Beautiful top!! Love, love the colors.
I think I’m asking an incredibly basic question, and I feel a bit foolish for asking this. When you weave your yarn , is the final product the same thing as tweed? I don’t know the difference. All of your clothing looks beautiful.
@Creative-Chaos "Tweed is a thick, rough, woven wool fabric that is known for being warm, durable, and weather-resistant" from a google search, so no, not really like tweed. My fabrics are much softer, especially for clothing. Often wool, sometimes cotton or silk. Not a silly question though!
I love the bias tape ones best! Your towels look fantastic.
@Creative-Chaos thank you. I think I like the ones with bias tape best too.
I don’t own a loom but I have started watching because I am so intrigued. I am learning a new vocabulary and someday I might buy a loom.
@Creative-Chaos there are lots of different ones, it's good to try one first if possible before buying one.
It looks very beautiful. I am not a weaver but I’m beginning to get tempted.
@@Creative-Chaos oh good! Give it a go 😊
Thank you Sarah! I'm going to make one!
@jenniferedwards1896 oh good! I'm gathering remnants for mine.
Very helpful! Thank you!

Thank you Sarah for sharing your knowledge and ideas 😊 I really get inspired by all you do. Looking forward to the progress of this project.
@@MarciaHouston you're welcome 😊
This looks good - I would probably use some wide elastic in those waist tabs.
@@nerllybird I'll certainly bear that in mind
Thanks for sharing. I feel l could do this one. Love the mock up colour. ❤
@@feltlikeitbydebs oh good! I'm going through my remnants....
Thanks Sarah 😍
Wow, I love your designs! ❤
@@mercemurray thanks!
I had an apron like that. 💕🌞🌵😷
@@suzisaintjames very useful!
Love the dress❤
@tillydebruin1961 thank you 😊
How well do the fringed towels hold up to regular use and washing with just a line of machine stitching to hold the edge? I’ve only just started weaving and I’m nervous that everything will unravel.
@treewytch I've never had a problem with that. If you're worried put them in a net bag so they're slightly protected.
I like your little loom and the fact you can set it up so quick!
@hannahayukawa that's why I love it- and use it- so much ❤️
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that seen that Sirdar boucle in one of my fave vogue knitting issues… it’s from 1984. That is a very special yarn to have on hand I’m jealous lol
I had a couple ideas for tops from narrow handwoven before this but now I have fifty more, so thank you!
@@ArwynArising you're welcome 😊
I'm really enjoying your videos, and also I laughed at this one, because every other weaver I've seen answer this question goes very "wellllll it depends, but consider this factor and that factor and whether you want this feature" and then you go "yeah I like this one" -- and it happens to be the exact loom I'm currently looking for. Anyway, thanks both for the info and for the giggle!
@@ArwynArising glad you enjoyed it 😊
Wow! That worping peg!
The color distribution turned out really nice, like classic ribbon candy
@@TheQwuilleran thank you 😊

I love doing this, it make for such interesting fabric
Hi Sarah, I've just discovered your channel as I am looking to learn to weave cloth. I appreciate your encouragement to us new weavers. I have only ever made tapestries with frame looms! Please, can you enlighten me on what the difference is between a knitting loom and other rigid heddle looms? Thanks!
@rosea570 Ashford have a Knitters loom- it's a rigid heddle loom which folds. I'm not sure why it was called that, maybe to encourage knitters to use some of their stash in a new way! That's the only difference really, I love them because they fold, easy to pack and carry and lighter than some rigid heddle looms. The weaving method is the same though. I hope that helps.
@@getweaving8459 how interesting! I am glad I asked :)
How fascinating. I also like weaving narrower cloth, though I have a 42" floor loom. I have done rugs and blankets when need arises. Lately, I've been considering making cloth for my own clothing. It's frustrating not to find clothing I like in the store. I had the honor to learn under a master weaver about fifteen years ago. She also made all of her clothing. She was 98 when I last saw her, and still weaving. We spoke a few times after that, but her advice and encouragement are sorely missed. I'm glad you made this video. I know it's older, but I hope I can listen to more of your wisdom. 😊
@dianasmith8166 I was also lucky enough to be taught when I went to college, by a very nice teacher who showed me the basics of spinning and weaving, then left me to get on with it. That suited me, I like finding my own way of doing things. Now I feel that it's my time to pass it all on.....although I'm not 98 yet! Happy weaving 😀
Thank you for sharing I enjoy your videos immensely
@@neilstephen6761 you're welcome, plenty more in the pipeline.
Very cool. Would you be able to show making a sweater or a top with double weaving technique?
@@southafricanrhino I'm afraid not at the moment, I'm not doing double weave yet. Most of my fabric is made on a rigid heddle loom, very simple, 1 heddle, to get people started.
The wealth of information that you share in the photographs that accompany all of your Etsy pattern listings is phenomenally, informative, and inspirational. It feels like a private cheerleading section pushing me to realize I can do this too. You’re not trying to hide proprietary secrets or anything you’re free and open with the information you have and It’s a telling difference between you and several other vendors. It’s why I’m your customer or rather I will be more of your customer as soon as a couple. I’m waiting for sizes added, but I keep referring everyone in my guild to you. Because you help us realize that with whatever we have at hand, we can do it too. Thank you for your work and for sharing so freely.
@naomikatepp thank you, what lovely comments. I'm so happy it's building confidence, best way to learn 😊✔️👍
Inspiring.... just use whatever pleases you to make any fabric. And like I was told by a weaving friend years ago: Don't be afraid to cut into hand woven fabric. Once it is off the loom consider it 'just fabric' no different than what you buy in the store. Now all I need to do is to get back to my looms......
@@dollcreator great advice! And....check twice, cut once.
I really look forward to my Sunday morning (lol) 'ritual' of watching a different one of your videos. I appreciate This one because it's a great refresher for me. It opened up new ideas for projects as well. Thank you for doing these❣️
@kimandmoandnoelly that's great to hear, thank you 😊
I'm still frogging handknitted, woollen jumpers for weaving yarn. My current batch of come from the 1980s, handspun and hand knitted from pet sheep.
@@jirup Frogging....I love that. My friend explained it to me the other day 🐸.
Inspiring as always. Thank you.
@@feltlikeitbydebs you're welcome 😊
Thank you for encouraging folks to be the masters of their own creations. With the wonderful schematics you provide, it's possible to shed insecurities that the piece will only be successful using the exact yarns. Even if one goes "way outside the box" choosing of a much greater or smaller WPI, EPI. There is the potential of ending up with a uniquely lovely garment having a totally different weight and feel. Having worked in yarn shops and taught knitting as well as weaving, I can tell you that the most common question is, "Do you carry this yarn brand, so that I can make this new (or old) pattern?" The customer most often ends up feeling defeated, especially when a certain mill or brand is no longer available and they lack sufficient trust in sampling/ swatching alternative yarns. My fondest of joys has been when a piece comes back to be shown off with great pride. Even when, despite and after many calculations, the piece will best fit another wearer. Take heart weavers and knitters. If it doesn't fit your body shape, it could be a greatly appreciated treasure to someone. You inspire and give people permission to be "co-creators" of their garments by showing what is possible. Thank you, Sarah Howard.
@franklinhyry1984 what a lovely read, thank you so much ❤️
Thank you so much for this. I want to draft Victorian patterns and use my woven wool fabric, but I was scared to cut it. I'm definitely going to be useing the drawing like + sewing method.

Where on Amazon can I find this loom?
@showman139 I don't think you can buy it from amazon, you need to look for an Ashford dealer. Luckily there are a lot of them.
Such a sweet and tidy space you have to work from. Thank you for sharing! It's exciting to actually see where the patterns I purchased were developed and then mailed from. Little details make me happy 😊

Hi Sarah could you please remind me which iron on fusible tape you use for cutting out woven fabric? Many thanks
@suzannemortimer9752 hi Suzanne, I use one called Stayflex, it's woven so much better for wovens. I buy it from ebay uk.
Such great ideas and information. Thank you!

Hi. I am so impressed with the beautiful things you weave on your Ashford rigid heddle loom. I have just bought this loom and am watching all your videos to get to know more about weaving. I just watched the weaving fabric video and i would like to know how much did you warp for this? In other words how long was the warp. I hope you know what i mean as i may not know the right terms. 15:48 16:44
@Gerritdina the warp was 13 1/2in x 188in, sett 7.5dpi. After weaving and washing I had a piece 12in x 152in. It's my pattern GWT001, in my etsy shop. Glad you're enjoying the videos, happy weaving!
Sarah, your videos give me inspiration and your comments like "...or you changed your mind" give me courage to press on. Thank you for doing these videos!! ❣️
@kimandmoandnoelly I'm so pleased you're enjoying them. I know my ways don't suit everyone- a bit random sometimes- but that's just the way I work. I never really know how the fabric will turn out because I rarely repeat anything, that's the fun of it for me. I've never had a piece I couldn't use for something!
When you say you do a zigzag on a lap seam at the selvages, do you use a single steps zigzag or a three step zigzag? Three steps zigzag is when it takes three stitches to do each zig and each zag. They’re often very tiny stitches.
@naomikatepp I just do a single zigzag, that works for me.
