around in October, but if it is I'll certainly apply. 👍@@LetsGetToThePoints
Dang, I want capital one venture X card so bad, but they don’t want to approve me, because I have too many inquiries. Even freezing one of the credit bureaus would not help me. Anyone knows any tips and tricks how to get it? Thank you.
#Replay - I had to rewatch this one and take some notes! 😉 Miguel has me considering the Citi Strata Premier. I have my top 2, but my slot 3 is still open. 1. Venture X 2. Sapphire Preferred 3. ?
Good choice! The Citi Strata Premier is a great card if you can get approved. Citi can be tough with approvals. Remember when Serena got denied for this card when she applied LIVE on the show? It has really good category multipliers and travel protection for a low annual fee. You should try for it!
@@LetsGetToThePoints Oh yes, she did apply on the show! I' went back and watched it again. Like Mitch, I was considering the Chase Aeroplan card mainly because of the SUB. I only have one slot open under my Chase 5/25. I'm going to apply for the Citi Strata Premier first, but if I'm denied, I'm going to go for the Aeroplan card. My home airport is in the Star alliance, and I've gotten a couple of good business class transfer redemptions through Aeroplan. Btw...I'm already checking to see if I can make it to the meetup in LA in December. I want to meet the entire LGTTP "Dream Team".

We definitely think the Capital One Venture X is a keeper for everyone!
I like Nicole's combo the best. I like more of the amenities while traveling.
Perks are just way more fun when traveling!
Mine was a mix of 3 of the 4 answers. Venture X, Citi Strata Premier and Chase Ink Preferred.
Fantastic card choices! The Venture X is definitely a card everyone should have.

2. Amex Hilton Aspire
