It’s a good idea, some do but very rarely. It’s always best to shoulder check to ensure you’re not being passed by another cyclist before manoeuvring. 🙂👍🏻
Dutchman here, also not a common practice over here, although it is common practice to adjust your speed and/or use a bike bell when passing people that might get a fright. There's a multi use path near my house that sees a fair amount of bike traffic, pedestrians, people walking their dogs and people walking with baby strollers, so when I cycle there and there's pedestrians I usually just hold back on the speed a bit, pass them at a normal speed and maybe use my bike bell if I think it's necessary to announce my presence to them. It’s been a real treat to cycle around the Park each morning during lockdown. Agree with you re the roundabout, many people (drivers, cyclists and pedestrians) seem to think the usual roundabout rules don’t apply for some reason! 🤦🏻♂️ Keep safe my friend.
I'm gonna give all these pedestriains and cyclists a pass (even though some of them were not being very careful or considerate) because if any person chooses to enter Richmond (or any park for that matter) they better calm the F down and realise that people are there to relax and enjoy themselves so they're not gonna be the most alert and will do silly things from time to time. I've driven cars and riden my bikes though Richmond Park many times and if people don't wanna calm down and drive defensively then don't go through the damn park.
I think the issue is that some people are training in there, trying to set or beat a time and they don’t want to stop at the roundabouts. If they want a clear road best get into the park early, 5-6am and they’ll have the place to themselves.
