    Great video. However, realise that there is a blind spot on the left of vehicles where they don't see you. This counts for trucks, busses, vans and less for normal cars. The blind spot can extend to 50 meters behind the vehicles. I also do everything with my ebike. I see the same behaviour as you show with other bycyclists. This is just unnecessary playing with your precious life because those vehicles are stronger and can kill you in an instant. It is better to anticipate on others wrong behaviour or mistakes. You live longer and your body remains unharmed. Try to think about what moves a vehicle can make and prepare for the mistakes of others. After a while this kind of anticipative behaviour becomes a second nature and in the end it will bring you safe to your destiny. Remember, that everyone will make mistakes we are all human. Being a little more forgiving for the mistakes of others, will also give you less stress. I only try to give you and other people good advice, so you create more safety. And remember, preventing is better than healing! Keep this in mind at all times! Thank your your interesting videos, I like them very much. They can also add some more insights or truck, bus and car drivers how it looks from the viewpoint of a bycycle. Great job!

    I my experience riding a road bike makes you invisible for other people. I don't know for sure why it is, but a bike where you sit more upright and where you wear no helmet just seems to make people more aware of you (and is therefore safer?). I think it's maybe because people see your face more on a bike where you sit upright and human instinct is to pay attention to other people's faces? And proper infrastructure, what kind of third world country is this video shot in? Who still doesn't have proper separation on the road? You also wouldn't let pedestrians walk on the same road level as cars, would you?

      @ Sir, you appear to lack any awareness of road markings nor of the rules of the road. In the clip you mention I am in a separate lane to the van, I am in the cycle lane, the Van is in the road. The Van should not have entered the cycle lane, this was avoidable and the driver should have slowed and waited for the vehicle ahead of them to clear the road. Secondly, the driver should have given way to any cyclist in the cycle lane, even if the cyclist is approaching from behind. Please educate yourself on rule 140 of the Highway Code, I’ve provided an extract below for your convenience: “Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable. You MUST NOT park in any cycle lane whilst waiting restrictions apply. You should give way to any cyclists in a cycle lane, including when they are approaching from behind you - do not cut across them when you are turning or when you are changing lane (see Rule H3). Be prepared to stop and wait for a safe gap in the flow of cyclists before crossing the cycle lane.”.

      @ I have no interest in deliberately putting myself in danger. The danger you see in my videos is due to other road users not looking, ignoring the rules, and creating danger. You’d grunt and yell too in the heat of the moment if some idiot nearly crushed you! Why do you think I want to get footage? Other that UA-cam I have zero social media, I care nothing for attention. I haven’t posted on UA-cam for ages. The only reason I put these videos up is to show how dangerous the roads can be when other road users don’t pay due care and attention. I hope this helps inexperienced cyclists prepare for the danger on the roads, and hope to educate victim-shamers like you who basically think cyclists are asking for it by daring to use the road! In the clip you mention, I’m cycling in the cycle lane, below the speed limit, minding my own business when a van passes me, then suddenly slows and cuts into my lane in a split second, no indication, nothing. And in the cotton wool between your ears that’s my fault! 🤦🏻‍♂️ You likely think the van driver displayed a textbook manoeuvre! Have a good look at yourself in the mirror and do better in 2025 mate!

      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 22 дні тому

      @@Ella_Karina What, at Christmas you’re taking that away? 🤣 To save you looking like a prat, look at that clip again. There is no cycle lane there on that side of the road. It’s a busy road that goes under Blackfriars Bridge in London. I’ve joined that road from a junction on the left, no cycle lane on the left. There is one on the right hand side but it would be suicide to try and cross 2 lanes of busy traffic, climb over a central reservation, cross 2 more lanes of busy traffic to get to it. I always use lanes where I can but sometimes it’s not practical, or I need to get into the right hand lane as i’m turning right at the junction ahead. It’s not mandatory to use cycle lanes, and there are many good reasons why a cyclist might not always use them, so think on that before chastising a cyclist for using the road.

      @@markwt2680 I certainly don’t think I’m immortal, hence I cycle with my fingers on the brake levers at all times and pay full attention, follow the rules etc. which is why I’m still in on piece after 20 years of cycle commuting through Central London rush hour. Sadly, as a cyclist if you want to be given space, your right of way, you have to fight for it as neither pedestrian or driver want to wait for a cyclist. What you see in my videos is me holding my ground up to a point. Often other roads users test you to force you to stop (cars nudging out of a junction for example, sure you’ll have seen this on your motor bike), however if you hold your ground often they’ll see you are not going to stop and they will begrudgingly give you your right of way. I know my stopping distance however and will never push beyond that, always prepared to stop. You can imagine how busy London rush hour is, so if you constantly give up your right of way every time you’ll never make progress. It’s a balance.

My hope is that people see the worst of what happens on the roads, see it from a cyclists perspective, and perhaps they will pay more attention next time. I’m not hopeful, saw a report yesterday that 50% of young people use their phones whilst driving. Likely a higher percentage use their phones whilst walking and crossing the roads. A government survey a few years back found that 86% of drivers admit to speeding in 20mph zones (most of London is 20mph these days). As 80% of new cars sold are large, 2 tonne+ SUVs (8 x more likely to kill a child in a collision than a standard saloon) with drivers likely speeding and looking at their phones, this is only a bad direction for road safety.

      @@foppo100 No, my speed is not the cause of these issues. I’m cycling below the speed limits, and paying full attention, this is why my videos are full of misses and not accidents. I’m travelling at a safe speed allowing me to stop for/avoid all of these incidents. The cause of these issues are pedestrians/drivers who have not paid attention before stepping/pulling out into the road/changing lanes etc. I see many commenters on here, deflecting from the real issue and trying to victim shame cyclists. Cyclists are far slower, and far less dangerous than motor vehicles. Motor vehicles kill 450-500 pedestrians annually in the UK, cyclists less than one pedestrian per year on average. A recent UK government study showed that 86% of drivers admit to speeding in 20mph zones. As 80% of new cars sold these days are 2 tonne+ SUV’s which are 8 times more likely to kill a child in an accident vs. a typical saloon, the fact that so many are speeding is more worrying. Today, pretty much all the roads in Central London are 20mph. I ride a heavy, single speed bike with two pannier bags, so my max speed in the flat Central London is 20mph, and most of the time I’m between 10-15mph. I constantly experience motor vehicles flying past me at 25mph + in the 20mph zones. Yet so many hypocrites comment here, blaming cyclists for being “too fast” whilst 86% of drivers regularly speed in their faster, heavier, more deadly SUVs. Plus they’ll beep at any cyclist in front of them, scream at us to “get back in your cycle lane” as, whilst we’re “too fast”, we’re also “too slow” when holding them up, funny that! Pedestrians have a duty to look before stepping into the road. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code, specifically 7 (d). Before crossing, pedestrians must stop, look, if traffic is coming (including cyclists) let it pass, and wait for a safe gap to cross. Roads are dangerous, they are designed for traffic to move faster than walking pace. If you are going to complain that the least dangerous users of the roads are too fast, whilst being slower than the speed limit, then you need to lobby to reduce the speed limit for ALL road traffic. Think how few accidents there would be in towns/cities if the speed limit was 5mph for ALL traffic. Ridiculous suggestion though as society would grind to a halt, but you get the point. The speed of the cyclists is not the issue, the issue causing these incidents are pedestrians and drivers not looking, not following the rules, and your attempt to blame cyclists is a cheap deflection from this. Everyone (including some cyclists who I see running reds and cycling on pavements) needs to follow the rules instead of trying to point the finger at others. Take some personal responsibility!
