    "near misses"? Well slow down and cycle to the conditions then, stop barging around like you own the place, make exceptions for people's failures, cstop trying to punish them to make you feel better. Another privileged person who thinks he is somehow better than anybody else, look, you went bald at a young age, get over it already.

      V different, I was carrying speed and needed to be on the right to get the angle through the corner. Guy later was crawling and weaving around.

    Just to mention while I'm here friend, I was in the worst traffic collision of my life last week. Torn aorta. 7 fractured ribs. Completely snapped hubris. Punctured lung. Chest needed draining. Contusions on the liver and a torn kidney. 2 operations and 8 days in the high dependency. It was all caught on camera, but it is with the police at the moment. I was doing 30 in a 30 and a van pulled out in front of me without looking. It is being treated as "driving without due care and attention" and the driver will receive a slap on the wrist, points and a fine. The logic in this situation... if the van driver had done the same thing but coming down the road was an 18 wheeler, the van driver's carelessness would've only cause his own demise. Like wise had it been a van of a similar size, airbags and handbags and everyone would've been fine... It was an absolute "nothing I could do" situation - zero time to react. While cycling is a passion of mine, I can't ride a bike on these roads anymore knowing trauma is around every corner. I am heartbroken both figuratively and literally.

      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007  3 роки тому

      Wow, that sucks mate. Awful. I wish you a speedy recovery. What annoys me about that sort of thing is people do this casually as they feel there’s no risk for them in their vehicle, without thought for the devastating impact it can have on someone else!
      Take care and I hope it gets sorted. Remember there is a civil court as well as criminal as you could potentially claim for injury, damage to your bike, lost earnings etc.

    I'm gonna give all these pedestriains and cyclists a pass (even though some of them were not being very careful or considerate) because if any person chooses to enter Richmond (or any park for that matter) they better calm the F down and realise that people are there to relax and enjoy themselves so they're not gonna be the most alert and will do silly things from time to time. I've driven cars and riden my bikes though Richmond Park many times and if people don't wanna calm down and drive defensively then don't go through the damn park.

    • @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
      @ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007  3 роки тому

      I think the issue is that some people are training in there, trying to set or beat a time and they don’t want to stop at the roundabouts. If they want a clear road best get into the park early, 5-6am and they’ll have the place to themselves.

    Comment then question: in the US we commonly announce when approaching or passing “on your left” particularly when passing pedestrians or other cyclists. After watching several of your videos (thank you btw) Is that not a common practice in the UK? Or “on you right” in the case of the UK.

      It’s a good idea, some do but very rarely. It’s always best to shoulder check to ensure you’re not being passed by another cyclist before manoeuvring. 🙂👍🏻

      Dutchman here, also not a common practice over here, although it is common practice to adjust your speed and/or use a bike bell when passing people that might get a fright.
      There's a multi use path near my house that sees a fair amount of bike traffic, pedestrians, people walking their dogs and people walking with baby strollers, so when I cycle there and there's pedestrians I usually just hold back on the speed a bit, pass them at a normal speed and maybe use my bike bell if I think it's necessary to announce my presence to them. Never had a problem.

      All good thanks, a bit fatter as haven’t been cycling anywhere near as much with lockdown and working from home! 🤣 Making sure I get out most mornings this year to get back to weight!
      Hope you’re doing well and keeping safe. 🙂👍🏻

    Sorry to see you had such pain with cycling around richmond. Couple of observations:
    1. around richmond pedestrians have right of way on the "closed to traffic roads"
    2. skating/inline skiing is perfectly permitted in the park at any speed.
    That said some of the other cyclist and cars are completely out of their minds

      I agree, I wouldn’t yell at a pedestrian for walking out into the road in the park, they should still exercise caution when crossing though.
      I put the skier and skater in just because they made me chuckle, neither were doing anything wrong.
      My main bugbear is people not using the roundabouts properly. 🙂👍🏻

      Very fortunate to only live 5 minutes cycle from the park, it’s a perfect place to blast away the lockdown cobwebs.
      Have a lovely Easter weekend. 🙂👍🏻
