ZIPLINING in the Panama Rainforest
After having spent a week in Caison serving on mission with the Church of Eleven22 our team had to come to grips with the reality of the fact that we had to leave and return home. The work that we had done, the people we had met, the prayerfulness of the entire trip could not be compared to anything else most of us had experienced before.
That being said, it had been a lot of long days, short nights, heavy lifting, and heavy praying and testimony sharing. It seemed only appropriate that we take an afternoon before our flight back to the United States to go on a little adventure in the rainforest canopy above Boquete.
Half our team had opted to go ziplining together, while the rest of the members of our party either hiked or enjoyed fellowship at a coffee shop in the rainforest. No matter which activity you chose, it seemed like the perfect choice. Panama is a beautiful country with wonderful people in it and being able to connect with them during this trip was so rewarding.
If you know anything about me, or have watched my other videos here, you already know that I chose to go ziplining through the trees. The platforms and lines themselves were very sturdy, built atop imposing trees and nestled into the canopy almost unnoticeably. The rain and weather of the day had wrapped the trees in a shroud of cool mist, but that only added to the beauty of the country as we flew over paradise.

Who is Nick Henderson, and what is NickGoesFar?! Originally from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, I have been traveling the world since I was 3 years old, and have led a fairly uncommon life ever since. Now, I'm a commercial pilot flying in the United States, a full-time nomad and traveler. NickGoesFar was originally "The Roaming Pilot", a travel blog where I would share my adventures, tips on expat life, and photography. As I leapt headfirst into content creation, film making, and wanted to be able to share with more people - a change was needed, and after a few iterations I landed here. I am incredibly grateful that years of hard work allow me to continue doing something I love, seeing the world and immersing myself in it. 😊🎥🌎

Scuba diving on a sunken HOVERCRAFT
Переглядів 18314 днів тому
I’ve been a certified scuba diver for a long time, and one of the first things I did when I moved to Florida was investing in my own gear. I was not happy with how very little I had been diving since getting my rating, and felt as though owning my gear would incentivize going on more dives. I couldn’t have been more wrong, although I wanted to dive more, life had other plans. Flash forward to J...

    • @NickGoesFar
      @NickGoesFar 14 днів тому

      I mean, I suppose you could, though I’m not sure that you would get much benefit from it. The boat rate is the same, and the wrecks were all down below 70’ so unless you’re also freediving down that far, you may feel limited on what you can see.

    I also choose the upper level? Thinking it would be less busy? Any pros or cons on upper or lower

    • @NickGoesFar
      @NickGoesFar 15 днів тому

      They're the same seats - but I would say that the lower level is perhaps more isolated from the rest of the train, so maybe easier to get some shut-eye in? I rode in the upper level, I liked that it was on the same level as everything else, and had better views. The upper level is the "main" level on this route, it connects to the observation car, the dining car, etc. The lower levels are mostly bathrooms and storage.

    • @NickGoesFar
      @NickGoesFar 15 днів тому

      I'll say this - you're tougher than I am. I rode coach for the short trip from Seattle to Spokane after filming this and I couldn't imagine having to spend 46 hours in those seats. As for ordering steak and dessert - it's available to passengers in coach on a space limited basis, as in - if there isn't space you will not be able to order meals. The little cafe shop in the observation car will be your only source for snacks at that point.

    Great video! Looking at doing this route soon, also in a bedroom. Question - understanding that you can go either to Seattle or Portland, which one enables you to stay on the same train that you started on? Traveling with my elderly dad, so the fewer train transitions the better. Thanks!

      Technically either. If you’re going to Seattle you’ll be in one sleeper car, if you’re going to Portland you’ll be in the other. I prefer the Seattle route as the trip through the cascades is more scenic. The diner car goes to Seattle, the observation car goes to Portland.

    Approaching retirement I started watching Amtrak, mostly Empire Builder videos. Based on where I live I soon figured out that getting to the train, getting on & off, getting to my final destination, or back home after trip, is always going to be done in the darkest hours of the night. I wish someone would do a video about getting on & off Amtrak at 3:00 am in the middle of nowhere, with stations & entire small towns locked up tight until normal business hours. No steak, trying to sleep in the daytime, and up in the middle of my night for breakfast or lunch. Not everyone lives in Chicago, Seattle or Portland!

The trip didn't go as planned due to the Armageddon Snow Storm in Chicago and the Midwest which shut down everything that day, but it was still a great adventure, even though the Amtrak segment ended for us in Denver. Long story. Was a great adventure, and Amtrak personnel and Mgmt could not have been more wonderful. Can't control the weather, but the adventure was a great introduction into Amtrak and life traveling the rails. Loved it!!! Looking forward to August. Absolutely! The extra space made for a very comfortable trip! I still want to do a roomette trip one of these days for comparison!

      The added restroom in the Bedroom is a great feature. The Roomette is great for 1, but a little cramped for 2, and no restroom. But the added privacy is great either way, and the food is pretty solid. We are actually going in August because I always wanted to visit Seattle, AND the Tigers are playing in Seattle, so I'm looking forward to seeing a night game. Then we'll fly back after 2 nights in Seattle. Just a weekend gig!!!!

      It’s such a cool and special experience. I actually got to take my mom there earlier this year and she loved it too.

    This is currently the second fastest train the the US. The Amtrak Acela, on the NYC to Boston leg, achieves speeds of 150mph.
