    I had someone do this and pass to the left of me. She said she was turning while facing the rear of the car dealing with her kid. WTF. Agree with the bollards comment. The A-pillar on cars is so big nowadays, especially on ridiculous SUVs, it's dangerous, which adds to the problem of bad drivers. And why is "I didn't see you" always an excuse for driving like an idiot.

    I can't understand these stupid comments using the excuses about A-pillars? How does the A-pillar stop her from seeing the lane markings on the ground, or the cyclist who just passed? Her front wheel was pointed well into Ryan's position as she made the turn. And if Ryan wasn't positioned there more than half of her vehicle would have been in the wrong lane.
    It is time to make cutting corners an offence even if there is no vehicle at the intersection. Taking them correctly must be ingrained into drivers.

  • @jrchesuk

    Poor lack of observation by the driver yes, but putting yourself alongside a vehicle on a single lane junction and right bang in the middle of the lane is asking for trouble. Just as when we drive we have to anticipate the what if as a cyclist and this didn’t happen here, even as a driver you wouldn’t go that close to the next lane because we know what crap drivers do. Clearly you are not chiefly to blame but 1 ft to the left and this wouldn’t have been an issue, be patient and wait for the car to the left to clear!

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007  6 місяців тому

      I’m not to blame at all, the entrance lane for that woman is twice as wide as her vehicle, there’s no reason, no excuse for her to cut the corner. I’m not on the line, I’m the correct side of it, I’m crossing over whilst the car next to me is turning left, so being on the right side of it is correct. There’s no shared blame here, that is 100% poor driving, poor road positioning, poor observation.

    • @jrchesuk
      @jrchesuk 6 місяців тому

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 well the main thing is you didn't get hit, I've not been so lucky previously which probably stems from why I take the view of waiting for the other car to clear so I can go a little more to the left so even if someone stupidly cuts, as they often do, I won't get hit again. Maybe she thought theres a car there so nothing else will be, but that doesn't make up for her complete lack of observations which you almost paid the price for! Videos are great btw, maybe a few drivers will learn from them!

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed my videos. Goal of posting them is in the hope that drivers will see what it’s like from a cyclist’s perception, and maybe consider that when in their vehicle. Also for cyclists new to cycling in the City to give them an idea of what to look out for.

      @@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 Thank you, I was hit on a country lane by a young lad in a black Vauxhall Corsa that cut the corner and drove off, I was in the middle of my lane but still hit the wing of his car and thankfully missed his windshield and flew through a hedge and into a field, he was caught on CCTV at a nearby pub. I tried cycling on the road a few months after recovering but the mental affect of it put me off so had some time away before I got the mental courage back. You might also be interested to know I live in Chester where as far as I can tell every cyclist goes through red lights, so when I went to Edinburgh as a pedestrian I expected the same but not a single cyclist when through a red light… whether this is eduction, morals or because the police are on it I don’t know, but it’s interesting!

      Do you know that the driver’s head can move independently from the A-Pillar? Ever heard of checking your blind spots? Pretty much the first thing they teach you in driving lessons? Finally the driver’s road positioning was terrible, she turned for the corner far too early, had she been further to the right before turning she would have been able to see me, plus wouldn’t have needed to cut the corner. Don’t excuse terrible/dangerous driving!

    so let me tell you what happened: you came up behind the car, while a bus passed. lady driver had no chance whatsoever to see you. ok. she then kept her eyes to the left, because in her mind, she had already accounted for the car turning left (which you are now positioned to the side of). she then turned as quickly as possible, to make her turn. she also cut the corner. What you have here is about 5x unfortunate circumstances in a row, which almost got you run over. As a motorcyclist, this happens all the time. I think to myself: yes, other drivers are idiots, but what could I have done to prevent this? In this case, I would have stayed behind the driver turning left, not comming up to the side of the car.

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007  7 місяців тому +12

      I knew that, somehow, me being stationary, on the correct side of the road would be my fault in the eyes of some! 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️
      I’m not turning left on that road, I’m effectively going straight over (slightly to the left), there’s a little reservation for cyclists in the centre of the road I’m aiming for, where I wait to then turn right. If I was turning left I’d wait behind that car, but as I’m not I keep to the right as there was plenty of space.
      No excusing that ladies driving, she stopped well short of the turn, she should have been several meters further forward before she turned. It’s a wide entry there so zero need to cut irrespective of what other traffic was around. I don’t know what distracted her but she clearly wasn’t looking where she was going sadly.

    • @vfclists
      @vfclists 7 місяців тому +1

      Stop making excuses for execrable driving. Why couldn't she move right up the position where the line dividing Ryan's lane would intersect the dividing line of the main road? Why couldn't she move further up and turn the steering properly and make a 90 degree turn, with the ease her SUV's power steering affords her? Her right tire was pointing in Ryans direction and most of the car would have been in the wrong lane as she made the turn.
