from the first roundabout, it did the seem the ‘first’ of the three cyclists entered the roundabout just before yourself? but i see your point, you should slow down if traffic is incoming from your right provided you yourself were within the speed limit which i guess you were (20mph?)
Thankfully it’s a minority of cyclists thar don’t follow the rules (and likely the same people who don’t follow them when driving or walking). Most are pretty good. 🙂👍🏻
Fair observation. But that doesn't excuse the car drivers either. And a mistake by a car driver has grave consequences for a cyclist or a pedestrian. Not the other way around. And I say that as someone who drives and cycles in London.
That’s insane! Years back I tried to do three laps in one hour and missed it by about 2 minutes. Even at my quickest would never have been near that kind of pace. I have a single speed now so I’m very slow, plus I’m old too! 🤣 Well done on your mega lap
been binge watching all your videos as I'm getting a bike soon, I was wondering if you had any plans on making a video about how you lock your bike up safely in a city like London? I'm worried about my bike getting stolen, it's the main reason I've waited so long to get one.
Hi, hope you had a nice Christmas. My current office has a basement where I can safely store my bike so it’s not an issue now. I used to have to lock the bike on the street and here are my tips: D-locks are the strongest. I had two Abus D-locks, I would ensure the locks went around both the frame plus one wheel each. This meant nobody could steal my wheel (which happened before). I locked my bike to a dedicated bike lock station provided in the city. I’d advise against using lampposts etc. I’d take all removable items off the bike and into the office with me (lights, seat etc.). Unfortunately people steal them. I kept a bike cover in my bag, once locked up I put it over the bike best I could. This protected the bike a bit from the weather plus hid it a bit from thieves. Never leave the bike locked up on the street overnight as people will vandalise it. Safe cycling my friend. 🙂👍🏻
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 I use a chain lock for my back wheel and a cable for the front wheel to the lock. I also use a cover which is chained to the front wheel and I have a 110db alarm on the bike so just trying to get the cover off will set the alarm off, not to mention the two other locks they'd have to cut through
Glad you liked the video. My principal reason for the camera is in case of an incident. Thankfully haven’t needed to use it for that, and hopefully never will. However if I ever do I don’t want it to be my word against the other party as there’s a lot of prejudice towards cyclists out there. I want to be able to show that I was following the rules, and taking all reasonable precautions. 🙂👍🏻

Great video. I do a 20 mile round trip Monday to Friday on A road in Nottinghamshire and have a tail light video camera recording behind me just to keep safe. Saving up to purchase front camera too. Stay safe
OK again first of all, it's 20 mph for every vehicules in Richmond Park. Been driving there and I'm constantly being overtook by bicycles. Secondly, even if people are doing crazy moves / not paying attention, anticipate and let them pass. You are not on a facking track mate!
I have one gear on my bike, it’s a heavy steel bike, treaded tyres (not fast slicks), mud guards etc. I’m not racing, and secondly I’m travelling slower than 20mph (with one gear not capable of more). Even with a few downhill sections my average speed around the park is 18-19mph. Thirdly, most of the time in the park I’m being overtaken by drivers trying to squeeze past. I’m very aware and cautious when cycling, hence my videos are filled with misses. If only others would be more aware!
You are obviously correct in telling the cyclist to give way to the right at the roundabouts.... but there was plenty of room, so was it worth the hassle as they didn’t put you in danger. As for the dopey pedestrians perhaps you should get a bell?
They could have been pulling across the roundabout to turn right, which would have been a big crash, so had to emergency stop. Less hassle than a trip to hospital. 😉
Have some sympathy for the pedestrians. Narrow pavements with encroaching hedges and lightly used roads mean the streets are more convenient for the pedestrians. Add to that the fact of bicycles being silent.
Maybe try cycling defensively - people will do unexpected things, cycling defensively will help to prevent an accident. And if you plan to turn right then signal beforehand…?
Road rules don’t apply in London, you’ve just got to be aware and be prepared to stop. I’m a cyclist also and can see why most cyclists don’t give way to the right ay roehampton gate, if they’re continuing their lap it feels weird to give way to joining traffic while they’re continuing their lap. It’s wrong but saves hassle just to let people go as it’s not just some who don’t follow rules, it’s most
I agree with your attitude to the other cyclists.we want respect from car drivers but want to fuck about at round about????? Just follow the rules and it will work. It feels like driving standards have dropped. I avoid rushing hour and lunch time rides now. Not even sure I want to cycle road anymore. Possibly looking at the gravel route of get a mountain bike . Just to avoid the grief
The fact that you keep encountering these situations shows that you need to cycle more defensively. For example you are quickly going around a corner where you know pedestrians often walk in the cycle lane. Should they be there? No, but you know they often are yet you do not modify your behaviour. Same with that roundabout, you know cyclists often don't look for other cyclists coming from the right. So, why not cycle more defensively. Ride for the world as it is not as it should be.
I travel at a speed based on a clear stopping distance I can see ahead of me. Hence my videos are filled with misses. I very much cycle for the world as it is which is why I pay rapt attention and have my fingers on the brake levers at all times. If we can’t trust anyone on the roads then we should give up entirely with roads and go back to walking everywhere. 😉👍🏻
Exactly I’ve seen a fair amount of his videos now and While he is subject to awful driving and pedestrians not looking, I reckon a fair chunk of these incidents could be avoided if we as cyclists just have a bit more patience. He’ll say he did avoid these incidents because they didn’t become accidents, but that’s not avoiding. These are still situations to avoid.
Please change the way you cycle. Yes, some instances were not your fault (I'm looking at you, Merc driver) but at other times it seems like you don't understand that you are a relatively small, near-silent object - you must assume that people can't see you. For example, even when I'm driving a car, I slow down then look right AND left; you, however, just plough straight ahead on to the roundabout with the expectation that everyone to the left will have seen you. You also got annoyed at the white van driver for pulling over in front of you, then you angrily swerve around him; he _couldn't_ see you, calm down!
Never realised roundabouts were such to problem with cyclists on cyclists, if you have a guardian angel they must be exhausted with how much they're looking out for you!
My theory is that Richmond Park is a lap, and a lot of people are trying to beat their best time so don’t want to give way at the roundabouts. 🤦🏻♂️🙂👍🏻
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 the cycle lanes should be totally seprate to car lanes cyclist do not obay traffic signals and do not pay anything to the up keep of the roads
@@jeffvaljean6030 Again, most cyclists do obey the rules. Just a minority don’t. Most cyclists also have cars (so do pay emissions tax). As for rule following, 86% of drivers speed in towns/cities: www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/drivers-break-20mph-school-zone-limits/ That doesn’t factor in the number of drivers playing with their phones when driving. So let’s not pretend that drivers are angels eh?!
I’d say it’s more aggressive to ignore the road traffic rules and pull out without looking. I follow the rules and look where I’m going, wish others would too. 🙂👍🏻
I commute by bike in London, be it pedestrians, vehicles or other cyclists, there's numerous examples of fuckwittery everytime. Gotta have your wits about you all the time!
I'm not from the Netherlands but this literally looks like a parallel uninverse to me. I can't think of a single situation in which anyone ran a red light past few years or just completely ignored the cyclists on a crossing or a roundabout. Of course there is that one guy who just horns for no reason but I've never seen anyone intentionally cutting a cyclist off like this. Here in Czech Republic you'd instantly get a ticket in all of these scenarios. This is survival, not cycling.
That’s interesting to hear. Sounds like the Czech Republic is far ahead of us on cycle culture. In the UK there’s still a reluctance from many road users to accept that cyclists have a right to be on the road.
Avoid most of these sorts of problems-get an MTB and just go off road! Only partly kidding of course as you can't really do it before work. However, the fitness level you get to and the sheer , childlike fun of going down a rough hill is hard to match.
Ha yeah, I get a lot of comments from people who don’t like cyclists and I always think, if they don’t like cyclists then they really won’t like the e-scooter crowd! There aren’t many early when I do my lap of the park, but when I start going back to the office through Central London there will be lots! Pedestrians are the group who look least, follow the rules least and an e-scooter rider is basically a 15mph pedestrian jumping between pavements, roads etc. It’s going to be a lot of fun as they get more popular! 🤣
As a fellow cyclist this just reinforces my view that a huge proportion of cyclists, I would even say the majority, are inconsiderate twats who don't respect the road, don't signal, don't think they should obey the same laws as drivers and give us all a really bad name.
Thankfully in my experience most cyclists are very good, just the minority who ruin it. Likely the same minority who walk out without looking and play with their phone when driving! 😉👍🏻
I just cannot agree with you in the first clip (entering the round about). You approach with speed, arguably over the speed limit for that section of Richmond Park, and make no anticipation for cyclists already approaching their junction at what appears the correct speed. Also, whilst not legally correct, the cyclist makes a valid point about there being space for both of you.
My speed was well under 20mph (that’s a heavy single speed bike, it’s slow). The GoPro gives a false impression of speed. I’m no faster than the cyclist ahead of me. Yes there technically was room for both of us, however I didn’t know they were turning left, they aren’t signalling. When they ignored the right of way I had to start an emergency stop as, for all I knew they were going to cut across the front of me to turn right. Once I saw they were going left I could get out of the brakes but I’m not a mind reader. This is why we have rules at roundabouts. The rule isn’t “give way to the right unless you judge there’s room to squeeze alongside them”! So you don’t need to agree with me, the rule is straight forward, you give way to your right at a roundabout. Had they given way there would have been no issue, I’d have passed through without problem like the cyclist ahead of me. They caused the issue by ignoring the rules, then got all sniffy when I pointed it out to them, and now you leap to their defence.
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 I’ve been riding both fixed and single speed for almost 15 years, calling them slow is idiotic, you’d know that comes down to gearing etc. I see your points and do somewhat agree, but my point is this. There is joint liability here, both sides are at fault. I ’m not the only one on this comment section who thinks you ride like an inexperienced cyclist or someone who doesn’t learn from their mistakes.
@@Itsbengriff So you call me an idiot before knowing my gearing. My top speed on that bike (unless down a big hill) is approx. 20mph. I bought it for commuting only (where speed is not a consideration). I only rode it in the park to get some exercise during lockdown. You said I was speeding, I’m confirming to you I was not. Re other commenters, whilst you at least are a cyclist many are not, most are armchair experts, many do not like cyclists. So I take little stock of their opinion. I’ve cycled my whole life, and I’ve commuted by cycle in London for something like 18 years now and I’ve never injured anyone. Still in one piece, worst incident I’ve had was someone who opened a car door on me. Most of the commenters don’t get that the GoPro makes it look faster than it is, also I fast cut many of my videos which makes them look more dramatic (they are there for entertainment after all). If I have a fault is I often hold my ground (up to a point) where I have right of way, I do this under control (ready to stop/avoid) in the hope that the person ignoring the rules backs down. In London rush hour you need a bit if this as most people try it on (everyone is in a rush, running late). Many commenters feel I haven’t seen the potential hazard but I very much have in most cases, I’m just holding my ground. Step back from these points when watching my videos and you’ll see that I obey all the red lights/traffic signals, I follow the rules of the road, you can see that I’m cycling with two fingers on the brakes at all times, and that my videos are filled with misses. It’s not by chance that they are misses! If I was bouncing off pedestrians, other cyclists, cars etc. I’d take the criticism, but that’s not the case. So when I get comments about a clip where I’m following the rules, the other party has broken them, and yet I’m being told it’s all my fault, I do find it amusing.
To be honest most of your issues with pedestrians were in places that are badly designed and not really thebpedestrians fault, that runner at 3:20 seemed to be on a crossing and in the karrow streets with even narrower sidewalks on which cars are parked it is quite normal the pedestrians have to go on the road itself since they cannot use the sidewalks No excuses for the phone zombies however
Watching this, actually hoping you had an accident.. I see people like you every day in Richmond park. I reckon if you actually had any friends, you would probably also ride 2 or 3 abreast just to piss more people off.
Nice way to live, wishing injury on others. I cycle following the rules of the road, and looking out for other road users. Shame others don’t do the same. 🙂👍🏻
I’m sorry but in car situations why don’t you just slow down and let the car pass, I cycle regularly and fast on the roads and never encounter this anywhere in west London. Everyone just slows down and doesn’t cause a problem
@@Yazzie95 When I have right of way, why doesn’t the driver slow down and wait for me to pass? I don’t give in to bullying and hold my ground where safe to do so.
so its his fault parents dont care if there kids walk in the road and his fault they dont give way on a roundabout. As a cyclist i can tell hes not going that fast hes probably only going 15 mph when the road limits are 30+
Try approaching the roundabout a little slower - you’re making the situation worse….and please, you demands to everyone else is tedious…I don’t think you;re setting a good example with your videos - others will try and emulate your speed.
GoPro makes it look a lot faster than it is. I’m going 10-15mph there tops. You can see in the first two I easily slow to a near stop, and could have stopped if necessary. What is tedious is cyclists in Richmond Park focusing so much on their lap-time that they refuse to give way at the roundabouts. It’s a good place for training rides, but not to the expense of road rules, even if they do ruin your PB. I’m not fast in the park, my cycle is a single speed so very slow up the inclines and I top out on the downhill as I can’t switch up to a higher gear like the other cyclists. Spend most of my time being passed by faster cycles. Interesting how you don’t feel that other cyclists focusing on lap-time speed, ignoring road traffic rules etc. are setting a good example. Do you think perhaps they should slow a little, and follow the road rules? Or is their behaviour my fault?

Miss your vids mate, hope you’re doing alright. Greetings from México 🤝
I'll be cycling into London shortly. Frankly, this scares me. I think your "excuse me" was so nice, I'm used to having to ring the bell and yell (i.e. headphones on pedestrians!)
I put my videos up to highlight the worst case. 99% of the time my cycles are safe, just the 1% these things happen. Good to be aware so you don’t get caught out. I always cycle with two fingers on each brake lever and my eyes on stalks, so I’m ready when that 1% happens. 🙂👍🏻

Your videos for some reason put me in such a good mood every time lol. Keep posting!

I use my trusty old GoPro Hero 3+ Black and it’s mounted in my chest using a standard GoPro chest mount. 🙂👍🏻
from the first roundabout, it did the seem the ‘first’ of the three cyclists entered the roundabout just before yourself? but i see your point, you should slow down if traffic is incoming from your right provided you yourself were within the speed limit which i guess you were (20mph?)

Thankfully it’s a minority of cyclists thar don’t follow the rules (and likely the same people who don’t follow them when driving or walking). Most are pretty good. 🙂👍🏻
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 oh, I’ve maybe seen 2 other cyclists on my commute who don’t skip pretty much every red light
Fair observation. But that doesn't excuse the car drivers either. And a mistake by a car driver has grave consequences for a cyclist or a pedestrian. Not the other way around. And I say that as someone who drives and cycles in London.
I just broke David Millar 's RP circuit record, he did 13m35, I just did 13m30 on my first attempt this year!!! Phew! average 50km/h!
That’s insane! Years back I tried to do three laps in one hour and missed it by about 2 minutes. Even at my quickest would never have been near that kind of pace.

been binge watching all your videos as I'm getting a bike soon, I was wondering if you had any plans on making a video about how you lock your bike up safely in a city like London? I'm worried about my bike getting stolen, it's the main reason I've waited so long to get one.
Hi, hope you had a nice Christmas.
My current office has a basement where I can safely store my bike so it’s not an issue now.
I used to have to lock the bike on the street and here are my tips:
D-locks are the strongest.
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 I hope you had a great Christmas as well, thank you for the advise. Have a good day :)
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 I use a chain lock for my back wheel and a cable for the front wheel to the lock. 🙂👍🏻

@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 "filled with misses" should come a warning and not as a positive 🤦

Give way is give way. You cant force someone with priority to change lane or share a lane with you.
@@roadbiker8333 Exactly, the rules are there for everyone’s safety. 🙂👍🏻
Running reds and not stopping at crossings is the worst!! (Motor vehicle or cycle)
Have some sympathy for the pedestrians. Narrow pavements with encroaching hedges and lightly used roads mean the streets are more convenient for the pedestrians. Add to that the fact of bicycles being silent.
In fairness "pavement allergy" might be something to do with cars blocking the entire pavement
@@bestbehave Yeah, that’s certainly not helping. These days see loads of the green Lime hire bikes left inconsiderately blocking the pavement too.
here in my city cycling is much stronger, the drivers are more respectful, but there are still some who don't care!
That’s good to hear Pedro, please keep safe. 🙂👍🏻
More dangerous riding a cycle than it is driving a car. With Pedestrians posing a hit risk
Problem is , no one can hear you. Its getting worse with electric vehicles.
I'm thinking of trading in my bike for a Tank 😆
come drive in Egypt 🤣
I bet you'll quit
Ha! I bet! I’ll stick with London thanks! Keep safe. 😉👍🏻
EVERYONE must get out of Ryans way🤣
Never realised roundabouts were such to problem with cyclists on cyclists, if you have a guardian angel they must be exhausted with how much they're looking out for you!
My theory is that Richmond Park is a lap, and a lot of people are trying to beat their best time so don’t want to give way at the roundabouts. 🤦🏻♂️🙂👍🏻

As for rule following, 86% of drivers speed in towns/cities:

That doesn’t factor in the number of drivers playing with their phones when driving. So let’s not pretend that drivers are angels eh?!
Aggressive cycling 101
I’d say it’s more aggressive to ignore the road traffic rules and pull out without looking. I follow the rules and look where I’m going, wish others would too. 🙂👍🏻
You have to cycle in accordance with road conditions. The roads are full of inattentive people so I suggest you slow down.
I commute by bike in London, be it pedestrians, vehicles or other cyclists, there's numerous examples of fuckwittery everytime. Gotta have your wits about you all the time!
Walking across the road looking at phone. Slap the phone out of their hand on way past. They will never do it again
It’s very tempting sometimes! 🤣👍🏻
Single speed means you are always in top gear. Must be difficult.
Love these, but think you should be wearing brighter clothing... 👀 (maybe you are, and I can only see your black arms!) 😁
surprised there wasn't more electric scooter run ins... those people are the worst people
Ha yeah, I get a lot of comments from people who don’t like cyclists and I always think, if they don’t like cyclists then they really won’t like the e-scooter crowd!
You complain other road users don't give way to the right but you never seem to indicate, either.
Thanks...as a cyclist you don't run red lights...
I do my utmost to respect all traffic rules. 🙂👍🏻
As a cyclist I personally treat all reds as give ways, it’s just my personal risk appetite
@@TheSam7565 Hi Sam. Problem is that it gives all other cyclists a bad name as it really winds up other road users. Keep safe out there.
’m not the only one on this comment section who thinks you ride like an inexperienced cyclist or someone who doesn’t learn from their mistakes.
Need to start punching wing mirrors off
It’s very tempting, especially when people seem to use them so infrequently! 😉👍🏻
To be honest most of your issues with pedestrians were in places that are badly designed and not really thebpedestrians fault, that runner at 3:20 seemed to be on a crossing and in the karrow streets with even narrower sidewalks on which cars are parked it is quite normal the pedestrians have to go on the road itself since they cannot use the sidewalks
No excuses for the phone zombies however
Watching this, actually hoping you had an accident..
Smartphones, dumb users.
Yeah, smartphones have definitely contributed to many road incidents! 🤦🏻♂️
There’s no point having a collision that I’ll clearly come if worse from, however many drivers don’t want to wait for cyclists and try and bully us out of the way.

Jó videó, szar zene.
I think you are a bad driver. The car drivers won't see you driving like that.
The drivers will see if they pay proper attention to the road and look where they are going.
I think all your videos prove vehicles, cyclists & pedestrians can't live together.
I’m an eternal optimist and think we can. I hope that as awareness grows all road users will look out for each other irrespective of their mode of transport. 🙂👍🏻
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 most of the offenders just don't seem to care & the pedestrians look like they are in a coma & don't even look, as if something called a cyclist doesn't even exist let alone be aware of. I wish your optimism was realistic but I don't see it coming to fruition.
