I had 2 interesting life lessons- a very critical sewing teacher at school (😫) and a very non- judgemental, encouraging teacher at college. I prefer the latter!!
I like the frame looms because of their portability. I have triangle, square, rectangle, and hexagon all for fine sett since I spin thin. I've just started trying to piece the bits together to make garments and your channel is helping me gain confidence.
@@getweaving8459 Oh, that's great to hear. My grandson is also a creative boy and I imagine that he'll want to give it a try too. Thanks, for responding!
Hello Sarah, Once again, I’m so enthralled by your lovely videos & in particular, your presentation format! Your experience as a teacher truly comes across!! Anyway, I’m excited to purchase a Heddle Loom in order to learn to weave🤗! ???? Is there any way, your book printer can print new editions of your book: Get Weaving? Even if we had to prepay - that would be fine! I also live in California, not England. Thanks again!! I super appreciate all I have just learned from your 5 videos I have watched today!! It was so relaxing & enjoyable to sit & watch your videos 👍🏻🤗!
Get Weaving is still available, in my etsy shop. www.etsy.com/uk/shop/GetWeaving Simply Woven is out of print but I'm thinking of making pages available if I can get good copies of them.
I’m quite sensitive to wool so I don’t really buy any wool yarn. I was gifted by a friend who raises llamas and alpacas 🦙 quite a bit of yarn. That being said, I know I’d eventually like to make garments with my woven fabric. I laugh as I have yet to even set my loom up. (It just arrived it the post today!) My rigid heddle loom is only 10” so I’ll likely have to get a larger loom once I’m more experienced with weaving. What is the easiest type of yarn to use for a newbie weaver for garment making. I’ve sewn clothing for fifty years so sewing isn’t new, but using hand woven fabric is another thing entirely. Most of the yarn I own (crochet lover) is acrylic. Again, I have quite a bit of alpaca hand spun yarn. It doesn’t seem to cause me irritation like wool. Can I warp and weft with purely alpaca? 🦙 Thanks ahead of time for answering. 😊
You can definitely use acrylic, that's very popular and easy to work with. To start I'd suggest an acrylic warp and an alpaca weft. Don't mix the warp or weft for now as you may get different take up and shrinkage, although it might produce an interesting fabric!
Watching is my pleasure. Sarah, if you weave without a project in mind, what length do you generally weave? Guess I'm wondering what length is most useful.
Hi Rose, I never weave without a project in mind, I've always planned the size first. Too frustrating later as it probably wouldn't work for anything, too small so lots of fiddling, or too big and lots of waste!
Thanks for another inspirational video. I’d love to watch a video of some of the clothes that you’ve made with you talking about the yarns that you chose. When you use your handspun yarn, do you have a favorite wool that you use? I’ve been dreaming of sewing a top with some handwoven cloth that I have. 😊
I love seeing how you came to this point in your weaving career. I was wondering do you have any tips for weaving cotton and other plant fibers(linen).
Linen has very little stretch so you need to be careful with the tension if you're using it as a warp, and not mix it with yarns that have any stretch. I like cotton as a warp and a weft, but I have found that it can shrink quite a bit so its worth making a sample.
Hi Sue, some go to 2xl, that's bust 46-48in. I am getting asked for larger sizes and I'm planning to do some when I have time. Thanks for getting in touch, happy weaving 👋✨️
I have a couple of patterns suitable for men, it rather depends how curvy you mean! In my etsy shop www.etsy.com/uk/shop/GetWeaving there are T009 and T016. You can see the body measurements if you scroll through the photos.
The ramie looks like it’s got great drape. Must read you and Elisabeth’s books again, haven’t looked at them for ages. Great program Sarah x
Thank you Sarah. Always inspirational. Absolutely love the fabric you have just made.
❤ thank you so much, Sarah! Love my „Get weaving“ book from 2014, so inspiring 🎉
Thanks for a lovely presentation on weaving. It does encourage me more to be creative and accepting of what I make. Look forward to next time . Lee

That's good to hear. Have fun with the seams, you could make a feature of them rather than trying to disguise them. Exciting!
I just purchased a small loom
For my grandaughter so really looking forward to weaving!!! Thank you for your inspiring talk.
Hi! Many happy hours there then, I started with my 1st loom when I was 10 years old and I'm still enjoying it 😀

I love Shetland fleece, and Jacob fleece. My friend has Oxford Down/Southdown Cross, lovely to dye
I'll think about your suggestion for another video ✔️👍

No, it hardly shrunk at all. I washed the handspun hanks first.
Thanks Sarah. Always so inspiring. Did you make the top you are wearing? Probably a dumb question because you probably did. It is very interesting.
Hi Sarah , I am so enjoying your videos, and I too have a glorious 'Seagull ' rose. I am on the curvy side, what size do your patterns go up to?

Do you have patterns that would fit a rather curvy man by any chance?
