Lots of these aren't near misses- they are just annoying or impatience. My two cents are change the title to add these in as well, or upload less frequently and cut them out.
@@steffenfrost995 They are predominantly incidents where rule breaking and lack of looking by others leads to me having to take avoiding action. I call them misses as, if I was paying as little attention as these other road users these would be collisions.
I use a GoPro on a GoPro chest mount, I actually have the camera upside down but you can flip the footage. It takes bit of experimentation to get the camera angle correct as I lean forward when I cycle, so need to tilt the camera so that it's still facing forward (and not pointing at the floor) in my typical cycling position.
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 The viewing angle in your video is very immersive, not every road cyclist is able to capture videos with that immersive view.
I have to say this a lot of the cars are stupid yes “but” the bike is not keeping a 2 second gap by law in accordance to DVLA regulations so yea not all their fault !!!!!
Your in denial....every pedestrian is wrong and you are right........I look forward to your response when you leave an A&E department...with your tall story of how it was someone else’s fault.....🚑🚑🚑👩🦼
Oh I’m certain that pedestrians are supposed to look and wait for a safe gap before crossing the road. I’m also certain that every person in this country was taught how to safely cross the road from as soon as they were old enough to walk. Shame so many seem to have forgotten this key life skill!
as a driver I was quizzed on the highway code to pass my test as a cyclist I was allowed to buy a bike and go straight on the road how many cyclist how don't drive have even looked at one now we have to get pedestrian to know the rules if we can't get drivers and cyclist to us the same rules no hope with pedestrians
The pedestrian section in the Highway Code is the same stuff we have drummed into us from the age of three through schools etc. So there’s not really any excuse for not knowing how to cross the road. Most schools also run cycling proficiency schemes also.
I think your manner of cycling with regard to pedestrians, if converted to driving, would be considered aggressive. Remember it’s not a specific offence for pedestrians to cross against a red man, they can really cross whenever. I think a little more patience in some circumstances would be warranted.
It’s not a specific offence to stick your finger into an electric socket... Pedestrians should show a little more patience at crossing when they have the red, I agree. I also drive, on the whole pedestrians and drivers respect other cars. Pedestrians wait when they see you car, other drivers cut you up far less. Cycling and driving in a busy city are too very different things.
If I'm stopped at red lights, I know that I'm slow to accelerate, plus I have to clip in first. Cars behind are very impatient and are on the horn at you the second it's green. So when the Amber shows, I push off with my foot to get a bit of momentum so I can clip in and start cycling as the light goes green. So I think you're right, however I've not moved more than a metre before the green comes on, and it wouldn't be necessary if drivers were a bit more patient towards slow starting cyclists at the lights. Glad you like the videos. Thank you. 🙂👍
With your aggressive cycling.....YOU are an accident waiting to happen....here’s hoping London’s A&E have the staff to treat you as well as a COVID patient..!
Quite the opposite, with my careful cycling, adherence to the rules and simply by looking where I’m going I was able to stop for and avoid all of these incidents. Incidents caused by people not looking, aggressively walking out into the road when it’s not clear. If they could take a second to look, wait for a safe gap before crossing the roads would be much safer.
You should watch Life sized City’s “what I learned from watching 100,000 cyclists”. It kinda tells you why pedestrians and cyclist break the law. From my own personal view if it happens so much then the system is wrong and we aren’t incentivising riding correctly
@@cheddaz86 I think our traffic laws are pretty liberal really, they are not too complicated. I feel it’s more of a cultural issue than anything to do with the rules. People show far less respect to each other these days, and are a lot more self centres plus many are cocooned in their personal bubble of smartphones, noise cancelling headphones etc. and are therefore far less aware of their surroundings. I think a lot more should be done on educating people on road use from an early age. Also I think that in the next decade AI and self driving cars should make the roads far safer and efficient.
Why keep cycling at speed at people on the road? No thought for partially sighted, deaf or mentally impaired people not fully aware of their surroundings. Persons already on the road when you approach have right of way, regardless of you having a green light. Remember, your bike is not so easy to see, and makes no noise as it approaches. Cyclists should all have a compulsory test as drivers do.
Such stupid people causing dangerous situations. And why the hell was that blue car blocking the cycle lane. Looks like they didn't want to merge or something.
It's something I see often, where two lanes merge to one, and there's a cycle lane, aggressive drivers who don't want to conceed a place to another driver try and drive up the cycle lane. Happens all too often unfortunately.
Fools, did you ever try reporting them? I got 1 driver sent on a course at their expense for cutting me off and pushing out of the cycle lane to go around a right turning car.
@@axolotol I've tried reporting a couple of drivers to the police and, despite clear video, both times they've come back saying there's not enough evidence to proceed. I'm guessing they are understaffed, haven't time to follow it up. So I don't tend to bother. Good that you had a response though, maybe there's hope!
Keep trying, maybe just the obvious ones at first. Some success will be a boost to your confidence in them. I can imagine minor traffic offences wouldn't be a priority at the moment but anything serious they should still follow up. I've got one more pending currently for a cab driver crossing the cycle box after the red light, not uploaded until an outcome, and one other driving course competed for a dangerous undertake, uploaded already. The hardest part for me reporting is having to wait a coupe months before uploading the footage.

These videos have popped up again as a recommendation, rather annoyingly. You still have not learnt to kill your speed and be more aware of your surroundings. I've said it before and I'll say it again you'll learn the hard way. Look forward to the day when you approach a ped at speed when they are crossing the road and you end up getting cracked across the head by them for being an arse. Next time you are crossing the road and a car beeps at you to hurry up and get out of the way remember that you are no different to this.
@@fatimaSM236 Thank you, that's exactly it. Apart from the dozy car drivers and pedestrians, it seems to me that a lot of cyclists expect to cycle as fast as they can irrespective of their own safety and the hazards around them
It’s a common misconception that cycles are too fast/racing/zooming etc. My average speed on my commute is 13-15mph. My max speed is a little over 20mph. This is slower than the cars/mopeds/motorbikes passing at 30mph on the same roads and well below the speed limits. What do you think poses more danger to pedestrians, a two tonne SUV travelling 30mph, or a 90kg cyclist travelling 15mph? Which do you think can stop faster? Motor vehicles kill 450-500 pedestrians a year in the UK, cyclists maybe 1 every few years (although it always makes the press). We’re “too fast” until the second we’re in front if your car when all of a sudden we’re too slow and we’re beeped at for being in the way, moaned at for leaving the cycle lane or riding two abreast, holding up the motor-vehicles. So it’s hypocritical to call cyclists too fast when you’re happy to drive cars, lorries, buses etc. far faster down the very same roads. The speed of cyclists is not the problem, the problem is that many pedestrians/drivers do not look out for cyclist, or even when they do see them they refuse to wait.
It’s not a misconception at all. I regularly see 100kg hurtling at 20-30 mph just inches away with zero attempt to slow down around pedestrians and it’s not acceptable. That weight at that speed is lethal to the young and elderly. This is about pedestrian safety and cyclists. Stop diverting the conversation to other vehicles as they are irrelevant to the point being made. Cyclist must slow down around pedestrians
@@tmahe28 It’s not at all irrelevant, we see cars driving “hurtling” 20-30mph alongside busy pavements full of pedestrians too. And the system is designed that way, that’s perfectly legal, hence we’re all taught from about 3 years old that roads are dangerous and you have to stop, look, if traffic is coming let it pass, and wait for a safe gap before crossing. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code. You are the one that’s deflecting. If you walk out into the road without looking you are very likely to encounter a lorry, bus, van, car, motorcycle, moped or a cyclist legally moving at 20-30mph. I’ve put those in order of most dangerous to least. You can’t sit there and say you’re happy for all the rest to legally travel at that speed alongside the pavement through town yet blame the least dangerous/slowest of the bunch just because you can’t be bothered to look/wait for cyclists. It’s very hypocritical.
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 you keep claiming I say things (which I never said) whilst not focusing on the only point I am making which is about pedestrians and cyclists. There is nothing at all hypocritical in saying that cyclists need to slow down when there are pedestrians about. Pedestrians are more vulnerable than cyclists and it is the responsibility of cyclists to consider pedestrian safety. Due to the close proximity of pedestrians and cyclists to each other and the fact that cyclists are harder to see or hear than larger noisier vehicles it makes perfect sense to ease off a bit for their safety. I would say 10 mph is more than enough
@@tmahe28 It’s hypocritical when you only target cyclists, and ignore the motor vehicles on the very same roads. If you think the in-town 20-30mph speed limits should come down to 10mph then they should come down for all road vehicles, not just the least dangerous. It is also the pedestrians responsibility to consider cyclist safety. A collision is just as likely to injure the cyclist. We are easier to see than a pedestrian, I have a bright orange bike and have two flashing lights front and rear all year around. You’ll see me if you look! No point using your ears to cross the road, there are electric scooters, mopeds, motorbikes and cars now which are almost silent at 20-30mph. My videos are full of misses because I take great care. It’s not as fast as it looks (GoPro gives a false impression of speed), I’m following the rules and looking where I’m going. As a pedestrian there are rules that apply to you too (Read HC rule 7). You can’t walk out into a road without looking, then blame road vehicles that are legally travelling at a sensible speed. This is half the problem with people today, the refusal to take personal responsibility, just to point and shout at others to divert blame. It’s so simple, we expect small children to understand that roads are dangerous, traffic is moving at speed so take care, stop, look, listen, and wait for a safe gap before crossing. What’s hard to understand about that?
These incidents were caused by other road users not following the rules or looking where they are going. Do you walk out into the road without looking? We expect little children to understand that’s dangerous, can you?
all those lemmings walking out without looking, just what drivers think of cyclists let's remember pedestrians always have right of way all road users need to pay attention
No, pedestrians don’t always have the right of way. You’ll not find that anywhere in the Highway Code. We have a system of taking turns and all road users have equal responsibility to wait when it’s not their turn.
Summary : Cyclist rides as if almost entitled to no interruption in forward momentum in city streets busy with lots of other cars, vans, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. When in traffic conditions REMEMBER, your not beating traffic - you are traffic.
Cycle lanes have hatched markings meaning other road users can and will cross over the line. Slow down and think. As a rider you assume way to much and get angry way too easily.
A dashed cycle lane means that motor vehicles should not enter unless unavoidable. Not as and when they feel like it. Have a read of the Highway Code. 🙂👍
Well, there's nothing to be at fault for as they are all misses. These were all caused by others not looking where they were going, thankfully I am looking where I am going so none of these became a collision. Are you the sort of person who strolls out into the road without looking, then blames others when you nearly get hit?
Your spatial awareness and velocity extrapolation prediction is really poor compared to average. Really sad for a bike rider. Do a slower sport. Serious. Surprised no one ever told you before? Or you ignored them ...
Not at all, I’m following the rules and I’m looking where I’m going. These incidents are caused by impatient and unobservant people who can’t be bothered to look and wait for a safe gap before walking/pulling out into the road.
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 I have driven in busy cities, all those using the roads have to be patient and considerate as not everyone is a local who is familiar with the area. I have found cyclists to be the worst offenders for riding in a manner which will only result in injury to themselves. They are generally riding faster than the flow of traffic and weaving in and out between lanes, which is evident in the footage. Instead of treating conested roads like race tracks, try riding more responsibly and read the road ahead. Take that chip off your shoulder and you may live longer.
@@paulsharman3369 Shows that as a pedestrian or driver you must pay attention and look out for cyclists, mopeds and motorbikes as they are often filtering through congested traffic. Please consider this when you cross, or when you are driving you car. This is covered in detail in the Highway Code which is freely available to all online. 🙂👍🏻
I know what you mean when you say that if you hit the car in front "it's your fault", however I don't think that's the case if you're in a separate lane and the car pulls across on you. When changing lanes the onus is on the driver to check the next lane is clear, plus give adequate signal.

'Frustrations and near misses' reflects more accurately
@@steffenfrost995 They are predominantly incidents where rule breaking and lack of looking by others leads to me having to take avoiding action. I call them misses as, if I was paying as little attention as these other road users these would be collisions.
I'm assuming you use a chest strap for your camera? At what angle or how exactly do you position your camera?
I use a GoPro on a GoPro chest mount, I actually have the camera upside down but you can flip the footage. It takes bit of experimentation to get the camera angle correct as I lean forward when I cycle, so need to tilt the camera so that it's still facing forward (and not pointing at the floor) in my typical cycling position.

Cycling and driving in a busy city are too very different things.
why I love this kind of problems hahahaha.
🙂👍🏻
I think your videos are a force for good, but unless I'm mistaken there is no situation where Amber means you can get going.
Thank you. 🙂👍

Quite the opposite, with my careful cycling, adherence to the rules and simply by looking where I’m going I was able to stop for and avoid all of these incidents.

The Netherlands and a lot of the Nordic countries manage cyclists far better. We can learn from them.
You should watch Life sized City’s “what I learned from watching 100,000 cyclists”. It kinda tells you why pedestrians and cyclist break the law.
From my own personal view if it happens so much then the system is wrong and we aren’t incentivising riding correctly
All road users should follow the rules and look where they are going. Pretty simple.
Closed minded reply
@@cheddaz86 I think our traffic laws are pretty liberal really, they are not too complicated. I feel it’s more of a cultural issue than anything to do with the rules.
People show far less respect to each other these days, and are a lot more self centres plus many are cocooned in their personal bubble of smartphones, noise cancelling headphones etc. and are therefore far less aware of their surroundings. I think a lot more should be done on educating people on road use from an early age. Also I think that in the next decade AI and self driving cars should make the roads far safer and efficient.
🤔
Crazy
I hate when cycle lanes stop all of a sudden the dumbass drivers scoot over and cut you off
Why keep cycling at speed at people on the road?
Wow these bike lanes are fucking dreadful

Those cycling lanes in London . Are too narrow.

Used a Hornit DB140 for a few years. Good bit of kit but I prefer just to shout rather than fumbling for a button when I want to be full on the brakes.
Blimey, you get yourself into all sorts of trouble don’t you. Very aggressive cycling will get you into trouble like that, curb your ego boy racer.
Give way to pedestrian on a crossing always, piss poor riding
Cycling will never (even remotely) be safe in London.
Summary : Cyclist rides as if almost entitled to no interruption in forward momentum in city streets busy with lots of other cars, vans, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. When in traffic conditions REMEMBER, your not beating traffic - you are traffic.
I follow the Highway Code and pay attention, all I ask is that other road users do the same. Not much to ask really.
