Hey Ryan! I’ve just spotted myself in your video. Firstly, REALLY sorry for the language and for swerving into your path to avoid that van. I actually got hit by a car the other day. Someone overtook and then turned left right into me... I didn’t even swear at him! I’m definitely going to wear a camera from now on. Cycling in London is scary.
No problem at all, that was entirely the van driver's fault. At the time I was chuckling at your frank assessment of the driver's intelligence! 😉 I try not to swear myself but it's impossible in the moment. If I ever have a discussion with someone about an incident afterwards, I'm careful not to swear (as that won't help), but I'm often having to bleep myself out in these videos at the point it happens. So sorry that you had a collision. That's a pet hate of mine, where drivers overtake then instantly turn left on you, giving you nowhere to go. I hope that you're ok? I use the GoPro for safety reasons, thankfully haven't needed it yet. If I do have a collision I can use the footage to show that I was following the rules, so that it's not just my word vs someone else's. It's a side hobby to collect clips and make videos with them. Keep safe and I hope to see you out there again soon.
In this clip you almost hit the indian guy when you are in the wrong people are crossing it's on red Amber so they still have right of way and you move towards him forcing him to stop he's in the right green means go if it's clear it wasn't clear 3 people still crossing clap clap to you
That guy had a red man, the Highway Code States that you must not start to cross when you have the red man. So clap clap to him. Cycles are very slow to accelerate, hence you need to be moving as soon as the lights turn green otherwise the cars behind are leaning on their horns at you (clap clap to them too). When the lights go amber, the small movement you see from me is me lifting my foot off the pavement to clip into my pedal, this is so I'm ready to go once it hits green. I don't move forward more than a meter on the amber, and at about 1 mph just so I don't topple over whilst clipping in. There's no danger there. I don't make any material movement forward until the light has turned green. You're clutching at straws there, so clap clap to you too!

From my experience bicycling in traffic in various places (LA, Boston, Stockholm, Guatemala, Mallorca, thankfully not NYC or London!), it appears to me that you deal well with both predictable and unexpected hazards. @@ali.thecoder Now is a good time to buy, cycle stores like Evan's tend to have a sale on whilst they try and get rid of all their 2018 models. My cycle history in London has been a Scott Hybrid that cost me £270. It fell apart after 6 months of daily riding. I went too cheap. Next I bought a Bianchi road bike for about £800. This lasted about 3 years before the main crank bent. I found it reasonably unreliable. Next I bought a Cannondale CAAD 9 for £900. This was a great bike, very light and reliable. Probably my best bike to date. It lasted 8 years and I only replaced it as I wanted disc brakes. My current bike is Cannondale Synapse, cost about £800. It's heavier than my last bike, however it has cable operated disc brakes and a Shimano Tiagra gear set (very reliable). From my experience, I would say don't go too cheap as it's a false economy. I prefer Road Bikes to hybrids. They are lighter and more nimble, good for London traffic. I recommend disc brakes, you get better performance than rim brakes, especially in the wet. Again key in London where you will have to brake suddenly. You'll be changing gear a lot, so I recommend getting one of the upper Shimano gear sets, you can look then up, I can't remember them all but Tiagra is good, I think Ultegra is even better but may be overkill if your just commuting (which is all I do). I'm constantly up and down the gears on my commute, the cable wears through every 6 months or so but the gear leavers etc are very reliable. Other tips is I have two flashing lights on the front (white), and two on the rear (red). It's a legal requirement to have one, I have two just in case one runs out of battery half way. I bought some plastic mudguards on Amazon for about £20. These are great in wet weather, for years I wouldn't use them as I thought they looked naff, and for years I got a wet arse when it rained. Now, even in heavy rain my arse stays dry! I'm not sure where you're coming from, however London is very cold during the winter. Windproof gloves, a warm windproof jacket, leggings and a headband to cover your ears are essential. Just generally I wear padded shorts as the saddle is hard and it's nice to have done cushioning. I also recommend a helmet for safety. I prefer to use clipless pedals. This is where your shoes attach to the pedals, connecting you to the bike. I like them as you have more control over the bike, your foot won't slip off the pedal plus your cycling efficiency increases by 30% as you can pull up as well as push down on the pedal. You have to buy special shoes plus it takes a bit of getting used to in learning how to unclip. So if you've never used them before, practice at a standstill first plus go and cycle around a quiet park to get used to them. That's all off the top of my head. Hope it's useful. That bumboclart guy was so funny. I don’t mean to be picky, but a lot of your clips are extremely minor things. Do the minor things annoy you much? I don’t really get bothered by minor things. Like, people crossing when it’s red for them. I really get angered by people that randomly start to cross the road, without looking, at point blank range. Noticed a few in this vid and it’s quite scary. people pulling out without looking and making me brake, slightly, really doesn’t bother me. It only bothers me when I have to slam on the brakes and almost crash. That stuff really gets to me. Not so bad at all if person on receiving end, is in a car, van etc because they are quite protected and will not go flying into road and possibly get ran over multiple times but cyclists, e scooter riders, mopeds don’t have this protection. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect anyone else, other then me, to keep me safe but when people go out of their way to make you unsafe, sometimes there’s nothing you can do but crash. I’m thinking that maybe I should get a camera, for when I’m out on bike and e scooter. Least if some fucker almost kills me. I’ll have info to give to police. I honestly think drivers that show no consideration for others less protected, on the road, should be made to take a bicycle to work and home a few times a week. Then they’d realise how much of a danger, they are to others on the road and maybe change their ways. Oh I get really annoyed when I’m on edge of road in bus/cycle lane and other cyclists, moped and especially black taxis, pass me extremely close and almost cause an accident. Proper makes my heart jump a beat because just a slight tap, is more then enough to throw rider, into the road.
Hi Graham. In isolation the minor things don’t bother me too much but when they happen 20 times every ride it gets frustrating. As you know, a minor thing can still result in a damaged bike, a broken arm etc. the driver may pull out of the junction, see you then stop and you go a little wide but it’s minor, but at they point they do that you don’t know if they will see you and stop, or just keep going and suddenly minor is major, the margin is very thin. I typically put up clips of all instances where other road users don’t look where they are going. That seems so basic to me, at the very minimum when using the road, look out for other road users. Keep safe. 🙂👍🏻
There are bad cyclists, pedestrians, bikers, car drivers etc. From all camps I'd estimate that 80% are very good, 15% have the odd moment of bad driving and 5% are a complete menace! 😉
Can’t understand why other bikers don’t do the life saver over the shoulder look! ... we are taught from day 1, always look over your shoulder, no matter what vehicle you use. Had the same thing happen in Deptford, single speed(not that makes any diff) trying to prove a point that he is faster than me, swings from left to right(middle of the road) without looking or signalling. If I had been a second faster he would have knocked me off. I don’t particularly want to race pep home in rush hour traffic and I have 30 odd miles to do... need my energy 💪 I did kindly try to educate him, but he chose to ignore logic. It’s only a matter of time b4 he will sadly be hit from another vehicle.. oh of course it’s the other persons fault 🙄😂

There are bad cyclists, pedestrians, bikers, car drivers etc. From all camps I'd estimate that 80% are very good, 15% have the odd moment of bad driving and 5% are a complete menace! 😉
Whats more likely? Dying of a collision or dying of a heart attack from the near misses?
Can’t understand why other bikers don’t do the life saver over the shoulder look! ... we are taught from day 1, always look over your shoulder, no matter what vehicle you use.
Had the same thing happen in Deptford, single speed(not that makes any diff) trying to prove a point that he is faster than me, swings from left to right(middle of the road) without looking or signalling. If I had been a second faster he would have knocked me off. I don’t particularly want to race pep home in rush hour traffic and I have 30 odd miles to do... need my energy 💪
I did kindly try to educate him, but he chose to ignore logic. It’s only a matter of time b4 he will sadly be hit from another vehicle.. oh of course it’s the other persons fault 🙄😂
Crazy isn't it. Takes a split second to throw a look over the shoulder! I'm sure that guy will come a cropper at some point and learn the lesson. I just hope he doesn't take someone else out at the same time!
