    2:45 the bus stopped for the other bus to turn. I have strong believe that they signalled each other. You should've stopped with the bus.

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 8 днів тому

      There are three lanes of traffic onto Putney Bridge, a cycle lane and two road lanes. The bus is in a road lane, I’m in a cycle lane. Just because the driver of the bus may have let the other bus go, does that mean the other driver can assume both lanes are clear? Answer is no, just because another driver signals you can go, doesn’t mean you can forgo the safety checks you need to do to ensure it’s clear. This is something they teach you very early on in driving tests. Secondly, I’m behind the bus, I have no idea that it’s signalled to another driver, Putney Bridge is very congested during rush hour so it’s most likely the bus slowed for traffic. I’m in my own lane, my lane is clear so I’m good to go. The other bus driver should have given way to me in the cycle lane, he has to wait for a safe gap before turning across multiple lanes. You need to have a good read of the Highway Code!

    • @howardlam6181
      @howardlam6181 8 днів тому

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 The highway code also recommends not to undertake, especially at where you can make a turn.

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 8 днів тому

      @ Firstly motorbikes, mopeds, and cyclists are allowed to filter through slow moving traffic as per the Highway Code, that means passing on the inside, between traffic, or on the outside. Secondly I’m in a separate cycle lane in this case, it’s not considered undertaking when it’s a separate dedicated cycle lane. Twice now you are wrong. Had that bus driver collided with a cyclist they would have been the one deemed in the wrong. It’s pretty basic, when you are turning across oncoming traffic you must give way and wait for a safe gap. Do you drive? If you do, and you don’t know this, you need a refresher course asap!

    • @howardlam6181
      @howardlam6181 8 днів тому

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 No. I don't drive at all. I only cycle. But it's stupid to think that just because you're on a cycle lane, it isn't undertaking. In fact, there is no law against undertaking. It's just doing so endanger yourself. And you can see in this case that the bus turning can't see you, nor can you see the bus. I have made similar mistake where the car beside me stopped for no reason and there is another car parked in front of me so both these cars blocked my view in front, and I just overtook them but little did I know there is a fire truck plowing through the street ahead towards my way. I might have slowed down the fire truck because of that. I should have just stopped alongside the car. If the car next to you stops for no reason, there is a good reason and you probably should just follow especially when you can't see because it blocks your view.

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 8 днів тому

      @ You original assertion that I was in the wrong was incorrect. However if you look closely you’ll see I don’t pass the bus, I’m cautious (not stupid as you say) and I’m not going to pick a fight with the bus turning across. I stop alongside the bus heading in the same direction. The fault however was 100% with the turning bus. I’ve copied some sections of the Highway Code below that you should acquaint yourself with (the last two show that just because one bus driver may have waved the other through, does not mean they shouldn’t check it’s clear before proceeding): Rule 151 In slow-moving traffic. You should be aware of cyclists and motorcyclists who may be passing on either side. Rule 160: Be aware of other road users, especially cycles and motorcycles who may be filtering through the traffic. These are more difficult to see than larger vehicles and their riders are particularly vulnerable. Give them plenty of room, especially if you are driving a long vehicle or towing a trailer. You should give way to cyclists when you are changing direction or lane - do not cut across them. Rule 170: Take extra care at junctions. You should watch out for cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians including powered wheelchairs/mobility scooter users as they are not always easy to see. Be aware that they may not have seen or heard you if you are approaching from behind Rule 180 Turning right: Wait until there is a safe gap between you and any oncoming vehicle. Watch out for cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians and other road users. Check your mirrors and blind spot again to make sure you are not being overtaken, then make the turn. Do not cut the corner. Take great care when turning into a main road; you will need to watch for traffic in both directions and wait for a safe gap. Rule 181: This can block your view of oncoming vehicles, so take extra care. Cyclists and motorcyclists in particular may be hidden from your view. Road layout, markings or how the other vehicle is positioned can determine which course should be taken. Rule 110 Flashing headlights. Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users. Rule 111 Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed. Use your own judgement and proceed carefully.

    Most of these clips, other cyclists were at fault and in a lot of the other ones you can see why car drivers do what they do because of all these dodgy cyclists. But you can also see why cyclists want to cycle, because that traffic is hell, who wants to get stuck in it. The two just don't get on, and that combined with impatient pedestrians (jaywalking should be illegal in London) i can see why there is so much anomosity between them all.

      @@Historyrevenge777 No, my speed is not the cause of these issues. I’m cycling below the speed limits, and paying full attention, this is why my videos are full of misses and not accidents. I’m travelling at a safe speed allowing me to stop for/avoid all of these incidents. The cause of these issues are pedestrians/drivers who have not paid attention before stepping/pulling out into the road/changing lanes etc. I see many commenters on here, deflecting from the real issue and trying to victim shame cyclists. Cyclists are far slower, and far less dangerous than motor vehicles. Motor vehicles kill 450-500 pedestrians annually in the UK, cyclists less than one pedestrian per year on average. A recent government study showed that 86% of drivers admit to speeding in 20mph zones. As 80% of new cars sold these days are 2 tonne+ SUV’s which are 8 times more likely to kill a child in an accident vs. a typical saloon, the fact that so many are speeding is more worrying. Today, pretty much all the roads in Central London are 20mph. I ride a heavy, single speed bike with two pannier bags, so my max speed in the flat Central London is 20mph, and most of the time I’m between 10-15mph. I constantly experience motor vehicles flying past me at 25mph + in the 20mph zones. Yet so many hypocrites comment here, blaming cyclists for being “too fast” whilst 86% regularly speed in their faster, heavier, more deadly SUVs. Plus they’ll beep at any cyclist in front of them, scream at us to “get back in your cycle lane” as, whilst we’re “too fast”, we’re also “too slow” when holding them up, funny that! Pedestrians have a duty to look before stepping into the road. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code, specifically 7 (d). Before crossing, pedestrians must stop, look, if traffic is coming (including cyclists) let it pass, and wait for a safe gap to cross. Roads are dangerous, they are designed for traffic to move faster than walking pace. If you are going to complain that the least dangerous users of the roads are too fast, whilst being slower than the speed limit, then you need to lobby to reduce the speed limit for ALL road traffic. Think how few accidents there would be in towns/cities if the speed limit was 5mph for ALL traffic. Ridiculous suggestion though as society would grind to a halt, but you get the point. The speed of the cyclists is not the issue, the issue causing these incidents are pedestrians and drivers not looking, not following the rules, and your attempt to blame cyclists is a cheap deflection from this. Everyone (including cyclists who I see running reds and cycling on pavements) needs to follow the rules instead of trying to point the finger at others. Take some personal responsibility!

    2:46 don't really see a problem with this guy. Yh he probably shouldn't have done it but it wasn't a near miss

    I may be wrong, but in the states, whether the pedestrian has the right of way or not, it’s the law that you have to stop for them. Pedestrians always have the right of way here

      @@michaelslifecycle If you collide with a pedestrian, as a cyclist, the onus is on you. This is different from the pedestrians always having right of way however, the rules are clear that all road-users (including pedestrians) have responsibility to follow the rules.

      @ Ahh I see. So it makes sense why you’re doing everything you can to avoid them, versus some other cyclists trying to scare the pedestrians or even run into them. Thanks for the response

      @ It’s so busy in London during rush hour, you’d never get anywhere if you stopped for every pedestrian who stepped into the road. It’s a balance of keeping momentum whilst also keeping everyone safe. 👍🏻

    This looks so unenjoyable 😂 I would just stop riding if this was the place I lived in

    As someone who’s driven a car, a van and now cycles daily in London… also lived as a pedestrian for most of my adult life… I can tell you one universal truth. The road is full of total idiots across the entire spectrum. As you can see in this video 😬

    London is a city designed for pedestrians and vehicles, NOT cyclists. Why make your life, so stressful and miserable by cycling?

      @@ICantBeCompletlyCertain Do you think commuting by train is any less stressful and miserable? Costly ticket, constant delays, no seat and being rammed in like sardines, people shouting “can you move down please” when the carriage is already full to bursting, catching everybody’s bugs and viruses etc. My cycle commute is effectively free, it’s quicker than getting the train, it’s consistently approx. 40 minutes every day with no delays, it keeps me fit, no costly gym membership needed and I’m utilising my commuting time for exercise, it de-stresses me after a crappy day at work as I’ve burned off all the adrenaline by the time I’m home. That’s why I cycle. 👍🏻

      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 I hope you never get hit, run over or crushed. But the risks are very high in London.

      @ Thank you. I’ve been cycling through central London rush hour for something like 17 years now. The danger is there but it’s easily avoided if you are careful. I have zero desire to have an accident and I concentrate very hard whilst cycling to avoid such dangerous situations.
